Roe v. Wade: Through a Daughter’s Eyes

Through my daughter’s eyes, I view Roe as a monumentally unjust historic event which has decimated her generation.

Wade, the abominable Supreme Court ruling which has led to the deaths of more than 60 million preborn babies.

I look at Roe from the viewpoint of a daughter and as a mother of a daughter. At the time that my mother became pregnant with me, she and my father were facing financial ruin. My father had lost his job and, during the course of her pregnancy, my mother would be fired for the “offense” of being pregnant. The pressures my parents faced must have been tremendous.

If Roe had been the law of the land at that time, could I have been a statistic? Could my mother, in desperation, have turned to an abortionist during the depths of her heartache?

Thankfully, back in those days, the law protected me.

As it turned out, I was too young to be aware of the High Court’s cataclysmic decision back in 1973. And yet, perhaps, I saw the effects.

In my elementary school, it seemed the classes were smaller for the children younger than I. When I went to a store in a mall to make a purchase, I felt that I was not being given the respect I deserved, even though I was very young.

The fact is, the reverberations of Roe, like a pebble in a pond, could be felt well beyond the initial point of impact. I felt it at school and in my neighborhood—even if I could not trace its cause.

By the time I reached high school, I faced an abortion-saturated society. Rumors flew through the corridors of our school of students who had had one. Growing up during those times meant realizing that a terrible atrocity had been legalized and was taking place, perhaps thousands of times a year, in my hometown.

Thankfully, by the time I was blessed with my beautiful daughter, I had been volunteering in the pro-life movement for quite some time. So I knew the importance of raising her with a pro-life perspective.

When she was about six years old, she looked with wonder at a display of soft-touch fetal models at a pro-life educational display at a church festival. She lovingly held the realistic depictions of preborn babies at various stages of development. As we left the display, she insisted on running back a second time so she could catch another glimpse.

New Poll Shows Millennials Will Change Position on Roe When Given the Facts

Pro-choice advocates consistently forward the narrative that the majority of the American public does not want to overturn Roe v. Wade. And to some degree, surveys and polls agree. For example, a 2018 poll reported in Vox found that 67-percent of Americans would not like to see Roe overturned, and only 29-percent would.

However, a survey released Monday shows that support for Roe v. Wade is based largely on ignorance. When educated about the realities of abortion, opposition to the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion rises sharply.

The survey conducted by Students for Life of America’s Institute for Pro-Life Advancement found that 40-percent of millennials (those in their 20s and 30s) totally support Roe, and only 12-percent totally oppose. Many (48-percent) are either unsure or neutral about the issue.

However, after being informed that Roe allows for abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, opposition to Roe jumped to 51-percent and support fell to 35-percent. Additionally, when millennials were told that abortion could be used as a form of contraception, or when a mother doesn’t like the sex of the baby, opposition rose to 54-percent.

This is a crucial finding, showing how key education is to overturning the abhorrent court decision that has led to the slaughter of more than 60-million babies. As I have engaged in discussions about abortion with friends and colleagues, I am always amazed at how few know the truth. For example, most believe it’s illegal to abort babies in the third trimester, but it’s not

As former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson can attest, “Late-term abortions are legal in the U.S. and do take place through the entire third trimester, including through the ninth month of pregnancy. . . (A) late-term abortion can be provided for any reason, as long as the abortionist checks a box on her chart stating it was affecting her ‘life or health.’ No documentation of proof is required.”

Similarly, I’ve found very few Americans know what’s involved in an actual abortion. Few know, for example, that a second trimester abortion involves dismembering a baby in the womb and removing it piece by piece. Few realize that this grisly procedure is done at all, let alone that’s it’s done without any anesthesia. We treat our dogs better in this country.

A few years ago, I posted live animation of the most popular abortionprocedures to my website. Even though they’re just animated videos, they’re powerful. Every citizen of this country should watch these. If they did, I’m sure opposition to overturning Roe would evaporate.

This week, hundreds of thousands of pro-life advocates will gather in D.C. for the March for Life. And as we do, or simply support the cause by posting to social media and watching the live coverage, we need to remember that education and advocacy matter. As more and more Americans hear the truth, they adopt pro-life convictions and understand Roe as a license to murder.

We also need to be smart about how we discuss the issue. I agree wholeheartedly with Kristan Hawkins, president of Student for Life of America, who said: 
“On the issue of abortion, labels like pro-life, pro-choice, access, health, or women’s rights often camouflage the true realities of the policies that today crisscross the country. Especially as we talk with millennials, who are often outside the political structure of Washington D.C., the anti-abortion movement must be clear on what we are advancing and its impact on mothers, the preborn and taxpayers.”

