Oprah Tells Her Mother Thank You for Choosing Life, Then Celebrates Women Who Have Abortions

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

One of the last things Oprah Winfrey did before her mother died this fall was to thank her for choosing life. The celebrity’s mother, Vernita Lee, 83, died on Thanksgiving Day.

Winfrey is not pro-life. She promotes pro-abortion campaigns and politicians through her media empire. But she did see the value of her mother’s difficult decision to choose life for her as a young teenager.

In a new interview with People Magazine, Winfrey described her last moments with her mother and her struggles to communicate what she was really feeling.

A few days before Lee died, Winfrey said she canceled all her meetings and traveled to Milwaukee to be with her.
“I waited for a way to say what I wanted to say,” she said. “I couldn’t find it that day. The next morning I woke up, and I was actually praying for, ‘What is a way I can have this conversation about the end? How do I close it?’ I just thought, ‘What is the truth for me? What is it that I need to say?’”
Eventually, Winfrey did figure out what she wanted to say: Thank you. According to the report:
She recalls, “I played another one of her favorite artists, Joshua Nelson, singing ‘How I Got Over.’ I could see that it opened her a little bit, because my mother’s been a very closed down person. I could see that the music gave me an opening to say what I needed to say.”
“What I said was, ‘Thank you. Thank you, because I know it’s been hard for you. It was hard for you as a young girl having a baby, in Mississippi. No education. No training. No skills. Seventeen, you get pregnant with this baby. Lots of people would have told you to give that baby away. Lots of people would’ve told you to abort that baby. You didn’t do that. I know that was hard. I want you to know that no matter what, I know that you always did the best you knew how to do. And look how it turned out.’”
Lee gave birth to Oprah when she was 18 and living in Mississippi, according to the report. She struggled with poverty throughout her life, working as a maid and trying to raise three children. She made an adoption plan for her fourth child, Patricia, a half-sibling that Oprah did not even know she had until adulthood.

Later, Lee told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she never told Oprah about her half sister because she was ashamed of the adoption. Lee said she was not able to take care of Patricia herself.
“I thought it was a terrible thing for me to do,” Lee said.
But as Winfrey pointed out in her final good-bye to her mother, it was not terrible at all. Lee chose life for her and her half-sister. Those were difficult decisions, but they were courageous ones because Lee gave her daughters a chance at life. She did not take what some would consider the easy way out and have an abortion. That truly would have been a “terrible thing,” but Lee chose the better, more difficult path because she knew her daughters’ lives were valuable.

Sadly, Winfrey has not promoted this type of courage lately. Instead, her magazine recently featured the “Shout Your Abortion” campaign, a pro-abortion movement where women brag about how wonderful it was to abort their unborn babies. Winfrey also campaigned for pro-abortion candidates this fall. In doing so, she seemed to forget how her mother was one of those women in difficult circumstances and she one of those unborn babies who could have been aborted.

Mother Pregnant From Rape: My Son ‘is the Greatest Gift I’ve Ever Been Given’

"God knew what he was doing when he created my son and he is priceless."

(Save the 1) – He was my friend. He made me laugh. He was a very big guy about 6 foot 3 and 280 pounds. It was December 19th. I remember that distinctly. He was trying to cheer me up because it was the anniversary of my father‘s death, and he was visiting me at my apartment. I had no reason not to trust him at the time.

Everything changed in a moment when he grabbed me by the back of my neck and pushed me onto the bed on my stomach. He never let go of the back of my neck and I was afraid. I was so afraid. This tiny voice inside me like a whisper was saying “stop, please, please stop.” But no one could hear because it was such a tiny whisper.

I have to say I don’t even remember how he got my clothes off. It is a blur. I only remember his hand on the back of my neck. And I remember fear. I remember pain. And I remember the whisper.

Part of me thought I was going to die, but somewhere deep down I knew that I wouldn’t. I couldn’t breathe because my face was pressed so hard into the bed. In many respects, I did die that day. Not physically, but in a way people will never understand. I died inside and it feels like nothing will ever heal it.

When he was done, he just let go and left my apartment. I just lay there and cried. Somehow, I thought that I had done something wrong and that it was my fault. I couldn’t comprehend how a friend would do this to me. He was married, his wife was a court reporter, his father-in-law was a retired police officer. And he knew I had a boyfriend. Knowing his family connections, I quickly thought that if I reported this, nothing would ever come of it. Nevertheless, I did call the police and that’s pretty much what I was told. So I kept silent after that.

