2017: A Year of Victories

from Shawn Carney
President, 40 Days for Life

In 2017, more abortion centers closed ... more abortion workers experienced conversions and quit their jobs ... and more mothers chose life for their babies at the last minute.

In fact, last week the Washington Times reported that 32 Planned Parenthood facilities CLOSED in 2017!

Momentum continues to grow ... and we cover it all on the newest edition of the 40 Days for Life podcast!

A whole lot went on during 2017! We'll be hitting the ground running in 2018 for what is expected to be the coldest 40 Days for Life campaign ever, starting on February 14.

Here are the top 6 podcasts from 2017 to help you get ready for 2018:

Right now, we are training local leaders and gearing up for the new year as 2017 comes to a close. Thank you for your prayers, sacrifices and support.

Happy New Year!

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program: Prayer and fasting; Constant vigil; Community outreach.

Good News for Mothers and Babies as Abortions Decrease in Pennsylvania

from Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The annual number of abortions has declined in Pennsylvania, bringing them to their lowest level ever recorded in the Commonwealth, according to figures released by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The figures show that, in 2016, 30,881 abortions occurred in the Keystone State, down about three percent from 31,818 the previous year.

“The decline in abortions is good news for Pennsylvania mothers and babies,” said Maria Gallagher, legislative director for the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, an affiliate of National Right to Life. “Our protective laws, scientific advances such as 4D Ultrasounds, and pregnancy resource centers around the Commonwealth are contributing to this encouraging trend,” Gallagher added.

The Department of Health reports more than 80 percent of abortions in Pennsylvania occurred in four counties: Philadelphia (14,626), Allegheny (6,080), Northampton (3,042), and Dauphin (1,504). The figures indicate the largest contingent of women having abortions were in the age range of 20 to 24 years.

Abortion totals in Pennsylvania would be much higher were it not for the vast number of pregnancy resource centers around the state. “The caring, compassionate individuals within these centers offer everything from diapers to day care referrals, from mentoring to maternity clothes to women and their families,” Gallagher said. “These pregnancy centers are truly a lifeline for women facing challenging circumstances.”

“Make no mistake—every single abortion is a tragedy, because it is the taking of an innocent, unrepeatable human life. Yet, Pennsylvanians can take great pride in the decline in abortions, which has been aided by the loving alternatives to abortion that exist in the Commonwealth,” Gallagher added.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation is a grassroots right-to-life organization with members statewide. As the state affiliate of National Right to Life, PPLF is committed to promoting the dignity and value of human life from conception to natural death and to restoring legal protection for preborn children.  For more information on the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, please use this link.

President Donald Trump Named Operation Rescue's 2017 Pro-Life Person of the Year

Washington, DC - Operation Rescue is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2017 Pro-Life Person of the Year Malachi Award is President Donald J. Trump.

The Malachi Award is given by Operation Rescue every year to recognize individuals who sacrificially work to advance the cause of protecting the pre-born.
"Operation Rescue is grateful President Trump for having the courage to keep promises made during the campaign that provide greater protections for the pre-born and deny Federal funds from those who commit abortions," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "He has proven to be the most pro-life president we have had in modern history and has backed up his pro-life rhetoric with action like no other before him."

Since Trump took office, he has accomplished more for the pro-life agenda than any other president.
  • Trump appointed conservative, pro-life Justice Neil Gorsuch to the U.S, Supreme Court.
  • He has effectively denied public money to those who commit and promote abortions around the world.
  • The Trump Administration Department of Justice has launched a formal investigation into Planned Parenthood's illegal baby parts trafficking scheme.
  • He has actively supported pro-life legislation, such as the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which is currently held up in the U.S. Senate.
  • He supports legislation to defund Planned Parenthood in the U.S., and removed an Obama-era mandate that forced states to continue funding Planned Parenthood.
  • He has worked to fill his administration with pro-life people and put them in places where they can do the most good.
  • Trump's administration has taken active steps within the Health and Human Services and other agencies to establish pro-life policies that protect the pre-born.
  • He has provided protections for those of religious and moral convictions from paying for abortifacient drugs through Obamacare, and continues to work to repeal and replace it.
"We are proud of President Trump and his bold willingness to advance the cause of life. There are more battles ahead, but under the Trump administration, we can now finally see progress within our government toward restoring the sanctity of life and the protections of personhood to the pre-born," said Newman. "This makes President Trump a deserving recipient of the 2017 Pro-Life Person of the Year Malachi Award."

