The Life Is Precious School Edition teaches children in kindergarten through 2nd grade about the dignity of all human beings. Using picture books and fun crafts, Life Is Precious School Edition teaches fetal development, the uniqueness of each individual, how we should all stand up for others, and how to defend pro-life principles.

Throughout this 4-week unit study, children read picture books like Tomie dePaola’s The Baby Sister and Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! and learn about the pro-life themes in these books through discussion, crafts, and games. The highlight of the unit study is the project on fetal development in which students create a flipbook with true-to-size images of preborn babies in various stages of growth.

Baby Born After RU-486 Reversal is ‘Light of Our Life,’ says Father

WASHINGTON (CNS) — Two-month-old Gabriel Caicedo is one of 78 children who have been saved by a new medical protocol being used to reverse the effects of the RU-486 abortion regimen in its early stages.

The baby is “the light of our life,” said his father, Chris Caicedo.

He and Gabriel’s mother, Andrea Minichini, told their story at a Feb. 23 news conference held by the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life to call attention to a RU-486 reversal kit available to physicians.

The RU-486 medical abortion procedure is a two-day regimen used to terminate early pregnancies by blocking the hormone progesterone needed to sustain a pregnancy. It involves two types of medication — RU-486 itself, which is mifepristone, and a prostaglandin, known as misoprostol, that stimulates uterine contractions, and taken two days later to expel the fetus.

At the news conference, association officials and Fr. Pavone said the reversal kits work to counteract the “abortion pill” by increasing the levels of progesterone in the mother’s body.

The RU-486 protocol, approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2000, involves three visits to a physician’s office over the course of two weeks and has been known to cause complications ranging from stomach pain and bleeding to death resulting from sepsis.

According to the FDA’s website, despite the risks associated with it, many women go through with the protocol but end up having a surgical abortion because of “medical abortion treatment failures.”

“It’s not a ‘quick and easy process,'” said Dr. Mary L. Davenport, a former president of the obstetrician association. Besides the 20 percent risk that a woman will have a serious complication such as blood loss, severe infection or ectopic pregnancy, “the woman also has the guilt of knowing that she terminated her pregnancy,” she told reporters.

Dr. Matthew Harrison, a family practice physician from North Carolina, was the first doctor to perform a medical abortion reversal, and he also addressed the news conference.

He recounted the case of a woman who came to him in 2007. According to Harrison, the woman had been to an abortion clinic where she was “bullied and pressured” into opting for a medical abortion.

The mother wanted to know if there was any way to stop the effects of the drug. At the clinic, he said, “they gave her no hope. They said, ‘There’s nothing you can do; you have to complete this procedure.'”

Harrison told the woman, “I need to step out and pray” about her request. “Then I said a prayer and started looking through books and thinking about how RU-486 works,” he told reporters. “It essentially just blocks the progesterone receptors and starves the baby.”

Harrison then immediately took some progesterone he had on hand for fertility treatments and, after informing the mother that the treatment might not work, injected her with the hormone.

She later gave birth to a little girl, who survived with “no problems and no ill effects” and, according to Harrison, is now “an excited little cheerleader for her local football team and just a great little joy to be around. She’s doing wonderfully.” Her mother went back to school and is now a respiratory technician and has purchased a house.

Since Harrison’s discovery, Davenport and Dr. George Delgado, medical director of the Culture of Life Family Services in San Diego, have published a series of case studies “demonstrating successful reversal of mifepristone effects in women who chose to reverse the medical abortion process.”

Delgado, who also is a member of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, heads the Culture of Life’s reversal program.

In her comments at the news conference, Minichini, recounted her experience in a Planned Parenthood exam room last summer. Through tears of pain and uncertainty, she told the nurses that she wanted to have an abortion. After being informed of the rate of her unborn son’s heartbeat, she said, she couldn’t bring herself to swallow the large, white pill in her hand.

But she was repeatedly chided by the supervising doctor, she said, and so gave in and took the pill.

“I knew immediately after I swallowed the pill that I had made a bad decision,” Minichini said. “I even tried throwing up, but nothing happened.” At a hospital in New Jersey, she was told that her child would be deformed and disabled if she didn’t take the second pill in the RU-486 procedure.

“I was just at an end,” she said. “I didn’t have any hope, so I just started Googling,” before finding a hotline number that put her in touch with a physician who could reverse the medical abortion.

Gabriel David Caicedo was born Dec. 31, 2014, weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces and measuring 21 inches long. Despite what his mother was told back in May, Gabriel is an extremely healthy and energetic child.

