40 Days for Life - Northeast Philadelphia

The following article was reported on LifeSiteNews on June 21, 2018:

“Planned Parenthood has announced it intends to spend heavily to ensure that pro-abortion Democrat Tom Wolf remains the Governor of Pennsylvania.

“With nearly 75% of the Pennsylvania legislature opposed to safe and legal abortion, Governor Tom Wolf is critical to Planned Parenthood’s survival,” Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates & PAC declares in its solicitation for online donations. The group plans to spend $1.5 million toward his reelection this fall, the Tribune-Review reports.”

You may not have $1.5 million to fight against the actions of Planned Parenthood, but you do have one hour. Just one hour during a 40-day vigil period is all that we are asking to keep the pro-life message alive and possibly save a child from abortion.

The 40 Days for Life Fall 2018 campaign begins on September 26th and ends on November 4th. Please consider taking an hour to stand outside the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic at Roosevelt Boulevard & Comly Road to peacefully pray for and support the children whose lives may be ended that day and for their mothers and fathers who are struggling with the decision to save a life or to end a life.

This is NOT a protest. It is a faith-filled campaign that hopes to promote the sanctity of life through prayer and fasting. Please visit the 40Days for Life Northeast Philadelphia website for vigil details or contact Anita Flynn at: aflynn3250@yahoo.com

We may not be able to stop Planned Parenthood’s requests for donations to Governor Wolf’s campaign but we can show up at Planned Parenthood’s doorstep to prove that our prayerful voice is still strong in support of children who have no voice.

Largest 40 Days for Life Campaign Ends With 492 Babies Saved From Abortion

By Shawn Carney and David Brando
Life News

The largest 40 Days for Life campaign so far has ended – and here’s a huge thank you for helping save so many lives!

Reports are still coming in … but local 40 Days for Life leaders tell us that as of now, they’re aware of 492 mothers in 375 locations around the world who have rejected abortion and chosen life for their babies!

In many cases, all it took was the simple act of showing up to pray on the sidewalk.

Greensboro, North Carolina

“One day we were praying, just praying – not counseling, but just praying,” said Salvador in Greensboro.

As they prayed, they saw a young woman drive into the abortion center’s parking lot. But a few minutes she parked right in front of the 40 Days for Life vigil participants and got out of her car.

“She told me she needed prayers,” Salvador said. “I asked if she was there for an abortion and she said ‘yes,’ so we stared praying with her.”

After they prayed, the volunteers talked with her about pregnancy resources in the Greensboro area. “I gave her a brochure,” Salvador said, “and she left!”

Winnipeg, Manitoba

While Maria was praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil in Winnipeg, she was approached by a smiling woman.

“She said she was against abortion,” Maria said, “but her daughter was in the hospital for an abortion referral. Her daughter had gotten pregnant while in a relationship with an abusive, drug-addicted man.”

Maria asked the mother about adoption, and she replied that she was prepared to raise the child herself. “I assured her of our prayers and she went inside.”

A short time later, the woman came out to tell the volunteers she was bringing her daughter home. The younger woman was rethinking the situation. “The mom was smiling widely,” Maria said. “Praise the Lord!”

Public Prayer and Witness to End Abortion in Our Society

The following is from one of my social media friends.  I'm hoping that by posting this personal witness, it will inspire and encourage others to also come out and pray.  Our nation and society in general cannot continue to sit back and hope that someone else will do what we are all called to do.  It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to be involved.

Please, during this Lenten Season, plan to go to your local abortuary to give witness and pray.  Pray for those babies scheduled to be killed; pray for the parents who have bought into the lies of Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers; prayer for those who work in these facilities, that God will open their eyes to the horror they are committing; pray for our religious leaders that they will have the moral courage to speak out against this atrocity; and pray for our political leaders to do what is right and pass legislation to end the killing of our precious preborn children.

By Ann R

Today, I went out to my appointed time for 40 Days for Life Prayer and Fasting to End Abortion Campaign.

What can I say? I was so moved to have been there. The MAJORITY of women going into this Clinic were Black. Lord, we are killing ourselves. What The Middle Passage, Slavery, Reconstruction, Ku Klux Klan, Lynchings, Drugs could not do is now being accomplished via Abortion.