About two or three weeks later, I was terrified as I took the pregnancy test in a restaurant bathroom. I already knew in my heart what the result would be, but I wasn’t prepared to see it. Pregnant by rape, I felt so alone. I was poor, I didn’t know what I was going to do, and I felt that my only recourse was that I had call him and tell him. His immediate response was, “Are you sure it’s mine?” I was certain because of the timing and because my boyfriend and I had never had unprotected sex. Conversely, my rapist didn’t hold back at all. Then he asked me how much an abortion was going to cost. I had no idea. And the conversation ended with him telling me, “Let me know.”

In my mind, I wasn’t going to have my child, but my soul kept telling me not having my child was wrong. I never called the abortion clinic. And I quickly made the decision that I was not aborting my child. For the next several months, I lived alone with this secret of my pregnancy. But I had a small frame, and my boyfriend began to notice. He assumed I had cheated on him, and I still could not verbalize what had been done to me, so I let him think that, and our relationship ended.

At the same time, my family saw my growing belly, and I lived with everyone assuming I’d cheated on my boyfriend with a married man. I could deal with that shame better than dealing with the shame I had from the rape.

Even though I lost my boyfriend, several of my special friends, and the respect of my family, there was still no question in my mind that the matter was simple — I’m pregnant and I’m having a baby. And that was that.

The day my son was born, the nurses placed him in my arms, and he latched on and nursed right away. I gazed at him and my son was just perfect. I didn’t give one thought to the man who raped me. My son was mine and mine alone. And it turned out that my dearest child was the greatest gift I’ve ever been given. He has beautiful green eyes and adorable red hair.

Thanks in Part to ‘The Little Old Man From the Sidewalk,’ Amy Chose Life for Her Baby

By Kelli
Live Action News

Sidewalk counselors are the unsung heroes on the front lines of the pro-life movement. As the 40 Days for Life sidewalk outreach holds its 2018 Summer Symposium this weekend, it’s a fitting time to celebrate sidewalk counselors’ courageous work touching the lives of countless women in this country by offering help and hope in their time of crisis. Because of them, many women chose life — and continue to choose life — for their babies.

One woman, Amy Blackwell, recently shared her story on social media, singing the praises of her personal hero, “the little old man from the sidewalk.” She wrote in a Facebook post about the day she went to an abortion facility to get a consultation for an abortion, and had an encounter she would never forget:

Today I met him! Who is the him? The little old man from the sidewalk. 7 years ago I went to this Hope Medical Group for women abortion clinic. This man was on the side walk (they call it sidewalk ministries. They pray and try to talk to the ladies who are headed into the abortion clinic.)

He turned and looked at me. I saw his mouth moving and in his hands was a rosary. I could see the look and sadness on his face and the eagerness in his eyes to speak with me. I sat there in my car covered in shame for what seemed to be an hour but was around 10 mins. He finally turned around and I bolted out of the car. The Holy Spirit was at work as I was a complete basket case while I was in there….

So after 7 years of thinking of him and loving him for his part in my daughters life, God brought us together today. He, who now I know as Mr. Brocato, has the blessing of seeing the fruits of his labor. He is now 90 years old and not able to stand on the sidewalk anymore – BUT in his place, I now stand.

In a separate video on Facebook, Amy shared her full testimony, in which she said that as she began to get out of her car that day at the abortion facility, “he turned a 180 and stared right at me…. It seemed like I sat there for about 30 minutes… he just kept on looking at me. And I just have to know that man was praying for me. He knew why I was there.”

READ: 12,206 babies have been saved from abortion due to 40 Days for Life campaigns

Amy described the abortion facility as “a dark, musty-smelling place” where she “had to pay $50 for an ultrasound,” and the whole time, she was telling herself, “there’s no way I can look at my baby on an ultrasound and go through with this.”

She describes a deceptive, “beautifully worded” booklet she read at the abortion facility, which talked about “people just not ready to have kids, financially not ready, or emotionally not ready, and they make them into beautiful stories.” But it was all a deception.