Operation Rescue is one of the leading pro-life Christian activist organizations in the nation and has become a strong voice for the pro-life movement in America. Operation Rescue is now headquartered in a former abortion clinic that it bought and closed in 2006. From there, Operation Rescue launches its innovative new strategies across the nation, exposing and closing abortion clinics through peaceful, legal means. Its activities are on the cutting edge of the abortion issue, taking direct action to stop abortion and ultimately restore legal personhood to the pre-born in obedience to biblical mandates. For more information please use this link.

An Upfront Look at the Horror

Martin Fox, President
National Pro-Life Alliance

One of the best testimonies to the power of ultrasounds is their ability to cut through pro-abortion lies.

In fact, the life-saving power of ultrasounds is why your National Pro-Life Alliance fights at the state and federal level for tough ultrasound laws.

And it’s why the abortion lobby fights with everything they have to make sure a mother will never be shown an ultrasound.

That’s because time and time again, even abortion mill employees who see the fully formed baby on the screen have rejected the pro-abortion agenda.

Take the story of a woman nicknamed Gail, who had just started working at an abortion clinic and didn’t really see the horror.

But everything changed after Gail saw an ultrasound.

The picture was so vivid that Gail could see the precious little baby sucking its thumb and then looked on as her employer tore that baby apart.

Gail was in shock. She immediately called a pro-lifer on the phone, weeping, “I saw an ultrasound during the abortion . . . and the baby was trying to escape . . . to get away . . . but he couldn’t.”

After that, Gail never returned to the abortion mill.

If an ultrasound could have such a profound affect on the abortion industry itself, just imagine what that picture of life could do for pregnant mothers!

The National Pro-Life Alliance occupies a unique and important role in the pro-life movement. The focus of many other pro-life organizations is research, publications or counseling. These are all important and worthy activities, but the National Pro-Life Alliance is singular in its focus on passing pro-life legislation that will protect the unborn from the moment of conception onward. For more information on the National Pro-Life Alliance or to make a donation, please use this link.

Rapper Eminem’s Powerful New Song “River” is a Sorrowful Apology to an Aborted Child

by Corinne Weaver
LifeNews.com

In an unexpected twist, noted rapper Eminem has released a single that details his experience with abortion. The media hailed his new album, Revival, as an anti-Trump anthem, but they missed an important detail.

While the artist is best known for his rape-raps and angry diatribes against society, one single, “River,” took a different approach. The song is a detailed confession of an affair, an abortion, and the regret that came after. Whether fictional or based on reality, River is a powerful cry for forgiveness for the wrong he’s done to the aborted baby (the “little one” mentioned in the refrain) and the mother.

The lyrics tell the whole story, sparing no detail: Eminem admitted to being a serial cheater, “a sex addict,” who began an affair with a woman, “Suzanne.” After what started as a one-night-stand, which left her feeling “deserted and used,” Eminem tried to cover all evidence of their liaison. However, the woman became pregnant.

In a panic, the rapper pushed for an abortion, “We can’t bring her in this world, shoulda knew/To use protection.” He didn’t dance around the issue, but was brutally honest: “I made you terminate my baby.” ‘Baby,” the proper term for an unborn child, but one major media outlets hide from.

Afterwards, Eminem felt that “the person who I’m turning into’s/Irreversible.” He confessed that not only did he take advantage of the woman, but also the abortion and the destruction of the woman’s relationship have made him a hypocrite. He said that when he got “on my soapbox and preach, my sermon and speech,” his mistake was like “detergent and bleach is burnin’ the wound.”

2017: A Great Year for Life in Pennsylvania!

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

The year 2017 has been an outstanding year for the cause of life in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Senate and the House of Representatives took a strong stand against dismemberment abortions with the passage of Senate Bill 3. Governor Tom Wolf's rejection of this compassionate piece of legislation demonstrates the extreme nature of his pro-abortion agenda.

