United Methodist Church Proposes New Position Statement Saying “We Support Abortion”

By Rev. Paul Stallworth
Life News

Due to action of The United Methodist Church’s 2012 General Conference and to negotiation of church leaders, the General Board of Church and Society held listening sessions on the Social Principles throughout the church. From them, Church and Society learned that the Social Principles need to become “more theologically grounded, more globally relevant, and more succinct” (according to a 04/12/18 press release).

Then the 2016 General Conference voted to continue Church and Society’s work in revising the Social Principles. On April 11, 2018, “The United Methodist Social Principles”/“Working Draft 1” was released. Church and Society aims to propose a complete revision of the Social Principles to the 2020 General Conference.

The Social Principle on Abortion: A Brief History

Since the birth of The United Methodist Church in 1968, the Social Principles’ paragraph on abortion has been contested. The 1972 paragraph stated: “We support the removal of abortion from the criminal code, placing it instead under laws relating to other procedures of standard medical practice. A decision concerning abortion should be made only after thorough and thoughtful consideration by the parties involved, with medical and pastoral counsel.”

Following the United States Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which knocked down state laws against abortion, United Methodism reflected Roe; its 1976 abortion paragraph included this sentence: “We support the legal option of abortion under proper medical procedures.”

Since 1976, many General Conferences have considered and debated petitions that would alter the church’s teaching on abortion. Some passed. Gradually, the paragraph became more skeptical, critical, and prohibitive of abortion. That is, the Social Principle became more protective of the unborn child and mother.

In 2018, while The United Methodist Church’s Social Principle on abortion (Paragraph 161K in the 2016 Book of Discipline) “support[s] the legal option of abortion,” it also contains many phrases and statements that are protective of the unborn and mother. That Social Principle has now been rewritten—thoroughly.

The Revised Title

The revision of this Social Principle is boldly announced in its title change: from “Abortion” to “Reproductive Health.” Why? “Abortion,” as a title, might be considered too controversial, harsh, specific. In contrast, “Reproductive Health” might be understood as more medical-clinical, gentle, and general.  Against this retitling, four objections can be raised.

NO, Marylanders Do Not Want An Abortion Amendment!

from Maryland March for Life

No, House Speaker Busch, we do not want an abortion amendment

Maryland house speaker, Michael Busch, announced that he will introduce legislation for an abortion amendment on the 2020 ballot. This amendment would effectively make so-called "abortion rights" constitutional in Maryland. Both the Maryland Catholic Conference and the Maryland Right-to-Life oppose such an amendment. As pro-life Marylanders, we need to make our voices heard by:

  • getting out and voting pro-life this November and encouraging family and friends to do the same.
  • getting involved with the Maryland March for Life.
Let's show our elective representatives that we do not believe that constitutionally protecting so-called "abortion rights" is good for women, babies, or families in Maryland.

No, House Speaker Busch, we do not want an abortion amendment!

Maryland March for Life advocates the peaceful demonstration on behalf of legislation in support of life issues and those that support pregnant women.

Back to School and the Sacredness of Life

By Maria Gallagher
National Right to Life

In cities and towns across the U.S., students are returning to school–or just about to. But in all the back to school reports on the local news, no mention will be made of all the students who are missing because of abortion.

It is estimated that as many as one in five pregnancies in the U.S. ends in abortion. Nearly one million American children are lost to abortion each year. It is a tragedy of epic proportions–yet all too often ignored by the mainstream media.

But back to school time can also be a time of tremendous hope. Many faith-based schools organize bus trips to the annual March for Life…host pro-life clubs on campus…and encourage students to spiritually adopt preborn babies as they pray for the little ones each day.

Those who are parents and grandparents can also use this time to instill in our offspring a great respect for the dignity and incalculable value of human life. We can make sure middle schoolers know the stages of life in the womb, and that high schoolers know the location of the nearest pro-life pregnancy resource center.

We can also use this time to educate ourselves about pro-life issues, turning to trusted pro-life organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation and National Right to Life, to find out the latest developments on the pro-life front. Education is power, and with our newfound knowledge we may just save a life–or change a mind.

In addition, we can recommit ourselves to working for an overturn of the tragic U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. Someday, the issue of abortion will return to the states, and we must be prepared to pass meaningful pro-life laws. Let us look forward to the day when Roe is just an unpleasant asterisk in student history books, and when all children have a real chance at life.

Yes, Sarah, There is a Difference Between Abortion Clinics and Crisis Pregnancy Centers, Just Not the Ones You Imagine

By Dave Andrusko
National Right to Life

Under the category of, “no kidding?” I offer you the following from the Mississippi Clarion Ledger: “Abortion Clinics and Crisis Pregnancy Centers Differ.”