“He’s very active, always awake and alert, making eye contact,” Minichini told Catholic News Service. “He just rolled over for the first time last week at 6 weeks old.”

To other young men facing unexpected fatherhood, Gabriel’s father urged contemplation.

“Take a deep breath and think about the situation. It’s a hard situation to go through, but it’s not as bad as many fathers think that it is. They (kids) are just a blessing to be quite honest. He gives us more ambition to progress (in life). … You just have to grab the bull by the horns,” said Chris Caicedo, adding, “Gabe is the light of our life, and this (pro-life) message is his purpose.”

Andrea, 22, is currently studying to be a physician’s assistant and Chris, 23, is studying accounting.

Stories such as Gabriel’s are important because they have the power to change minds about life and inspire hope in the face of abortion, according to Father Pavone. “The pro-life movement is about saving lives,” he stated, “and we save lives by taking despair and replacing it with hope.”

“There is not one person here who cannot save a life by spreading the news about this technique,” the priest told reporters, “the goal of the pro-life movement is to end all abortion, and for babies like Gabriel, who are here today because of this technique, abortion did end. It was conquered; it was overcome.”

The Culture of Life Family Services has a network of about 200 participating physicians around the country using the reversal procedure.

The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists hopes that the reversal kits will eventually be available in emergency rooms and pregnancy crisis centers across the country to become more accessible to women who want to reverse the effects of RU-486.

Ignorant Slaves

Pattharamon Janbua is a surrogate mother who carried twins for an Australian couple. Upon learning that one of the twins had Down syndrome, the couple pressed Janbua to get an abortion. She refused and the couple chose to abandon that child and take only the healthy baby.

This is a chilling story, but one with a happy ending for the baby. You see, in this case, the surrogate mother chose to keep and raise him, telling a reporter her respect for the dignity of the human person had no preconditions for earning that respect. Janbua loves the baby unconditionally. And she pointed out that abortion is against her Buddhist religion.

Lucetta Scaraffia, an Italian feminist columnist with the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, heard of the case and, according to the Washington Post opined, “We should not be surprised if parents who have ordered a baby and rented a woman’s womb refuse it at birth if it is not healthy and perfect. . . . In fact if a child becomes a product to buy, it is obvious that as with any acquisition it must meet with the buyer’s approval.”

The Post continued, 

The strongly worded commentary was written by prominent Catholic feminist and regular contributor Lucetta Scaraffia, who argued the child’s rejection was to be expected in the “explosive mix” of consumerism combined with a “throwaway culture.”

“Now everyone is indignant, or making a show of being indignant,” Scaraffia said. “In reality there is little to be indignant about—if you accept the logic that a child is a product this is the obvious consequence. We should not treat it as an isolated case.”

Mothers Against Children

Colorado’s senator, Mark Udall, is running for reelection this year. Apparently his opponent has taken some positions on various questions that are upsetting to the senator, so much so that his campaign public relations folks have created an ad “exposing” his opponent.

I never get involved in politics because, as is clear in this race, there is no man of pro-life principle involved. But let’s take a look at the ad in question. Whether you are a man or a woman, a young person or a more mature one, the message has got to chill your bones unless, of course, you are a dyed-in-the-wool abortion advocate. The reason for my sickened response is simple.

You see, the content of the ad and the actors playing the roles of mother and child struck me immediately as a sign of the times in which we live. Why, you might ask, did I feel a gut wrenching twist as I viewed it?

The young mother and her daughter look lovingly into the camera as the mother explains that she wants her daughter to have the same “choices” she has had in her lifetime. This young mother wants her daughter to be able to decide to choose the abortion of a child in the future because she, the mother, could have aborted her daughter if that had been her decision. The choice is what is important, she is saying, not what the result of the choice could be—life or death of a human being.

The Hypocrisy of Nancy Pelosi

 Tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors are flooding across the Southern border of the U.S., and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House and perhaps the most infamous "pro-abortion Catholic politician" in America chooses this time to defend children.

    Just earlier this year she was awarded AND ACCEPTED the Margaret Sanger Award from PLANNED PARENTHOOD, the largest abortionist in the U.S., and the biggest killer of babies worldwide.

    But now, she says she wants to conform to the U.S. Bishop's request to treat the incoming illegal immigrant children--who were sent unaccompanied by their own parents to the U.S.--to treat these children as if "they were baby Jesus."

    Pelosi has personally helped lead so many innocent babies, made in the image of God Himself, straight to the violent slaughter mills of Planned Parenthood--and yet she audaciously pretends to respect the teachings of the Church!

