VICTORY: CA’s Gov. Brown Vetoes Bill Requiring Abortion Pill on Campuses

Abortion advocates want to turn California’s university student health centers into abortion centers.

In a surprising turn of events, California Governor Jerry Brown, a pro-abortion Democrat, has vetoed a bill that would have forced all 34 public universities in the state to make abortion pills (RU-486) available on campus. Two pro-abortion group had pledged $20 million to implement the dangerous plan throughout California. No state in the nation has such a law.

Below is a copy of Governor Brown’s decision to veto the bill:

The bill, SB320, was a dangerous move by abortion advocates to subject college women to secret abortions that often go wrong, putting them in medical danger. Students would have induced abortions in their dorm rooms and often delivered their extremely premature babies, dead, in toilets that are shared by multiple people. The abortion pills sometimes cause excessive bleeding, infection, and other dangerous side effects.

Additionally, SB320 did not require the public universities to also educate women on the option of abortion pill reversal if they came to regret their initial abortion choice and wanted to stop it while the baby was still alive.

Live Action had been letting citizens know how to reach Gov. Brown’s office to ask him to veto SB320. The veto was needed for many reasons, including:

California politicians and their abortion industry backers are lying to students by telling them that a medication abortion (RU-486) is like a heavy period that just flushes away a clump of undefined cells.

The abortion pill regimen can be administered up to 10 weeks into a pregnancy when the baby has a beating heart and arms and legs. The first pill in the regimen, mifepristone, cuts off blood and nutrients to the baby, slowly starving her to death over one to two days. The second pill induces labor.

More young women will find themselves in communal dormitory bathrooms in labor, expelling their dead babies — often in excruciating pain and heavily bleeding for days — with no direct medical supervision.

Wisconsin Man Who Spiked Girlfriend’s Drink with RU-486 is Convicted of Attempted First-Degree Intentional Homicide of an Unborn Child

The case of Manishkumar M. Patel, who attempted to slip his unsuspecting girlfriend an abortifacient, has finally come to a conclusion, almost 11 years later.

On Wednesday Patel was convicted of attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child. 

“The attempted homicide charge carries a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison,” according to Alison Dirr. “Sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 9.”

Patel’s girlfriend did not ingest the drink but miscarried weeks later.

This was one of the very early cases of a boyfriend slipping his pregnant girlfriend an abortifacient. As we reported previously, Darshana Patel was suspicious and did not drink the smoothie that was laced with RU-486.

This took place in November 2007. A bench warrant was issued the following January for Patel (who was not related to the woman) on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child. He jumped a $750,000 cash bond, which he forfeited.

Patel’s list of criminal charges had included “second-degree recklessly endangering safety, placing foreign objects in edibles, possession with intent to deliver prescriptions, stalking, burglary, possession of burglary tools, and two counts of violating a harassment restraining order,” according to Dirr of USA Today

According to a 2008 Associated News story, the couple had a long-standing relationship, which resulted in a son in 2004. A subsequent pregnancy ended in a miscarriage in 2006 (Manish Patel denied that child was his.)

In August 2007 Darshana Patel said she became pregnant again. But this time (citing a criminal complaint) Dirr reported, “she noticed how attentive Manish became. He even prepared meals for her on occasion.”

Darshana noticed Manish stirring a smoothie at an ice cream store and grew suspicious, Dirr reported. 

“When he offered it to her, she noticed powder on the cup’s rim, and the pregnant woman feigned illness and didn’t drink it.”

According to the criminal complaint: A short time later, her doctor detected problems in her hormone levels, and she contacted the lab to test the substance in the cup. While waiting for a kit to test the substance, she miscarried. The lab test later confirmed the presence of the abortion pill.

FDA Shock: Abortion Pill Caused 22 Deaths and a Thousand Hospitalizations

At least 22 women have died after taking the abortion pill regimen, RU-486, and many others have experienced serious complications, according to updated data from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While abortion — and specifically, medication abortion — is sold to women as “safe,” there can be serious and life threatening complications from the abortion pill, as noted by the pills’ manufacturer, Danco. 

