When the 26-Week Abortion Failed the Abortionist Left Her for Dead. But She Survived.

By Dave Andrusko
Life News

Hats off to the planners of the opening two general sessions of NRLC 2018, the three-day convention that kicks off today just outside of Kansas City, Kansas. Each session reinforced the already considerable power of the other.

As we discussed elsewhere today, in the first General Session, Dr. George Delgado explained in easily accessible language how “APR” (Abortion Pill Reversal) works to give women a second chance should they decide in mid-stream not to complete a chemical abortion. Hundreds of babies have already been saved because their mothers did not take the second of two drugs and instead were administered progesterone.

These are “abortion survivors.”

So, too, in a different way are Sarah Zagorski, Dan Compton, and Melissa Ohden, who spoke at “The Human Face of Abortion” General Session. Their stories are riveting and illustrate that while not common, there are abortion survivors whose living testimonies often leave pro-abortionists speechless.

Melissa survived a saline abortion in 1977. Her mother was told she was 20 weeks along when the truth was she was more like 30 weeks. Melissa pointed out that just last weekend she’d been interviewed by a pro-choice feminist historian at a woman’s conference.

During the conversation, the idea that abortion was, or can be, “merciful” was floated. But what could the historian say when Melissa pointed to the nurses and others in the NICU who refused to allow her to be neglected—that was merciful, not attempting to kill her. Or to the husband and children Melissa had that she wouldn’t, had the abortionist not “failed”?

Dan’s “abortion survivor” story is so complicated he only had time to touch on a few twists and turns. Raised in a Godly family, Dan chose to rebel and wasted a decade in alcohol and drug abuse.

His spiritual transformation is, in many ways, no less miraculous than the “rest of the story” about his birth that he did not learn about until he was an adult. For whatever reason, one of the most notorious late-term abortionists in the world, the late George Tiller, would not abort Dan’s mother. Not only did Tiller allow Dan’s mother to stay at his home until it was time, he delivered Dan!

Of course, Dan said he could not reconcile that action with Tiller’s 50,000 abortions or “why me?” and not all the others. But he is alive, a husband and a father and “because I was given life there is a whole line of people who will exist as a result.”

Sarah Zagorski —another abortion survivor. Her mother was mentally ill and already had seven children when she became pregnant with Sarah. At 26 weeks she went to an abortionist who “unsuccessfully” aborted Sarah.

As she explained to the audience, she was delivered alive and the abortionist encouraged her mother to leave her for dead (she was not breathing when she was born). But her mother refused and instead fought for her life.

Her story of her chaotic upbringing, her years in the foster care system, fortunately ended in adoption. Sarah lives a purposeful life, with a husband and children, and Special Projects Director for Louisiana Right to Life. As Sarah told the audience, all this was made possible because of the “gift” her mother gave her, a mother who lived in poverty and who battled mental illness.

President Donald Trump: Unborn Babies Have a “Basic and Fundamental Human Right, the Right to Life”

By Steven Ertelt
Life News

President Donald Trump today issued a letter to the National to Life Committee as hundreds of pro-life advocates gather to open its national convention today in Kansas City.

In his letter to the pro-life advocates, President Trump made it clear that he believes unborn children have a fundamental right to life.
“We all have a duty to defend the most basic and fundamental human right — the right to life. As President I am dedicated to protecting the lives of every American including the unborn,” Trump wrote.
The President also defended his pro-life record talking about the accomplishments he has made sense being elected president. Some of those accomplishments include defunding the international Planned Parenthood abortion business as well as signing legislation to make it easier for states to defund the abortion giant. He has also redirected taxpayer funds from the abortion company’s sex-ed programs to legitimate women’s health centers.
“Since my first day in office I have taken concrete actions to defend the right to life. One of the first actions I took as President was to reinstate the Mexico City policy to ensure the taxpayer dollars are not used to fund organizations that perform abortions in foreign countries. I also signed into law legislation that allows states to prioritize how they spend their family planning grant money, giving States the choice to withhold taxpayer funding from organizations that perform abortions.
Further, last month my Administration proposed updates to the regulations governing the Title X Family Planning program in order to improve Women’s Health and ensure that federal funds are not used to fund the abortion industry in violation of law.”

The president concluded by thanking the hundreds of pro-life advocates gathered at the National Right to Life convention for their efforts protecting babies from abortion.

He wrote:

“The National Right to Life Committee’s work is critical to protecting our nation’s most vulnerable. Since 1968 you have provided a voice to the voiceless. Each day you help spread compassion and promote the dignity of every human person. I am truly grateful for your efforts and I remain committed to continue working with you as we cultivate a world that values and regards every human life.”

Reflections on “Abortion: The Silent Holocaust”: Does Anyone See What I See?

For Fr. Powell, Roe was “Black Monday,” a catastrophe that figuratively knocked Powell to his knees.

By Dave Andrusko
National Right to Life

National Right to Life is commemorating 50 years of service to unborn babies, babies born with disabilities, and the medical frail elderly increasing the target of the “right to die” movement. In the 45 days until the annual National Right to Life convention begins in Kansas City, I’m going to post some stories from the past that speak as loudly today as they did when I first composed them.

We’re going to begin with a review I wrote 30 years ago of “Abortion: The Silent Holocaust,” a pro-life classic if ever there was one. The book is still very, very much worth reading.