    Nancy Pelosi stating we should honor the wishes of the U.S. Bishops is like Satan himself quoting scripture, and saying we should listen to Christ. Unbelievable.

    The fact she references obedience to a U.S. Bishops statement NOW is ludicrous--it's convenient selective hypocritical insanity raised to the highest order.

   She's the walking dead, and her vomiting up the U.S. Bishops concern for illegal immigrant children is so disgustingly ironic it demands we light her up!

   It is time Congresswoman Pelosi hears from ALL OF US, that you can't be pro-abortion and be Catholic! You can't accept an award from Planned Parenthood for killing babies, then feign concern for children! (Use this link to contact Ms. Pelosi)

Babies as enemies: Planned Parenthood’s Sterile Sexuality Dehumanizes Preborn

Sex could not have been more disconnected from the concept of creating life.

The message I’d heard loud and clear was that the purpose of sex was for pleasure and bonding, that its potential for creating life was purely tangential, almost to the point of being forgotten about altogether. This mindset laid the foundation of my views on abortion. Because I saw sex as being closed to the possibility to life by default, I thought of pregnancies that weren’t planned as akin to being struck by lightning while walking down the street: Something totally unpredictable, undeserved, that happened to people living normal lives.

So said Jennifer Fulwiler, former atheist turned Catholic, in a recent National Catholic Register blog post.

Her words struck me like lightning: “I saw sex as being closed to the possibility of life by default, I thought of pregnancies that weren’t planned as akin to being struck by lightning while walking down the street.”
I had struggled with unanswered questions for decades. After reading her words, three things became very clear to me:

1. Planned Parenthood’s persistent, early sex education—where almost anything goes as long as we protect ourselves from the blight of babies—has warped the understanding of the very meaning and purpose of human sexuality for an entire generation and for our society. Sex, which by nature is life-giving, is closed to the possibility of life by default.

2. The abortion giant’s constant manipulation of the very purpose and meaning of human sexuality has so twisted our society that it literally laid the groundwork for today’s abortion holocaust.

3. Women are able to actually make a decision to pay to have their own children killed because the sterile sex culture created by Planned Parenthood and its cohorts has completely permeated the minds, hearts, and souls of a large portion of this generation.

A Notre Dame Professor Urges the Pope to “Rethink Abortion”

Writing at the website of the New York Times, Gary Gutting, a philosophy professor from the University of Notre Dame, invites Pope Francis to “rethink” the Church’s position on the question of abortion.  Needless to say, the rethinking is supposed to end not in a clearer and more persuasive presentation of the Church’s traditional teaching, but instead a weakening of it.  I’d like to note what I think are two weaknesses in Professor Gutting’s piece.

First, there is a disappointing partisanship to it.  Professor Gutting opens his argument by noting “the dogmatic intransigence that has long cast a pall over the religious life of many Roman Catholics.”  This might be true, but it is at best a partial truth.  One could just as easily characterize the exact same phenomenon as the “unswerving fidelity to its teaching that has long been an inspiration to many Catholics, and even a cause of admiration by certain non-Catholics.”  This is to say nothing of the possibility of also acknowledging the “dogmatic intransigence” of, say, the New York Times on this very issue.  The Times, after all, is not noted for its flexibility on what it thinks is a right to abortion.

You might think, and hope, that a professor at a Catholic university would start out with some predisposition in favor of the Church’s traditional teaching, especially on a matter of such great importance.  In Professor Gutting’s case, however, you would be disappointed.  If that expectation had to be dashed, then you might hope, as a last resort, that as a philosopher pure and simple Professor Gutting would begin with no prejudicial remarks on either side of the question.  You would be wrong here, too.

STOP: Please Don't Buy Those Girl Scout Cookies

Is your daughter, granddaughter or a neighbor's child asking you to buy Girl Scout cookies? Please think twice.

American Life League has joined with other pro-life organizations in the call for a national boycott of Girl Scout cookies. As I said in my press release today, the Girl Scouts was once a trusted organization dedicated to character building in young girls and women. Now, GSUSA is abusing that trust.

Most parents and grandparents remain painfully unaware that GSUSA has introduced so-called 'family planning' ideology in its curriculum and promotes groups like Planned Parenthood to our daughters and granddaughters. GSUSA is the largest member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, a group that advocates for "affordable, accessible, safe abortion." GSUSA participated in a "girls only" United Nations workshop in 2010 with Planned Parenthood where a sex education pamphlet titled "Happy, Healthy, and Hot" instructed young girls not to think of sex as "just about vaginal or anal intercourse." It continued, "There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore, and be yourself!"