Although Danco is required to report any death associated with Mifeprex, women experiencing complications, various factors — such as not returning to the abortion provider or not reporting use of the drug to emergency personnel — may cause these numbers to seem lower than they actually are.

The abortion lobby is pushing for easy access to the abortion pill on college campuses and some are even calling for it to be approved for home use. No doubt, we may never know how many women suffer serious complications or succumb to death from the abortion pill if this happens. Clearly, according to its manufacturer, there are serious risks:

The abortion inducing regimen is made up of two pills, Mifeprex (mifepristone) and misoprostol, which, according to the FDA, will end “an early pregnancy (70 days or less since the first day of the last menstrual period).” Of course, “the pregnancy” is a term for ending the life of a preborn child in the womb. But, sometimes these chemicals also claim the lives of their mothers. The abortion is explained by Dr. Anthony Levatino in the video below:

Monte Patterson, the father of Holly Patterson, attempted to convey the dangers of the abortion pill before a House committee in 2006, when far fewer women had died. Holding a picture of his daughter, Monte described to that committee the tragic way Holly died after being given the drug at Planned Parenthood.

“I wanted to show you a picture of my daughter so at least you see what I have lost… Holly, who died at 18, and the other women who have died or have been seriously hurt by taking the RU-486 medical abortion drug regimen as a solution to their unplanned pregnancy, ” Mr. Patterson said.

He told the committee:

Twelve days after Holly’s 18th birthday, on September 10, 2003, she walked into a Planned Parenthood clinic to be administered an RU-486 medical abortion regimen. By the 4th day, she was admitted to the emergency room…. She complained of bleeding, cramping, constipation, and pain, but subsequently, she was sent home. Seven days after taking RU-486, Holly returned to the same emergency room hospital complaining of weakness, vomiting, abdominal pain.

Hours later, I was called to the hospital, where I found her surrounded by doctors and nurses, barely conscious and struggling to breathe. Holly was so weak she could barely hold onto my hand…. I watched Holly succumb to a massive bacterial infection as a result of a drug-induced abortion with RU-486….

The Abortion Pill Has Killed 22 Women, One State is Fighting Planned Parenthood to Protect Others

This week, the Supreme Court declined to take up Planned Parenthood’s challenge to a 2015 Arkansas law intended to protect women experiencing complications after a medication abortion.

The commonsense reform would require clinics that provide abortion-inducing drugs to have an arrangement with a doctor at a nearby hospital. In the case of an emergency, that doctor could then treat the woman at the hospital—something the Arkansas Legislature determined is necessary in light of the myriad complications that can result from a drug-induced abortion.

In a 2017 report, the Food and Drug Administration indicated there have been 22 reported deaths caused by medication abortions since the drug was approved in 2000.

Before Arkansas’ law could go into effect, Planned Parenthood got a district judge in Little Rock to stay its implementation. The abortion giant argued that it has been unable to find a doctor with admitting privileges who is willing to enter into an agreement with its two clinics in Arkansas. Since these locations do not provide surgical abortions, Planned Parenthood says it may have to shut down its operations in Arkansas, leaving only one remaining abortion clinic in the state.

Under Supreme Court precedent, states may enact abortion regulations so long as they do not have the purpose or effect of imposing an undue burden on women seeking an abortion before viability. Planned Parenthood brought a facial challenge, claiming the law is unconstitutional in every application, rather than as applied to its locations in Arkansas.

The Supreme Court has explained that the standard for a facial challenge to an abortion regulation is whether “in a large fraction of the cases in which [the law] is relevant, it will operate as a substantial obstacle … ”

Last July, a three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the district court. Writing for the court, Judge Raymond Gruender (who is on President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court short list) explained that the district court needed to conduct more detailed fact-finding in order to halt the law.

The district court had determined that the law was an “undue burden” by focusing on women from Fayetteville who would be required to travel 380 miles to the remaining clinic in Little Rock. 

