Dallas Cowboy DeQuinton Osborne Salutes His Mom, Who Chose Life at 13

By Kristi Burton Brown
National Right to Life

DeQuinton Osborne’s mom had one rule for him before he joined the NFL: get a college degree. Dorothy Osborne knows first hand the hard knocks life can throw at a person — football star or not — and she has remained determined that the son she chose life for, whom she dubs “a miracle,” will be prepared.

At age 36, Dorothy has persevered through more than most will encounter in a full lifetime. She was raped as a young fourth grader, practically homeless as a middle schooler, exposed to parents who were addicted to cocaine, and then, at age 12, Dorothy became pregnant with DeQuinton, whom she gave birth to after her 13th birthday.

She explained to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
“I had those ‘Why me?’ questions. Now, I’m a Christian and I have faith, and everything does happen for a reason.”
Today, her son proudly appears in social media and the news alongside his mother. He wrote, “I love my mother. She my heart, glad I could see her smile. …”

Dorothy’s faith and determination have guided her son, and both are standout examples of what it means to embrace life, no matter the cost. Dorothy explains that, when a school physical exam revealed she was pregnant, the school officials and social workers rallied around her.

She had “doctors, counselors and state employees” who came to her side, making it easier for her to choose life. Since she was so young, these professionals sought to find out what had really happened to Dorothy and to provide her with as much aid and support as possible.

After Choosing Life for Her Baby at 15, Texas Teen Describes the Joy of Meeting her Son

By Texas Right to Life
National Right to Life

Fifteen-year-old Caitlin was an honor student and state champion choir member with a possible college scholarship on the horizon. After a single decision led to an unplanned pregnancy, Caitlin’s plans changed. Despite tremendous obstacles, Caitlin ultimately chose Life for her son.

The journey has been a difficult one with much uncertainty. On August 17, 2017, after 21 hours of labor, Caitlin welcomed her baby boy into the world. For this young mother, that moment confirmed everything she had struggled so hard for over nine difficult months: she had made the right decision in choosing Life for her son.
Caitlin says, “They placed him immediately onto my chest. He took his first breath and opened his eyes and looked at me. In that moment, I felt as if the world was silent. The naysayers and negativity was gone and that moment was all that existed.”
Shortly after, Caitlin suffered serious complications from the delivery and her son was taken from her as medical staff worked to stabilize her. Caitlin was in and out of consciousness, surrounded by panic, but she says she still felt the stillness of the life-changing moment she met her son.
“I remember thinking I was going to die, but I wasn’t scared. I knew that if I was going to die, it was okay, because I had given this baby life, when I so easily could have chosen, and almost did choose, not to.”
Caitlin’s fearlessness shows the wisdom beyond her years that has guided her. She says, “The absolute joy and love in my heart for this life isn’t something I even know how to put into words.”
Her son’s name is Carter Alexander. Carter means “bringer of goods,” and Caitlin chose the name because she wanted to show that he was bringing something good into the world. Alexander, which means “defender and helper of mankind,” signifies the goodness that Carter has brought into Caitlin’s life. She explains, “I believe with my whole heart that saving his life, he saved mine.”

Caitlin’s mother, Jenn Brescia, has stood by her daughter’s side every step of the way of this difficult journey. A single mom herself, Jenn knows the hardships Caitlin faces. She is proud of Caitlin’s strength in making the decision. Shortly after Caitlin became pregnant, Jenn lost her job and the family faced a dire financial situation. Now, Jenn is helping Caitlin care for Carter and trying to go back to work as soon as possible.
Caitlin says, “I thank God every day that my mom has been here to support me through this. She has been here with me, helping me learn and guiding me through Carter’s first weeks of life.”
Note Excerpts from remaining article:
Unfortunately, because Jenn was unemployed for part of Caitlin’s pregnancy, the family has still not recovered financially. Mere weeks after Carter’s birth, Jenn, Caitlin, and Carter have been evicted and as of September 1 are living in temporary housing while trying to find a permanent solution.

The family is reaching out to the community and has set up a GoFundMe page. To learn more about their story and to donate to support Caitlin and Carter, visit the fundraising website.

Judge Strikes Down Pro-Life Alabama Law Requiring Parental Consent for an Abortion

By Steven Ertelt
Life News

A federal judge overturned parts of an Alabama law that requires minors seeking an abortion to have a parent’s permission first.

Parental consent laws such as the one in Alabama help protect unborn babies and young mothers from abortion. The American Civil Liberties Union and Alabama abortion activists challenged the law in 2014.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Russ Walker struck down sections of the law on Friday, claiming they put an undue burden on young girls seeking abortions, the Associated Press reports. The ACLU argued that the law violates young girls’ rights to confidential proceedings.

