Planned Parenthood’s Faith Leaders Promo Video Laden With Tragic and False Rhetoric

By Susan Michelle-Hanson
Live Action News

A new video promoting Planned Parenthood features members of the clergy boldly proclaim their unity with America’s number one abortion corporation, which took almost 330,000 innocent lives last year.

These clergy members, purported representatives of God, say Planned Parenthood is a necessity for our society. In using words like “ethical,” and admonishments claiming, “silence is no longer an option,” these faith leaders display a lack of faith in their public support of the ‘right’ to murder preborn children.

A Huffington Post article includes the abortion corporation’s promo video and says:

Christian and Jewish clergy members have been part of the movement for reproductive rights for decades. Religious denominations, such as the Anglican Communion, the United Church of Christ, and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), have passed resolutions supporting birth control. And during the 1960s, religious leaders were actually a “driving force” in the movement to legalize abortion in the United States.

Today, this history of activism has largely been overshadowed by prominent voices on the “religious right,” who promote the idea that it is impossible to be both religious and pro-abortion rights.

Despite what these clergy members may believe or justify, it really is impossible to support abortion and claim to be an advocate of the gospel and of social justice. The gospel message revolves around an innocent man shedding his blood and dying so that people could have life, not so more blood of the innocent could be shed in the name of justice.

She Has Down Syndrome But Swam the English Channel and She’s the First to Receive an Honorary Doctorate

By Int'l. Life Institute, Dublin, Ireland
Life News

On Saturday, a leading advocate for people with Down Syndrome, Karen Gaffney, will address a massive rally in Dublin city centre.

A long distance swimmer who relay swam the English Channel, and an impressive and witty public speaker, Ms Gaffney is the first living person with Down Syndrome to receive an honorary doctorate.

She has captured global attention, not only for her personal achievements but for her work on inclusion for people with Down Syndrome and her challenge to a culture where babies with Down Syndrome are increasingly aborted before birth. Her message to the world is that All Lives Matter, and she challenges the trend which is eliminating people with Down Syndrome before they are born.
“Imagine that here we are reversing the damage caused by institutions, removing barriers to education, making inroads into a full and inclusive life for people like me, and still we have those who say we shouldn’t even be born at all,” Ms Gaffney told an audience at a Ted Talk in Portland.
She says that people with Down Syndrome were now achieving success as “musicians and artists, golfers, models, public speakers, and good employees making a contribution to society” but that the race was on to find newer, faster ways to diagnose the condition before birth and that those pregnancies were all-too-often terminated.
“I believe that Down Syndrome is a life worth saying ‘yes’ to. It is a life worth saving. Every life has value, every life matters, regardless of how many chromosomes you have,” she says.

This Rape Survivor Chose Life for Her Son. Now He’s 21 Years Old.

By Luke Faulkner
Live Action News

This true story was shared on our Live Action Facebook page by Sharlene, a rape survivor:

I was 15, raped and pregnant. Now, 21 years later, have a happy, healthy 21-year-old son. My son did nothing wrong; he was just as much a victim of the rape as I was.

He didn’t ask for what happened to me anymore than I did. I would never let myself turn from victim into killer; I could never live with myself if I killed a baby — my baby no less. All that mattered to me was he was half mine, and I was going to do everything I could to give him the best life possible.
He is a blessing, not a curse, and he helped me heal from the rape, not relive it every day of my life.
You know what heals? Love is what heals and there is no greater love than that of a mother for her child.
He is my pride and joy. We made it work. Yes, I was scared out of my mind. I was not sure how I was going to finish school and raise a baby, but where there is a will there is a way, and I found all the resources I needed to help me accomplish my goal of being a parent who could provide for my son.
There are lots of resources to help people keep their babies; if they look they can find them, too. Rape babies are just innocent victims, and people think they should be killed when the rapist didn’t even get the death penalty and he was guilty of a crime…

See for Yourself the Pro-Life Messages Twitter is Suppressing

By Newsroom
LiveActionNews

With the U.S. Senate just days or weeks away from voting to redirect Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding to comprehensive health care providers, the legacy media continue to cheerlead for the abortion chain. To do their part in helping Planned Parenthood keep nearly $500 million annually in taxpayer funding, many media organizations are actively suppressing evidence that the abortion chain’s focus has been on increasing abortions while actually reducing what few women’s health services it does offer. Pro-life messages are often nowhere to be seen in the media.