The appeals court panel estimated that, based on the record in the case, fewer than 6 percent of women seeking medication abortions would be negatively affected by the new law, expressing skepticism about whether that would qualify as a “large fraction.” But the panel gave the district court a second chance at making the necessary findings to support its injunction.

Instead of going back to the district court, however, Planned Parenthood asked the Supreme Court to intervene, seeking a summary reversal of the 8th Circuit’s ruling. Planned Parenthood claims that this case is nearly identical to a 2016 decision striking down Texas’ admitting privileges law, so the court could avoid rehashing the same arguments and simply reverse the lower court.

But the Supreme Court, unsurprisingly, declined to do that.

Doctor Spiked Pregnant Girlfriend’s Drink With the Abortion Pill Because He Didn’t Want to be a Father

A Virginia doctor who spiked his girlfriend’s drink with abortion drugs to kill their unborn baby has been punished for his crime.

The AP reports Dr. Sikander Imran, 32, of Arlington, Virginia is slated to spend three years in prison before facing deportation to Pakistan; he also lost his medical license.

He pleaded guilty to fetal homicide in March, according to Christian News Network.

Brooke Fiske, Imran’s girlfriend of three years, said he pressured her to have an abortion when he learned that she was pregnant in 2017.

“He didn’t want to have a baby so he tried to talk me into having an abortion… which I didn’t want to do,” Fiske said.

Later, Fiske said she traveled from her home in New York state to visit Imran in Virginia. She said she was 17 weeks pregnant, and her plan was to discuss with him how they would raise their child.

She explained what happened next to WROC:

“When I was drinking my tea in the evening I got to the bottom of the cup. There was a gritty substance in there and when I looked at it, I could tell that it was a pill that had been ground up,” she said.

Just a few hours later – Fiske started having contractions.

“He [Imran] immediately started crying and said that he was a horrible person and that he had done what I thought he did,” Fiske said.

She was rushed to Virginia Hospital Center where she went into labor and lost her baby boy. Fiske says tests showed the abortion pill ‘Misoprostol’ was found in her system.

“According to the nurse at the hospital, it’s 200 milligrams to induce labor. So he gave me 800,” she explained.

At the sentencing hearing on Friday, Imran’s attorneys argued for leniency, claiming the doctor’s mental health was unstable at the time he slipped his girlfriend the deadly abortion drugs, according to ABC News.

Fiske also said she was more concerned about preventing such a horrible thing from happening again than the length of Imran’s punishment.

“What matters is that people hear this story and realize that either they need help themselves and they’re going to reach out and get it before something awful happens, or they realize that whatever weight, whatever tragedy, whatever pain they’re carrying, there is a way through it,” she said.

'Heavenly Father, What Did I Just Do?' New Hope for Women Who Want To Reverse Their Abortion

Women who change their minds after starting a so-called medical abortion can safely reverse course and give birth to a healthy baby. Medical abortions are when the expectant mother takes a number of pills that lead to the unborn child's death.

About one-third of all abortions are medical abortions, but a new study shows nearly three-fourths of abortion pill reversals are successful.

Four-year-old Zachariah is one of those success stories. His mother, Rebekah Buell, told CBN News that she was 19 when she went to Planned Parenthood for a medical abortion. The process involves taking a mifepristone pill, also known as RU-486, at the office and taking a different pill at home the following day, where the child is expelled.

"I knew it was wrong, but I thought, 'God, you're just going to have to forgive me,'" Rebekah said.

Rebekah recalled feeling an overwhelming sense of sorrow and starting to cry immediately after taking that first pill in the Planned Parenthood office. "The woman who gave me the pill said, 'Just because you're sad doesn't mean you're making the wrong decision.'"

But Rebekah couldn't shake the intense feeling of regret. 

"I just thought, 'Heavenly Father, what did I just do? What is this pill doing to my baby right now? Is it hurting my baby? God, if there's a way out of this please help me find it. And if there's not, please help me forgive myself.'"

