Woman Seeks Biological Embryo 'Swap' With Stranger Because She Wants Boy, Not Girl

"To trade a human embryo is to trade a human being. Human beings are not commodities to be traded like baseball cards," Nikolas T. Nikas, Bioethics Defense Fund

A New York-based actress named "Lisa" reached out to other women in order to exchange her and her husband's own embryo for another because she wants a boy and not a girl.

The New York Post reported that the 37-year-old actress, whose last name was not given and who has struggled with infertility for several years wanted another son, and her son was begging for a brother. So she decided to pursue making a trade.

Last Wednesday Lisa posted in online forums the following message:

"Hello, we have been trying to give my child a sibling for three years . . . we want to complete our family with a son. We have a great quality female embryo. Would you like to consider a trade?"
The female embryo she offered was comprised of her own egg and her husband Ray's sperm. The male embryo she was seeking is comprised of the gametes of two different people.

Although she received significant pushback for her sex-selection ethic and her post was removed, she eventually found a woman from California in her forties who was interested in a possible swap.

Both couples are storing their frozen embryos at a fertility center, and might go forward with the trade if the woman's husband approves it.

"It depends whether he is hell-bent on [using] his own DNA," Lisa said.
This California woman's husband reportedly told her that if she was going to be pregnant again "it's going to be a girl!" since her husband already had six sons from a previous marriage and another son with her.

The New York Post also reported that Lisa is "unfazed" by criticisms from people who are offended she would give up her biological child and raise someone else's just because she wants a girl and not a boy.

Doctor Offered to “Get Rid of the Pregnancy” and Abort the Baby if Tests Showed a Girl

By Indya Rennie
Life News

It is ironic that the abortion industry, which claims to be liberating women, is zealously killing them before they are born.

A gynecologist in Gurugram, India allegedly was caught contributing to India’s gender imbalance problem by illegally offering to provide sex selection abortions for unborn baby girls.

The doctor was exposed after interacting with a Matiala resident who was taking his brother-in-law’s pregnant wife to the doctor’s clinic, Medical Dialogues reports. The 30-year-old mother also has a 12-year-old daughter and had undergone two previous miscarriages.

During her clinical visit on Jan. 6, the gynecologist allegedly offered to provide sex-selective services.

“During the test, the doctor asked her whether she desired a boy or a girl child,” the Matiala resident informed TOI. “The doctor also told the patient that her contacts in Dubai would help her getting a sex determination test done. And in case of a female child, they would also help her get rid of the pregnancy.”
This encounter prompted the Matiala resident to file a complaint with the Gurugram health department.

B. K. Rajora, Gurugram’s chief medical officer, confirmed that he received the complaint. The clinic and the doctor must now comply with a “show cause” notice and attempt to explain the doctor’s actions, according to the report. In addition, the clinic will face action under the PC-PNDT act of India, because the gynecologist allegedly performed an obstetrics ultrasound without being registered.

Rajora informed TOI: “We will complete the inquiry by the end of next week. And if found guilty, we will take necessary action.”

Sex selection abortions have been illegal in India since 1994, when lawmakers passed the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Regulation and Prevention of Misuse Act to address the alarming distorted ratio of boys to girls in India.

Study Finds Sex-Selective Abortion Does Not Decrease with Assimilation

"My husband said that I must give him a son…If not, I will have to get an abortion because he does not want another daughter."

In some South and East Asian cultures, a strong emphasis on male heirs has led to strong son preference and the practice of sex-selective abortion. Women, girls, and females yet unborn continue to suffer the drastic consequences of extreme son preference, including physical or verbal abuse from family members or spouses for women who fail to produce a son or abort their unborn daughters.

The toll son preference has had on unborn girls has been staggering. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) estimates that some 117 million girls are now missing across Asia and Eastern Europe due to the practice of sex-selective abortion.

Demographers have long been aware that some immigrants living in the West from South and East Asian countries continue to practice sex-selective abortion even after relocating. It has been widely assumed that son preference diminishes by itself over time with assimilation, decreasing the longer immigrant couples have resided in their new home countries.

But a new study released last week by the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada shows that heavily male-biased sex ratios at birth do not improve the longer some immigrant women have lived in Canada.

In the study, singleton birth records were analyzed for nearly 47,000 Indian-Canadian women living in Ontario from 1993-2014. Among Indian-Canadian women overall, sex-selection generally did not become apparent until the third birth, and only if the previous two births were girls.

[1] But for women at parity 3 with two prior female births, researchers found that almost twice as many boys (1.92; 95% CI 1.73-2.12) were born for every girl.[2] Sex ratios at birth overall also tended to be slightly biased toward males at parity 2 when the first birth was also male.[3] Normal sex ratios at birth, without sex-selective abortion, typically range from about 1.03 to 1.07 boys for every girl.
“Certain women are forced to bear the burden of backward cultural attitudes on son preference prevalent in their former home countries,” Mosher says, “these women deserve our compassion and support so that they are not pressured into a scenario where they believe that they have to surrender their rights and the very lives of their unborn daughters to satisfy an unjust cultural standard. Sex-selective abortion is unacceptable regardless of who practices it or the motives for it.”

Police Find 19 Aborted Girl Babies Abandoned Near a Hospital

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

Police in India are investigating a Maharashtra hospital after they uncovered the bodies of 19 aborted baby girls and a woman died in a botched abortion.

The news is another sign of the continuing problem of sex-selection abortions and the targeting of unborn girls. Sex-selection abortions are illegal in India, as are sex-determination procedures and tests, but investigations like these indicate the practice continues anyway.

The BBC reports last week, police found 19 aborted baby girls buried near the hospital “with the intention of disposing” the bodies at a later time.

Police said they began investigating the hospital after learning of a woman who died in a botched abortion on Feb. 28. They said they were looking for the woman’s aborted baby when they discovered the other bodies.“It appears to be an abortion racket. We have arrested the husband of the woman, and have launched a manhunt for the doctor who has gone missing,” Dattatray Shinde, superintendent of police, told the BBC.

The husband allegedly wanted the abortion after learning his wife was carrying a girl, their third child, according to the Times of India. The woman was 26 years old and died on Feb. 28 after the abortion, according to police.

Planned Parenthood wins injunction against Indiana law protecting preborn babies from discrimination

By Josh Denton
Live Action News

On Tuesday, Planned Parenthood asked a judge to throw out an Indiana law that protects unborn babies from being aborted solely because of their sex, race, or a genetic disorder like Down syndrome.

Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky and the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit this spring challenging HB 1337, which was signed into law by Governor Mike Pence.

Life News reported:

Judge Tanya Walton Pratt of the U.S. Court for the Southern District of Indiana granted Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky’s request for an injunction against the measure, known as the Dignity for the Unborn Law, before it could take effect tomorrow.

The bill would have also have stipulated that the bodies of aborted babies be disposed of in a respectful fashion (such as cremation or proper burial) by the abortion facility. North Dakota was the first state to pass such a law in 2013.

Planned Parenthood does not object to abortion on the basis of the child’s sex or disability, and therefore, is encouraging the overturning of a law that respects the dignity of the preborn as human beings. In Live Action’s own investigations into sex-selective abortions in the United States, they found Planned Parenthood representatives more than willing to abort these children for discriminatory reasons — or any reason at all — in several states.