As long as the mainstream media continue to cover up for Planned Parenthood, huge numbers of American taxpayers will never know that their hard-earned dollars are funding an abortion chain that does more abortions than breast exams and commits over 320,000 abortions every year.

The pro-life movement has been relying on social and digital media to get around the general media bias and take the evidence directly to the American people. But now the extreme pro-Planned Parenthood bias on Twitter is leading to censorship there and preventing millions of new people from being reached with pro-life messages, the real facts, and the actual statistics behind Planned Parenthood’s claims.

While Planned Parenthood is allowed to advertise on Twitter, the social media company has suppressed Live Action’s ads, calling our pro-life messages offensive and inflammatory. What exactly is Twitter calling so offensive and inflammatory? Tweeting a picture of a child developing in the womb and saying we believe in the right to life. Or tweeting ultrasound images, like the ones that most expectant moms hang on their refrigerator doors.
Planned Parenthood is allowed to tweet that a woman has a right to an abortion, but when Live Action tweets that a baby has a right to life, Twitter considers that “inflammatory” and “offensive.”
Planned Parenthood can tweet that people who don’t want their taxes funding an abortion chain are extremists, but when Live Action tweets that Planned Parenthood should be defunded, Twitter considers that “inflammatory.”
Planned Parenthood readily tweets about why it thinks women need Planned Parenthood, but when Live Action tweets that women don’t need Planned Parenthood, Twitter considers that “inflammatory.”
While it won’t censor Live Action’s and Lila Rose’s tweets outright, Twitter has banned our ability to advertise our content until we delete all the tweets it deems offensive – or, in reality, all the tweets that offend Planned Parenthood. Twitter has told us that we must delete:
  • all of our tweets calling for the end of taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood,
  • all of our tweets of our undercover investigations into Planned Parenthood, and
  • any ultrasound images of preborn children.
Twitter has effectively limited speech on the side of the issue it apparently rejects. This is disturbing behavior for a social media platform that has over 300 million active users a month and that presents itself as a forum for people to voice a variety of opinions and positions.

New Video is a Graphic Reminder of the Reality of Late-term Abortion

from Priests for Life

NEW YORK -- As part of its ongoing project to expose the reality of late-term abortion, Priests for Life today released a new video produced by Mark Crutcher and his team at Life Dynamics.

The video reinforces the message that Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has spoken throughout the nation, that “America will not reject abortion until America sees abortion.”

“This video, in a striking way, cuts through the slogans, rhetoric and abstractions and brings people face to face with what abortion is,” Father Pavone said. “Every church and every organization should be sharing this with their people.”

This video may be seen here.

The Mother of All Movements

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

One thing that might surprise the editors of many women's magazines is to what extent the pro-life movement is a movement of mothers.

This is not to negate the incredible contributions of pro-life heroes of the male persuasion, such as former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania Rick Santorum...the late Congressman Henry Hyde...or current U.S. Congressman Chris Smith. Each of those men, through both legislation and language, has had a profound impact on the success of the pro-life cause at the national level.

And I do not mean to overlook the persuasive power of both men and women who are not parents but nonetheless are amazingly life-affirming...from the Sisters of Life to Lila Rose...and from Priests for Life to Pope John Paul II.

But I have yet to see a secular news report that credits mothers with spearheading many of the initiatives that save lives, from the miraculous moment of conception to the tear-stained time of natural death.