This is why I am participating. To stand up for the babies be they Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Mixed Race. People are people. We all are made in the image of God. Seeing that hurt so badly. I met 2 new Friends who also stand for Life! Elizabeth Hicks and Joshua Dent of Virginia Commonwealth University. We prayed together. I do not know about you but there were people there with signs stating "Babies are killed here". This is a well-known Abortion facility in Richmond. This was and is a PRAYER campaign. There is a place and a time for everything. In my humble opinion, Prayer should have been the main focus. Standing in solidarity and joining in Prayer. Sometimes, a peaceful, prayerful witness can touch hearts where a "Babies are killed here" sign can't. But what do I know?

UNITY! Day 5 of the 40 Days for Life Campaign

From Shawn Carney, National Director
40 Days for Life Campaign

One of the joys of 40 Days for Life is seeing so many different Christians united to end abortion. As a Catholic from the bible belt of East Texas, I’ve often seen Evangelical and Protestant Christians on fire to save lives from abortion and help women in need.

During a 40 Days for Life campaign, we see that unity far and wide – whether it’s in a nice, warm church in Florida … or a bitterly cold sidewalk in British Columbia.

The unity theme was really evident in Port Charlotte, where I had an opportunity to speak at their kickoff event. People from various faith communities came together to hear inspirational speakers and launch the campaign. The Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical Christians who gathered in a Baptist church were fired up by Katie, the local leader.

Katie is a young mother of three. She and her husband, Matthew, are deeply involved at their church … but they stepped up to lead the Port Charlotte 40 Days for Life campaign. After the rally, we went out to visit the abortion facility where the local vigil is being held.

I heard that the abortionist is growing more and more irritated at the peaceful presence. He even stopped at the vigil on his day off to harass the volunteers praying!

40 Days for Life Campaign: Day 34 - 371 Babies and Mothers Spared to Date!

From Shawn Carney

Are you ready for another serving of Monday morning good news? Here it is! So far during this 40 Days for Life campaign, we now know of ...

... 371 babies whose mothers decided to reject abortion!

Here are the stories of two of those babies ... their parents ... and grandparents.

Little Rock, Arkansas

On a typical Saturday morning, there are around two dozen people praying outside the abortion center in Little Rock. But the volunteers have a new obstacle now.

"Water sprinklers were installed on top of the privacy fence and constantly spray the sidewalk and driveway," said Mary in Little Rock. That makes it much harder to talk to women entering the building.

"We have suggested the sidewalk counselors wear rain gear now," she said.

The sprinklers can't stop the prayers. A woman walked through the curtain of water to tell Mary that her 16-year-old daughter would not be getting an abortion.

"She hugged the three of us praying and I directed her to the pregnancy care center across the street for help," Mary said. "Praise God!"

Mary asked the abortion center's security guard "if he really thought a little water would keep us away. He did not respond."

Newburgh, New York

A young lady arrived at Planned Parenthood along with her boyfriend and sister. "Although her boyfriend and sister did not support her decision to have the abortion," said Wendy in Newburgh, "her mother was pressuring her."

The boyfriend was upset over this decision, but felt he had no say in the matter. "He said that she was nine weeks pregnant and she even had an ultrasound picture of the baby," she said. "He couldn't bring himself to look at that picture knowing the fate of his baby."

The prayer volunteers encouraged him to go inside Planned Parenthood and get his girlfriend out. They told him to not give up on that baby because they certainly refused to do so.  As he went inside, they prayed fervently.

Finally, they all came out. "This young man looked like he had the weight of the world lifted off his shoulders," Wendy said. As he drove off, he smiled and gave a thumbs-up.

"Don't ever doubt that your prayers and presence make a difference," said Wendy.

Here's today's devotional from Rev. Paul Stallsworth, President of Lifewatch (United Methodist Church).

Day 34 intention

May we come to know that divine life, in relationship, creates human life.

