766 Babies in Canada Are Born Alive After Failed Abortions and Left to Die

Killing a child in the womb and removing the pieces is abortion. This forced delivery without intent to save falls more to the
line of infanticide.

In August 2018, pro-life blogger Patricia Maloney reported that the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) recorded 766 late-term, live-birth abortions over a five-year period.

In other words, pregnancies were ended late enough in pregnancy that the child survived for some amount of time outside the womb but died shortly thereafter in the absence of attempts at life-saving medical care. This isn’t the first time cases like these have been reported.

As Maloney herself notes, there is much speculation about why and how these deaths happen. The sources listed on her blog give us numbers but they don’t tell us how or why these children died after a failed abortion, and why this is still considered an abortion rather than a stillbirth or murder.

But ignoring the issue because of the gray areas will never gain us more clarity. We have a pretty terrible reporting system around abortion. Hospitals report their abortion-related data, but they perform only about a quarter of the approximately 100,000 abortions that occur annually in Canada. Private clinics take care of the remaining 75%, but they are not required to report their data on anything from gestational age at the time of abortion to complications that followed.

To be clear, most late-term abortions are performed in hospitals, and so recorded. Clinics generally do not perform abortions after the first trimester. It is also likely that many of these children suffered from diseases or abnormalities that resulted in a quick death after birth, or their hearts were injected with something intended to kill them prior to birth which took effect shortly after.

However, until we know for sure with proper records, these vague and horrifying numbers will have no context and there will be no criminal consequences for potentially real criminal acts.

Our Criminal Code is very clear that pre-born children are not considered persons under the law until they have proceeded, in a living state, from the body of the mother. At this point, after exiting the ‘magical birth canal’ as one viral video calls it, the child has full human rights. The death of a child that proceeded in a living state from its mother may be called a failed abortion, but the rights conferred on that child at birth should stand.

So should these deaths be called abortions? Is medically-induced delivery of a baby prior to its due date with the intention of letting it die abortion? We would argue it is not, in terms of statistics. Killing a child in the womb and removing the pieces is abortion. This forced delivery without intent to save falls more to the line of infanticide.

Miracle Baby Rescued Alive After Being Dumped in Storm Drain and Left to Die

By Steven Ertelt
Life News

Infanticide is a major problem across the world as abortion has decreased respect for human life. Fortunately in a case out of South Africa, a baby who otherwise would have been left to die was saved.

According to news reports, the baby was left in a drain — but a woman who was out for a walk early in the morning discovered the child. Police say the baby could have only been placed their deliberately — making it clear that the baby’s mother or parents did not want the child and hoped the baby would die.

After officials arrived at the scene they determine the baby need a treatment for hypothermia and respiratory problems.

Here is more on this amazing story and the happy ending for this little child:

This newborn baby has been hailed a ‘miracle’ after surviving being abandoned naked six feet underground in a freezing storm water drain in the midst of a colony of stinging red ants.

Charmaine Keevy, 63, was out for an early morning walk with her sausage dog Georgie in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, when it suddenly started barking loudly at a drain duct in the gutter.

The catering company boss said she heard a noise and thought it was a cat mewing but when she got on her hands and knees realised she could hear a baby crying from deep inside the drain.

Charmaine began frantically waving down passing cars for help until motorist Cornie Viljoen, 60, pulled over. And after listening for himself they both agreed they could definitely hear a baby sobbing.

He grabbed a steel bar from the boot of his car and with Charmaine’s help the pair of them managed to lever the heavy concrete slab covering the storm water drain free so they could look inside.

Charmaine who found the baby on her morning walk said:
’I honestly believe I was meant to find that baby by God as I usually take a different route on my dog walk but for some reason went another way.
‘I cannot help but feel that there is some sort of a plan and a purpose for that little girls’ life – it is a miracle without a doubt.'
The baby weighed in at 3.09kg and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Crimes Unit of the South African Police Service have been called in to try and trace the mother.

Hospital staff have called her Grace April and she has become a celebrity on the baby ward. Social worker Pamela Rubushe who is caring for the baby and will find her a place of safety estimated she had been lying abandoned for a couple of hours and was near to hypothermia and was found just in time.

Nurse Stunned as Baby Survived Abortion: His ‘Heart was Beating Strongly’

By Anna Reynolds
Live Action News

Rita was a young, student nurse working in a London hospital in the 1970s. She describes herself as an “Irish country girl” who did not know what she would be expected to do in her training. When she was required to care for a woman undergoing an abortion, she was confused and unprepared. Rita describes vividly the first time she witnessed an abortion:

One case which is indelible in my mind was that of a married woman, who was admitted for a termination of pregnancy. She had two healthy children and was now pregnant with baby number three. She did not want any more children. I was asked to do the medicine round that morning and I gave her the prostaglandin tabs prescribed.

Hours later she requested a bed pan and then passed a live foetus approximately the size of the palm of my hand. It certainly was a human being. It had limbs, a head, eyes and a heart that was beating strongly and visibly. The mother saw the contents of the bed pan as did I. The image of that little baby has never left my mind.

Decades later, Rita is sharing her story as part of the #MyAbortionStory campaign in Ireland. As Ireland prepares to vote on a referendum that would pave the way to legalizing abortion on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy, Rita and other medical professionals are speaking out about what legal abortion means for people who work in health care.

Despite abortion activists’ claims of conscience protections for pro-life medical professionals if abortion is legalized, the reality of legal abortion is that doctors and nurses are thrust into situations in which a child’s life is ended violently and they cannot intervene to care for the child.

Reflecting on the first time she cared for a woman during an abortion, Rita says, “Instantly my inadequacies became very real… what to say, what to do with this little human being to be disposed of in the bed pan. My short training did not prepare me for this.” Rita is far from alone in her experience, which prompted the pro-life group Save the 8th to launch the #MyAbortionStory campaign, featuring the stories of medical professionals who, like Rita, witnessed or were coerced to participate in abortions.

Caren Ní hAllacháin’s story has been one of the most shocking stories publicized by the campaign thus far. Caren is a nurse who witnessed a baby who survived an abortion and was left to die. Save the 8th released a video of Caren’s story that has received attention on social media.

Less than two weeks after the video’s release, it has been viewed more than 200,000 times. Niamh Uí Bhriain of Save the 8th pointed out that the views and shares of the video are “almost all organic and Irish.”

In a time when international abortion groups are putting money into the campaign to legalize abortion in Ireland, Save the 8th’s video is reaching fellow Irish voters with the truth. Niamh said of the comments on the Facebook video,

“You can see lots of people tagging friends to watch, and this is the sort of engagement that is really changing hearts and minds.”