Trump Attorney General Nominee Bill Barr: Roe v. Wade is Not “Constitutional,” Will Be Overturned

Planned Parenthood is flipping out over President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Bill Barr.

A conservative lawyer who also served under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, Barr once stated that he believes the infamous abortion case Roe v. Wade will be overturned.
“I think that Roe v. Wade will ultimately be overturned,” Barr told CNN in 1992. “I think it’ll fall of its own weight. It does not have any constitutional underpinnings.”
The abortion giant Planned Parenthood attacked the statement on Twitter this week, ahead of Barr’s confirmation hearing in the U.S. Senate.
“Barr wants to upend more than 45 years of Supreme Court precedent on abortion … so just how can we trust him to protect our rights? #StopBarr,” Planned Parenthood tweeted.

Planned Parenthood Generation Action, its arm targeting young adults, also went after Barr this week, claiming “we can’t trust” him because he opposes Roe. The 1973 case allowed abortion on demand and led to about 60 million unborn babies’ abortion deaths.

Barr has made several similar statements about abortion in the past. During his Senate confirmation hearing in 1991, he said he did not agree with the Supreme Court on Roe, Fox News reports. Barr said Roe was wrongly decided, and abortion laws should be left up to the states, the LA Times reported at the time. Barr also said he does not think the right to privacy “extends to abortion.”

He told CNN in 1992 that he believed the high court also was wrong in its ruling in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, a decision that allowed abortion restrictions after viability but also upheld Roe.
“I think it’s significant that the three so-called moderate justices who were responsible for keeping [Roe] intact … did not so much defend the earlier opinion Roe v. Wade on the merits, on its constitutionality, but on the doctrine of stare decisis and that is the reluctance to overturn prior precedent,” Barr said. “I think they were wrong to do it, yes. I think they should have stuck with the Constitution.”

Pro-Life Speaker Ben Shapiro Will Headline 2019 March for Life

Pro-life conservative speaker Ben Shapiro will be headlining the 2019 March for Life.

Shapiro is a conservative media personality, and the editor-in-chief of Daily Wire, a news site that garners more than 140 million page views monthly. He also hosts a podcast called “The Ben Shapiro Show,” which is one of the top conservative podcasts in the nation.

While he speaks out on a multitude of political issues, Shapiro is unequivocally pro-life. He has consistently countered pro-abortion advocates during debates, backing up his arguments with data and research, while laying out the ethics and morality of the issue.

Furthermore, with his large viewer and readership, Shapiro’s presence at the March for Life brings additional political clout to the event. As a prominent speaker, people from all over the political spectrum will pay attention to his appearance at this year’s march.

The 46th annual March for Life’s theme is “Unique from Day One,” which emphasizes that being pro-life is also being pro-science. Shapiro is more than qualified to speak at the event, as he has frequently and effectively dismantled the pro-abortion argument with scientific evidence.

In October, Shapiro appeared on Fox News and laid out a defense for life quite clearly:
“Take a good look at that baby. That is a human being with zero rights according to the mainstream of the Democratic party,” Shapiro said.
He displayed images of a 12-week unborn baby and then an unborn baby at eight weeks.
“You can see this baby with his hands near his chest,” he said of the 12-week image. “This is not a cluster of cells. His liver and spleen are producing red blood cells. This is an unborn human being. But not a single federally-elected Democrat would vote for an abortion ban that would protect this baby’s life.
“Life does not begin at 14 weeks,” Shapiro continued. “Life doesn’t begin at eight weeks either. It begins at fertilization, when a new human life is born – a new human being with its own DNA. Human life is a continuous process of growth from the moment of fertilization onward.”
When the March for Life theme was unveiled, President Jeanne Mancini said: 
“Science is behind the pro-life movement. We see that medical and technological advancements always affirm the pro-life movement, for example, DNA is present at fertilization and no fingerprint on earth, past, present, or future, is the same. We know, too, a baby’s heart beats at just six weeks and we can distinctly observe it ourselves with ultrasound technology…As science progresses, we see clearly that every life is unique from day one in the womb.”
The March for Life will take place on Jan. 18, 2019, near the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. Shapiro will host his podcast live from the rally, and later will be joined by other pro-life speakers at Washington DC’s National Mall.

