Oprah Tells Her Mother Thank You for Choosing Life, Then Celebrates Women Who Have Abortions

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

One of the last things Oprah Winfrey did before her mother died this fall was to thank her for choosing life. The celebrity’s mother, Vernita Lee, 83, died on Thanksgiving Day.

Winfrey is not pro-life. She promotes pro-abortion campaigns and politicians through her media empire. But she did see the value of her mother’s difficult decision to choose life for her as a young teenager.

In a new interview with People Magazine, Winfrey described her last moments with her mother and her struggles to communicate what she was really feeling.

A few days before Lee died, Winfrey said she canceled all her meetings and traveled to Milwaukee to be with her.
“I waited for a way to say what I wanted to say,” she said. “I couldn’t find it that day. The next morning I woke up, and I was actually praying for, ‘What is a way I can have this conversation about the end? How do I close it?’ I just thought, ‘What is the truth for me? What is it that I need to say?’”
Eventually, Winfrey did figure out what she wanted to say: Thank you. According to the report:
She recalls, “I played another one of her favorite artists, Joshua Nelson, singing ‘How I Got Over.’ I could see that it opened her a little bit, because my mother’s been a very closed down person. I could see that the music gave me an opening to say what I needed to say.”
“What I said was, ‘Thank you. Thank you, because I know it’s been hard for you. It was hard for you as a young girl having a baby, in Mississippi. No education. No training. No skills. Seventeen, you get pregnant with this baby. Lots of people would have told you to give that baby away. Lots of people would’ve told you to abort that baby. You didn’t do that. I know that was hard. I want you to know that no matter what, I know that you always did the best you knew how to do. And look how it turned out.’”
Lee gave birth to Oprah when she was 18 and living in Mississippi, according to the report. She struggled with poverty throughout her life, working as a maid and trying to raise three children. She made an adoption plan for her fourth child, Patricia, a half-sibling that Oprah did not even know she had until adulthood.

Later, Lee told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she never told Oprah about her half sister because she was ashamed of the adoption. Lee said she was not able to take care of Patricia herself.
“I thought it was a terrible thing for me to do,” Lee said.
But as Winfrey pointed out in her final good-bye to her mother, it was not terrible at all. Lee chose life for her and her half-sister. Those were difficult decisions, but they were courageous ones because Lee gave her daughters a chance at life. She did not take what some would consider the easy way out and have an abortion. That truly would have been a “terrible thing,” but Lee chose the better, more difficult path because she knew her daughters’ lives were valuable.

Sadly, Winfrey has not promoted this type of courage lately. Instead, her magazine recently featured the “Shout Your Abortion” campaign, a pro-abortion movement where women brag about how wonderful it was to abort their unborn babies. Winfrey also campaigned for pro-abortion candidates this fall. In doing so, she seemed to forget how her mother was one of those women in difficult circumstances and she one of those unborn babies who could have been aborted.

United Methodist Church Proposes New Position Statement Saying “We Support Abortion”

By Rev. Paul Stallworth
Life News

Due to action of The United Methodist Church’s 2012 General Conference and to negotiation of church leaders, the General Board of Church and Society held listening sessions on the Social Principles throughout the church. From them, Church and Society learned that the Social Principles need to become “more theologically grounded, more globally relevant, and more succinct” (according to a 04/12/18 press release).

Then the 2016 General Conference voted to continue Church and Society’s work in revising the Social Principles. On April 11, 2018, “The United Methodist Social Principles”/“Working Draft 1” was released. Church and Society aims to propose a complete revision of the Social Principles to the 2020 General Conference.

The Social Principle on Abortion: A Brief History

Since the birth of The United Methodist Church in 1968, the Social Principles’ paragraph on abortion has been contested. The 1972 paragraph stated: “We support the removal of abortion from the criminal code, placing it instead under laws relating to other procedures of standard medical practice. A decision concerning abortion should be made only after thorough and thoughtful consideration by the parties involved, with medical and pastoral counsel.”

Following the United States Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which knocked down state laws against abortion, United Methodism reflected Roe; its 1976 abortion paragraph included this sentence: “We support the legal option of abortion under proper medical procedures.”