After years of serious health and safety violations, the Hillcrest abortion facility in Harrisburg shut its doors for good--a clear victory for women in the midstate.

Pregnancy help centers throughout the state served women and their families with selfless support, understanding, and kindness. Our abortion rate would be much higher if it were not for these often unsung heroes.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation has been reaching hundreds of thousands of people through radio and television appearances, newspaper columns and letters to the editor. A half-million Pennsylvania teenagers have benefited from our successful Internet outreach program, which connects them with life-saving and life-changing information.

From fairs to festivals, from conferences to community events, chapters of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation have been educating friends and neighbors about the steps to take to rebuild a culture of life in the Commonwealth.

As we look forward to 2018, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your commitment to the pro-life cause. Thanks to your generous help, we are renewing the culture in our state--one heart and one life at a time.

BASIC CARE, HUMAN DIGNITY, AND CARE FOR MEDICALLY VULNERABLE PERSONS

Physical and cognitive disability should not mean one’s situation is considered “end of life,” yet too many persons who are not dying are described this way.

By Bobby Schindler for
Charlotte Lazier Institute

Earlier this year, Oregon’s state legislature considered a bill that would have increased the number of medically vulnerable persons at risk of an untimely death. Oregon’s SB 494 would have redefined food and water delivered by a cup or spoon—everyday utensils—as a regulated, physician-controlled form of “medical care” rather than the “basic and ordinary” care that common sense suggests.

In Oregon, patients who are awake, conscious, and aware—but were unable to feed themselves due to disability, brain injury, or lack of physical mobility—would have faced the real chance of being denied food and water.[i] Fortunately, despite Oregon’s Senate passage in a 17–13 vote, the House referred the bill to a committee where it was tabled for the session.

However, as disconcerting as such a bill is, a much less understood and equally pernicious reality is this: It is already legal in every state to withhold or deny food and water by means of a feeding tube to patients who are not actively dying and not facing any active “end of life” issue.

BreakPoint: Being Pro-Life at Google

The Case for Life is Strong

by John Stonestreet
BreakPoint

Is it possible to argue effectively for the rights of the unborn to a secular audience? Just Google it!

Many were surprised when Tim Keller was invited to give a Google Talk back in 2008 about his book, “The Reason for God.” The tech giant, like most denizens of Silicon Valley, has a reputation for being socially progressive and devoted to a set of values that are, shall we say, different than those of conservative Christians. By inviting him to talk to its staff, Google signaled an openness, not only to Christian ideas, but to real and healthy dialogue.

Keller was even invited to speak a second time at Google. But recently, an even more surprising Google Talk speaker than Keller visited their headquarters.

Stephanie Gray is a Canadian pro-life apologist. She travels the world making the case for the humanity and personhood of the unborn. She’s co-founder of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform and now leads a ministry called Love Unleashes Life.

Her talk at Google just a few days ago wasn’t just unprecedented, it was amazing. In fact, within 24 hours, it surpassed the popularity of another talk by Planned Parenthood president, Cecile Richards.

Human Respect in a Toxic Climate

By Judie Brown
American Life League

Gilbert Keith Chesterton once wrote that “a society is in decay, final or transitional, when common sense really becomes uncommon.”

Today we can safely say that America is in such a state. Far too many have forgotten that human sexuality is a gift from God. Even Christians have—in many cases—chosen not to know and believe that “in the Christian mystical tradition, conjugal love has always been considered a symbol and image of God's love for us.” Instead, we treat sex as a toy that can be bandied about, distorted, kicked, insulted, and otherwise made to look like a social football rather than the precious gift it is.

In the case of alleged sexual misconduct, for example, the rules have changed. Normally, “when an accusation is made, the first rule of our society and our laws is that the accused are innocent until proven guilty.” But in today’s culture the opposite is the norm—at least in some cases. We see this in a women’s clothing line that has created a sweatshirt publicizing a list of the men who have fallen under the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct. Since the shirt is inspired by politically motivated feminist rhetoric, included in the list is, of course, the president of the United States.