President Trump Will Name Pro-Life Bill Barr Attorney General, He Strongly Opposes Roe v. Wade

President Donald Trump nominated conservative lawyer William Barr to the position of attorney general Friday.

Trump praised him as “one of the most respected jurists in the country,” and said Barr was his “first choice from Day One,” according to the Daily Beast. Barr, who also served under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, would succeed former AG Jeff Sessions.

His confirmation seems likely in the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate, though Democrats almost certainly will attack Barr’s opposition to Roe v. Wade.

Fox News reports Barr said he did not agree with the infamous abortion case during his Senate confirmation hearing in 1991.

He said he thought Roe was wrongly decided, and abortion laws should be left up to the states, the LA Times reported at the time. Barr also said he does not think the right to privacy “extends to abortion.”

The Daily Beast described Barr as “a conservative Republican known for a Reagan-esque tone and worldview.”

Pro-life conservative leader Gary Bauer agreed. The two have known each other since Barr worked for Reagan.
“He’s known for having a very dry sense of humor and unless you realize that, you might do a double take until you realize he’s joking with you,” Bauer said. “He’s a really good, nice guy the kind of guy that most people would enjoy spending time around.”
Pro-life U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina, also expressed hope about Barr.
“I think he’d be an outstanding choice and is highly capable and highly respected, and should be easily confirmable,” Graham said. “However, I know the president has many good choices and I will do everything I can to support his nominee if I’m chairman of the Judiciary Committee. And the sooner we can start the process, the better.”
ABA Journal reports Barr grew up in New York City and worked for the CIA while attending law school at night. Barr worked for Verizon after he left the Bush administration. He currently works at the international law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He has a wife and three daughters, and is an avid musician who plays the bagpipes.

Here’s How We Can End Legal Abortion in Our Lifetime!

Ending legal abortion in our lifetime is not just a fanciful dream. It could indeed become a reality–sooner than we think. But there is much work to do to realize the vision. Here is a roadmap for reversing Roe v. Wade, the tragic U.S. Supreme Court decision from 1973 which legalized abortion in all fifty states:
1. Empower women to make life-affirming decisions. We know from research that as many as 80 percent of women who have had abortions would have chosen life for their babies–had just one person offered support. Just one person! You can be that one person that helps to persuade a pregnant woman that she can give birth, without sacrificing all of her personal goals in the process.
2. Support pregnancy resource centers. Pregnancy resource centers can become the post-Roe safety net. They offer comprehensive counseling and assistance to pregnant women facing challenging circumstances. Some offer everything from diapers to day care referrals, from pacifiers to parenting classes.
3. Promote ultrasounds. Post ultrasound videos on your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Email ultrasound photos to your friends and relatives. In order to save a baby, some people need to see the baby. Ultrasound offers a window to the womb which has been proven to save lives.
4. Support strict constructionists for court appointments. A strict constructionist judge reads the Constitution as written and does not make up laws from the bench. The words “right to an abortion” do not appear anywhere in the Constitution. We need judges at every level of the judiciary who recognize that fact.

Even some abortion advocates believe Roe v. Wade is destined to fall because the decision is just so poorly conceived. Working together, we can ensure that the Roe regime ends sooner rather than later.

Back to School and the Sacredness of Life

In cities and towns across the U.S., students are returning to school–or just about to. But in all the back to school reports on the local news, no mention will be made of all the students who are missing because of abortion.

It is estimated that as many as one in five pregnancies in the U.S. ends in abortion. Nearly one million American children are lost to abortion each year. It is a tragedy of epic proportions–yet all too often ignored by the mainstream media.

But back to school time can also be a time of tremendous hope. Many faith-based schools organize bus trips to the annual March for Life…host pro-life clubs on campus…and encourage students to spiritually adopt preborn babies as they pray for the little ones each day.

Those who are parents and grandparents can also use this time to instill in our offspring a great respect for the dignity and incalculable value of human life. We can make sure middle schoolers know the stages of life in the womb, and that high schoolers know the location of the nearest pro-life pregnancy resource center.

We can also use this time to educate ourselves about pro-life issues, turning to trusted pro-life organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation and National Right to Life, to find out the latest developments on the pro-life front. Education is power, and with our newfound knowledge we may just save a life–or change a mind.

In addition, we can recommit ourselves to working for an overturn of the tragic U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. Someday, the issue of abortion will return to the states, and we must be prepared to pass meaningful pro-life laws. Let us look forward to the day when Roe is just an unpleasant asterisk in student history books, and when all children have a real chance at life.