Since 1976, many General Conferences have considered and debated petitions that would alter the church’s teaching on abortion. Some passed. Gradually, the paragraph became more skeptical, critical, and prohibitive of abortion. That is, the Social Principle became more protective of the unborn child and mother.

In 2018, while The United Methodist Church’s Social Principle on abortion (Paragraph 161K in the 2016 Book of Discipline) “support[s] the legal option of abortion,” it also contains many phrases and statements that are protective of the unborn and mother. That Social Principle has now been rewritten—thoroughly.

The Revised Title

The revision of this Social Principle is boldly announced in its title change: from “Abortion” to “Reproductive Health.” Why? “Abortion,” as a title, might be considered too controversial, harsh, specific. In contrast, “Reproductive Health” might be understood as more medical-clinical, gentle, and general.  Against this retitling, four objections can be raised.

University of Ottawa Student Union Votes to Ban Pro-Life Clubs, Affirm Abortion Support

Life Site News

A pro-life student group at the University of Ottawa has been censored and stripped of club status because their mandate promotes human rights for all human beings. In a follow-up recent decision, the Student Union on November 5th has now voted to have the Student Union be a "pro-choice" entity only supporting groups that support legalized abortion.

The section reads that Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) will “affirms a person’s right to choose. No SFUO resources, space, recognition, or funding will be allocated to enhance groups/individuals with the primary/sole purpose of pro-life activities.”

A SFUO vice-president confirmed the results of the two motions, conducted by secret ballot.

The group, University of Ottawa Students for Life (SFL), has been a registered campus club for ten years, fostering respectful dialogue and hosting events to discuss human rights issues, especially abortion. SFL members are committed to upholding the respect and dignity of every human being, before as well as after birth.

On Thursday, September 28, 2017, SFL was ordered to shut down a tabling event by Leila Moumouni-Tchouassi, VP Equity of the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO). Ms. Moumouni-Tchouassi failed to cite or produce any university policy which SFL had violated. She also declared that University of Ottawa Protection Services would be called if the pro-life students did not leave the area. The students understood that they had university approval for the time and location of this tabling event.

Two weeks later, on Friday, October 13, SFL received an email signed by Linda Lacombe indicating that they were approved as a campus club for the 2017-2018 academic year. One week later, on Friday, October 20, SFL received an unsigned email from the SFUO, indicating that their club status had been revoked.

The UOSFL stated: “This decision was made due to the ways in which your mandate is in contention with the SFUO’s principles.”

Ruth Shaw, NCLN Executive Director, commented: “It is not the role of a student union to take sides in educational engagement. It is only their job to represent all their members and allow for open dialogue between them. Every student must pay dues to the student union- pro-life students are essentially now paying someone to discriminate against them. That is abhorrent."

Peter van Dyken, third-year biochemistry student and SFL President, said: “All we want to do is talk to people about abortion on campus because it is a decision that will greatly affect their lives. With no law on abortion in this country, we want to educate our peers on the violent nature of this procedure. We hope the SFUO will re-commit to upholding student rights on our campus, and we will continue to be vocal on this issue."

Kardashian Sisters Visit Planed Parenthood Abortion Clinic to Push Its Agenda

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

The Kardashians seem to be everywhere these days.

Their latest stop on Thursday was a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in West Los Angeles, Marie Clair reports. The celebrity sisters said they plan to promote the abortion chain in an upcoming episode of their show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

The paparazzi took photos as Kim, Khloe and Kourtney visited the abortion facility and shot video footage for their TV show, according to the report.

“The girls felt that since they have such a huge audience, they could really make a difference and shed some light on just how important Planned Parenthood is for those who can’t afford the services they provide elsewhere,” a source told X17 Online.

According to the women’s magazine:

While they were there, they reportedly spoke with leaders about women’s healthcare and the threat of the Trump administration. And the sisters asked what they can do to help them out in the future. (Chances are, putting them on a popular reality show doesn’t hurt.)

The abortion chain has a lot of support from celebrities and rich, old white men, but not from the American public. A January poll by Susan B. Anthony List found that a majority of voters in 2018 Senate battleground states oppose giving tax dollars to Planned Parenthood.