American Life League exists to serve God by helping to build a society that respects and protects individual innocent human beings from creation to death—without compromise, without exception, without apology.

The distinguishing mark of American Life League, by which we will be recognized, is our absolute commitment to the sacredness of every innocent human being’s life.  For more information, please use this link.

I Was An Unplanned Pregnancy

by Bethany Goodman
March for Life Education and Defense Fund

Story submitted by Shelley Sprouffske

Catherine was a 35 year old bartender. She was already a single mom. Upon realizing she was pregnant, she chose to work full time through the pregnancy and at 36 weeks, walked into the doctor’s office for the first time. “I’m going to have a baby that you’re going to deliver, and the baby needs a home.”

Upon the birth of that baby, an angel on earth named Linda was there to care for her until the newborn found her forever home.

Linda met Tom and Karol during the transfer of custody. With one day’s notice, they adopted this little girl. They picked up diapers and formula at 7-11 and headed to Bill and Betty’s for a 101 on feeding and changing a baby.

That baby was me.

The mission of the March for Life is to provide all Americans with a place to testify to the beauty of life and the dignity of each human person. Both in January, on the anniversary of legalized abortion in the US, and throughout the year we bring together pro-life leaders and groups to organize, unite and strategize around a common message, and to communicate this message to the government, the media and the nation in a way that is powerful and life affirming. Daily Prayer to End Abortion from Priests for Life

Daily Prayer to End Abortion

Lord God,
I thank you today for the gift of my life,
And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.

I know there is nothing
that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.

I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.

I commit myself
to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
And our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, but for all.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

Pennsylvanian's for Human Life will host their annual banquet on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Springfield Country Club. Special guest speaker for the event this year is Ann McElhinney, a New York Times best-selling author. Ann along with her husband, Phelem McAleer wrote 'Gosnell, The Untold Story of America's Most Prolific Serial Killer' and produced 'Gosnell the Movie'.

Ann's book debuted at #3 on Amazon Best Seller list and sold out in three days after publication.  Ann along with her husband and film director, Magdalena Seigieda produced the Gosnell movie.  They financed the movie by running a massive crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. It was Indiegogo's most successful campaign every.

James Wood, the Philadelphia detective who led the Gosnell investigation will be the recipient of the Margaret Hoffner Award, Pennsylvanian's for Human Life's highest award.

Tickets are $75.00 each or $700 for a table of ten. Student tickets are $35.00 each. Additional information on this banquet can be found at their website using this link or by calling 610-696-0780.

An important part of PHL’s educational mission is the sponsorship of an annual Celebrate Life Banquet. These banquets, as well as the luncheons and conferences which PHL has sponsored, serve three purposes.
  • An opportunity to learn about issues and new developments in the battle to protect human lives.
  • A social event enabling the supporters of PHL and of the right to life in general to meet and recognize that we are not alone and that we are not few.
  • For the Annual Banquet in particular this is an important source of funds for the continuation of PHL’s mission.

PHL is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in 1970 (before Roe v Wade) to provide educational presentations on pro-life issues. While a number of other pro-life organizations have been formed in the Philadelphia area since that time, PHL is the only one which has continuously focused on its original mission, education. The other organizations, many of them split off from PHL, have focused on other pro-life issues such as chastity, crisis pregnancy, political action, post-abortion support, and legislation.

New Findings Confirm Danger of The Pill

Jonathan Abbamonte

Population Research Institute

A study published last week in The New England Journal of Medicine has found that hormonal contraceptives, including oral contraceptive pills and hormone-releasing IUDs, significantly increase women’s risk for breast cancer.

The study found that women who used hormonal contraception had a 20 percent elevated risk[1] for breast cancer compared to women who had never used a hormonal method.

The risk was also found to be time-dependent, increasing the longer the hormonal drugs were used. Women who used hormonal contraception longer than 10 years saw their risk for breast cancer increase by almost 40 percent.[2]

While the study showed that the breast cancer risk decreased after stopping hormonal contraception, for women who used a hormonal method for five years or more, the effects of drug lingered. Women who used hormonal contraception longer than five years saw a significant elevated risk for breast cancer even five years or more after discontinuation.