Franklin Graham Calls for Prayer for VP Pence After Latest Statements on Unborn Babies

America is once again on track to stand up for the lives of unborn children. Many Christians admitted that they came to the polls in 2016 to specifically vote for Trump based on his pro-life views.

Now, with an open seat on the Supreme Court in the works, many people are excited about the possibility of overturning abortion laws in America. This past week, President Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be the next SCOTUS justice. He is an extremely pro-life choice and would be a deciding vote for the change.

Franklin Graham is now asking his supporters, and Christians everywhere, to pray for the cause. Specifically, Graham is asking us to pray for Vice President Mike Pence as he defends standing up against abortion.

"Will you join me in praying for God’s protection, wisdom, and blessing for @VP @Mike_Pence, @SecondLady Karen, and their family? I know it is an encouragement for them to know we are standing with them," wrote Graham on Twitter.

Pence recently spoke out about his proud stance against abortion.

"'I’m pro-life—I don’t apologize for it.' That’s what @VP told @DanaBashCNN. I’m grateful he stands for life & for biblical principles—& I’m thankful for the great job he’s doing for our country. He doesn’t back down & he doesn’t hedge," wrote Franklin.

"I, too, hope Roe v. Wade can be overturned for the sake of millions of children's lives and for the future of our nation," said Graham.

Three Major Films With Pro-Life Themes Set to Release in Coming Months

One’s already controversial and it isn’t even out yet. Few seemed to have noticed the other two. Over the past five years, three teams of filmmakers have been working to tell true stories that reveal the humanity of lives in the womb. All three are on track to release in the next seven months.

Unplanned is based on the memoir of former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson. Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer is a crime drama set in urban Philadelphia. Linked closely to pro-life leaders, these films appear to be a step up from past efforts Bella, Voiceless and October Baby.

Those are the two the mainstream, and pro-choice, media hasn’t yet noticed. The media have noticed Nick Loeb’s Roe v. Wade. And they don’t like it.

Unplanned Journey of Planned Parenthood Whistleblower

In October 2009, one Texas woman caused a national uproar when she quit her job. Abby Johnson had worked at the local Planned Parenthood near College Station, Texas, for eight years. She started as a volunteer and worked up to clinic director.

As told in her memoir Unplanned, the women’s rights advocate found the work “wonderfully rich and satisfying” at first. Johnson took pride in how their team efficiently distributed forms of contraception to avoid more costly clinical abortions. For years, she never saw an abortion procedure firsthand. Then a visiting doctor asked Johnson to assist him in the exam room.

A remarkable series of events followed, including a clandestine meeting with pregnancy help leaders next door, a shocking local TV interview and a legal gag order from Planned Parenthood. The abortion rights group lost their statewide spokesperson, while the pro-life movement gained a new perspective.

She made public in 2014 that Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, writers of the $60 million independent blockbuster God’s Not Dead, had inked a deal to produce her story as a major motion picture. Unplanned is slated to release February 22, 2019.

Details have been scarce, though the producers of this spring’s surprise hit I Can Only Imagine are reportedly involved. 

‘Superman’ Brings Serial Killer Gosnell to Justice

In early 2010, disturbing reports of an abortion center in west Philadelphia became too numerous for authorities to ignore.

When the FBI and Philadelphia investigators raided the offices of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, what they found shocked them. Unsanitary exam rooms reeked of blood. Baby body parts were kept in jars.

Gosnell was convicted of three murders and more than 200 counts of violating state abortion laws. He is serving three life sentences in a state prison. After being partially told in the documentary 3801 Lancaster: American Tragedy, a scripted version of the story will finally hit theaters this fall.

The crime drama Gosnell has faced more barriers to release than perhaps any recent film. In 2014 Kickstarter snubbed producers from using its crowdfunding platform. They raised over $2 million on Indiegogo. Last year, the Philadelphia judge on the case feared he was portrayed in an unflattering light. He blocked the movie from distribution, in a lawsuit only recently resolved.

Filmmakers persisted and have now secured an October 12, 2018 release for their film. Directed by veteran actor Nick Searcy (The Fugitive, Cast Away), Gosnell stars Dean Cain as the lead detective who stumbles onto the case. Cain portrayed “Superman” on the hit 1990’s TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The crime drama also features Sarah Jane Morris (Coyote Ugly) as a district attorney for the state and Earl Billings (Con Air) as Kermit Gosnell.