Some of the mothers of the pro-life movement find time to devote to the cause of life amid the many demands of raising large families. Others balance pro-life work with family responsibilities and professional lives as attorneys, doctors, nurses, and business owners.

Some female leaders of the pro-life movement formed or grew their families through adoption. Some grieve children lost to accidents, illness, or miscarriage.

And there are some pro-life women today who lost their children to the tragedy of abortion. Most of them were pressured to have abortions they did not want. Others experienced a profound change of heart and mind about abortion after they began to grieve the children whose lives were taken at Planned Parenthood or another abortion facility.

Thus, when magazines that cater to a female clientele limit the definition of women's rights activists to those who support legal abortion, they are missing much of the story. Because so many women across the country believe passionately in protecting the life of the woman within the womb...and sparing women from the heartache of abortion.

When I was a little girl, my mother took a lunch break each day to watch a soap opera called "All My Children." Not actually knowing what the show was about, I envisioned that it revolved around one woman's descendants--and that every main character was one of the woman's children. To those women who sacrifice their time to the pro-life movement, every child in danger of abortion is as precious to them as the children bonded to them by blood or adoption. These babies are, in spirit, all their children.

The mothers who march each January...who volunteer at pregnancy centers where all the services are free...who lead local chapters of National Right to Life...who devote their time and talent to serving as webmasters and legislative advocates...who serve in public office standing firmly on a right-to-life platform...power the pro-life movement.

The pro-life movement has always been, and will always be, deeply indebted to mothers. It is a movement born of a mother's heart, to save those just a heartbeat away from premature death.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, Inc., is committed to promoting the dignity and value of human life from conception to natural death and to restoring legal protection for preborn children. Through legislation, political action, education and other legal means, we proclaim the truth about abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia.  For more information or to find out how you can become involved, please use this link.

Background:

Planned Parenthood is claiming that STDs went up in NJ and cases of breast and cervical cancer went up as well since their funding has been cut. They are using this as a reason that they should be funded.

The reality: I attended two Budget Committee hearings this spring where the NJ Commissioner of Health testified both times that STDS have gone up nationally and that although NJ's has gone up in recent years as has the national rate, it has one of the lowest increases in the nation. in addition, the Director of Planned Parenthood, Casey Olesko was quoted in a recent South Jersey news article admitting that there is "no causal link" between the spike in diseases and the closing of health centers in the state," yet she and her minions continue to make these unfounded claims. Planned Parenthood does not do mammograms, a fact they had to admit after being exposed for lying about it, but they continue to try to confuse people into believing that they do.

They are also using a biased poll just released from Rutgers Eagleton and the Health Care Quality Institute which they said shows 78% of NJ voters support federal and state funding of Planned Parenthood.

The reality: The poll used something called a "List2" for the poll. The methodology included contacting people by text which directed them to the poll on-line, which certainly doesn't seem to be a "random sampling."

The truth of the matter is that Planned Parenthood has proved time and time again they are a shameless organization that will do or say anything to protect their bottom line.

Please pass this post on to pro-life friends and family and urge them to take the suggested action above immediately! Time is of the essence.

Pro-Life Provisions in the Senate Health Care Reform Bill

Is New Health Care Bill Going to Be Enough?

by Jonathan Abbamonte
Population Research Institute

Last week, Senate Republicans unveiled their proposed health care reform draft bill to “repeal and replace Obamacare.” The Senate has made a number of significant changes to the bill passed by the House last month, but, despite earlier concerns from some pro-life advocates, has retained key provisions to defund Planned Parenthood and to block federal subsidies for health care plans that include coverage for abortion. The Senate bill has been titled the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 (BCRA).

The House bill, a.k.a. the American Health Care Act (AHCA), proposed a number of provisions viewed by many pro-life Americans as essential to health care reform. The AHCA proposed to defund Planned Parenthood for the period of one year and would prohibit the refundable tax credits, Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits, and small business tax credits from subsidizing health care plans that include coverage for elective abortion with federal tax dollars.

