Pro-Life Victory in New Jersey!

Federal Judge Rules in Favor of Peaceful Pro-Life Speech at Late Term NJ Englewood Abortion Clinic

from Marie Tasy, Executive Director
New Jersey Right to Life

On Wednesday, a NJ Federal Judge issued a ruling in Turco v. City of Englewood which found that that city of Englewood's ordinance preventing "sidewalk counseling" violates the First Amendment.

The case was filed by Jeryl Turco, who sidewalk counsels outside the late term Metropolitan Medical Associates Abortion Clinic in Englewood, NJ. According to the suit, she sought to "engage clinic clients

in quiet, friendly, non-confrontational conversation with a view toward offering them alternatives to abortion." The Judge ruled that the Englewood abortion clinic's buffer zone was overly broad and that it did not try a lessrestrictive approach before enacting the ordinance.

We thank Jeryl Turco, the plaintiff in the case for challenging this unfair ordinance and the attorneys from the Legal Center for Defense of Life and the American Center for Law and Justice who served as

counsel in this case. Ed Gilhooley, the Executive Director of the Legal Center for Defense of Life, initially worked on this case before he passed away. He never had any doubt that this case was winnable.

We owe him a debt of gratitude. Well done, Ed!