Roe v. Wade

A third movie with a recent rising profile comes from producer Nick Loeb, who only recently “converted” to being pro-life. It will recount events leading up the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized abortion nationwide.
“We take a factual look at the case and show both sides of the arguments,” he tells The Stream. The movie’s website describes it as “the real untold story of how people lied; how the media lied; and how the courts were manipulated to pass a law that has since killed over 60 million Americans.” Speaking to Vanity Fair, he called his movie “a social war movie where we take both sides of the argument and hopefully let the audience decide.”
Roe v. Wade will be the first script for Nick Loeb and his production partner Cathy Allyn. For two years, they researched the case using 40 sources including court transcripts and several books. Loeb himself co-stars as prominent abortion provider Dr. Bernard Nathanson, who became pro-life. His 1996 book The Hand of God is a primary source of scenes and quotes.

After a crowdfunding campaign that began in January, the film was rushed into production this summer. Some people may feel there is a pro-life bias, he says, “But we took a black-and-white view of this and laid it all out there.” The film reportedly has a $6.5 million production budget.

Despite Concerns…

A report last week claimed several cast and crew members quit Roe v. Wade, which Loeb disputes in part. “None of our key people on the crew quit,” he says. “It’s a crew of 125 people, a cast of 74 and a thousand extras. We’ve both worked on several films, and it’s normal for people to quit.”

His partner Cathy Allyn states they have to abide by high standards. “We’re a union show,” she says, noting their SAG-AFTRA agreements in place. “So claiming that we’re doing anything substandard is preposterous.”

Despite compelling source material, some have raised concerns about the script. In January, pro-life leader Robert George shared an exchange with Loeb. “I had some objections to certain characterizations of facts presented in a pitch video for the movie that Mr. Loeb shared with me,” George wrote online. “I will endorse [the film] if, but only if, it is strictly historically accurate. I do not believe in taking liberties with the truth, even in the very best of causes.”

Roe v. Wade Subverted the Fourteenth Amendment to Impose Abortion on Demand

“No state shall deprive” became “Every state shall deprive.” That’s how we got abortion on demand in America.

In 1868, in the wake of the Civil War, the Fourteenth Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution. It affirms (in part): “No State shall … deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

More than a century later, this amendment played the feature role in the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, which asserted a constitutional right to abortion and erased laws protecting unborn children nationwide.

One question at issue in Roe was this: Does the meaning of “person” in the Fourteenth Amendment encompass all members of the human species? Does it therefore encompass unborn children? If so, the Constitution guarantees them protection under the law.
Indeed, “If this suggestion of personhood is established,” Roe acknowledged, “the [case for a constitutional right to abortion], of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the [Fourteenth] Amendment.”
Roe claimed, however, that the unborn don’t qualify as constitutional persons. Why not? The Court’s reasoning was remarkably flimsy. It argued that most other references to persons in the Constitution (such as a provision about persons eligible to serve in Congress) have no prenatal application—so “person” must not be meant to include the unborn.

But that obviously doesn’t follow. Most provisions in the Constitution don’t apply to born children, either, and clearly children were understood to be persons.
The Court ignored the fact that dictionaries of the day defined “person” and “human being” interchangeably. It ignored the intentions of the Fourteenth Amendment’s framers, like main author John Bingham, who said the amendment protects “any human being” and is “universal.” 
And the Roe Court tried to dispute, unsuccessfully, the fact that both statutory laws and common-law history recognized unborn children as human beings deserving of protection. Most states at the time of the amendment literally classified abortion as an “offense against the person.”

Admittedly, not all legal scholars and judges who aim to interpret the law as it is (regardless of their own ideas about what the law should be) have thought that unborn children are persons within the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment. But the Roe Court didn’t just deny that the Constitution requires protection for the unborn. It claimed that the Constitution actually forbids protection for the unborn.

And where in the Constitution, according to the Court, is this prohibition found? The Fourteenth Amendment.

The Court said that the amendment’s Due Process Clause includes an implicit “right of privacy” that encompasses a right to abortion. Even assuming a broad realm of privacy, though, many “personal” matters (uncontroversially) are not protected by it. So why is abortion protected? Well, Roe explained, a prohibition on abortion can be a “detriment” to a woman. But the same can be said of countless acts that are not exempt from the possibility of legal restriction.

And this is all the justification Roe could offer. Thus the Court had no valid reason to think there’s a right to abortion. Worse, the purported right is refuted by the very people who adopted the Fourteenth Amendment.