Ok, to be fair that is the headline the Associated Press gave to the story when it gave Sarah Fowler’s account much wider circulation. The original headline read “Abortion clinic vs. crisis pregnancy center: What’s the difference?”.

Either way, you can’t come away from Fowler’s account without thinking CPCs are horrible, intending only to make pregnant women feel horrible about themselves. Not only that they are duplicitous and deceptive.

As contrasted with “Abortion providers and clinics such as Planned Parenthood” which are, in Fowler’s glowing account, “staffed by doctors, nurses and other professionally trained staff. Jackson [Mississippi] Women’s Health Center and Planned Parenthood in Hattiesburg offer a range of health care options including pap smears, annual exams, cancer and STI screenings and access to contraception.”

Get it? All those CPCs are good for is attempting to save the lives of babies by helping women find a better solution as composed to those full-service Planned Parenthood clinics which provide “medically accurate information that is evidence-based.”

I mean if you are going to write a hatchet job, couldn’t you at least do a little research that might challenge your preconceived ideas?

Could you, for example, talk with women and girls who are eternally grateful they were give a real alternative to killing their babies?

And what does this mean? “Entering 2018 just a few thousand contacts shy of 3 million since answering its first call in 2003, Heartbeat International’s 24-7, 365 pregnancy helpline Option Line responded to well over 350,000 women facing an unexpected or difficult pregnancy in 2017,” according to Jennifer Minor.

No doubt Fowler’s response would be that it’s bad enough that there is just one abortion clinic in Mississippi while “There are more than 30 organizations that identify along the lines of a crisis pregnancy center.” Worse yet, nationwide there are probably four times as many CPCs (Pregnancy Help Centers) as there are abortion clinics. Of course to “journalists” such as Fowler, that would be just further evidence of CPCs cancer-like growth.

Or maybe just one story of how a woman’s future life was not ruined because she chose not to take the life of her baby. How about that? They are very, very easy to find.

Just the latest example (of countless examples) of how the Abortion Industry and its media allies fear and loathe any organization whose first objective is to find win-win solutions for moms and babies.

While LeBron James and Don Lemon dis POTUS Trump, They Ignore the BIGGEST Killer of Black People

from National Sentinel

Cognitive Dissonance: In recent days NBA star LeBron James appeared on host Don Lemon’s little-watched CNN program to complain about how POTUS Donald Trump is “dividing” America and fostering racism.

Prominent black figures making such baseless claims about the president is nothing new.

During the interview, however, James and Lemon also discussed the former’s opening of a new school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, for “at risk” black youths. It’s good that James is giving back to his community. Charity, for the most part, is admirable.

But if he’s really concerned about protecting blacks who are ‘at risk,’ he should focus more on combatting the No. 1 killer of blacks by far: Abortion.

CLOSED! After a 67% Drop

Shawn CarneyPresident/CEO
40 Days for Life

I have been to Fort Wayne many times, and if abortion can survive there, it can survive anywhere.

Today, Fort Wayne is abortion-free after seeing the last abortion location close there.

Planned Parenthood in Fort Wayne, Indiana has gone out of business after two 40 Days for Life vigils took place in front of it.

Worldwide, 96 abortion facilities have closed their doors following a 40 Days for Life campaign.

In addition to those 96, more than a dozen abortion referral centers have ceased operations after a 40 Days for Life campaign, including this new Fort Wayne closure.

This isn't the community's first abortion business to close. The Fort Wayne Women's Health Organization abortion center closed after nine 40 Days for Life campaigns.

Planned Parenthood blamed the closure on "intimidation" from local pro-lifers. Of course, there's no intimidation at a 40 Days for Life campaign.

Allen County Right to Life, which hosts 40 Days for Life campaigns in Fort Wayne, noted a more likely explanation for the closure: client visits to the Planned Parenthood facility had dropped by 67 percent in the last decade.

Even though Fort Wayne is now abortion-free, participants aren't calling it quits. They will continue to host a peaceful 40 Days for Life vigil in the community to make sure every woman at risk of leaving town for an abortion knows that help is available.

Do you want your city to be abortion-free?

In less than a month, the next 40 Days for Life campaign starts--running from September 26 to November 4.

Get ready by finding the location nearest you and sign up now to pray and fast for an end to abortion!

Jeremiah Thomas has finished the last lap of the race of faith." A fathers words.

The battle is over and Christ has won

from John Pisciotta, Director
Pro-Life Waco

Jeremiah Thomas bravely and faithfully battled for his teenage life and for the lives of precious babies in the womb. See below the words of Rusty Thomas, Director of Operation Save America. Let us pray for Rusty and Kendra, Jeremiah's extended family, and all who have been and will be touched by the life of Jeremiah Thomas.