We are now one-third into 1998 — the silver anniversary of the wicked Roe v. Wade decision. It’s nice to report that our readers are grateful and appreciative of the pivotal documents we’ve been reprinting that led up to the legal earthquake as well as of those early pro-life classics, such as Dr. Jean Garton’s “Who Broke the Baby?” which we’ve revisited. But no survey would be complete without “Abortion: The Silent Holocaust.”

Fr. John Powell’s little masterpiece has lost none of its power to move readers to tears and to action. Written from the heart, the book takes us through the valleys that Fr. Powell walked before he — and we — emerges on the other side wiser and stronger.

Powell was a bestselling author of a number of books when he took a sabbatical from Loyola University to devote the entire 1976-77 academic year to the pro-life cause. A passionate, charismatic speaker, Fr. Powell is credited with energizing many priests to be more actively pro-life. In the ensuing years he lectured at countless pro-life conventions, including National Right to Life’s.

This book is his most extended and personal exposition of why he was compelled to join the fight. It makes for riveting reading.

What would it profit the reader to sit down with a book first published in 1981? Think of it this way.

Many of those who today champion the unborn were not even born in 1973. It’s like coming in during the second act. Often it can be next to impossible for them to appreciate what a shock, what a body blow the unleashing of the killing machine was to pro-lifers.

But to read Fr. Powell’s provocative book is almost like being there the day the judicial sword was lowered on the necks of helpless unborn babies. His personal sojourn offers the contemporary reader a window into how Roe’s vicious assault on human life could simultaneously deeply dishearten and magnificently motivate those sensitive to what Powell called the “fragile mystery of life.”

For instance, describing the culmination of his own journey, he writes in Chapter One that,

“With all my mind and heart and strength I am pro-life: Wherever there is a flower of life I want it to bloom, to reveal its beauty for all the world to see.”
But this wonderfully affirmative declaration came at the end of a long, difficult stretch that began for Powell in the 1960s. The book reads almost like a diary that Fr. Powell shares with us to deepen our own commitment just as the events described in it matured and sustained his.

Pro-Life Group Urges Pennsylvania Voters to Support Pat Toomey and Donald Trump

By National Right to Life
Life News

National Right to Life announced today that its political committees, the National Right to Life Victory Fund and the National Right to Life Political Action Committee, are contacting over 650,000 identified registered pro-life voter households in Pennsylvania, urging a vote for Pat Toomey for U.S. Senate and Donald Trump for president.

“Pennsylvania is a pro-life state, and Pat Toomey and Donald Trump reflect Pennsylvania’s pro-life values,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “Pat Toomey and Donald Trump will provide a strong voice for the most vulnerable members of our society.”

As National Right to Life observes in its communications to registered pro-life voters, Katie McGinty supports a policy of abortion on demand, which allows abortion for any reason. Katie McGinty supports using your tax dollars to pay for abortion. Katie McGinty also opposed efforts in Pennsylvania to ban dismemberment abortions.

In contrast, National Right to Life highlights Pat Toomey’s strong pro-life position. He has a strong pro-life voting record. He supports protection for unborn children, including the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Pat Toomey also opposes using taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion.

National Right to Life is also urging pro-life voters to support Donald J. Trump for president. He is pro-life and opposes using taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion. He supports the bill to ban abortion after 20 weeks, when the unborn child can feel pain. He opposes dismemberment abortion and partial-birth abortion. Donald Trump has pledged to appoint pro-life justices to the United States Supreme Court.

Hillary Clinton would use taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion on demand. Hillary Clinton voted in favor of partial-birth abortion and supports late abortion after 20 weeks, when the unborn child can feel pain, as well as dismemberment abortion. Hillary Clinton has pledged to appoint only pro-abortion justices to the United States Supreme Court.
“Pennsylvania voters are concerned about the right to life and with the protection of the most vulnerable members of the human family. A vote for Pat Toomey and Donald Trump is a vote to save the lives of innocent unborn children,” said Tobias.

Breast Cancer Surgeon Angela Lanfranchi: The Abortion-Breast Cancer Link is Real

Dr. Angela Lanfranchi

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

Dr. Angela Lanfranchi is a breast cancer surgeon in New Jersey and researcher who has studied the link between abortion and breast cancer for decades.
She spoke at the National Right to Life Convention last month about how abortion can increase a woman’s risk of getting breast cancer and why research about the issue is so hush-hush in the public sphere.
Lanfranchi said she has been a practicing breast cancer surgeon since 1984. One day when she was getting ready for work, she said she had the TV on and heard an interview with Dr. Joel Brind, who has done extensive research on the abortion breast cancer link. Lanfranchi said she did not know a lot about the issue at the time, so she decided to begin researching it herself.
“I started collecting data in my own practice,” she said.
Lanfranchi said she began asking women more information about their reproductive history, including how many times they were pregnant, how each pregnancy ended and how long each pregnancy was. And she began discovering how different factors can impact a woman’s risk of getting breast cancer.

Based on her research and that of others, she found that premature births prior to 32 weeks, abortions and never having children or having them later in life all can contribute to an increased risk of breast cancer, she explained. These increased risks have to do with the hormone levels in a woman’s body and the changes in a woman’s breast tissue during pregnancy, she said.
