Good News for Mothers and Babies as Abortions Hit Record Low

from Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

HARRISBURG, Pa. –The annual total of abortions in Pennsylvania have reached a record low, according to figures released by the PA Department of Health.

The yearly report shows 30,011 abortions occurred in the Commonwealth in 2017—down from the 30,881 which took place in 2016, a decrease of nearly three percent. Nearly 84 percent of the abortions occurred in five counties: Allegheny (6,140), Dauphin (1,152), Delaware (1,016), Northampton (2,772), and Philadelphia (13, 999).

“The fact that abortions are now at a record low is good news for mothers and babies in Pennsylvania,” said Maria V. Gallagher, Legislative Director for the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, an affiliate of National Right to Life. “While every abortion is a tragedy, this historic low number is an important milestone,”Gallagher added.

The decline in abortions can be attributed to a number of factors. “Technology has created a window to the womb, thanks to advancements in Ultrasound. Women are much more likely to choose life for their babies, if they view an Ultrasound in a supportive environment,” Gallagher said.

“In addition, abortion totals in Pennsylvania would be much higher were it not for the caring pregnancy resource centers administered by Real Alternatives and other groups. These life-affirming organizations provide everything from diapers to day care referrals, along with comprehensive counseling to pregnant women,” Gallagher added.

Still, one troubling trend is the disproportionate number of abortions performed on African-American women and the rise in abortions among Latina women. A total of 12,865 African-American babies died from abortion in 2017, while 3,038 Hispanic babies were aborted the same year.

“We grieve every abortion, because it is the taking of an innocent, unrepeatable human life. Yet, Pennsylvanians can take great pride in the decline in abortions, which has been aided by the loving alternatives to abortion that exist in the Commonwealth,” Gallagher added.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation is a grassroots right-to-life organization with members statewide. As the state affiliate of National Right to Life, PPLF is committed to promoting the dignity and value of human life from conception to natural death and to restoring legal protection for preborn children.  For more information, please use this link.

Mass for the Holy Innocents and Other Updates from Bucks County Pro-Life Coalition

Above picture is from one of our yearly Life Chains

from Sandy Slater
Bucks County Pro-Life Coalition

The Mass of the Holy Innocents was beautiful. As usual, St. Cyril Church was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and as usual Monsignor Powell gave a beautiful homily.

It was a biblical speech pertaining to the original Holy Innocents.  Monsignor made several deep points one of which was the wickedness of Herod. Again a person of great power killed--he even killed members of his own family besides his jealousy going after children 2 years of age and younger during the time of Jesus' birth.

Something to think about the number of children killed at that time which would have been about 50 "at the max". Compare that with today's children aborted in the US alone is about 900,000/year which is supposedly down from a high of 1.50 million.

At the "Empty Manger" Caroling in Warminster on December 21st,  there were about 10 to 12 who attended in spite of the rain. We thank all who participated in this annual event.

In 2019, LIFE has to be revived through those who claim to be pro-life by witnessing wherever the unborn's life is being threatened. This would make a good New Year resolution to plan on participating at vigils at PP.

Other resolutions or opportunities for you to think about:

  • Start a pro-life group in your parish.
  • Follow the move of your legislators on pro-life issues and contact, him/her.
  • Come to the Bucks County Pro-Life Meeting to check out a plan that would include your participation in growing the organization. The next meeting will be on Monday, January 28, 2019.
  • Participate in the March for Life which is Friday January 18, 2019.

Does your parish have a bus going to DC? For one, there will be a bus going to DC from St. Isidore if you are interested in attending the March for Life. The information is in the St. Isidore Church Bulletin and on the website. It would be great to hear from you.

In other areas of Bucks County, please contact Mary Cullinan by email at  mcullinan@archphila.org or by phone at 215-587-0500 to find information on additional bus locations.

For those who are not able to attend the March for Life in Washington, DC, please join us in front of the Warminister Planned Parenthood on January 18th to pray and give witness.  We will gather at 12 noon.

May God bless you and have a Blessed, Happy and healthy New Year.

The primary mission of the Bucks County Pro-Life Coalition is to provide financial support to area crisis pregnancy centers and educate the community regarding sanctity of life issues from conception until natural death.  For more information and for up-to-date articles and events, please follow us on Facebook here.

Let’s Make All Families Possible!

from Steven Mosher, President
Population Research Institute

We are all grateful for the Holy Family as the cradle of salvation and the a model for all families. But there are many around the world who have been denied the blessing of children and a family.

As many of you know, I have seen mothers robbed of their unborn babies, and families that will never come to be, because their children were ripped out of their wombs. My fight against China's forced abortion program began four decades ago and continues today.