Scripture

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

--John 1:1-3

Reflection by Rev. Paul Stallsworth

"In the beginning" was God. Always, before all times, there was God. This particular God -- the God of the Bible, the God of St. John's Gospel -- is different from all other gods. This God is alive and full of life. This God is not the picture of deadness and death, aloneness and isolation. This God is the picture of life, relationship, and unity.

For within this God, within this one God, there are three divine persons who live, who love, and who work -- together. This is the glorious mystery of the Trinity. The Trinity means divine life. The Trinity means three, living Persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- who relate to each other. The Trinity means mutual love and service among three Persons.

The Word was always with God the Father. This Word was, is, and will be the Trinity's second person. The Word is also the Son of God or, as revealed in time, Jesus Christ. God the Father and God the Son live, love, and work for each other. As one, they create "all things" together: the Father creates all things, including all human life, through the Son.

So the Father, through the Son, creates all human lives. The little one swimming in his mother's womb, the infant smiling in his father's arms, the child crying in pain in a hospital bed, the energetic teen running another mile, the old man gasping for his last breath -- all were created, at their beginning, by the Father through the Son. No exceptions. Divine life creates human life.

Prayer

O God, may we always be quick to call you Father. And when we call you father, let your Spirit remind us that we, and all people, from their beginning to their last day, are your children. We praise you, Father, that you sent your Son to reveal to the world that all people are His brothers and sisters, that all people are your children. Through Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

BIG News From Ohio! Another Abortion Facility May be Closing!

Day 23 of the 40 Days for Life Campaign

From Shawn Carney
Campaign Director

There is a facility owned by a notorious abortionist ... where a 40 Days for Life vigil is going on right now ... that could be on the verge of closing! This man pioneered the brutal partial-birth abortion technique. Here’s the story.

Sharonville, Ohio

“I was there yesterday with my son and all of his classmates praying for this center to close,” said one prayer volunteer in Sharonville. “Our prayers may be answered!”

Martin Haskell is one of the most infamous abortionists in America, and he owns this abortion location – just outside Cincinnati – which has been the site of five 40 Days for Life campaigns.

But now the Ohio health department has affirmed a recommendation that the facility’s license be revoked. The state requires such facilities to have an agreement with a local hospital to handle emergency cases, and Haskell doesn’t have one.

As of yesterday, the abortion business remained open. We're told that should not be the case much longer. We’ll keep watching. Please keep praying!

Charlottesville, Virginia

About 125 people turned out for the midpoint rally outside Planned Parenthood in Charlottesville -- including David Bereit, our national director -- and me! It was a great event.

Rush hour traffic on the busy street out front backed up at the light at the corner -- where the drivers couldn't miss the big banner announcing that 672 babies died from abortion at this facility last year.

One prayer volunteer started keeping track of drivers' reactions ... and in a short time, tallied 27 “happy honks” and only six “angry honks.”

Overland Park, Kansas

The sidewalk outside an abortion business called the Center for Women’s Health is the site of the first-ever 40 Days for Life vigil at that facility.

“This clinic is in a nice, business/professional section of our city,” said Wendy, the local director. And few people knew it was even there!

“Many of the employees from surrounding buildings ask, almost in a whisper, 'Is there an abortion clinic nearby?' They are surprised to find out it's just next door to their buildings.” And word is spreading. “This is big for our city,” Wendy said.

The Overland Park team isn't aware of any saved babies yet. “But we've had some of the employees at the Center for Women's Health wave back ... which is a success to us.”

Here's today's devotional from Dennis DiMauro of Lutherans for Life.

Day 23 intention

We pray for the strength to love those who do not love us.

Scripture

But the Lord said "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in the night and perished in the night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left, and much livestock? Should I not be concerned about that great city?"

-- Jonah 4:10-11

Reflection by Dennis DiMauro

God doesn't value people and things like we do. Jonah loved a shade tree more than an entire city of sinful people. We love our dogs more than a terrorist. We love our cars more than a beggar on the side of the road. And sometimes, we love our money more than a child growing in a desperate teenager's womb.

But God isn't like us. Genesis 1 tells us that humans were the capstone of God's creation. We were created on the sixth day after God had completed the land, the stars, the plants and the animals. Therefore, His love for us is greater than His love for a plant, an animal, or any other created thing.