As the Senate bill currently stands, the bill would also defund Planned Parenthood and would prevent federal subsidies for the ACA small business and individual premium tax credits. The Senate bill, like the House bill, would redefine “qualified health plans” under the ACA to exclude plans that include coverage for elective abortion.

Pro-life advocates had been concerned that the Senate would leave the defund Planned Parenthood provision out of the bill in order to shore up support from moderate Republicans.

Planned Parenthood Desperately Sought Meeting with CA AG to Keep Blood Money for Abortions Flowing

By Cheryl Sullenger
Operation Rescue

Sacramento, CA - New documents obtained by Operation Rescue reveal Planned Parenthood's attempt to use the State of California as a tool to challenge any potential defunding in the current efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare.

Operation Rescue received the records from the Office of the California Attorney General as the result of a public records request.

On March 17, 2017, Celinda Vazquez, Vice President of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, sent an e-mail marked "High" importance to Attorney General Xavier Bacerra, that included a letter from Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California requesting a meeting to discuss "potential litigation in the event of defunding Planned Parenthood."

This Republican May Sabotage the Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood

By Steven Ertelt
Life News

If the Senate bill to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business does not get the 50 votes it needs to pass, here is one probation Republican you can thank.

Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine is one of a couple of pro-abortion Republicans in the Senate who is strenuously opposed to defunding Planned Parenthood. Here’s what she said over the weekend:
“It makes absolutely no sense to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood,” Collins told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on “This Week.”
“There are already longstanding restrictions on the use of federal funds for abortion, so this is not what this debate is about. And Planned Parenthood is an important provider of healthcare services, including family planning and cancer screenings for millions of Americans, particularly women,” she continued.
“I am optimistic we’ll prevail on that issue,” Collins said, referring to amending the legislation.
Never mind that Planned Parenthood doesn’t actually engage in very much legitimate women’s healthcare and has been caught refusing to provide prenatal care for women who want to carry their baby to term as opposed to having an abortion.

Collins has defended Planned Parenthood funding before.
“I don’t think it makes sense to have the defunding of Planned Parenthood linked to this issue at all,” said Sen. Susan Collins, a moderate Republican from Maine who voted against the repeal effort in 2015 because it included language defunding Planned Parenthood.

George Soros, Pro-Abortion Groups Back PA Merit Selection Bill for Supreme Court Justices

Don’t Let Lawmakers Take Away Your Right to Vote for Judges!

By Maria Gallagher
Legislative Director
PA Pro-Life Federation

A handful of state lawmakers are pushing a bill designed to take away the public’s sacred right to vote for appeals court judges in Pennsylvania.

House Bill 111, sponsored by state Representative Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster), would remove the voters’ right to cast ballots for the state Supreme Court, Superior Court, and Commonwealth Court.

Instead, a pro-abortion Governor could make the judicial appointments from a list created by a small, elite group of political appointees.
Early supporters of so-called “merit selection” of judges included the American Civil Liberties Union and the Women’s Law Project—two prominent pro-abortion groups which routinely challenge laws protecting preborn children and their mothers from the harm of abortion. It stands to reason that these groups believe they can stack the court with pro-abortion judges, under the false guise of “merit.”
Billionaire abortion-backer George Soros has been funding “merit selection” efforts throughout the country in an effort to place liberal judges on state courts.
Backers of the Pennsylvania legislation note that the PA General Assembly would have to pass a so-called merit selection plan in two consecutive sessions. Then, the issue would be placed on the statewide ballot for voters to decide.

But advocates for electing judges point out that voters should not be forced to head to the polls to defend a right they already have. Pro-election legislators—who vehemently oppose the plan—also note that untold sums of money could be poured into a campaign to convince voters they do not need to vote for appellate judges.

At a time when many constituents are calling for greater transparency from elected officials, selecting judges behind closed doors seems out of step with the will of a majority of voters. And changing the Pennsylvania Constitution to accommodate politically-appointed judges seems a radical response to any current challenges within our election process.

