Editorial: The Left Seeks to Silence Pro-Life/Pro-Family Voices

By Austin Ruse
Center for Family & Human Rights (C-Fam)

WASHINGTON DC, April 7 (C-Fam) Silencing your opponent. That is now the main response of the political left in America.

You have seen the footage of speakers on college campuses being shouted down. You have heard about the liberal professor attacked by students for defending a conservative professor. You have watched black-masked rioters smashing the windows of stores and burning cars.

We are told that views that may conflict with the liberal world-view are no more than violence and hate and therefore may be silenced.

In recent days, C-Fam has come under that kind of attack and I am deeply worried.

C-Fam’s Lisa Correnti was chosen as a public-sector delegate for the Trump Administration to the just-concluded UN Commission on the Status of Women. Almost immediately the left attacked us. They harassed the US State Department for choosing us. The campaign to silence our voice went global. It was covered by the New York Times and Reuters, along with various LGBT blogs and news-sites.

A few days ago, a group of leftwing Democrat Congressmen sent a letter to US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley demanding that C-Fam never be chosen for another delegation and, ominously, that no other pro-life/pro-family group ever be chosen either.

Analysis: Flawed U.S. Law Would Funnel Money to Abortion Groups Away from Mothers and Infants

By Rebecca Oas, Ph.D and Lisa Correnti
Center for Family and Human Rights

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 26 (C-Fam) World Leaders and the U.S. Congress claim to be united about at least one thing: ending preventable deaths in childbirth and infancy by 2030. But while pending U.S. legislation enjoys bipartisan support and avoids mention of the hot button issues of abortion or contraception, it would divert grants away from real maternal health programs, including faith-based, and funnel them to groups endorsing abortion.

The Reach Every Mother And Child (REACH) Act introduced in the Senate by Senator Susan Collins now with 25 co-sponsors falls short in prioritizing evidence-based interventions that prevent and treat the causes of maternal and child mortality. The REACH Act guidelines are based on an existing USAID initiative, “Acting on the Call,” which relies on implementing organizations mostly known for their population control and abortion practices.

This includes groups like Population Services International (PSI) that distributes millions of medical abortion packages overseas and PATH which developed a self-inject version of the harmful injectable contraceptive Depo Provera. Other partnering organizations include the global family planning initiative “FP2020” which prioritizes funding for Depo, and “FHI360” known for scaling up delivery of Depo through community health workers in developing countries, and Population Action International which lobbies against the Mexico City Policy, an executive order that prohibits US funding to groups that perform or promote abortion.

British Lords Tell US To Fund Abortions Worldwide

By Rebecca Oas, Ph.D
Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam)

NEW YORK, April 15 (C-Fam) A committee in the United Kingdom’s House of Lords claims abortion must be provided to survivors of wartime rape as a matter of both human rights law and international humanitarian law. In a report published this week, the committee harshly criticizes the United States for its law blocking funding for abortions in foreign countries.

The claim to an international right to abortion is eccentric and disputed. In a recent law review article, C-Fam’s Susan Yoshihara presents a detailed analysis of how the opinions of elite international bureaucrats and recommendations of experts on UN committees assert falsely that such a right already exists.

More recently, the laws of war have been seized upon, spearheaded by the abortion advocacy group Global Justice Center and a few allies, including some in the House of Lords.
