Planned Parenthood's "Volunteer Army"

Kristan Hawkins
President, Students for Life of America

Planned Parenthood recently unveiled their plans to create a “volunteer army” of 600 community groups nationwide.

If they’re anything like the “community organizers” we’ve seen inciting violence at political rallies both in 2016 and this year, you and I must prepare for the worst – especially with Planned Parenthood doing everything possible to keep their hands on the $500+ million in taxpayer funding they receive each year.

When our team was planning out our #SockIt2PP National Tour, I knew we’d face backlash from pro-abortion protestors.

That’s not new to us. Planned Parenthood knows that we’re the only organized group taking them on where it hurts the most – with their target demographic on high school and college campuses.

In fact, over the years, we’ve had our signs ripped apart, displays of crosses representing lives lost to abortion stomped on, and been called every name in the book by pro-abortion radicals.

But with this latest announcement, I’m afraid Planned Parenthood’s “army” could escalate tensions on college campuses even more, which have already been red-hot.

Pro-abortion radicals hate nothing more than to be confronted with Truth.

So we have to take every possible precaution over these next few weeks of our #SockIt2PP National Tour.

I certainly don’t want to cancel any of the 90+ tour stops we have on our schedule.

But I also don’t want to put our pro-life leaders (many of whom are still teenagers) in harms’ way if threats of violence become more than just “rumors.”

The truth is, Planned Parenthood knows that our #SockIt2PP National Tour will truly change hearts and minds.

Just imagine the impact our kick off will have – where we’re loading up our bright pink truck with all 328,348 baby socks (one for each preborn baby aborted by Planned Parenthood last year alone) and taking them to Washington, D.C., and state capitols and U.S. Senators’ offices in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

And that’s just the first week of this #SockIt2PP National Tour!

After that, we’re distributing 6,279 baby socks to represent each preborn baby aborted by Planned Parenthood every week, to display on over 90 campuses across the nation.

In addition to all these baby socks, we’ll be showing a video with a former abortionist (who is now pro-life) to students describing all the gruesome details of an abortion and we’ll be showing some of the instruments used during this travesty.

When students are confronted with the reality of what abortion is – both in terms of taking the life of an innocent preborn child and the harm it causes women – even self-described “pro-choice” students start to rethink their beliefs.

The conversations sparked by our displays truly do make a difference.

That’s why I want this #SockIt2PP National Tour to be our biggest yet, reaching tens of thousands of young people.

Planned Parenthood knows that their grip on the younger generation is already slipping.

In fact, polls show a majority of millennials believe that abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances.

Losing the fight for this generation of young people is even more dangerous to Planned Parenthood than stripping them of taxpayer funding.

They know that Students for Life is the biggest threat to their bottom line because of our 1,150 student groups nationwide, our training of over 11,000 students each year, and all of the campaigns like #SockIt2PP National Tourthat expose Planned Parenthood’s lies and bloody business practices.

I wish all I had to worry about was executing the schedule, transporting all these baby socks from one stop to the next, and lining up media requests.

But I can’t ignore the larger political climate, which seems to be getting tenser by the day.

Please pray for the safety of all our pro-life leaders – especially the ones who will be traveling and on the front lines talking to students during our #SockIt2PP National Tour.

Pray that they have the right words to help change hearts and minds and that they can diffuse any heated situations that could turn violent.