Amy was 30 years old, and says she was in “a deep, dark place” mentally at the time. Her friend had printed out information on fetal development and continued trying to talk her out of an abortion. Amy says that for 30 miles on the ride to the abortion facility, she was in a sort of “trance” and wasn’t in a right state of mind until her friend’s words “finally broke” her emotionally and “God used her in that moment” to help Amy realize that she could not go through with the abortion.

She chose life for her daughter, and has no regrets. She says in the video above, “I’m so thankful that I get to look at my little girl every day… She’s a gift from God… that little girl saved my life.

What If I Weren’t Here?

By Faith
Shared with permission by the March for Life

When my mother was pregnant with me, she thought she had miscarried several times. Upon running some prenatal diagnostic tests, her doctor revealed that I had a high likelihood of being born with a chromosomal disorder, such as Down Syndrome.

Delivery itself, the doctor cautioned my mom, could kill her. Why risk leaving 2 healthy kids motherless? Why cause her husband this pain…for a defect like me? Abortion was clearly the only “smart choice.”

My mom named me Faith because she chose life. She recognized my inherent dignity. She trusted God had a plan for me, regardless of my abilities or disabilities. And thank God she did.

Twenty years later, I can’t help but wonder if anyone would have noticed if I weren’t here. Twenty years later, I’m able to speak for the silent who never got their chance.

The pro-life movement is a chance to reflect on that “what if.” What if I weren’t here? What if YOU weren’t here? I can’t help but think about the countless people I could’ve known, but don’t–and how close I was to joining their ranks. I’m glad to be here. I’m glad to have been the exception.

I mourn for those like me who never had the chance to share a story with a happy ending. I march for them. I march because I could have been them. I march because I’m here…and they’re not.

Tim Tebow on Facing Abortion: Doctors Called Me a “Tumor” Not a “Baby”

By Katie Yoder
Life News

As his mother prepares to speak at the 45th annual March for Life later this month, Tim Tebow is giving a hint of what’s to come: he himself was almost a victim of abortion.

In an interview published earlier this month, the former NFL player and current minor league baseball star revealed the story of how doctors encouraged his mother to abort him. He spoke with Pastor Louie Giglio at 2018 Passion, an annual college student conference.

Tebow delved into his story after the pastor asked him what “made you into the person you are?”
“I was born in the Philippines to missionary parents and I have a special birth story,” Tebow began telling how abortion almost became his reality. “The doctors said that I wasn’t even a baby; they said I was a tumor.”
That was something his siblings never let him forget – he jokingly added that they nicknamed “Timmy the Tumor” after he was born.

Because of his mother’s faith, he said, he was alive today.
“There was a lot of craziness with my entire – with my mom’s pregnancy with me,” he said. “She decided to trust God and not what the doctors were saying.”
His life, he said, was a miracle.
“And then I was born and it was a miracle — the placenta wasn’t attached the entire pregnancy, but I was malnourished, but I made up for it pretty quickly.”
He concluded by thanking his parents for serving as his role models and influencers.

Both he and his mother appeared together in a pro-life 2010 Superbowl ad. Even though he’s been attacked by the media for it, Tebow has always been very public about his faith, from his sports career to his volunteer work.

Medical Miracle; 12-Ounce Baby Born 4 Months Premature Gets to Go Home

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

Emily Rose Hollins arrived home from the hospital on Friday for the first time since her premature birth five months ago.

Emily is one of the smallest babies to survive outside the womb. She was born four months prematurely, weighing just 12 ounces, KOCO News 5 reports. She is the tiniest baby ever to survive at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
“Just knowing what she’s gone through and where she is today, … that’s a miracle,” her mother, Melanie Hollins, said.
Emily’s life is a miracle for more than one reason.

Before Melanie Hollins knew she was pregnant, she said she was diagnosed with stage four kidney failure. She was undergoing tests and hoping to get on an organ transplant list when she found out that she was pregnant with Emily — something she did not think was possible.

Under such circumstances, some women may have chosen abortion, but Melanie chose life for little Emily. When Emily arrived four months early, Melanie thought her tiny daughter might die. Doctors warned her that Emily had just a slim chance of surviving. But Melanie said the nurses encouraged her so much as they cared for her baby girl.
“That helped me to give everything I have to her,” Melanie said.

Meet Autumn: Star Wars Star’s Family Wanted Abortion, Her Mom Chose Life

“It may seem hard or seem that they’re alone, but they just have to look for resources. I had no idea at first about what was available.”

