Theologian Michael Novak: For Catholics, Hillary Is Simply ‘Unvotable’

Gradually, “We started to divide values from life, values from law, through many small compromises. And Catholics have a great responsibility in this." Michael Novak

By Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D.
Breitbart News

Leading conservative intellectual Michael Novak has defined Hillary Clinton as “unvotable” for Catholics in the upcoming presidential elections because she and her party oppose everything that Catholics hold most dear.

In an interview with the Italian online journal Tempi on the so-called “Catholic vote” in the 2016 elections, Novak admits that Trump is not the candidate of his dreams, but given the options, he stands head and shoulders above his opponent.

“It is clear that Trump is not exactly the candidate by whom a Catholic would want to be represented. But in politics you elect a president, not a saint, or a bishop or the Pope,” said Novak, the author of the international bestseller The Spirit of Democratic Capitalism and a point of reference for many Catholic thinkers.
Along with other Catholic intellectuals, Novak considers Hillary to be simply unvotable.
“She’s a woman who has lied, violated national laws and anyone else would end up in prison for these things,” he said. “As for me, I cannot vote for a candidate so favorable to abortion, to the secularist agenda in the moral sphere and such a ferocious adversary of religious freedom.”

Every Catholic Should Help This Guy

The stage is set in Texas.

And every Catholic in America should care what happens next.

Pro-life Republican (and Catholic) Greg Abbott will face off this November against abortion radical Wendy Davis in the Texas race for Governor.

Davis, as you may recall, won instant fame for filibustering a bill that would protect children in the womb after 20 weeks. She is Planned Parenthood’s dream candidate, which is why they have already helped her raise over $12 million!

The CV Candidate Fund endorsed Greg Abbott -- a staunch Catholic pro-life advocate, who has been wheelchair bound since he was 26 years old. Abbott is our guy, and we hope every Catholic across America will help us elect him -- and defeat Wendy Davis.

True to his Texas roots, Abbott is not afraid of a fight. Describing his work as the Attorney General, Abbott said: “I go into the office, I sue the federal government, and I go home.”
Given the Obama Administration’s increasing attacks on our freedom, Abbott's words are music to my ears.

Greg Abbott sued the federal government to stop Obamacare. He also joined with attorneys general in six other states in a lawsuit against the HHS mandate which forces businesses and religious organizations to pay for abortion pills, contraception, and sterilizations.

Abbott has also vowed to challenge a radical judge's recent ruling overturning Texas' marriage amendment. Abbott is a strong defender of family, faith, and freedom.

And if elected, he'll be the first Catholic to serve as Governor of Texas.
Texas is the pro-life state with the largest population. Abortion groups realize if they can change Texas from being a pro-life state, they'll set the pro-life movement back nationwide.

We can't let that happen.

Will you help CV send a message: Catholics support Greg Abbott!

This race will have national implications!  Use this link to help get Greg Abbott elected.

A Notre Dame Professor Urges the Pope to “Rethink Abortion”

by Carson Holloway

Writing at the website of the New York Times, Gary Gutting, a philosophy professor from the University of Notre Dame, invites Pope Francis to “rethink” the Church’s position on the question of abortion.  Needless to say, the rethinking is supposed to end not in a clearer and more persuasive presentation of the Church’s traditional teaching, but instead a weakening of it.  I’d like to note what I think are two weaknesses in Professor Gutting’s piece.

First, there is a disappointing partisanship to it.  Professor Gutting opens his argument by noting “the dogmatic intransigence that has long cast a pall over the religious life of many Roman Catholics.”  This might be true, but it is at best a partial truth.  One could just as easily characterize the exact same phenomenon as the “unswerving fidelity to its teaching that has long been an inspiration to many Catholics, and even a cause of admiration by certain non-Catholics.”  This is to say nothing of the possibility of also acknowledging the “dogmatic intransigence” of, say, the New York Times on this very issue.  The Times, after all, is not noted for its flexibility on what it thinks is a right to abortion.

You might think, and hope, that a professor at a Catholic university would start out with some predisposition in favor of the Church’s traditional teaching, especially on a matter of such great importance.  In Professor Gutting’s case, however, you would be disappointed.  If that expectation had to be dashed, then you might hope, as a last resort, that as a philosopher pure and simple Professor Gutting would begin with no prejudicial remarks on either side of the question.  You would be wrong here, too.

Pa. Dioceses Defeat Obamacare Abortion-Pill Mandate

Very big news out of Pittsburgh. Today federal district court Judge Arthur J. Schwab granted an injunction against the Obamacare abortion-pill and birth control mandate for the Dioceses of Pittsburgh and Erie and their associated organizations. Read: Pittsburgh and Erie PI Decision.

The injunction is the first one that has been thoroughly litigated for a Catholic non-profit organization, and only the second one so litigated for a non-profit entity of any kind (Geneva College, also in Pennsylvania, won a similar injunction earlier this year).

The injunction protects Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, the St. Martin Center, Inc. and Prince of Peace Center, Inc. of the Diocese of Erie (both affiliated with Catholic Charities), and Erie Catholic Preparatory School, from needing to acquire a health insurance plan that either provides or triggers the provision of abortifacients, contraception and sterilization.

Black Pro-Life Catholic Abandons Democrat Party

Hello, my name is Elbert Guillory.

Recently I made what many arereferring to as a 'bold decision' to switch my party affiliation to the Republican Party.

I wanted to take a moment to explain why I didthis and why I don't think it was a bold decision at all. It is the right decision -- not only for me -- but for all my brothers and sisters in the black community.

Like you, I'm proud to be a pro-life Catholic.
I also believe in protecting traditional marriage. And I think that big government policies are hurting the poor and middle class -- especially black Americans. These are the ideas at the core of the Republican Party, and it is why I am a Republican.

That's why I'm honored to serve as Chairman of Free at Last PAC. This important initiative will support strong conservative Black candidates running for higher office as well as strategically advocate for Republican candidates to Black Americans.
