Seeing Heaven-Sent Miracles

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

The movie, "Miracles from Heaven" really touched me.

For those who are not familiar with it, it tells the story of a mother desperately trying to find a cure for her little girl, who has been afflicted with a potentially deadly digestive disorder.

It is truly heartbreaking when the mother, played by the luminous Jennifer Garner, shows up at a Boston hospital, desperate to secure an appointment with a world-renowned doctor. She literally pleads for the life of her daughter.

But the film is not ultimately about hardship and pain. It is about faith and goodness, perseverance and miracles.

Which got me to thinking--Aren't all children--every single one--a miracle? Is this not the case, even if they have an illness or a disability?

The abortionist stops miracles, trading hope for hopelessness. He or she is not providing a service, but rather betraying the medical profession--a profession designed to heal rather than harm.

Each of us is called to be a midwife to a miracle, helping pregnant women navigate the difficulties of life so that they can give birth to hope. Everyone of us has a role to play in the pro-life movement, a movement based ultimately on love and an optimistic recognition of the miracles in our midst.

The more than 58 million children who have died from legal abortion since 1973 were worth fighting for. Every child is. I still remain confident that someday our law will once again recognize the unborn child as the miracle she is.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, Inc., is committed to promoting the dignity and value of human life from conception to natural death and to restoring legal protection for preborn children. Through legislation, political action, education and other legal means, we proclaim the truth about abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia.