Just as heartbreaking are the millions of families right here in the US that will never come to be. Far too many men and women "choose" abortion, rather than accept the new life that God has sent them to cherish. That's why we argue for the sanctity and preciousness of human life, everywhere and always.

U.S.-funded population control programs also deny millions of couples in countries like Peru, India and Nigeria the right to have the number of children they would prefer. We have successfully defunded such programs in the past, and we will continue to do so in the future.

We continue building a Culture of Life in many other ways as well:
  • We launched a new website this year to promote the crucial Truths about the sanctity of life, and the sacred role of families in our world, put forth in Humanae Vitae: https://humanaevitaeproject.org/en/
  • We partner with pro-lifers in Nigeria and elsewhere to help establish Family Care Centers, which provide essential health care to expectant mothers.
And watch your mailbox for our latest efforts as the calendar flips to 2019! (We must keep these secret for now, since we don't want to tip off the opposition.)

Our work is only possible because of thousands of people like you.  On this Solemnity of the Holy Family, won't you join me in this fight to protect all families everywhere?

The Population Research Institute is a (501c3) non-profit research organization whose core values hold that people are the world’s greatest resource. PRI’s goals are to educate on this premise, to expose the myth of overpopulation, and to expose human rights abuses committed in population control programs. Our growing, global network of pro-life groups spans over 30 countries. For more information or to make a donation to help them with their work, please use this link.

2018 in Review and What to Do in 2019

by Mickey Kelly
Voices for Life

One thing I really enjoy in the final days of the year is when I take time to look back on the good, bad, and ugly of the year since it began. It helps me figure out what went wrong and where can I improve in 2019. Likewise, pro-lifers should be doing the same thing and go into 2019 with the flame of love and hands of mercy to save the unborn child.

There were many successes, so I will share a few of them with you that happened on the local and even national level.

Local/State News

The Pro-Life Union was under new leadership by Tom Stevens. Tom is a Villanova graduate and has participated in vigils since his college days. the coalition is fortunate to have you as our leader.  Read all about him here: http://catholicphilly.com/2018/01/news/profile/family-man-now-leads-areas-largest-pro-life-organization/

Though we had no closing of abortion facilities there has been more and more people getting involved of all ages, especially college aged students who lost a 1/3 of their peers because of this horrific atrocities. One of those students was honored by the Pro Life Union of Greater Philadelphia as the recent Stand Up for Life Dinner. See article here: http://catholicphilly.com/2018/11/news/profile/young-pro-life-leader-makes-time-for-prayer-witness-at-upenn/

New life saving facility known as Gianna Center opened its doors in Philadelphia. Started in New York and named after St. Gianna Molla, the center offers general gynecological care that conforms to Catholic teaching on sexuality and procreation.  See article here: http://catholicphilly.com/2018/07/news/local-news/new-philadelphia-womens-center-offers-authentic-catholic-health-care/

Dr. Monique Ruberu was featured in an article by 40 Days for Life.

A letter from
Padre Pio to Pope Paul VI
in support of the prophetic
encyclical

Across much of the US and around the world, pro-lifers commemorated the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae.

There was even a conference with Janet Smith as the main headliner. Read more here: http://catholicphilly.com/2018/10/news/local-news/prophetic-voice-of-humane-vitae-studied-at-weekend-events/

On July 25th 2018, pro-lifers watched a special screening on how the papal encyclical echoes well into the 21st Century. Read more here: https://voicesunborn.blogspot.com/2018/07/local-pro-lifers-host-screening.html#.XCeikWzsaM8

Sadly abortions continue to be high in Philadelphia, especially at the Philadelphia's Women Center in the Chinatown district. Please consider praying for an hour or two outside of this facility. 6000 baies a year are being killed. Even the security guard and glum faced professor from Swathmore University need to open eyes to the truth that abortion separates families.

Abortions continue to slide outside of the Planned Parenthood Blackwell Center in Philadelphia. During the last 40 Days Campaign, 13 babies were saved.

National News

Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court, despite the smear attacks from the #MeToo Movement and Democrats helping CNN come up with false news narratives in an attempt to destroy his integrity.

The Supreme Court by a narrow 5-4 margin struck down a California Law forcing pregnancy centers in promoting abortion.

Abortion facilities have been shutting their doors. The tide is turning.
Republicans lost the House of Representatives, yet they gained four additional seats in the Senate.

What Can You Do?

After all of this, you might be asking how you can get involved. Easily put you can start defending life in your community today by being present. Sadly many young people are comfortable with the screen in the digital age of social media. However, it does not kill you to fast from it.

