Four Parenting Types
In a three-year study from University of Virginia, parenting ty[es prevalent in America today are analyzed and described.
According to the study:
The Faithful (20% of American parents) adhere to a divine source of morality and see moral decline in society, but uphold traditional values and rate raising "children whose lives reflect God's purpose" above happiness or success.
Engaged Progressives (21%) see few moral absolutes and value personal freedom and experience. Predominantly liberal and non-religious, they are optimistic about the culture and their children's prospects.
Detached (19%) do not closely monitor or seek involvement in their children's lives and are pessimistic about the future and their children's opportunities, feeling they are in a "losing battle with all the other influences out there."
American Dreamers (27%), the largest category, are extremely optimistic about their children and expend the majority of their resources on their children. This is the most common parenting type among African-Americans and Hispanics.