Jeremiah’s months battling cancer, and evangelizing to the end, were covered broadly in the press, including USA Today. The Make a Wish Foundation arrange a for a call to Jeremiah from Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Jeremiah's wish express to Governor Abbott was that Texas would pass a law abolishing abortion.

Since abortion restarted in Waco at Christmas of 2017, Jeremiah was regularly out at Planned Parenthood evangelizing and counseling abortion-minded moms to choose life for their babies. One of the most dynamic sights was the athletic Jeremiah standing on top of the family van counseling for life over PP's ugly 8-ft fence.

We will miss you Jeremiah and we will continue to be inspired by you.

A Supreme Battle for Life

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

A supreme battle is underway for control of the U.S. Supreme Court. Next week, hearings begin for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Despite the judge's stellar qualifications, pro-abortion forces are working overtime in an effort to derail his nomination.

Kavanaugh has indicated he would not make laws from the bench, but would simply interpret the Constitution the way it is written. The fact is, the word "abortion" appears nowhere in the nation's founding document. The idea that abortion is a "Constitutional right" is a fiction composed by Supreme Court justices who wanted to establish an activist court.

Kavanaugh not only deserves a fair hearing--he deserves confirmation. While Pennsylvania's U.S. Senator Pat Toomey supports his nomination--and for good reason--Senator Bob Casey opposed him even before his name was uttered by the President.

Pro-abortion politics have no place in the Supreme Court nomination process. It is only because abortion advocates cannot get their way in all 50 state legislatures that they try to stack the High Court in their favor. Here's hoping wisdom and fairness will reign supreme at the country's highest court--not only this year but in the decades to come.

Pregnant Women Have a Place to Call Home, Thanks to One Incredible Family

“It’s kind of scary to think what would have happened. The giving just never stops at this house it seems like.”

By Nancy Flanders
Live Action News

In 1997, Americans eagerly awaited the arrival of Kenny and Bobbi McCaughey’s septuplets. The couple had one daughter when they underwent ovulation-stimulating treatments for infertility, and learned they were pregnant with seven babies. While they faced criticism for declining selective reduction abortion, they also received an enormous outpouring of support, including the gift of a seven-bedroom home in the town of Carlisle, given to them by local builders. Now, that home is taking on new life to help young mothers in need.

The McCaughey children, who are the world’s first surviving septuplets, and their older sister, have grown up and gone off to college and the military, leaving the McCaugheys with the issue of what to do with their home.

“The house has been a huge blessing in our lives for the past 20 years,” Kenny McCaughey told local CBS news. “We just don’t need this much space.”
And because they now feel it is too large for just the two of them, they partnered with Ruth Harbor, a Des Moines, Iowa, non-profit that provides housing and support to young women facing unplanned pregnancies.

READ: For women facing unplanned pregnancies, maternity homes offer hope

The McCaugheys knew they wanted to downsize, but were unsure who would be a good fit for the 5,500 square foot house that served them so well for 20 years. While at church, they happened to meet officials from Ruth Harbor, who mentioned that they had been searching for a new home in order to help pregnant mothers, including after birth.

“As our kids are leaving the nest, it seems to be the right time to start a new chapter,” Bobbi McCaughey said in a statement. “We have been blessed to receive such a wonderful gift, and nothing would please us more than the idea of our home being used as a place of refuge to others in need.”
Ruth Harbor took possession of the home in April, and had their mother-child housing program up and running in the summer. It came with a 12-person dining table as part of the deal.
“Not only will the Carlisle home provide more beds and enable us to serve more women and babies, it will allow us to dedicate each home to the specific needs and training that are unique to each program,” said Mark McDougal, executive director of Ruth Harbor.
“We anticipate that the McCaugheys have built many memories in their home. It seems wonderful that new and continuing memories will be built by more young moms going forward – for themselves and their children – when they have engaged in the Ruth Harbor program.”

Heather Holmes was born just one day after the septuplets, and last year, she discovered she was pregnant. She wasn’t able to live with her parents, and was sleeping on her sister’s couch when Ruth Harbor became her home.

“It’s kind of scary to think what would have happened,” she told local CBS news. “The giving just never stops at this house it seems like.”

Official Admits High School Students Dissected the Brains of Aborted Babies

Dr. Paul Roth

Just when you think things can't get any worse, along comes an article that shakes you to the core. If you thought we had reached the end of the slippery slope, you're mistaken.

Below is an article I found this morning on Twitter from LifeNews.com which tells of high school students at a summer camp, dissecting the brains of aborted babies! Yes, you read that correctly.

May God have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Fall 2018 40 Days for Life Campaign Call out and Beyond

Pro-lifers across the United States and the world!

