It’s clear that no amount of snow or bad weather can shake the commitment of the pro-life grassroots!

In recent days, much of the country experienced millions of billions of trillions of snowflakes, and more on top of that. In other words, a countless number of snowflakes. Each snowflake is different from the other snowflakes, never to be duplicated again. Once those snowflakes melt, that particular design, that special creation, will never be seen again.

In their uniqueness, human beings are like those snowflakes. Specially designed and uniquely created. There have been billions of human beings on this earth yet no two people are alike. You are one-of-a-kind. You are unique. Or as some dear friends at my church recently reminded us: you are YOU-nique.

President Obama Condemns Harvesting Organs in Africa

Just this afternoon a friend at National Right to Life passed along a column written by the ever-intelligent, ever-vigilant Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist. She is writing about a Q & A President Obama had with up and coming leaders in Africa in which the young people brought up various “atrocities” they wanted Obama to talk to various heads of state about so that these practices could be brought to an end.I don’t think it’s a state secret that President Obama’s ego is (shall we say) secure which may account for what seems to the outsider (that would be me) a stunning lack of awareness of context when says various truly remarkable things.

I’ve already used the phrase “you can’t make this stuff up” once today, but… Here’s Ms. Hemingway’s lead:

President Barack Obama told a group of young African leaders on Monday that harvesting organs from humans that are killed as part of an African ritual was “craziness” and a “cruel” tradition that needed to stop. He warned of dehumanizing marginal groups of humans and of the problems that arise when “you are not able to see someone else as a human being.”

WHEN FACT CHECKERS TAKE SIDES

Conspicuously missing from the Washington Post Fact Checker’s incomplete report and egregiously flawed conclusion was robust analysis of what the President actually pledged in his highly public executive order promising to extend the Hyde Amendment to the Affordable Care Act.Congresswoman Virginia Foxx and I were on absolute bedrock when we argued last week during the House floor debate in favor of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act that the President’s health care law authorized massive subsidies to assist millions of Americans to purchase private health plans that cover abortion on demand.

Readers expect—and deserve—much more from the Post.

In order to gain the votes of several pro-life holdout congressional democrats needed for passage of the Affordable Care Act, President Obama issued an executive order on March 24, 2010 that said: “the Act maintains current Hyde Amendment restrictions governing abortion policy and extends those restrictions to newly created health insurance exchanges.”

Legislation to Protect Unborn Babies Who Feel Pain?

Wisconsin has made huge strides in the protection of unborn babies and mothers in our state. In just 2013 alone, our new lifesaving laws gave mothers more information about their unborn children and helped save 465 babies, who now sleep peacefully in their beds. But we still have far more work to do.

That’s why so many Wisconsinites are concerned by Mary Burke’s recent statement in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel interview about her position on legislation that would protect unborn babies who are capable of feeling pain.

When asked what she would do with legislation that would “ban abortions after 20 weeks” (when unborn babies can feel pain), Burke responded, without a moment of hesitation,

“Yeah, I would veto it.”

12-Week “Fetus” or Baby?

Abortionists say that this is just a blob of tissue, a collection of cells. Some say it is like a piece of liver. In any case, it certainly isn’t a baby they say; at the very best it is only a blueprint for a baby. They tell women and girls who come in for an abortion not to worry about that.

Well, to me it doesn’t look anything like Kleenex or any other brand of tissue. It sure doesn’t look much like liver to me. And when was the last time you saw a blueprint turn into a building or anything else for that matter.

When I stop to think about it, I realize that I too am just a collection of cells.  I must have been one of those so called fetuses at one time, but my mom always said I was her baby.

Justice Department Asks Supreme Court Not to Extend Injunction Against Obama Mandate

When Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued a last-minute temporary injunction against enforcement of a component of ObamaCare that forces employers, including religious groups, to provide health coverage for drugs and procedures to which they have moral or religious objections, she gave the Obama administration until 10:00 this morning to respond.

Not surprisingly the Obama Justice Department easily beat the deadline and even less surprisingly insisted that the injunction should not be extended.