House Bill 111 has been reported out of the PA House Judiciary Committee and could come up for a vote on the House floor at any time.

Action Item: Please call your state representative and ask him or her to oppose House Bill 111 because you don’t want your right to vote for judges to be taken away. If you don’t know who your state representative is, or you need contact information please use this link.

Website: PA Pro-Life Federation

Blogger's comment:

Why would George Soros and pro-abortion groups support legislation
to take away the right of people to vote for their state supreme court justices?

Could it be that using 'merit selection' by a 'select panel' would place pro-abortion state supreme court justices to hand down decisions in cases involving unborn children, euthanasia of the elderly/disabled and assisted suicide?

When those who support and fund abortion become involved in any state legislation, beware of their evil agenda against the sanctity of life.

Nancy Pelosi Won’t Say Aborting a Baby With Beating Heart “Dishonors God”

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

CNS News put pro-abortion House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on the spot this week, asking her if aborting an unborn baby with a beating heart dishonors God.

Pelosi, a Democrat who claims to be a practicing Catholic, strongly supports abortion. Going against her faith, Pelosi repeatedly has voted to support the abortion chain Planned Parenthood and oppose regulations and limits to abortion.

Interestingly, Pelosi often brings up her faith to explain her support for other issues, such as the environment and welfare. Last week, she mentioned honoring God when she opposed a decision by the U.S. to pull out of the Paris Accord on climate change.

On Thursday during Pelosi’s press briefing, the conservative news outlet decided to find out if she would respond similarly when confronted with the reality of abortion. Perhaps unsurprisingly, she dodged the question.

Here’s Pelosi’s response:

CNSNews.com: “Three weeks ago you said we need to be ‘responsible stewards’ of ‘God’s creation.'”
Pelosi: Yes.
CNSNews.com: “And that it dishonors God to pull out of the Paris Accord.”
Pelosi: “Yes.”
CNSnews.com: “The Heartbeat Protection Act would prohibit aborting a baby with a heartbeat. Does it dishonor God to abort a baby with a beating heart?”
Pelosi did not answer the question directly but said: “I don’t—obviously you want to get into that discussion. What I say is: I completely respect a woman’s right to choose. I am a mother of five children, nine grandchildren. …
Pelosi continued: “I come from a very strong Italian Catholic family and many of my friends and family members do not share my view. But it is my view that it is up to a woman to have her own right to choose the size and timing of her family. God gives us a free will and holds us responsible and accountable for our actions.”
For many religious Americans, including many Democrats, unborn babies are part of God’s creation and deserve protection – but not to Pelosi. In 2013, she put her foot in her mouth during a press conference, calling late-term abortions “sacred ground

Doctors Insisted Their Son Would Die, But He’s Now a Healthy Preschooler

By Nancy Flanders
Live Action News

Jett Morris is alive today thanks to the dedication of his parents. Paul and Mhairi Morris refused to abort their son despite strong pressure from the medical staff to terminate at 20 weeks gestation after Mhairi’s water broke prematurely. Doctors told the parents that their preborn son would not survive. The parents were given five minutes to come to terms with the news and accept termination as a solution. Doctors even prepared to take Mhairi Morris to the operating room for the abortion procedure.

‘They didn’t see him as a child yet, they just called him a ‘non-viable foetus’. It was cold and I was devastated,” Mhairi Morris told The Mirror. “I was in the early pregnancy unit and no one from paediatrics came to talk to me about my other options. But I’d just had a 20-week scan and everything was perfect and finding out it was a boy made it very hard to accept a termination. The doctor said, ‘You have to have a termination because there’s nothing we can do’.”

When the doctor came back to get their decision a few minutes later, the parents told him that they would not be aborting their child. Mhairi Morris recalled to The Mirror that the doctor rolled his eyes and looked at his watch in response as if they were wasting time.

