Pro-Life Reflections for March 4

REFLECTION:

We are blessed, indeed, if we mourn over our sins and over the evils in the world; like the daily killing of children by abortion.

When is the last time we shed tears over the shedding of blood, and wept for the lives of these  babies killed and moms and dads wounded?  Let us pray for the gift of those tears!

PRAYER:

Lord, give me a broken heart over abortion. Give me the grace to do my part in ending this evil, and give me comfort, as You bring justice to the earth.

Pro-Life Reflections for March 3

REFLECTION:

God's own finger wrote in stone the commandments He gave to Moses, and through Moses to us.

"You shall not murder" refers to the deliberate act of taking an innocent human life, and is forever prohibited precisely because all life belongs to God, and God is life itself.

PRAYER:

Lord, Your prohibition on murder was literally written in stone and is unchangeable as You are.  Give all Your people the gift of obedience.

Pro-Life Reflections for March 1

REFLECTION:

The word "compassion" comes from the Latin words meaning "to suffer with." Love brings us closer to people, and when they are in  pain, love wants to come closer still.  Love gladly suffers for and with the one who is loved.  The so-called "right to die" is really a cleaver disguise for the "right to kill."

PRAYER:

Lord, free us from the selfishness that wants to run away from the suffering of others.  Instead, fill us with true compassion so that we may suffer with them.

Pro-Life Reflection for February 16

REFLECTION:

Abortion supporters often say most Americans are pro-choice.  But the pro-choice position is that a person can choose an abortion any time in pregnancy, for any reason, and even at the taxpayer's expense.

This position has never been embraced by a majority of Americans, and never will be.

PRAYER:

Father, send Your Spirit upon Your people to help us discern the law written on our hearts.  Protect us from falling into false and harmful opinions.

Pro-Life Reflections for February 13

REFLECTION:

The word "love" is the most misused, abused word in the English language. We say:  I love ice cream, I love my mother, I love my wife,  I love God. And some use "love" to justify abortion.

The real meaning of love is found at the Cross.  Love says, "I sacrifice myself for the good of the other person." Abortion says, "I sacrifice the other person for the good of myself."

PRAYER:

Lord, I commit myself today to the love of others, especially those most in need.

Pro-Life Reflections for February 10

REFLECTION:

Some people say that the solution to the abortion problem is to change people's hearts.  In fact, changing people's hearts is the solution to every problem that the world faces.

But that doesn't mean that we don't have laws.  So long as there are people around whose hearts are not in the right place, there have to be laws to restrain their heartless activities.

PRAYER:

Father, I thank You today for laws and for lawmakers.  As You guide and convert our hearts, make them also obedient to authority, and make authority obedient to Your law.

Pro-Life Reflections for February 9

REFLECTION:

Jesus was about to raise Lazarus, but Martha was worried about the stench.  We too fear the stench.  Politicians fear who will vote against them; businesses fear who will stop supporting them.

"Surely, there will be a stench."  And that becomes the excuse not to act - even when we know that Jesus has authority over death.

PRAYER:

Lord, free us from our fears and calculations, and make us bold as we battle the culture of death.

Pro-Life Reflections for February 5

REFLECTION:

Abortion has killed children who may have been great scientist, doctors, and inventors.  Yet every life taken by abortion is equally valuable.

People do not derive their value from how productive or famous they are.  The most obscure and humble life has as much intrinsic value, and as many human rights, as the most notable personalities in history.

PRAYER:

Lord, I cannot begin to imagine the plans You had for reach aborted child.  May we realize more deeply the value  of each one of them, even the most humble and forgotten.

Pro-Life Reflections for February 4

REFLECTION:

Abortion advocates say we should "trust" women to make their own decisions.  Are we then to simply trust that people won't lie, cheat, run red lights, or rob a local store?

At times, people do not respect the rights of others.  That's why laws exist.

PRAYER:

Lord, with St. Paul, I acknowledge that I am inclined to sin despite my best intentions.  Help me as I struggle against evil.

Pro-Life Reflection for February 3

REFLECTION:

Some abortion advocates oppose "litmus tests" for judges.  But if a judge had written an opinion about why women should not have the right to vote, wouldn't that be enough to disqualify him from being confirmed?

The fact is that we use litmus tests all the time, because certain lines should never be crossed.  The killing of children by abortion is one of them.

PRAYER:

Lord, Judge of all, give wisdom to those entrusted with the task of human judgement, and let those who select them be guided by Your righteousness.

Pro-Life Reflections for February 2

Reflection:

God Himself is fruitful.  Love always overflows into life.  By commanding us as a human family to be fruitful, God is commanding us to be like Him.

He wants us to share the joy He has of giving new life.  God's Word counts fertility as a great belssing and sign of His favor.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the gift of fertility.  Help those who are trying to conceive. Give them the blessing and joy of new life.