She went home and searched on her computer the phrase: "I took the first abortion pill and changed my mind." The search brought up the Abortion Pill Reversal website. She called the phone number on the website and was matched with a nearby doctor who administered progesterone injections for several weeks to reverse the effects of mifepristone.

When a Planned Parenthood representative called to find out how her abortion went, Rebekah informed the woman she was attempting to keep her baby. 

"She [PP representative] said, 'Do you have any idea what you're doing? The medication you took can cause severe abnormalities.' So I was so scared during my pregnancy I couldn't sleep. But Zacariah was born perfectly healthy, is still perfectly healthy, so incredibly smart and witty."

Clinic Confirmed Baby Survived Abortion, Offered to Kill Her Again. Her Mom Refused: “God Preserved Her”

When “Lisa,” a 25-year-old woman, called Crossroads Care Center in Auburn Hills, Mich., in the fall of 2015, she felt like she was out of time, out of options, and destined to endure the remaining stages of an abortion she already regretted.

A week earlier at a nearby abortion business, Lisa had ingested mifepristone—the first of two pills in the chemical “abortion pill” regimen, meant to end the life of her preborn child. She had even taken the second pill in the regimen (misoprostol) to induce labor, but the contractions never came.

Lisa felt something was going drastically wrong.

In a follow-up appointment at the abortion business, Lisa told the clinic staff about her symptoms, and they confirmed via ultrasound that the chemical abortion had failed and her baby was still alive.

From there, abortion workers gave Lisa two “options”: they could finish the abortion via surgery or make another attempt at a chemical abortion.

“She chose neither of those,” Tracey Fish, a physician assistant who works with Crossroads Care Center, said. “She wanted to keep her child, but they didn’t offer her that option. So, she called us wondering if we could help her.”

Calling during off-hours, Lisa—who’d been to Crossroads while she was still trying to decide whether or not to keep her baby—reached Tim Stickel, the center’s executive director, who happened to be in the office.

Crossroads then connected Lisa with a high-risk ob-gyn for emergency treatment, and for care the rest of her pregnancy. In the meantime, Stickel, Fish and others spent precious hours in prayer, mentorship and biblical counseling with Lisa and the father of her baby—both during and after pregnancy.

In the spring of 2016, Lisa gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

“It was God who preserved her,” Stickel said. “We’ve never cried more and prayed more for somebody. It was an emotional roller coaster. There was a huge time investment, but it was only after God had done His work of preserving this child.”

As Stickel and his team at Crossroads—which serves over 200 clients each month—watched Lisa change her mind and successfully rescue her baby from an in-progress abortion, they began exploring new ways to help women like her.

Doctor Accused of Slipping Abortion Pill Into Pregnant Girlfriend's Tea, Killing Baby

A New York woman is speaking out after her boyfriend of three years killed their unborn child by slipping an abortion pill into her drink.

WROC reported Tuesday that 32-year-old Dr. Sikander Imran has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after he allegedly slipped the drug Misoprostol into his pregnant girlfriend's tea while she was 17 weeks pregnant.

Brook Fiske of Farmington, New York, recently told the Rochester-based news outlet that the crime occurred when she traveled down to Arlington, Virginia, to visit Imran, who she said she had been dating on and off for the past three years and had recently moved south.

According to Fiske, she made the trip to discuss with Imran how they were going to raise their child. Fiske claims that Imran never wanted to have the child and asked her to get an abortion. However, that was a demand that Fiske could not agree to.

It was during her trip that Fiske says she was drugged by her baby's father.

"When I was drinking my tea in the evening I got to the bottom of the cup. There was a gritty substance in there and when I looked at it, I could tell that it was a pill that had been ground up," Fiske told the news outlet.

It was only a few hours later before Fiske began having contractions.

"He [Imran] immediately started crying and said that he was a horrible person and that he had done what I thought he did," Fiske said.

Fiske rushed to the Virginia Hospital Center in an attempt to save her child, but to no avail.

She was informed by a nurse that she had Misoprostol, a medication used to induce labor, in her system.

"According to the nurse at the hospital it's 200 milligrams to induce labor," Fiske asserted. "So he gave me 800."