Then, after doctors discovered that Mhairi Morris had placenta previa, a situation in which the placenta is underneath the baby and can cause bleeding and infection, doctors again advised abortion. The parents were told Mhairi would go into labor within 48 hours and the baby would not survive. Still, they refused to abort.

Days went by, however, and Mhairi had not given birth as the doctors had predicted. She was sent home, but twelve days labor she was rushed to the hospital with bleeding. Unequipped to deal with a 25-week newborn, the hospital sent the couple 80 miles away to a better hospital. After arriving, the couple was again told that their son would die since his lungs hadn’t fully developed. There were also warned of the risk of brain damage if he did survive.

But baby Jett proved doctors wrong. Though he weighed just 1.4 pounds, had to deal with chronic lung disease and holes in his heart, and spent three months in the hospital, he overcame all the odds and has grown into a healthy preschooler.

“We have a happy outcome but I worry that other mothers could have had an abortion when their babies might have survived,” said Mhairi Morris. “I was given such a bleak outlook that I kept thinking ‘he’s not supposed to be healthy’ and was waiting for something to happen, but it never did.”
Not wanting other families facing a similar situation to have to resort to using the internet to search their options and prognosis, the Morris family hopes that by reading Jett’s story they will ignore any advice to terminate and give their babies a fighting chance.

Pro-Life Talk at Google HQ Was So Good the Video is Going Viral

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

Pro-life speaker Stephanie Gray is making a big impact after giving a pro-life talk at Google’s headquarters this spring. The multi-billion dollar online company posted Gray’s talk, “Abortion: From Controversy to Civility,” on its Talks at Google series Monday on YouTube.

In the past few days, almost 10,000 people have watched her speech online (see below). In contrast, only about 1,200 people watched a Talks at Google video of Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards, which was published in March.

Gray, a young pro-life advocate from Canada, travels across the world to speak about abortion and the value of the unborn child. An experienced debater and the co-founder of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, Gray uses personal stories and the Socratic method to delve deep into the abortion issue.

Gray’s talk is an hour long but well worth the time. She is an eloquent and engaging speaker who challenges her audience to ask questions and examine the issue carefully.

Google describes it this way:

This talk draws on her experiences of traveling across the world and dialoguing with college students, hearing personal stories of poverty and sexual abuse, and sitting down for coffee to have friendly conversation with debate opponents; it reflects on the United Nations’ policies on human rights and examines the insights of psychiatrist and Holocaust-survivor Dr. Viktor Frankl.
She began by asking the question, “What inspires you?” Gray said she has asked it to thousands of people across the world, and she always follows up with a second question, “Why?” Consistently, she said people’s answers point to three values.
“They’re inspiring because they put others ahead of themselves, because they had perspective, and because they did the right thing, even when it was hard,” Gray said.
She related those treasured values to unborn babies and abortion. The Catholic News Agency reports more:

She then addressed the question of the fetus’ dependence, arguing that the fetus’ greater dependent status as a weaker entity than a baby entitles it to greater, not less, protection. She related this to the story of a friend’s husband who, faced with the choice between rescuing a mother or her baby first from the roof of a sinking car, made the “obvious” choice to take the baby.

“Since you believe that we should prioritize weaker and more vulnerable people ahead of stronger people, then shouldn’t we actually prioritize the needs of the pre-born child?” she said.

Kansas Crisis Pregnancy Center Draws Clients, Fury from Planned Parenthood Next Door

God keeps reminding me: One life at a time, one life at a time

Advice & Aid serves women with free, life-saving help next door
to a Planned Parenthood that only provides abortions

It’s been over a month since a Kansas City radio station buckled under pressure from Planned Parenthood and yanked a local pregnancy center’s paid ads from off the air.

The pregnancy center, Advice & Aid—which runs one location directly across a parking lot from Planned Parenthood in a Kansas City suburb—is still waiting for the radio station to pay back over $1,000 it spent up front before the station pulled the ads.

