Escape

by Judy Alciatore
This poem is based on actual events...it was requested by the woman who adopted the young girl in the poem...how does one write a poem about such heinous deeds, but as usual, God answered my prayer...as soon as the prayer ended, there were the words:
ESCAPE

LOST AND FORLORN IN A COLD, DARK PLACE
WHERE IN THIS WORLD CAN I GO
BRUISES ABOUND ON MY BODY AND FACE
THE BABY IS STARTING TO SHOW

WHERE CAN I RUN TO, WHO WILL BE THERE
HOW CAN I FIND A WAY OUT
FORCED TO ABORT THE FIRST CHILD THAT WE SHARED
WHAT IS THIS MAN ALL ABOUT

USED AND ABUSED, BY ONE AND BY ALL
NEVER A MOMENT OF LOVE
HELD AS A CAPTIVE, A SLAVE IN HIS THRALL
I CALL UPON HEAVEN ABOVE

SEND ME A SAVIOR, I CRY OUT TO THEE
DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN, I PRAY
I LOOK IN A MIRROR, WHAT DO I SEE
A CHILD WHO HAS SO LOST HER WAY

ANOTHER ABORTION, A CHILD TO BE LOST
MY HEART IS SO BROKEN IN TWO
I MUST GET AWAY, NO MATTER THE COST
I TURN, LORD, AND REACH OUT TO YOU

YOU’VE SENT ME AN ANGEL, A WOMAN IN WHITE
I FOLLOW HER OUT THROUGH A DOOR
TO SAFETY AND REFUGE, NO LONGER IN FLIGHT
BUT, LORD, YOU HAVE SENT ME MUCH MORE

A FAMILY TO LOVE ME, A FAMILY TO CARE
A HOME THAT IS TRULY MY OWN
NOW LOVED AND PROTECTED, I’M SO HAPPY THERE
A WONDER I NEVER HAVE KNOWN

I THANK YOU, MY JESUS, MY LORD, AND MY ALL
I THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE
ON YOUR PRECIOUS NAME, I HAD BUT TO CALL
MY SAVIOR, MY JESUS, GOD’S SON

THANK YOU, LORD
