Dr. Monique Ruberu Reaches out to Catholic Physicians in the Philadelphia Area

On November 1, The Philadelphia Guild of the Catholic Medical Association held their monthly meeting at St. Francis Xavier – the Oratory – in Philadelphia. The group had invited Dr. Monique Ruberu to speak, as they knew she had a powerful conversion story and a courageous medical practice in women’s health.

Monique shared her journey from being an obstetrician gynecologist who prescribed contraceptives to being a fully pro-life physician who practices NaProTechnology®. Since her conversion, Monique also leads the 40 Days for Life campaign in Center City Philadelphia.

Her story was amazing and the audience, which included a number of medical students, was in rapt attention.

There was a lively dialogue afterward, in which some students asked how they too could practice according to their faith in the area of women’s health. They had already experienced persecution in the classroom and were being instructed to prescribe contraception for the treatment of women’s health problems.

Monique shared that maintaining a Catholic identity in medical school is not easy but it is possible. She informed them of the Annual Catholic Medical “Boot Camp” at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, open to both medical students and residents. First begun in 2013, this four day intensive program features world-renowned speakers, powerful presentations and profound spiritual reflection. It is designed to help students to survive as faithful Catholics and to organize groups within medical schools and localities to support one another.

You can watch a video about the Boot Camp below.

Dr. Monique also discussed how Marian Giron and Luis Garcia were both recipients of the Friends of FertilityCare ™ Saint Gianna Scholarship, enabling them to study NaProTechnology at the Pope Paul VI Institute. Armed with this knowledge, they would be better able to withstand the pressure from professors and student colleagues to practice medicine immorally.

Dr. Ruberu was very generous with her time and stayed afterward to answer personal questions. She is scheduled to speak Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church from 7 PM to 9 PM. The church is located at 605 West Street Road, Warminster, PA 18974.