The GSUSA curriculum now promotes Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, Betty Friedan, founder of NARAL Prochoice, and other pro-abortion women as icons for our children to emulate. GSUSA even directs girls to explore organizations like Population Center.

I know you don't want to disappoint that little girl asking you to buy her cookies. But, while the girls themselves keep on average approximately 15% of the purchase price, the local councils - that introduce girls to a pro-abortion worldview-keep the lion's share of the profit from cookie sales.

ALL hopes that the cookie boycott will raise awareness with parents and grandparents that Girl Scouts is no longer the organization they grew up with and once trusted. When that Girl Scout comes to your door or you see her in front of the local grocery store or in the mall, check to see if there is an adult present. If there is, you may want to give the adult this flier that explains why you cannot buy the cookies.

There are more wholesome ways (and safer ways) to spend your hard-earned cookie money.

I am writing today with an URGENT request. There is a preborn baby in Texas who will be put to death by Monday at 5:00 PM if all of us don't act immediately. Since November 26, 2013, Baby Munoz' mother, Marlise Munoz, has been treated at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Marlise was found unconscious by her husband and was taken to the hospital. She was put on life support and has been taken care of by the hospital for the last eight weeks. She is pregnant and her baby is still alive. Baby Munoz is just 22 weeks old and needs to stay in mom's womb for a few more weeks to have a good chance of survival. The problem is that Marlise Munoz has been declared "brain dead" by doctors and the doctors, her husband, and her parents want treatment stopped. They want Marlise and her baby to be killed. The hospital has been the good guy here and has refused to stop treatment. The family took the hospital to court and, on Friday... The judge ordered the hospital to kill both the mother and child by taking life support away from the mother! The hospital is considering whether or not to appeal the ruling. Any appeal will give Baby Munoz more time to develop and increase the chances of survival. Because of the "brain death" declaration, many people are making this into a complicated case. It is not. Your American Life League has been fighting these "Brain Death" declarations for years and, sadly, we predicted just this kind of thing, and worse, would happen. I could write volumes on why "brain death" is NOT true death and why medical personnel could not keep a truly dead person functioning for 8 weeks. But we don't have time for that. We need to save this mother and child and we need to do it immediately. We need you to call the hospital and beg them to continue fighting for the mother and child and to appeal the judge's ruling. Forty-One Years Later the Cruelty Rages

On the eve of the tragic anniversary of Supreme Court decriminalized slaughter—Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton—the opportunity arises to examine what is involved if we are turn the tide.

To do that honestly means that the facts should be examined objectively.

The first of these facts and certainly the most important is that, though abortion is an act that robs a human being of his life, the public does not perceive it in that light. To do so would require thoughtful reflection on the difference between good and evil.

America prefers to ignore the obvious and relegate the crime to a “choice.”

The second fact is that abortion occurs in a multitude of ways including the chemical actions of a birth control pill or other contraceptive device; the surgical action of an abortion doctor, physician assistant, or nurse-midwife; or in the reproductive technology laboratory.

Each act is a horror that should never have been protected by law. Having said that, once the damage was done, politics took over.

The third fact is that, from the political perspective, abortion became an “issue” that defined two distinctly different political groups—conservative versus liberal. Consequently, one political group chose to oppose surgical abortion in most cases while never attempting to expose the early abortions caused by birth control. From May 1973, with the introduction of the flawed Buckley Amendment, language of compromise crept into pro-life political rhetoric.

The fourth fact is that reproductive technology came into the picture in 1978 with the birth of the first in vitro fertilization baby, Louise Brown. Pro-life leaders, political and for the most part educational, were silent on the matter. Even the Catholic Church was slow to respond, waiting until 1987 to definitively expose the evils of IVF and related practices in the teaching document Donum Vitae.

The early days exposed a weakness among us, an inability to deal honestly and frankly with the many evils in our midst that contribute to what was crystallized in 1995 by Pope John Paul II as the “culture of death.”

Wishing You a Filthy New Year?

 In other words, not a very nice wish for the new year. But that is exactly what Planned Parenthood is offering our children.

Not too long ago a mother wrote to me: “I am very concerned that, by using an abstinence-only approach to educating our young people, we are doing them an extreme disservice and they will be unprepared for the real world. How do you feel?”

