New York Passes Extreme Abortion Measure: Will New Jersey be Next?

Marie Tasy, Executive Director
New Jersey Right to Life

Thank you to all who attended the March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Friday and the Rally for Life Tuesday in Trenton.

By now, you may have heard the sad news that both houses of the NY Legislature passed The Reproductive Health Act, which was signed into law last night by Governor Andrew Cuomo. I mentioned this legislation in my remarks at the Rally in Trenton.

The World Trade Center actually lit up pink to celebrate this bill legalizing abortions up to birth.  Read the story

Please pray for the babies and mothers whose lives are now threatened by this terribly egregious bill.

We will be watching to see if a similar bill will be introduced here in NJ. If that does happen, rest assured that NJRTL will vigorously fight it with every ounce of our being.

We will need every pro-life citizen and pro-life group to activate their grassroots networks to help us so please talk to your friends, family and neighbors about NY's law and how far it actually goes so we can be ready to mobilize opposition to such a measure in NJ.

Thank you and please pray for New York and pray that New Jersey does not follow down this inhumane and cruel path.

New Jersey Assembly Roll Call Vote on AR181/SR96 - Follow Up Action Needed

from Marie Tasy, Executive Director
New Jersey Right to Life

On Thursday, September 27, both houses of the NJ Legislature were scheduled to vote on AR181/SR96, a resolution that Memorializes the President and Congress to eliminate existing restrictions on abortion access and reject Supreme Court nominees who would impose new limits on reproductive freedom.

The Assembly did vote on the Resolution, however, the NJ Senate did not. We do not know if the NJ Senate may take it up at a later date.

This resolution by the NJ Legislature has no effect in law and does not require the Governor's signature. However, it is political grandstanding at its worst and displays a blatant abuse of power by the NJ Democratic party who now controls all three branches of NJ Government.

AR181 did not pass by a huge margin which is a testament to your phone calls and emails. There were 47 Yes Votes, 15 No Votes, and 18 either did not vote or abstained.

It's very important that our legislators who vote to protect the lives of mothers and babies from abortion extremism hear from us. It is also important that those who vote to promote abortion extremism hear from us as well.

Click here for Roll Call Vote on AR 181 to see how your 2 State Assembly Members Voted.

If your Assembly Members Voted No (This is considered a Pro-Life Vote), please thank them for voting to protect the lives of mothers and babies and against abortion extremism.

If your Assembly Members Voted Yes (This is considered a Radical Pro-Abortion Vote), please express your disappointment and outrage and inform them that you will take their vote into consideration when they are up for re-election next November.

If your Assembly Members Abstained or Did Not Vote, tell them you are happy they did not Vote for the Resolution, but ask them why they did not vote No.

Remember to find out how both your Assembly Members voted.

Find your 2 Assembly Members at the NJ Legislature page here.

You can search by municipality, alphabet or legislative district.
You can also call the Office of Legislative Services during normal business hours at 1 800 792 8630. You will need to provide your town and possibly your zip code.

Please don't forget to call and email your 2 Assembly Members as requested in this post.