Suggestions:
  • You need to be present in front of the abortion facilities praying for the mothers entering the facility, extending a hand of mercy, and being a peaceful loving present to the abortion workers and volunteers.
  • Volunteer at a local pregnancy center
  • Recruit more people to join the cause
  • Host pro life events in your community, college campus, and church
  • Ask your pastor to hold a holy hour for an end to abortion on a monthly or weekly basis
  • Ask a pro-life and chastity speaker to attend your next rally or event. Culture Project or Generation Life are definitely great speakers to have.
  • Write letters to your representatives persuading them to put forth life saving bills.
  • Use your gifts and talents for the promotion of the culture of life
  • Most importantly don't be passive. It's better for you to get involved and one day abortion will be no more
  • Use social media to spread the word about pro life events and even post pro-life quotes on your status. Yes, you will lose friends, but remember Jesus Christ had lost some followers and was betrayed by one of his own apostles, so you're in good company.
  • Remember local pro-life groups in between your utility and cell phone bills by giving a donation.
  • Give away unused baby items to a women's shelter for expected mothers.
  • Organize a March for Life in your city

Looking ahead

Across many cities and states there are seats for city council, court, gubernational and even mayor. Do your part today to secure a principled consistent life candidate of character. Fight the power in your community today even if you must be imprisoned.

Shut Them All Down!

Martin Fox, President
National Pro-Life Alliance

Pro-lifers all across America have heard of notorious abortionist Kermit Gosnell and his “House of Horrors” abortion clinic.

In spite of what appeared to be the mainstream media’s best efforts to suppress any information, the word got out about the sickening and criminal practices at Gosnell’s Philadelphia abortuary.

And with the internet, no tawdry detail stays hidden for long.

Though the abortion industry would like for you to believe differently, Kermit Gosnell was not just a ‘lone wolf, renegade’ abortionist who won’t adhere to some imaginary strict code of patient care, or an industry standard for safety and cleanliness for abortion clinics.

That’s just not the reality of the abortion world.

When the abortion industry is so obsessed with killing babies, why would they let the health of a mother get in the way?

So, not surprisingly, other “Houses of Horrors” have already come to light such as the Planned Parenthood affiliate in Wilmington, Delaware.

This clinic was so filthy and dangerous that the staff who worked there reported it!

Three former employees of Planned Parenthood testified before the Delaware State Legislature, exposing the organization’s unsafe and unethical procedures.

Two nurses told in full detail of how the rush to push women through would regularly result in abortion tables being left uncleaned of blood and not even wiped between patients.

According to one of the clinic’s former nurses, "It was just unsafe. I couldn't tell you how ridiculously unsafe it was."

She said of the operating tables "It's not washed down; it's not even cleaned off. It has bloody drainage on it."

The veteran abortionists callously refused to even put on surgical gloves and frequently reused dirty instruments during procedures.

Some doctors were even performing “after hours” abortions without any support medical staff.

Abortion duties were assigned to staff with little to no medical expertise, who then rushed through procedures with reckless abandon.

Doctors even neglected to inform at least 200 women of their positive test results for STD’s and infections.

During the investigation, abortionist Timothy Liveright was cited for ten “acts of incompetence and negligence.” The nurses testified that Liveright “left sedated patients in the middle of an abortion procedure for hours in order to handle a mechanical issue with his private airplane.”

(Click here to view a report on their testimony on Youtube or watch the video below.)

The revelation of yet another seedy abortion mill is not an anomaly. In recent years the states of Kansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Alabama, California, Michigan, and Illinois, among others, have had abortion clinics exposed.

The hard fact is that when a doctor doesn’t care for life at its most innocent and vulnerable stage, then he or she will obviously not care how any life is treated.

But the multitude of horrifying abortion procedures used on unborn babies and the women dying from horribly botched abortions reveal the stark truth -- the abortion business is seedy, unsafe, and an unregulated free-for-all.

So we here at your National Pro-Life Alliance have been working on the perfect solution to dirty and deadly abortion mills and we think we’ve found it:

Shut ‘em all down for good.

The National Pro-Life Alliance occupies a unique and important role in the pro-life movement. The focus of many other pro-life organizations is research, publications or counseling. These are all important and worthy activities, but the National Pro-Life Alliance is singular in its focus on passing pro-life legislation that will protect the unborn from the moment of conception onward. For more information on the National Pro-Life Alliance or to make a donation, please use this link.

21 Quotes by Margaret Sanger That Will Make You Sick

John Ritchie
TFP Student Action, Director

Margaret Sanger's words are sick.

But I'm sharing them with you because they can persuade more pro-abortion advocates to abandon their position and oppose Planned Parenthood.

Just listen to quote #3:

"We don’t want the word to go out that we wantto exterminate the Negro population..."
Or quote #5:
“I think the greatest sin in the worldis bringing children into the world..."
Shocking for sure. But each quote is carefully referenced.