By Lisa Bourne
Life Site News

The mother who was pressured to abort by the famous family of her baby’s father is going about the business of raising her child that she welcomed into the world last fall.

Maegan Chen was dating Nathan Hamill last year when she became pregnant. Hamill, some of his friends and family members – he’s the son of actor Mark Hamill and his wife Marilou – tried to coerce Chen or manipulate her into aborting.

At one point, she agreed to the abortion and was given the abortion pill, but the drugs didn’t work and her daughter, Autumn, survived. Despite many challenges, Chen is resolute in her belief that giving her child life was the right thing to do and that her daughter is a gift from God.

Chen has that same message for other mothers in her situation: You won’t regret choosing life for your child.
“It’s hard,” she said, “and you will have to sacrifice. And it may seem like a burden, but it’s going to be the best thing you’ve ever done.”
Autumn is a happy baby who is always smiling, Chen told LifeSiteNews.“She’s very affectionate,” Chen said. “I’m really very lucky. She always wants to be with me.” The seven-month-old is beginning to crawl, rocking on all fours, and she loves to play with Chen’s French bulldog, grabbing his face and pinching him.

Autumn’s bright blue eyes always have people approaching to remark on their beauty, said Chen, and the joyful baby always smiles when she sees her six-year-old brother, Ethan, reaching for him.

As gorgeous as her daughter is, Chen hopes that people will see past her physical beauty to recognize that she has the sweetest spirit and other wonderful qualities. Born on Halloween last year, Autumn is named for Chen’s favorite season.

While Chen concedes she has not been a regular church-goer, she is very much a believer in God, and in Satan, and she’s purposeful in stating that God is the only reason the abortion didn’t work.

She’s grateful to God, and His intervention in Autumn making it into the world is not lost on her.

“He knew my heart,” Chen said, “and He knew I didn’t want to have an abortion.”

Image
Autumn was baptized on Easter Sunday
Chen had her daughter baptized at a Pasadena, California, church on Easter Sunday. Autumn was sponsored at the service by a friend of Chen’s.

“I wanted her baptized,” Chen explained. “I believe with what she’s going to face (in life), I want God’s protection for her.”

Chen feels that Autumn is God’s gift, especially because she lost another child to abortion between Ethan and Autumn.

Many people around her had told her to abort Ethan, she recalled, but she didn’t and never regretted it. Regret does not come close to covering her feelings for having aborted her next child.

“It really damaged me,” Chen told LifeSiteNews. “It’s like an empty feeling,” she said, describing the desolation. “I felt whole before. Afterward, I felt empty.”

Chen explained how she has had been depressed since having the abortion. So when she was pressured to abort Autumn, it brought the devastating loss back to the forefront.

Actress Nicole Scherzinger Was Almost Aborted: Thankfully My Grandparents Were Pro-Life

By Katie Yoder
Life News

At a time when Hollywood gushes over abortion, this actress is one pro-life rebel.

Pussycat Dolls singer and Moana voice Nicole Scherzinger stars as Penny Johnson in ABC’s upcoming Dirty Dancing remake. But the 38-year-old nearly refused the role – because of her stance against abortion.

In the classic 1987 film, actress Cynthia Rhodes originally played the character Penny, who survives a dangerous illegal abortion.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Scherzinger revealed the reasoning behind her pro-life views: she could have been aborted.

“My mum got pregnant with me when she was 17 and had me when she was 18,” Scherzinger admitted. “She chose.”

She credited her grandparents for her birth.

“Her parents were never going to let her have an abortion,” Scherzinger said of her mother. “So I came out, so I just want to you know encourage everybody to keep your babies.”
Her family as a whole, she stressed, stands against abortion.
“I was like a crazy thing because, my family, my Papa’s a Bishop and my family’s really hardcore against abortion,” she said, and that influenced her perspective on playing Penny.
“So I got the role and I almost didn’t take it because I didn’t want to promote abortion,” she added, “because my character has an abortion.”

In the end, she accepted – in order to impact others on the issue. “But I was like,” she explained, “hopefully they can learn from you know her ways and I can be a positive influence.”

To make the decision, Scherzinger, raised Catholic and born in Hawaii, sought the counsel of her family.
