Studies Show Preborn Children Can Form Memories in the Womb

By Nancy Flanders
Live Action News

The first memories you ever made were made when you were just a preborn baby in your mother’s womb. At least that’s what researchers from a variety of studies are concluding. At what point they are first capable of making memories is still up for debate, but with each study, the proof was found that these little humans are capable of creating memories.

A 2009 study published by Child Development looked at short-term memory in preborn children ages 30-38 weeks gestation. Nearly 100 pregnant women participated in the study, which tested how their preborn children responded to specific vibroacoustic stimulation – a low sound that makes a vibration.

The reactions were observed by performing an ultrasound. Researchers found that the first time the fetuses received the stimulation, they were startled. However, after repeated exposure to the stimulus – about 13 times, each thirty seconds apart – the fetuses stopped reacting.

This showed that they got used to the sound. Researchers call this habituation, which is something we all do. For example, we get used to the sounds around us such as the hum of a heater or air conditioner to the point that we don’t even notice it anymore.

“Habituation is a form of learning and a form of memory,” explained Dr. Jan Nijhuis, a co-author of the study and an obstetrician.” He and his colleagues found that 30-week-old fetuses had a memory of 10 minutes and with each round of stimulation they were able to become habituated to the sound faster. They also discovered that at 34 weeks, preborn children were able to “store information and retrieve it four weeks later.”

“So that shows that there is a sort of remembrance of 4 weeks,” he said.

A separate study by researchers at the University of Helsinki asked a group of pregnant women to play a track of the nonsense word “tatata” to their preborn child every so often. Another group of pregnant women acted as the control group and did not play the track at all.

After the babies were born, the researchers watched their brain activity while playing the track of “tatata” and found that those who had heard the sound while in the womb registered brain activity when they heard it after birth, while those who were not exposed to the sound in the womb did not register brain activity when they heard it after birth. Researchers concluded that a fetus’s memories last beyond birth.

BREAKING: U.S. House Votes to Ban Abortions After 20 Weeks

By Rebecca Downs
Live Action News

On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of Rep. Trent Franks Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would be an abortion ban after 20 weeks. Lawmakers passed the measure on a 237 to 189 vote.

Similar legislation passed the House in 2015, but the measure was then blocked in the U.S. Senate. Franks, who announced last month that the bill would go to the floor for a vote, said Democrats and Republicans should unite on a bill that provides a “bare minimum” protection for children.

“We can all agree a 20-week-old fetus who feels the torturous pain of being slashed, or cut in two, should not be killed,” Franks wrote.
Scientists have confirmed that children in the womb can feel pain at 20 weeks or earlier, and the pain they feel may be even more excruciating than pain experienced by adults because of the development of neurological mechanisms while in the womb.

Dr. Anthony Levatino, who committed over 1,200 abortions, describes the second trimester D&E abortion procedure below, during which a preborn child is dismembered limb from torso.

Congressman Ralph Abraham, who is also a doctor, described on the House floor why this abortion ban was necessary. He briefly explained how science knows children can feel pain in the womb:

The 20-week abortion ban is a step in the right direction, and the bill would save over 15,000 preborn lives annually. Numerous polls have shown that most Americans support a ban on late-term abortions, including a poll conducted by the pro-abortion Huffington Post. A Knights of Columbus/Marist poll reported that a majority of Americans also support heavily limiting abortions in generally.

Tragically, the United States is only one of seven nations — including North Korea and China — where elective abortions are permitted on demand past 20 weeks. The definition of “health” based on the legal standard of Doe v. Bolton includes even the physiological or emotional “wellbeing” of the mother, which essentially makes the definition so broad that restrictions on abortion are of no real effect.

Opponents of the bill claim abortions after 20 weeks are necessary when the mother’s life is at risk. However, it is misleading to claim that abortion is necessary in these scenarios, as modern medicine can be used to save both the mother’s and child’s life. Dr. Levatino explains below:

Abortion Activists: No, Unborn Babies Don’t Feel Pain in Dismemberment Abortions

By Father Frank Pavone
Life News

Of all the indefensible claims made by abortionists, there are some that apparently even they can’t bring themselves to take seriously — or argue in court.

Take, for example, the abortion lobby’s allegations against the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a law now being enforced in 15 states and with a national version set to come up for a vote in the House of Representatives next week.

