We Need You Down in Trenton on Thursday, February 7th for Senate Hearing on Assisted Suicide!

from Marie Tasy, Executive Director
New Jersey Right to Life

Late yesterday afternoon, the Senate Health Committee scheduled a hearing on Thursday, February 7th at 1 p.m. on the NJ Assisted Suicide bill late (S1072).

We are presently hearing that the full Assembly Vote may vote on the companion bill, A1504, before the end of the month so right now it is critically important for you to do these two things:

1. Please call and email your 2 Assembly Members and State Senator to urge them to Vote No on A1504/S1072. Please do this even if you have contacted them previously. You can call and email them with a pre-written email and suggested phone message we prepared by clicking on the link here: Take Action Now to Oppose Assisted Suicide!

You can also call the Office of Legislative Services at 1-800-792-8630 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to obtain the names and phone numbers of your
two Assembly Members and State Senator. You will need to provide your town and zip code when calling.
You can also search for your 2 Assembly Members and State Senator by looking up your municipality: Here

Note: we have also created a Targeted Action Alert to select Senators on the Senate Health Committee. You will only be able to act on this alert f you live in one of these Senator's districts. If you do, please send the pre-written email and phone message included in this alert: Please Vote No on S1072

2. Please plan to come down to Trenton on Thursday, February 7th. Proponents will be there and we must be there as well to demonstrate that there is significant opposition to this bill. The plan is to line the halls of the State House by 9:30 a.m. as legislators are arriving so you can interact with them before all the hearings begin. It is vital that we continue to have a strong presence at the State House on this day to lobby our legislators to Vote No on the bill. If you can also stay for the 1 p.m. hearing, that would be helpful, but please be prepared that it will probably be a very long day.

What You Should Know if You are Coming to the State House on February 7th:

Plan to meet in the State House Cafeteria on Thursday, February 7th by 9 a.m. Bring your photo ID which you will need to go through security at the State House and for parking in the Underground State House Garage. Inform the security guard(s) that you are there to attend the Senate Health Committee.

Please remember to be cordial when speaking to legislators even if they disagree with our point of view. If given the opportunity, please use personal experiences to convince legislators to vote against this bill. Labels to wear on your clothing will be provided as well as materials to hand out to legislators.

Please do not engage with proponents of the bill while you are at the State House. I can't stress this enough. Please remember, we are there to use our valuable time to convince our lawmakers that this bill should be defeated.

Can I count on you, Unborn to come down to Trenton on February 7th? Please RSVP to jruggiero@diometuchen.org if you plan to come down to Trenton on February 7th.

Don't forget to check your email regularly for more information and updates on the impending Assembly Vote.

Please help us keep up the pressure on our legislators to Vote No on this dangerous and misguided bill!
