Babies Suffer Just as Much in Late Abortions as in Gosnell Murders

From Carol Tobias
National Right to Life President

Kermit Gosnell was convicted of murder for severing the necks of just-born babies, but those babies would have died just as painfully if he had killed them inside the womb, as most late-term abortionists do.  The result is the same for the baby whether it meets its end in a shabby clinic like Gosnell's or a brand new Planned Parenthood facility -- a painful death.

Planned Parenthood and NARAL both tried to spin two points in their response to Gosnell’s convictions on three counts of first degree murder for brutally killing babies after they were born alive, manslaughter in the death of a 41-year-old patient, and 21 counts of performing illegal  late abortions.

First, they tried to distance Gosnell’s killing from the abortions they themselves advocate.  This even though at least one of Planned Parenthood’s clinics does abortions up until 24 weeks.  And even though Planned Parenthood lobbyist Alisa LaPolt Snow was asked in a committee of the Florida legislature “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”

Unbelievably, Snow replied “We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”

Second, they tried to blame pro-lifers like you and me.

That’s right, in the bizarre logic of Planned Parenthood and NARAL, it’s pro-life laws  that drive women to butchers like Gosnell, not the culture PP and NARAL themselves spawn by degrading the value of human life right from its inception.

We call on pro-lifers everywhere to support compassionate protections for the lives of unborn children.  You can do this by speaking up against the injustice of abortion, by talking to your legislators and insisting they pass National Right to Life-supported laws to protect the unborn, and by donating generously so we can make the case for life-saving laws in every state legislature and Congress.

Cases like Gosnell’s happen, not when pro-lifers pass compassionate laws to protect the lives of the innocent, but when abortion advocates degrade the value of every life.  Now, while these brutalities are fresh in the public’s minds, is the time to educate, to persuade and to pass protective laws for Life.