This is a called to action as we embark on another 40 Days for Life Campaign leading into the November 2018 midterm elections. The campaign will run from Wednesday September 26th to November 4th.

The sad reality is nearly 12,000 babies are killed in Philadelphia every year. A majority of them are black.

Many of you who will read this have participated in a previous campaign or two. Then, we have those that are uncertain of taking the leap of faith.

Take for example how Dr. Monique Ruberu, author of Rising with Roses, who saw praying in front of the modern day concentration camps to control the human population and eliminate poverty (an idea championed by Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger), was the most challenging thing she has ever done. She first took part in the prayer vigils on a cold February morning outside of the Philadelphia Women's Center, when she met a young 24 year old millennial who invited her to come on out and join the weekly regulars who were arriving one by one.

"Watching the women enter into the building knowing the possible outcome of that choice just sends a dagger through my heart... In order to be present you must have complete faith in our amazing Father God... we must know that He can change hearts, He can use our sacrifice.."

Monique, along with Pat Stanton, would later introduce the 40 Days Campaign to Planned Parenthood in Center City Philadelphia the fall of 2014 with the help of Pat Stanton. It wasn't until a year ago that the campaign would be introduced to 777 Appletree Street. She noticed some changes. Most of it has to do with the Sidewalk Servant Program, which is a pro-life outreach program that happens between the Lent and Fall 40 days campaigns.

"There have been changes over my time there... the sidewalk escorts have become bolder... the prayer warriors have become kinder... the percentage of African American babies being let to death continues to be high... but the willingness of people to come out and pray has increased.. we used to have coverage on Wednesday at Planned parenthood, and Saturday at 777. Every third Saturday we would have coverage at Planned parenthood as well...  Although we have definitely not met the goal of 100% coverage for every hour they are open, we are covering more hours and days than ever before.."

Many of the successes came from groups like the Culture Project, Generation Life,  Regina Academies, local high school and even college students, and some of the many seasoned pro-lifers from different parishes across the greater area. God provided in this life-changing endeavor.

For Anita Flynn, coordinator of the NE Philadelphia vigil, she sees it as a challenge, but she places her confidence in pro-lifers. This year she will be spearheading her 6th vigil in 3 years at Comly Rd in Northeast Philadelphia.

"We continue to remain steadfast and reach  across various avenues to try to increase interest in the importance of 40 Days."

For those who are interested in learning more, please attend an event on Tuesday September 18th.  More info is here: http://catholicphilly.com/2018/08/news/events/pro-life-presentation-with-dr-monique-ruberu/

It is vital that we continue to pray at abortion clinics as long as that atrocity is going on in our midst.  The prayer works.  Lives have been saved.  We are called to be there.

Senate Fails to Pass Amendment to Defund Planned Parenthood

Rand Paul Blasts Obstructionists

The U.S. Senate voted 45-48 Thursday on Sen. Rand Paul’s latest amendment to defund Planned Parenthood, coming up short of the 60 needed to overcome current filibuster rules and pass.

The Kentucky Republican introduced an amendment last week to the Senate appropriations package funding the Departments of Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education; which would forbid money appropriated for those departments from directly or indirectly going to any entity that performs or finances most abortions.

Despite the GOP holding its congressional majorities and winning the White House in 2016 by (among other issues) promising to defund the abortion giant, legislation to do so has stalled thus far and budgets have continued to subsidize Planned Parenthood. Yet GOP leaders such as Appropriations Committee Chair Sen. Richard Shelby complained that Paul’s amendment was a “spoiler” that could prevent the broader funding bill from passing.

Before Paul was able to add his proposal to the “amendment tree’s” limited slots, Senate GOP leaders filled the last slot with a placeholder amendment that added a single dollar to one program’s funding, the Washington Examiner reports. “Its only purpose was to block Paul,” an unnamed Senate insider told the Examiner.

Paul excoriated his party's leadership on the Senate floor over the move, accusing them of "just giv[ing] lip service to pro-life issues” and being “more concerned” with “bloated government spending than saving lives.” His protest was successful in getting the vote and putting senators on the record, though the amendment ultimately failed to pass.

Big-spending Republicans fear that blocking funding for Planned Parenthood would derail their plans to greatly expand the welfare-warfare state.

While the House of Representatives has passed several pro-life bills, only the one letting states defund Planned Parenthood ever became law. The 20-week abortion ban and Obamacare repeal/Planned Parenthood defunding ultimately died in the Senate, where pro-abortion GOP Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski have the power to block simple-majority votes, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is unwilling to revise the legislative filibuster.

President Donald Trump, who has pursued a robust pro-life agenda, says electing more Republican senators this fall is the key to passing pro-life legislation.