And the book of Jonah tells us that He loves even the most sinful people and seeks to bring them into His merciful arms. And it's a love that seeks to touch all of his created children: that desperate teenager, the baby growing in her womb, even tyrants and terrorists.

So it's up to us to imitate God's merciful love by helping and praying for those who persecute us, and those who don't love us back.

Prayer

Gracious God, loving our enemies seems like one of most difficult things you could ask of us. Please remind us that this is how you love and that if you ask it of us then you will give us the grace to do it. This we ask through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Second Half of 40 Days for Life Begins Today!

How would your city change if there were 1,000 fewer abortions every year? What about 2,000 fewer abortions every year? That’s what has happened in Jacksonville, Florida since they did their first 40 Days for Life campaign back in 2007.

Jacksonville, Florida

One thing had to be overcome for those numbers to become a reality in Jacksonville: FEAR.

When we are challenged to pray at an abortion center, fear certainly comes to mind. Fear is normal, because the vigil can be hard — especially the first time. But this fear also offers an opportunity to stretch us … and increase our faith. And faith in God will always overcome fear.

As we enter the second half of this 40 Days for Life campaign, click below to watch a short video I made in Jacksonville earlier this year that illustrates this:

Now ... find one of the 306 campaign locations near you ... and remember that it was our Lord himself who told us to "be not afraid."

Beaumont, Texas

Eileen in Beaumont is also reaching out with words of encouragement to invite people to take part in the 40 Days for Life vigil.

“Please remember, all of us who come on a regular basis were once newcomers,” she said. “Yes, we too, had our jitters the first couple of times. But like everything in life, we soon overcame our fears with the grounded truth that Jesus Christ is present with us. He protects us, guides us, consoles us.”

Eileen said some people are nervous about what sort of sign to bring to the vigil. However, she said the primary sign each participant brings is “the love in your heart.”

Poughkeepsie, New York

40 Days for Life participants in Poughkeepsie are stepping out in faith with not only their vigil at Planned Parenthood but other community outreach activities as well.

Pamela writes that the prayers are being answered. “Last Wednesday, the day when surgical abortions are performed,” she said, “eight prayer volunteers were present.”

They watched as a couple left Planned Parenthood – and had a long discussion in their car. “They hugged each other and then left the facility smiling,” she said. They departed without having the abortion.

Here's today's devotional from Carmen Pate of Truth in Action Ministries.

Day 21 intention

Pray that we each will daily put on the full armor of God, so that we are strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

Scripture

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to stand.

- Ephesians 6:12-13

Reflection by Carmen Pate

I am confounded to see how the battle over the issue of life is perceived more often in churches today as political rather than spiritual. Ironically, the enemy has used this twisted perception to silence many in the body of Christ.

We must see the battle for what it is and if we are to be prepared to face the spiritual enemy on the issue of abortion, we must daily "put on" the armor God has given us:

Gird your waist with Truth (vs. 14) -- Commit your emotions to believe truth and to speak truth, regardless of the repercussions.

Put on the breastplate of Righteousness (vs. 14) -It will protect our hearts -- the innermost springs of our beings -- from all unrighteousness so evident in this fallen world.

Shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace. (vs. 15) -- Preparation is vital if we are to be effective in God's work.

Taking the shield of faith (vs.16) -- The Accuser will instill doubt, fear, and guilt. Faith acts as an invisible shield that deflects such false accusations.

Taking the Helmet of salvation (vs.17) -- A helmet protects the head, the brain and in turn our mind and thoughts. Satan hopes we will set aside divine revelation for human reasoning.

Taking the sword of the Spirit (vs.17) -- The Word of God, the only offensive weapon in this armor, was used by the Lord Jesus against Satan. The living Word is powerful and effective.

Our armor is complete. We are ready to wage war, and the next verse tells us how, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit." (vs.18)

Prayer

Dear Lord, as you lead us into the spiritual battle of abortion may we be reminded that the battle is truly Yours. We thank you for equipping us with Your armor. Lead us daily to put it on!

Thank you for allowing us to serve under your command, and for hearing our requests for direction and protection. Thank you for the victory that is ours because of Your Son, Jesus, Amen.
