We Need you in Trenton on December 17th to Oppose Assisted Suicide Legislation

from Marie Tasy, Executive Director
New Jersey Right to Life

Thank you for acting on our alerts. We have been successful thus far in preventing a vote on A1504/S1072, the NJ Assisted Suicide bill; however, there is still much work to do to stop NJ from becoming the next state to legalize physician assisted suicide.

The reason for this email is to update you on where things stand currently on A1504/S1072 and ask for your continued help to oppose this bill.

We are hearing that the Assembly may not schedule a vote on the bill until January 31, 2019. The proponents of the bill are pushing for the Senate to schedule a legislative hearing in early to mid January so they can also schedule a vote in the full Senate on January 31st, so right now it is critically important for you to do two things:
1. Please call and email your two Assembly Members and State Senator to urge them to Vote No on A1504/S1072. Please do this even if you have contacted them previously. You can call and email them by clicking on the link here: Take Action Now to Oppose Assisted Suicide!
You can also call the Office of Legislative Services at 1-800-792-8630 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to obtain the names and phone numbers of your two Assembly Members and State Senator. You will need to provide your town and zip code when calling.
You can also search for your two Assembly Members and State Senator by looking up your municipality: Here

2. Please mark your calendar and plan to come down to Trenton on Monday, December 17th. Both the Assembly and Senate have Voting Sessions scheduled that day, but A1504/S1072 will not be on the Board list for either house. Proponents will be there and we must be there as well to lift our voices and demonstrate that there is significant opposition to this bill. It is vital that we continue to have a strong presence at the State House on this day to lobby Assembly Members and Senators to Vote No on the bill.

What You Should Know if You are Coming to the State House on December 17th:

Plan to meet in the State House Cafeteria on Monday, December 17th by 9 a.m. Bring your photo ID which you will need to go through security at the State House and for parking in the Underground State House Garage. Inform the security guard(s) that you are there to attend the Assembly Voting Session.

Please remember to be cordial when speaking to legislators even if they disagree with our point of view. If given the opportunity, please use personal experiences to convince legislators to vote against this bill. We will provide labels to wear on your clothing. We will also provide material to give to legislators and hand outs to help you talk to them about this issue.

Please do not engage with proponents of the bill while you are at the State House. I can't stress this enough. Please remember, we are there to use our valuable time to convince our lawmakers that this bill should be defeated.

Please RSVP to feedback@njrtl.org by December 13th to let us know if you plan to join us in Trenton on December 17 so we can get a headcount.

Please don't forget to email and call your 2 Assembly Members and State Senator to urge them to Vote No on A1504/S1072. You can do this by clicking on the link below.

Please continue to contact your three State Legislators even if you have done so previously. Proponents of the bill have been very aggressively meeting and calling legislators and we must do the same.

Feel free to share this information with pro-life friends and family and encourage them to sign up for our Action Emails so we can add to our Network of contacts.

Don't forget to check your email regularly for more information and updates on this matter.

I look forward to seeing you in Trenton on December 17th! Please help us keep up the pressure on our legislators to Vote No on this dangerous and misguided bill!

Please mark your calendar and plan to attend our Annual Rally for Life in Trenton on Tuesday, January 22nd. Click here for details and share with friends and family!
