Father and Daughter Team on Incredible Cross-Country Walk for Life, Walk 15 Miles a Day to Stand Against Abortion

A dedicated pro-life father and daughter team are on a cross-country pilgrimage for the unborn.

John Moore, 68, with the help of his daughter Laura, 25, plans to walk from California to Washington, D.C. by Jan. 18, 2019 for the annual March for Life, Aleteia reports. Throughout their journey, they hope to “witness for Christ” about the value of unborn babies.

Moore set out from San Francisco in April with his daughter, who is driving a camper to provide him with supplies and scope out the roads ahead, according to the report.

On May 26, he had walked 565.2 miles and was in Nevada, according to the family’s blog CrossbearersLog. Moore walks about 15 miles per day and carries two wooden crosses on his back. Some days, he has walked in the rain, snow and sleet. Other days have been hot and tiring.

Moore said he made both crosses, one with the help of a friend. One cross represents one of his heroes, Father Emil Kapaun, a Catholic chaplain during World War II and the Korean War who died as a prisoner of war. The second cross includes an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patron saint of the unborn.

Here’s more from the report:

The crosses encourage passersby to stop and ask Moore what on earth he’s doing, and much of the response he’s received has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s part of what keeps him going, this opportunity to be a “witness for Christ,” even in the rain and hot sun, even on dusty dirt roads that never seem to end.
“I never tire of walking a pilgrimage, and there is never a reason to get discouraged,” says Moore. “Each step is one step closer to Washington, D.C. I always tell people it’s my job to put one foot in front of the other, and the outcome is in God’s hands … To be 68 years old and carrying a cross across the country, I consider myself blessed.”
Laura, who recently graduated from college, decided to help her father on his latest pilgrimage. He has completed several others in the past.
“When God wants something for you, everything falls into place,” she said. “I’m young, single, and this couldn’t be a better time for me in terms of my responsibilities. This is the only thing I am being asked to do at this point in my life.”
Her father said he attended the March for Life six years ago for the first time, and it inspired him to do more to help unborn babies.

The family said any donations that they receive on their pilgrimage will be given to the Knights of Columbus for its sonogram program. The Catholic organization donates sonogram machines to pro-life pregnancy centers across the country.