The stay, handed down New Year’s Eve, prevents Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged, a Colorado-based order of nuns, from facing fines until the legal issues surrounding the lawsuit are resolved. Sotomayor’s order also applies to other Roman Catholic nonprofit groups that use the same health plan, the Christian Brothers Employee Benefit Trust.

“We hope and pray that we will receive a favorable outcome in order to continue to serve the elderly of all faiths with the same community support and religious freedom that we have always appreciated, “ the Little Sisters said in a statement.

NOTORIOUS ABORTIONIST MAY HAVE OPENED ABORTION CLINIC IN PENNSYLVANIA

The headline was, to put it mildly, understated: “Pa. probing controversial abortion clinic in Phila.”

What may be going on in Pennsylvania, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Marie McCullough, is that one of the most notorious abortionists in all of North America– Steven Brigham—may have “opened a new clinic in Pennsylvania, even though the state has barred him from doing so, and even though abortion clinics are being scrutinized under a recently enacted state law.”

So who is Steven Brigham? In her story published Wednesday McCullough outlined his track record:

“Public records show that Brigham, 57, has a two-decade history of battling medical boards, regulators, the IRS, landlords, creditors, and, most recently, criminal prosecutors in Maryland.

“Not long after he got his Pennsylvania medical license, he gave it up in a 1992 agreement with the state. He later lost his medical privileges in New York, Florida, and California.

“He is now in hearings before an administrative judge in New Jersey, fighting for his last license. Three years ago, New Jersey suspended it when he was caught – after a critically injured patient went to the police – doing what he was disciplined for in the mid-1990s: starting late-term abortions in New Jersey and finishing them in another state.”

BELGIUM, WHERE DEATH BECOMES THE NORM, LIVING THE EXCEPTION

A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT TEN YEARS OF LEGAL EUTHANASIA IS A 

TOUCHSTONE FOR RADICALLY DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO SUFFERING

Recently I received an invitation to fly to Calgary in mid-November to attend the North American première of a film called “End Credits” at the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival. I was asked to lead a post-screening conversation with the audience and was given access to a copy of the film with English subtitles, which I viewed once. My access has since been blocked and my invitation to attend the festival withdrawn. The scenes from the film, which I describe below, are accurate to the best of my recollection.

“End Credits” is directed by Alexander Decommere and written by Marc Cosyns. It’s a documentary on the practice of euthanasia in Belgium 10 years after it was legalized in 2002. It follows the dying and death of two people, whom the film makers describe as follows: “Adelin, 83, and Eva, 34, two very different people, who are at the dawn of the end of their lives, ask for help with and care for a decent passing away.”

The most striking commonality shared by the old man, Adelin, and the young woman, Eva, is that they are profoundly lonely.

The People Demand An End To Abortions When Babies Can Feel Pain!

States across the nation have passed National Right to Life’s landmark law to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain, which medical evidence says occurs by at least 20 weeks in the womb.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill – the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act – in June, and pro-life senators will soon push for action in the Senate. Ten states have also passed the bill into law.

Even a city – the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, which has at least three practitioners doing late abortions – is taking up our legislation to ban abortions on babies who can feel pain.

It’s clear the people are demanding an end to this brutality. But what will Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid do? Will he allow a vote? Or will he try to stonewall the protection of these most vulnerable of unborn babies?

And what of his Senate Democratic colleagues? Several who are from strongly pro-life states are up for election next year. How will they vote? And will they have the moral courage to insist that Reid allow this compassionate bill to come up for a vote, or will they hide behind him if he tries to block it?

Democratic senators like Mary Landrieu and Mark Pryor are from states that have passed the ban – states where support for the ban on killing these babies runs high. Will they stand up for the babies?

National Right to Life is gearing up for the Senate fight. We will not let any senator off the hook – not for voting No, nor for hiding behind their “leadership” if it blocks the bill coming to a vote.

The greatest thing you could do at this moment is to help us publicize the bill and the actions of every U.S. senator as this fight begins. We’ll get the word out . . . to constituents . . . and to future voters . . . which senators support saving these vulnerable unborn babies and which ones don’t.
