New Jersey Assisted Suicide Bill Dangerous
New Jersey, like several other northeastern states, is deciding
on a proposed assisted suicide bill. One expert warns that it would
allow someone to commit murder and get away with it.
The language in the bill says it is "intended to be liberally
construed to effectuate its purposes." Marie Tasy of New Jersey Right to
Life tells OneNewsNow that should be the first clue that A3328 (The NJ Death With Dignity Act) is "a
terrible bill."
"It allows somebody who is a relative or heir to be a witness to
the request to take the lethal drugs," she explains. "There's no
oversight once the drugs are prescribed as to whether they're used;
and of course, the person could be subject to change their mind but
be forced or coerced -- and there's no oversight for that
either."
The elderly people suffering from illnesses that require
expensive treatment and the disabled should be alarmed, in Tasy's
opinion.
"We're also concerned about the effect it will have on insurance
companies that may apply a cost-benefit analysis to the worth of
human life," she says. "We know this is already happening in the
states that have legalized assisted suicide."
She cites a specific example: "In Oregon, health insurers are
refusing to pay for treatment for patients but instead are willing
to pay for physician-assisted suicide."
The act is written to grant complete immunity for anybody who
assists in the suicide. In contrast, no protection is offered for
the patient, who could be victimized by someone who stands to
profit from the death.
We were warned that abortion would be the beginning of the slippery slope and now we are seeing just how far we’ve come down that slope. If Christians don’t stand up and fight back soon, we are all doomed! I urge all who live in New Jersey to get on the phone with your representatives to have this bill stopped!