Scheduled to run over 300 times on weekends over a six-week period, the ad read:

Feeling scared? Depressed? Vulnerable? Is pregnancy making you feel that life is over? Advice and Aid Pregnancy Centers will help you regardless of your struggle. You have access to a 24-hour hotline, pregnancy tests, sonograms, peer counseling and STI testing, all free of charge. Advice & Aid Pregnancy Centers is here to support you as you make your decision. Advice & Aid Pregnancy Centers—serving families facing pregnancy before, during and after with compassion.
That was too much for Planned Parenthood Great Plains and its communications director, Bonyen Lee-Gilmore, who lashed out at the station, 96.5 The Buzz, on social media after hearing the first weekend’s round of ads.

Though staff at the radio station who had visited Advice & Aid prior to signing the contract tried to uphold their end of the deal despite pressure from Planned Parenthood, the station caved to the abortion chain’s wishes just one weekend into the six-week deal.

“The two people from the radio station who came here and met with us—they fought for us because they had seen what we do here,” Ruth Tisdale, Advice & Aid’s executive director, said.
“They asked questions and we answered them truthfully. I’m very thankful for them, and it’s sad that it ended this way, but I’m at least thankful those two people know the truth.”
The station’s decision to pull the ad came just a month before the same Planned Parenthood office intimidated the Kansas City Royals into canceling a formal partnership with Kansas City-based Vitae Foundation—which helps pregnancy centers reach women facing unexpected pregnancies.

California Attorney General Vows to Reinstate Charges Against Center for Medical Progress Investigators

By Cassy Fiano
Live Action News

In March, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed 15 felony charges of invasion of privacy against Center for Medical Progress investigators David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt. Becerra accused them of using “manufactured identities and a fictitious bioresearch company to meet women’s healthcare providers and covertly record the private discussions they initiated.”

“The right to privacy is a cornerstone of California’s Constitution, and a right that is foundational in a free democratic society,” Becerra said. “We will not tolerate the criminal recording of confidential conversations.”

Then, last month, federal judge William Orrick (an Obama donor with connections to Planned Parenthood) threatened to hold Daleiden and Merritt in contempt after their attorneys released another video, despite an injunction having been filed against videos featuring the National Abortion Federation.
But this week, news broke that a state judge had ruled in favor of Daleiden and Merritt, granting “most of defendant Daleiden’s and Merritt’s demurrer motions, knocking out the 14 recording charges until the CA AG amends their complaint” and had “also denied the AG’s request for contempt sanctions against David’s defense counsel, and agreed Judge Orrick’s federal gag order in the civil lawsuit should not prevent defendants from using the videos in our defense.”
This evidently did not deter Becerra, who has responded to the news by vowing to reinstate the felony charges against Daleiden and Merritt anyway. Superior Court Judge Christopher Hite ruled that the charges were too vague and were “legally insufficient,” saying that the state “must specify each of the 14 recordings that were allegedly made without consent.” Becerra’s office released a statement saying that they had been given 10 days to specify the recordings each charge was based on.

CALL TO ACTION: Abortion is Not Health Care

Amy McInerny, Executive Director
Human Life Action

Your help is needed today. I understand you have many demands on your time, but this is urgent and you can make a positive difference in a minute.

The Senate is poised to consider the health care reform bill and now is the moment to let our members know that we expect life and liberty of conscience to be respected in any health care reform legislation.

Please contact your Senators now by clicking on the image below to urge them to extend the protections of the Hyde Amendment to every relevant provision of the bill.

Now is also our opportunity to remind our legislators to protect the conscience rights of those who do not wish to participate in, provide or pay for abortion.

Every Pro-Life Senator needs to hear from us right now! There is significant pressure being put on members of the Senate to compromise on protections that must be included in the health care law. Please encourage your Senators -- especially those who vote pro-life! Make sure they understand we want and demand health care without abortion funding. Let’s be sure the Senate hears our voice loud and clear!

Thank you for taking action in defense of life and liberty of conscience. Together we will be heard!