The measure has been on the books since Nebraska passed the first such law in 2010, protecting from abortion any unborn babies old enough to feel the pain of having their arms and legs ripped from their bodies. Yet, while major abortion profiteers and their enablers verbalize opposition to the legislation year after year, they remain all talk and no lawsuit.
That’s because those who sit atop abortion’s carnage realize that there are some aspects of their trade that are so gruesome, so repulsive, that even they can’t spin them away with vague euphemisms. In their eyes, it’s better to keep such matters hidden in darkness.
That’s why the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, developed by the National Right to Life Committee, presents problems for the abortion industry — it makes facing the reality of abortion unavoidable. If the law were brought into court, two inescapable facts would come to the public’s attention: that aborted babies are people with arms, legs, and faces, not “clumps of cells”; and that these children suffer horrible pain when their appendages are wrenched from their bodies.

When pain-capable unborn child protection bills do come up in state legislatures, as they have in the last year when Ohio and Kentucky adopted them, abortion promoters oppose the measures with a couple of suppositions. First, they believe that 20-week-old unborn babies don’t really suffer when dismembered; second, that the Supreme Court would find any bill protecting any babies before the 24th week of life to be unconstitutional.
In other words, abortion promoters say that if you’re in doubt about whether children in the womb go through agony as their bodies are crushed and torn, err on the side of cruelty. And even if these boys and girls go through unspeakable pain, the abortion lobby believes that the Supreme Court will say that such suffering is simply the collateral damage of “reproductive freedom.”

The Secret Santa in our Midst

"Every unborn child and the mother that bears that child have the opportunity to transform history."

By Maria Gallagher, PA Pro-Life Federation
National Right to Life

Santa’s squad of invisible helpers is once again on the job this year. These unnamed philanthropists are zipping through department stores to pay the layaway bills of families who just cannot afford to make their final payments.

Others place gloves, scarves, and other winter weather gear around community Christmas trees where men and women without a home can find them. And those with culinary skills rivaling the hottest cooking show contestants are whipping up authentic holiday feasts for hundreds of guests who might otherwise go hungry.

The generosity of the American people comes into bright focus amid the extravagant light displays and tinsel-covered window displays each December. The giving is often anonymous, with no expectation of any lavishly-wrapped present–or even the possibility of an acknowledgment–in return. It is that special, merriment-in-the-air quality that makes Christmas such a joyous time.

But the spirit of the season lives on, long after the glistening ornaments and the cherished cherubim replicas have been packed away. It continues, day in and day out, among those who serve those who lack clothes, money–even a name to call their own.
Mother Teresa, perhaps the 20th century’s best-known advocate for those in need, once said, “Unborn children are among the poorest of the poor.” The preborn child is powerless, completely without resources, and hidden from view. And yet he or she is worth more than all the gifts the Magi could offer.

Can an Unborn Baby Really Send Stem Cells to Repair its Mother's Organs?

By SPUC

This popular meme suggests that an unborn baby can send its own stem cells to its mother to repair damaged organs. Memes are not always known for their scientific accuracy, so what's the truth behind this one?

Snopes.com, a website covering urban legends, internet rumours, e-mail forwards, and other stories of unknown or questionable origin, set out to investigate the claim this meme makes- that during pregnancy, if the mother suffers organ damage, the baby in the womb sends stem cells to repair the damaged organ.
Despite some mean-spirited comments about the use of the term "baby" and whether it knows it is helping its mother, the author concludes that "the science behind the claim is actually fairly solid".

A baby's cells can stay in the mother for 27 years
The transfer and incorporation of foetal stem cells into a mother's organs is referred to as fetomaternal microchimerism, and scientists have been generally aware of it for decades. A 1996 study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, for example, found that in humans, genetically distinct cells from a male fetus persisted in the mother's body as long as 27 years after birth.

But healing her organs?
A 2015 study published in the journal Circulation Research addressed the issue of fetal stem cells actually healing maternal organs. In this study, researchers tagged mice with a fluorescent protein that allowed the researchers to trace the flow of the fetus's stem cells from the mother's placenta into its heart while they induced cardiac injury to the mother. They found that fetal stem cells directly targeted the damaged cardiac cells and fully integrated themselves into the mother's heart.