My answer usually ruffles feathers, but it goes something like this: 

The teaching of virtue in today’s society is rare but as we know, when purity is the cornerstone of a young person’s practices with himself or with others, there is no need to sink to the level of teaching sex in the classroom. 

The problem is many parents sell their kids short, believing that a young person cannot practice self control, and thus on their behalf such parents fall into the Planned Parenthood trap. Shame on those parents who do this.

Planned Parenthood is, without a doubt, the single most threatening force in the nation today when it comes to family stability, sexual health, and self respect among young people. Take, for example, the Hawaiian Pono Choices curriculum, “a culturally responsive teen pregnancy and STI (sexually transmitted infection) program.”

This program is one of many Planned Parenthood-inspired school programs, yet it does anything but inspire healthy attitudes toward the sexual identity of the human being. Indeed, among the consultants working on the program with Planned Parenthood and the University of Hawaii is Making Proud Choices. According to the Wednesday STOPP Report, “Making Proud Choices is a curriculum that targets African American youth, ages 11 to 13, and pays them to participate in the program. Making Proud Choices teaches children that sex is ‘fun and pleasurable when a condom is used and [students] are taught how to incorporate this belief into role-play scenarios.’”

NEW PLANNED PARENTHOOD NUMBERS SHOW A BUSINESS WITH PROBLEMS

Washington, DC----Responding to Planned Parenthood Federation of America's release of its facility and service numbers for 2012,* Rita Diller, national director of American Life League's STOPP International project, said that the new numbers "once again show a business in decline." She continued:

PPFA reported a substantial drop in its clinic numbers between December 2012 and December 2013. At the end of 2012, it had 750 centers, while it reports "more than 700" at the end of 2013. Its affiliate numbers are down as well, dropping from 73 to 69 over the last year. Affiliates are entities that operate Planned Parenthood centers within a set geographical area.

Planned Parenthood reported a 6.7 percent decrease worldwide in customers for its "sexual and reproductive healthcare and education." In the U.S., it reported seeing 10,000 fewer unduplicated customers than in 2011.

One of the most glaring numbers was the steep decline in prenatal services----a 31.97 percent decline from the prior year.

In addition, Planned Parenthood's highly touted cancer screening services dropped 14.22 percent from the 2011 numbers.

Even its abortion business showed a slight decline, reaching the lowest level in four years. PPFA reports that it committed 327,166 abortions for 2012----a 2.0 percent decrease from the year before.

Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League and founder of STOPP International, said, "The one notable rise was in its contraception business, where it reports 3.7 million services as opposed to 3.4 million in 2011----an increase of 8.7 percent."

"However, our meta-analysis on Planned Parenthood released in 2013 indicated that Planned Parenthood may be inflating its numbers in contraceptive clients served," added Sedlak. "In addition, this service number includes an increase in sales of so-called Emergency Contraceptive kits whose effectiveness has come into question in the last few weeks."

1. Immediately upon fertilization, cellular development begins. Before implantation the sex of the new life can be determined.
2. At implantation, the new life is composed of hundreds of cells and has developed a protective hormone to prevent the mother's body from rejecting it as a foreign tissue.
3. At 17 days, the new life has developed its own blood cells; the placenta is a part of the new life and not of the mother.
4. At 18 days, occasional pulsations of a muscle - this will be the heart.
5. At 19 days, the eyes start to develop.
6. At 20 days, the foundation of the entire nervous system has been laid down.
7. At 24 days, the heart has regular beats or pulsations.
8. At 28 days, 40 pairs of muscles are developed along the trunk of the new life; arms and legs forming.
9. At 30 days, regular blood flow within the vascular system; the ears and nasal development have begun.

           STOPP Research Shows Multiple Ties Between

 Portland School Officials and Planned Parenthood

In the last edition of the Wednesday STOPP Report, we broke the latest in the story of Oregon teacher, Bill Diss, who was bullied by Planned Parenthood and the Portland schools to the point of being escorted out of the school by police. The hearing last week, in which the school was to determine this exemplary, award-winning teacher’s “fitness to teach,” precipitated STOPP’s research into connections between Portland school officials, Planned Parenthood, and its political cohorts.

As we researched, we found multiple connections that go a long way in explaining why the nation’s largest abortion chain wields so much power in Portland schools that it could actually facilitate the dismissal and a “perp walk” of a teacher who exercised his First Amendment rights in speaking out about the abortion giant. Here is the summary of what we found:

(1) Board member Ruth Adkins aligned herself politically with Planned Parenthood in opposition to two Oregon ballot measures that the schools tied to school funding.