Please share these quotes far and wide -- especially with students. Because America will only turn back to God when the abortion agenda is fully rejected in our culture.

TFP Student Action is a project of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property. Founded in 1973, the American TFP was formed to resist, in the realm of ideas, the liberal, socialist and communist trends of the times and proudly affirm the positive values of tradition, family and private property. Planned Parenthood Profits from Abortion

Jay Sekulow
ACLJ Chief Counsel

It takes our tax dollars.
The abortion industry kills nearly a million babies every single year. The battle for life at the Supreme Court and courts nationwide has never been more important than today.

At this moment, we're critically engaged in more than half a dozen pro-life cases in courts across America.

We're taking on Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry after it was caught selling aborted babies' body parts for profit. We're defending pro-life pregnancy centers from laws that seek to shut them down - forcing states to implement a Supreme Court case we won.

We're defending pro-life advocates who are saving lives.

We've filed an amicus brief at the Supreme Court to defend babies with disabilities - in a major Supreme Court case against Planned Parenthood - and we're preparing a 2nd brief if the Court takes the case.

Right this moment, we're defending life. But we need you.

Sign Our Petition: Defeat Big Abortion in Court - Save Lives.

10 of the Most Common Birth Control Side Effects

by Grace Stark
Natural Womanhood

Maybe you’ve just started on birth control, and have started noticing some unsavory side effects. Maybe you’ve been on it for years and have suspected that it could be the culprit behind a cadre of symptoms you (or your doctor) can’t seem to get to the bottom of. Or maybe you need a method of family planning, and it seems that when you compare the laundry list of potential side effects for all of the hormonal options, there’s just no winning choice.

What’s worse, women’s very real, and sometimes very serious complaints on birth control are often downplayed by the medical and pharmaceutical establishment. The unfortunate truth is, as with any medication, there are risks for side effects, and birth control is no different. We often forget that these drugs contain significant doses of hormones that impact multiple functions and organs in our bodies, not just ovulation and ovaries. Here are 10 of the most common side effects reported by women on hormonal birth control.

Natural Womanhood is the most far-reaching women’s health literacy program since the Pill. We exist because many women are harmed by or at risk from the use of contraceptives, and most don’t know they have a viable alternative.

Natural Womanhood is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion of fertility charting, as a way to promote disease prevention, self-knowledge, relational intimacy, and effective family planning. Natural Womanhood helps young women and couples regardless of their income, ethnicity, or religion.

Top Ten Pro-Life Achievements of 2018 from Operation Rescue

By Cheryl Sullenger
Operation Rescue

Wichita, Kansas – From the revocation of a notorious abortionist’s medical license, to an abortionist jailed, and others under investigation, the theme for 2018 focused on enforcement that brought abortionists who break the law to justice.

“I have often said that if all the existing laws already on the books were enforced, abortion clinics would shut down in droves,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “When abortion clinics close, lives are saved.”

But for Operation Rescue, enforcement is just a small part of what we do. Each day, we research and document abortion abuses. We use that documentation to file complaints with the appropriate authorities, then demand that the laws be enforced. We work with legislators, lobbyists, and lawyers who use our data to enact common sense pro-life legislation and defend it in court when challenged.

We also expose abortion abuses and the abusers who perpetrate them through our substantial internet presence that now includes three websites and social media outreaches, including an active YouTube channel, (which have drawn the ire of pro-abortion suppression and censorship.) We further bypass the media information roadblocks with a vast direct e-mail following and press releases.

YouTube Reportedly Changes Search Algorithm After Writer Complains There Are Too Many Pro-Life Results

By Tre Goins-Phillips
Faith Wire

A progressive writer was frustrated last week after she discovered a simple search for “abortion” on YouTube yielded a series of pro-life video results.

April Glaser, a journalist for Slate, revealed via Twitter that she contacted YouTube after she typed “abortion” into the website’s search bar and was met with “a horrifying mix of gore and dangerous misinformation.”

Glaser claimed YouTube changed the algorithm for its search results after she reached out to the Silicon Valley-based company.

In her accompanying article, the Slate writer argued YouTube showed too many pro-life videos, revealing the dangers and graphic nature of abortion. She went on to say the website didn’t feature enough pro-abortion videos.

While Glaser said the “abortion” search results at Google, which owns YouTube, were “relatively staid,” she felt she’d entered “a whole other universe” when she perused the video website.
“Before I raised the issue with YouTube late last week,” she wrote, “the top search results for ‘abortion’ on the site were almost all anti-abortion — and frequently misleading.”
YouTube’s willingness to immediately alter the algorithm to give more favorable results to Glaser went quite a ways in revealing the company’s left-leaning perspective.
