Newborn Baby Tossed in Courtyard Miraculously Survives

The story that appears today in the Daily Mail understandably includes the cautionary note, “WARNING: DISTURBING CONTENT.”

It is a very disturbing account of an abandoned baby who was found “naked at a rubbish-filled courtyard with her umbilical cord still attached in China.”

However there is very good news. Although Kan Kan News reported she suffered a fractured skull as well as bleeding inside the skull, her condition has stabilized.

A police statement said the baby “was first discovered by residents of Xiade Village in Fuzhou City’s Mawei District in East China’s Fujian Province,“ Kan Kan News added.

However the Daily Mail reports that police have not confirmed claims by some web users that the baby had been thrown into the courtyard over a 6 ½ foot wall.

Once informed by villagers, police contacted the nearby Fuzhou Mawei Hospital, whose paramedics took the girl in for initial treatment. Kan Kan News reported that the little girl was then transferred to the best hospital in Fuzhou where the diagnosis of a fractured skull and bleeding within the skull was made.

The Daily Mail account concludes

A doctor from the hospital told Kan Kan News that when the baby was sent to them, her limbs were twitching and there were bruises around her mouth. She also suffered injuries in her lung and heart.

The doctor said after treatment, the baby’s condition had stabilized.

According to the report, many people have gone to the hospital to visit the baby after seeing pictures and footage of her on social media.

Apparently, several families have come forward hoping to adopt the girl as their own.

Police have asked members of the public to contact them with any information regarding the girl’s parents, who could face charges for abandoning the child.

Women’s Rights Without Frontiers will carry an 8-foot banner to “End Gendercide” – the sex-selective abortion of baby girls — in China, at the March for Life today in Washington, D.C.

“The United States has about one million abortions a year,” Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, stated. “For every abortion we have in the United States, China as 23. China has an incomprehensible 23 million abortions a year – many of them forced, mostly of baby girls. The greatest hemorrhage of human life in the world today is flowing out of China.”

Women are still pressured to abort or abandon baby girls, even under China’s Two-Child Policy. For example, it was reported that a Chinese woman from Anhui Province died after her husband pressured her into aborting four pregnancies in a year, because he wanted a son. The couple already had a four-year-old daughter.

After the Two-Child Policy was instituted on January 1, 2016, they decided to have a second child, which the husband determined would be a boy. When the woman became ill because of the repeated abortions, her husband divorced her. She used the divorce settlement money (approximately U.S. $2500) to seek hospital treatment, but then died. Her husband did not visit her in the hospital and was planning on marrying another woman at the time of the report.

Littlejohn continued, “My heart breaks for this woman, pressured into four abortions by her husband, then left to die from the trauma – all because he wanted a son! Brutal son preference remains in China, and as I had predicted, the sex-selective abortion of baby girls continues under the Two-Child Policy. Second daughters are still aborted or abandoned.”

According to one U.N. estimate, up to 200 million women are missing in the world today because of sex-selective abortion. This gendercide has created a gender imbalance in China, where there are an estimated 37 million more males living than females. This gender imbalance is in turn driving human trafficking and sexual slavery, within China and from the surrounding countries.

“This should be an issue about which pro-life and pro-choice can agree,” Littlejohn stated. “No one supports forced abortion, because it’s not a choice. And what serious women’s rights advocate can defend the sex-selective abortion of girls?”

China: Infant Who Survived an Abortion at 35 Weeks Saved

News out of China tells the story of a tiny baby who survived an abortion.

China has some of the worst human rights abuses in the world, particularly when it comes to abortion. One of only a handful of countries that allows late-term abortion, population control policies have caused Chinese women to be subjected to forced abortions, sterilization, and other abuses. 

This is largely due to China’s restrictive One-Child Policy, which was recently amended to allow for two children — yet couples still have to first obtain a permit. 

If denied, they risk fines, losing their jobs, and literally being dragged off the streets and forced into abortion. Gendercide is prevalent in China, and it’s estimated that over 23 million preborn babies are aborted every year in the country.

With that many abortions, it’s inevitable that some of these babies would survive. But what happens when they do? In at least one instance, the baby was placed inside a plastic bag, with the intention of suffocating the baby to death. But instead, the baby was rescued, and survived.

Lili, an 18-year-old teenager, found out she was pregnant, and kept the baby a secret until she was 35 weeks along. At that point, her brother took her for an abortion, performed by midwife Liang Xiaohua.

Chinese Woman Dies After Fourth Coerced, Sex-Selective Abortion

Though China’s oppressive One-Child Policy has been relaxed to a (no less oppressive) Two-Child Policy, the pressure to abort female children remains high.

In 2015, Women’s Rights Without Frontiers president Reggie Littlejohn noted that this would be the case:

A two-child policy will not end any of the human rights abuses caused by the One Child Policy, including forced abortion, involuntary sterilization or the sex-selective abortion of baby girls. Nor will it “dismantle” the extensive infrastructure of coercion necessary to implement population control in China.

Case in point: The South China Morning Post reports this week that a mother has died after being coerced to abort four baby girls because her husband wanted their second child to be a son. The couple already has one living daughter, who is four years old, and decided to have a second child following the Chinese government’s updated family planning policy.

After the woman became ill as a result of multiple abortions, her husband chose to divorce her. The woman received the equivalent of $2500 USD in the divorce settlement and sought treatment for her illnesses at a hospital, but did not survive. The report does not state how long the woman was hospitalized before she died.

The Post states that the woman “came from a county near Wuhu in Anhui province,” and had learned of each baby’s sex “through X-rays.” The woman’s ex-husband is reportedly already planning to marry another woman.

Why International Adoptions by Americans Have Hit a 35-Year Low

In 2004, Americans adopted 22,884 children from foreign countries—an all-time high.

Twelve years later, that number has dropped to 5,648 children—the lowest level in 35 years, according to recently released statistics from the US State Department on fiscal year 2015 (Oct. 1, 2014 to Sept. 30, 2015).

The sharp decline isn’t limited to the United States; global adoptions to the top 24 receiving countries dropped by 75 percent during the same 12 years.

Foreign adoptions have been in short supply while demand has surged among American evangelicals, prompted by Russell Moore and other leaders.

Last year, Americans adopted the most children from China, Ethiopia, South Korea, Ukraine, and Uganda. Most of these adoptive US parents lived in Texas, California, New York, Florida, and Georgia.

While reasons for the steady decline are multiple and complex, 80 percent of the drop in American adoptions can be traced back to three countries: China, Russia, and Guatemala, according to the State Department.

The Russian government banned Americans from adopting Russian children in 2012,  leaving in limbo thousands of children and dropping the number of Russian adoptions from a high of 5,682 in 2004 to zero last year.American Adoptions from All Countries.

Guatemala suspended foreign adoptions to all countries while it works to clean up a system full of fraud and corruption. The 3,251 adoptions of Guatemalan children in 2004 dropped to 13 in 2015.
