Five Best Moments for Life and Family at the UN in 2017

By Austin Ruse
Center for family and Human Rights (C-Fam)

NEW YORK, December 29 (C-Fam) The pro-life and pro-family fight at the UN is always difficult. But even with our political and financial disadvantage our team has been able to consistently deliver victories for life and family. Here are the most significant pro-life developments of the past 12 months.

1. Pro-life U.S. President Donald Trump Transforms Global Abortion Debate.

Though pro-life supporters of Donald Trump were mocked last year, Trump is proving to be the most pro-life president in U.S. history. He not only reinstated the Mexico City Policy, which forbids U.S. family planning money from going to pro-abortion groups overseas, an important but relatively small amount of money, he expanded it to include all of roughly $9 billion of U.S. global health aid. Trump also defunded the UN Population Fund for its complicity in forced abortion. And the U.S. took a stand to qualify “reproductive health” to exclude abortion in UN agreements, as well as G7, and G20 negotiations. Some who are weary of the fight say “reproductive health” is a lost cause. This shows it is not and that we can do even more.

2. Nations Speak Up for Family and Parental Rights.

The Human Rights Council in Geneva adopted the resolution on protection of the family for the third year in a row. Sadly, the U.S. did not support it. In the Spring, the Commission on Population and Development could not adopt a resolution because of European insistence on sexual rights, comprehensive sexuality education, and overemphasis on sexual and reproductive issues. In the Fall, the small island State of Saint Lucia and African delegations outmaneuvered the Europeans in negotiations to make sure parental rights made it into three General Assembly resolutions about children. They proved that defying European donors is not only possible but that it pays dividends.

UN Human Rights Committee Formally Excludes Unborn Child from “Right to Life”

UN Committee Condemns Unborn Children to Abortion

By Stefano Gennarini, J.D.
Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam)

NEW YORK, November 3 (C-Fam) Despite pleas from more than one hundred governments and pro-life organizations, including the United States and Poland, the UN Human Rights Committee has excluded unborn children from the right to life in international law this week in Geneva.

“I was worried for a minute we would discuss the word limit for separate opinions,” joked Yuval Shany. The Israeli law professor was mocking pro-life concerns as the committee rushed through a second reading of a controversial draft commentary on the right to life in what is perhaps the most important UN human rights treaty.

UN Honors Planned Parenthood Abortion Activist with Population Award

By Stefano Gennarini, J.D.
Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam)

NEW YORK, July 1 (C-Fam) The United Nations awarded longtime Planned Parenthood executive Carmen Barroso for her work promoting “sexual and reproductive health and rights” at a ceremony at UN headquarters last week.

The iconic abortion advocate dedicated the award to doctors and health providers who perform illegal abortions and explained how the motivation for her life’s work was personal. Dancing to a Brazilian tune as she received the UN Population Award, Barroso called these doctors “unsung heroes.”

The head of the UN Population Fund Babtunde Osotimehin praised Barroso for 40 years of advocacy for “sexual and reproductive health and rights, including the right of adolescents to comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services.”

UN Chief Abandons Transparency on Funding for Reproductive Health

by Stefano Gennarini, J.D. and Rebecca Oas, Ph.D
Center for Family & Human Rights (C-Fam)

NEW YORK, April 15 (C-Fam) The UN Secretary-General failed to produce an annual report tracking funding for reproductive health that served as an important oversight and accountability tool for nearly 20 years.

Ban ki-Moon declined to produce the annual report, although it is required, citing the difficulty of estimating expenditures for different areas of reproductive health and their increasingly “integrated” character—something the Secretary General has been pushing over the past decade.

This week Ban invited the Commission on Population and Development to consider changing the methodology and focus of the report. He suggested the methodology used by UNFPA and the Guttmacher Institute in the “Adding it Up” report released two years ago, which recommends spending more money on family planning in order to avoid spending on maternal health care.

Thousands of Radical Feminists at the UN Right Now‏

Thousands of Radical Feminists at the UN This Week...
Clamoring for a Right to Abortion...
Help US Stop Them…

from Austin Ruse
President/C-Fam
Publisher/Friday Fax

As you read this, we are in dire trouble and so is the unborn child.

A few thousand radical feminists are jamming the UN Commission on the Status of Women clamoring for all manner of awful thing, including the right to kill their unborn babies.

They also want this “right” imposed on all the people of the world.

These radical feminists have friends in high places. They are supported by the Secretary General of the UN, all the major UN agencies including UNICEF and the World Health Organization, the European Union and the US government.

These radical feminists are heavily funded. They have millions of dollars behind them, hundreds of millions if you include such wicked groups as Planned Parenthood.

We are outmanned 100 to 1. We are outspent one billion to one. We are always on the precipice of losing everything and now is no different.

There is a dangerous document under negotiation and we have a very good chance of stopping it. As always, your loyal C-Fam and Friday Fax staff are there…fighting back…

Stefano Gennarini, our legal expert, is there.
Lisa Correnti, our Executive Vice President, is there.
Wendy Wright, editor of the Friday Fax, is there.
Rebecca Oas, our research maven, is there.
We are very close to some very good and pro-life delegations and I am told by my team that things look good, but things can change in an instant. The US, the EU and the radical feminists never ever give us, not until the final moment of the final day.

The Commission on the Status of Women is now halfway done. The final day is this coming Friday, probably at midnight or beyond.

I promise you that C-Fam and the Friday Fax will do everything we can to stop the radical onslaught. As we always have.

For 20 years the radicals have wanted to use the UN to create a global right to abortion and they have lost because we and collaborators have stopped them.

They have wanted to redefine the family and they have lost because we stopped them.

Today we need your immediate help to stop them once again. I ask for your prayers. Right now. Please pray for us and our success when you read these lines.

And we need your assistance. Our opponents get hundreds of millions from governments and from rich foundations like Rockefeller, Gates, and all the rest. We rely on help from regular people just like you.