Nineveh 90 - 90 Days of Prayer & Penance to End Abortion - Starts January 1st!

from Very Reverend Richard Heilman

Nineveh 90
January 1 to March 31 (Easter Vigil)

There is no doubt that we are facing a pivotal moment in history. This is "our time" to step up and see this "momentum shift" to its conclusion.

When the Apostles asked the Savior why they had been unable to drive the evil spirit from a demoniac, Our Lord gave a "key" for what intensifies or increases the power of our prayers:
"This kind is not cast out but by prayer and fasting" (Matthew 17:21). So, too, the evil which today torments humanity can be conquered only by a world-wide crusade of prayer *and* penance.

That will be the intensity of this 90-day challenge of prayer and penance for the babies!!

Please make every effort to get all of your friends and family to join this extremely important 90-day prayer crusade (January 1 to Easter Vigil) to rescue our culture and put an end to the killing of millions of innocent children through abortion. We believe God will hear us!!

SIGN UP HERE: JOIN NINEVEH 90

On the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12), we recalled how, in 1531, an entire culture of Mexico turned, virtually overnight, from the brutal Aztec practice of human sacrifice to one of the mightiest Christian cultures on the planet. It is estimated that nine million Mexicans turned to our Lord, almost instantly, through the intercession of Our Lady.

Many of us have been praying for our country, and we are beginning to see a shift that, quite frankly, is astounding. Signs abound, such as the outrage over the objectification of women, and liberal news sources reporting on the dangerous side effects of contraception and abortion.

As we pray for the conversion of our country, we have a unique opportunity to end pre-born child killing through a Personhood Proclamation Presidential Executive Order.

January 14, 2018 is the 30th Anniversary of Ronald Reagan's Personhood Proclamation. It was not a Presidential Executive Order. But now with President Trump, we have an opportunity for a Presidential Executive Order.

We need to pray for the President to take this action which will force for the Courts to adjudicate personhood and encourage him by, first, contacting him. For complete campaign and how to email, call, tweet, and otherwise contact the President, Protestchildkilling.com
But, more than anything else, this is our time to "go all in" with our prayer and penances, as we call out to (beg!!) God, through the intercession of Our Lady, to bring an end to the murder of millions of innocents through abortion.

THE NINEVEH 90 CHALLENGE

Nineveh 90 - the 90 days from January 1 to March 31 (Easter Vigil). For our Nineveh 90 challenge, we are embracing the great values of prayer, mortification, a support system, and the research in the behavioral sciences that says 90 days is about the time needed to change bad habits ... if we want to see our world "turn," we must demonstrate to God our willingness to "turn first."

We will also be using some of the tried and true very powerful supernatural elements.Namely, the Brown Scapular, 54 Day Rosary Novena, and the 33 Day Preparation for Marian Consecration.

Why Nineveh 90? Recall the story of Nineveh in the Book of Jonah ... Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: "Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you."

Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it. Jonah began by going a day's journey into the city, proclaiming, "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown." The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.

When Jonah's warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:

"By the decree of the king and his nobles:

Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish."
When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened (Jonah 3:3-10)
They "Turned!!" There was a momentum shift back to God!!!

From Michelle Linn Fallon:
"I want to encourage everyone thinking about this to do it. I did this in a way without calling it this beginning in September when we did the first novena for our nation. I got up before 6am and worked up to 11 workouts a week. I've lost 40 pounds. I look great. I feel great. I've lost my taste for sweets. Broken my addiction to soft drinks from childhood. I have little sugar, little dairy and don't want it. I am no longer considered obese and only slightly overweight according to my doctor. In 10 pounds my BMI will be normal again. My prayer life is more consistent. I hardly miss a day on this second novena so I rarely have days to make up prayers. I've joined a lay apostolate. Amazing things happen when you offer the discipline to God. Amazing prayers have been answered for me and I've witnessed miracles in my life. I can't fast on bread because I can't eat bread. But I can deny myself other things. I have health issues that keep me from some of the fasting things. But I can deny myself sleeping in when I want to and pray instead. It's all habits. Do what you can do and focus on that. Let God do the rest. He will!"