(2) Board member Pam Knowles is an attorney in the firm that sued the American Coalition of Life Activists, Dr. Monica Miller, and others—challenging the defendants’ First Amendment rights—on behalf of Planned Parenthood and Oregon abortionists. Knowles was the mentor of the lead lawyer for Planned Parenthood in the case. Knowles’ protégé, Carol Bernick, was so dedicated to stripping the defendants’ constitutional right to speak out against Planned Parenthood that she pursued the case on a pro bono basis. Bernick is reported to have said that, during two decades of practicing law, this is the case of which she is most proud. “It had the effect of curbing the behavior that we believed was a threat, and the jury agreed that it was a threat. It made you proud to be a lawyer.”

(3) Board member Matt Morton is a colleague of Nichole Maher in the Multicultural Affairs department at Reed College. Maher serves on the boards of Portland Schools Foundation and Planned Parenthood.

Got birth control?

Bedsider, a project operated by the pro-abortion National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, rolled out a social media campaign intended to extoll the wonders of birth control. Dubbed “Shout Out For Birth Control Day” and using the hashtag #ThxBirthControl, the D.C.-based nonprofit celebrates birth control as the miracle drug that gives women everything they want, because apparently she shouldn’t have to concern herself with the normal and natural consequence of sex—a baby.

Cartoons on the website include the following phrases intended to entice young people: “9 months from now the only thing I’m expecting is to be more awesome.” “Doing the 9 to 5 thing for my career before I do the 24-7 thing for a baby.” “All my playdates are adults only.”

An education, a career, a visit to a far-off destination—who knew these goals to be impossible unless she’s pumping her body with artificial hormones?  Wait. There’s more to be thankful for:

Challenging Children to Chastity

The title of this article is also the name of an extremely valuable online booklet by the late Father Henry V. Sattler, CSsR (1917-1999), yet it is also an assignment for today’s parents.

Our children and grandchildren are bombarded daily with messages that contradict common sense and put their very lives in jeopardy. It is the rare school teacher, public or private, who sifts through the sexually provocative material being presented as education and chooses only that which does not offend the sensitivities of the young in her charge.

Call it Human Trafficking or Human Junking—The Result Is the Same

The United Nations’ latest report on human trafficking should drive fear into our hearts and souls. But what exactly is this crime?

According to the United Nations, the problem centers on the sexual exploitation of women and girls. The report was scoured in an effort to discover whether or not the United Nations was also tracking the trafficking in human organs and fetal tissue, but sadly neither of those topics is addressed. It has been four years since those topics were analyzed, and yet the problem continues. In fact, it is growing.

The phenomenon of “transplant tourism,” where people travel to the developing world to “purchase” kidneys and livers, has been discussed for a number of years, and some countries (such as Kuwait and Pakistan) have very loose legal standards regarding this practice. The practice of trafficking humans specifically for organ harvesting is still relatively new to law enforcement, requiring heightened awareness in the international legal community. “According to the World Health Organisation, as many as 7,000 kidneys are illegally obtained by traffickers each year around the world.” The most recent case occurred in Great Britain and involved a young girl who was brought in from Somalia with the intention of removing her organs and selling them to those who were desperate for a transplant.

Let's Not Tolerate the Intolerable!

Christ is truly present – body, blood, soul, and divinity – in the Holy Eucharist. We must venerate His presence, honor Him for all He has done for us, and remain reverent at all times. Yet, too many do not take His presence seriously. Some even mock Him. Now is the time for each of us – both clergy and lay people – to stop this disgrace and return the respect to Our Lord that He deserves.

More than 10 years ago, American Life League began focusing attention on the abuses brought toward the body and blood of Christ in the sacrament of Holy Communion – a sacrament defined by the Church as the source and summit of Christian life.

It has been our mission, so to speak, to bring to the attention of the Catholic bishops in America the many pro-abortion public figures who flaunt their Catholic identity as part of their defense of abortion and similar atrocities. Whether it is former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, MSNBC commentator Chris Matthews, or Vice President Joe Biden, the scandal is no less severe. There is no Catholic who should support the evil action of abortion and then have the audacity to receive the body of Christ in Holy Communion.

But the sad fact is that Catholic bishops, for the most part, do not see this as a major concern. And so the travesty continues. We have come to perceive this resistance toward protecting the body and blood of Christ from sacrilege as part of a much larger phenomenon within the Church. It is clear that many priests and bishops prefer to test the winds of public opinion before deciding whether or not to obey canon law or even protect the sacrifice of Mass itself from disrespect.