Like many states, Alabama requires girls under 18 to have a parent’s permission to have an abortion. However, a judicial bypass provision allows a minor to request a judge’s permission to have an abortion rather than a parent’s. The provision is meant for girls who come from abusive homes, but abortion activists often tell young girls how to take advantage of the exception.

The now-overturned Alabama provisions also required minors who wanted a judicial bypass to appear in a trial-like court setting and have several lawyers and possibly her parents involved in the decision. It also allowed the court to appoint a lawyer to represent the interests of her unborn baby.

Walker ruled that these provisions “violate a pregnant minor’s long-established constitutional right to seek a judicial bypass to a state’s parental consent law without the participation of her parent, parents, or legal guardian … and her right to an anonymous judicial bypass hearing.”

“The judge cited a prosecutor’s appeal of a judge’s decision this summer to allow a 12-year girl to have an abortion after being impregnated by a relative. The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals ruled in favor of the girl,” the AP reports.
Polls show strong support for parental consent and notification laws that require a parent be involved in a minor’s decision to have an abortion. A Gallup poll found 71 percent of Americans favor such laws.

Former Abortion Workers Reveal How They Helped Teens Get Abortions Without Parents’ Knowledge

By Sarah Terzo
Live Action News

Former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson and the organization And Then There Were None, which Johnson created to help abortion workers leave the industry, held a webcast with former abortion workers on December 21, 2016.

In this webcast, the workers discussed ways in which their facilities put women at risk. For example, one abortion worker described how her facility never called an ambulance when women were hurt. The directors of the facility did not want to scare the other patients or let pro-lifers to get pictures of ambulances outside their doors. The webcast also covered ways abortion facilities are able to evade regulations.

At one point in the 2016 webcast, Abby Johnson and former abortion worker Margo discussed how minors are able to get abortions without their parents’ knowledge even in states that have parental notification or consent laws.

When parental notification/consent laws were found constitutional by the Supreme Court in 1990 in Hodgson v. Minnesota, a requirement was put forth by the court. Teens who did not want to notify their parents had to be given the option of a judicial bypass.

A judicial bypass process requires a pregnant minor to go before a judge and convince him/her that she is mature enough to make her own decision about abortion or, failing that, that abortion is in her best interest. The judge is supposed to weigh the facts of the case and make a decision. In reality, the hearings are often a rubber stamp process.

As Abby Johnson says:
[I]n states where it is the judicial [bypass], we know that those are just rubber stamped for these young women. So what that means is that a 13-year-old girl could go and see a judge in a secret court proceeding where her parents will never know she’s having an abortion. The school counselor can take her one day, her parents could drop her off at school, the school counselor or school nurse could take her to the abortion clinic where she would have the abortion.
The school counselor or nurse [would take her] back to school where her parents would pick her up at 3:30 in the afternoon, and the parents would have absolutely no idea that their grandchild had just been killed in the name of choice. They would have no idea that their little girl was just lying on a surgical exam room table having a very invasive surgical procedure.
That is the reality of abortion law in the United States. …. The judges just stamp it and say approved and these women go in to have an abortion….and they don’t have any parental involvement.
Margot explained that her abortion facility helped arrange judicial bypass hearings for minors who came to them. She says:
I do not believe that any of the minors who came to our clinic seeking help to get the judicial bypass were ever declined.

Just Get Rid of It” – The Words that Haunted Me Throughout My Teen Pregnancy

Submitted By

Waking up to another bad dream makes it so hard to go back to sleep. The same dream over and over. I was mid-way through my pregnancy and the nightmares of having you taken from me as soon as I gave birth left me breathless.

No chance to hold you, no chance to kiss your face, no chance to see you. I laid there crying out, “My baby, my baby.”
These nightmares would come off and on and I would rise up in the bed in the stillness of the dark night with tears streaming down my face. My shaking hand would rub my growing belly.

Scared and alone are not even close to describing the heartache of the thought of not holding you. The words of “just get rid of it, we can get it done and over with” repeated in my mind. The hurt of those words spoken over me.

I cried out to the Lord, but I felt as if my voice was snuffed out by the darkness in my room.
The excuses would cycle in my mind. Maybe I was being punished for this unplanned pregnancy, maybe it was because of the running away from everything I knew growing up, or the partying.

The isolation of all this fear kept me chained. I felt as if I could not get away from all the thoughts. Walking into church as a pregnant 18-year-old left me full of doubt and fear. The whispers and the stares. Then the night would repeat itself.

Night after night, the enemy was winning as I was struggling with the same nightmare of my precious baby being ripped away from me.