According to court documents, Imran was taken into police custody in May and charged with cause of abortion and premeditated killing of a fetus of another, WROC reports.

Fiske added that she last saw Imran when she testified against him in June.

"It was very empowering for me to face him and say what he had done ... and look him in the face while I said that," Fiske said.

According to Newsweek, Imran had a license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia and was also a former hematology fellow at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. However, questions remain as to how he got a hold of the abortion pill used in the crime.

Fisk is a registered nurse licensed in New York.

Although Imran was supposed to stand trial this week, WROC reports that his trial has been pushed back to March 2018 because he is likely to face even more charges.

News of Sikander's actions has also sparked discussions on social media.

"This is one of the most disgusting stories I've heard all year," DailyWire writer Elliot Hamilton wrote on Twitter. "Yes, this should be first-degree murder. Yes, the unborn child is a person. Where's the Left's condemnation?"

‘Miracle Baby’ Amelia Survives the Abortion Pill

Twenty year-old Shannon Skinner and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Anthony Hunt, were already parents to 14-month-old daughter Lacie when they discovered they were expecting baby number two. Since they had been using contraception, the pregnancy was completely unexpected and the young couple thought abortion would be best. But after Skinner took the abortion pill, their preborn baby girl Amelia became known as an abortion survivor.

“We call her our miracle baby because we just don’t know how she survived,” Skinner told The Daily Mail. “She must have really wanted to be here. Watching her sleep, I can’t bear to think of her not existing. For a long time I felt guilty, but now I just feel relief.”

After Amelia survived the abortion pill, her mother struggled with preterm contractions

Labor and delivery with her first daughter had been brutal on Skinner, causing a third-degree tear and ruptured internal organs. Doctors told her that this second pregnancy so soon after the major surgery to repair the damage would pose a serious threat to her health. Doctors made Skinner feel there was no other option than abortion.

“When I found out I was pregnant with Amelia, my first instinct was to keep her, but I kept thinking of Lacie and how unfair it would be on her if anything happened to me and she was left alone or I couldn’t look after her,” explained Skinner, who was suffering from post-partum depression.

At just about eight weeks gestation, Skinner was given the abortion pill at a Marie Stopes clinic in Bristol in the United Kingdom. Though they nearly changed their minds and walked out of the clinic, Skinner still worried about leaving Lacie motherless and convinced herself that her preborn child wasn’t a baby yet — as the abortion industry would have women believe. 

Skinner was given the two-dose abortion pill regimen, which includes mifepristone to inhibit the progesterone hormone (which is critical to sustaining a preborn child) followed by misoprostol, which she was told to take four hours later. She was also given a contraceptive implant.

For two days, Skinner dealt with bleeding but she told The Daily Mail that it was minor compared to the guilt that was overwhelming her. However, three months later she felt movement and a pregnancy test came back positive. An ultrasound confirmed the amazing news.

“I just bawled my eyes out because it was the last thing I was expecting,” said Skinner. “I was out of my mind with worry that the abortion pill had affected the baby, but it wasn’t until I saw the 3D scan of my daughter on Christmas Eve that I fell in love with her. Once I’d see her face, everything was different.”

She Read the Brochures While She Was Waiting and She Knew They Had Lied to Her

When a vigil participant in St. Paul approached a woman outside Planned Parenthood, she offered two brochures – including one that’s specifically about the abortion pill.

“I told her to be sure to read the information,” the volunteer said. She also encouraged the woman to visit a nearby pregnancy help center.

As the woman left Planned Parenthood an hour later, she asked how to get to “that place” – meaning the pro-life resource center.

She wasn’t sure Planned Parenthood had been completely truthful with her about the side effects of the abortion pill. They apparently told her there were no side effects.

“She read the brochures while she was waiting and she knew they had lied to her,” the 40 Days for Life participant said. “I told her that she had made the right decision and she would never regret it.”

The young woman nodded her head in agreement … with tears streaming down her face.

“Once again, thank you God!” said the St. Paul volunteer.
