Editor’s note. November is National Adoption Month. All this month we’ve been posting and reposting stories about this life-affirming decision.

November is National Adoption Awareness month. The annual event, started by President Ronald Reagan, focuses on finding adoptive families for children in foster care.

Finding forever homes for children who have been in the foster care system is life changing—for the children and for the families who experience the love of a child. Offering a home to children and teens in need is an incredible Pro-Life witness that we at Texas Right to Life have the privilege of seeing time and again.

When we asked our readers if they would, hypothetically, adopt a child to save him from abortion, the response was overwhelming. Of course, agreeing to adopt a hypothetical child is easy; that’s not what got our attention. The number of committed Pro-Lifers who have adopted children, fostered children, or been adopted themselves is amazing.

In response to the question, “Would you ever consider adopting a child who may otherwise be aborted?” one Texas Right to Life follower, Laurie, shared her touching story and her blog. On her blog, “Adoption Creates Families,” Laurie shares about her family’s journey to adopting five children. They fostered many children along the way, struggled with fear and uncertainty, adopted toddlers, two newborns, and a teenage son.

Texas families like Laurie’s are the Pro-Life heart of our state. This November as we raise awareness for the children in foster care who need forever homes, we also express our gratitude for the tremendous sacrifices adoptive families make to bring their children home.

Texas Right to Life has long advocated for ways to promote the loving choice of adoption. We have worked with legislators to make the adoption process less lengthy and less expensive, so that families who are waiting to grow their families through adoption will not have such a difficult journey.

Texas House Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood and Send $20 Million to Pregnancy Centers

The Texas House passed a two-year budget Thursday that would cut off funding to abortion groups and increase support for pregnant and parenting families.

The budget passed in a 131-16 vote, with the two pro-life amendments, and now moves to the state Senate for consideration, according to the Texas Tribune.

Texas lawmakers and pro-life advocates have been working for years to stop taxpayer funding from flowing to abortion groups like Planned Parenthood. The legislature voted in 2015 to prohibit Medicaid funding to abortion groups; however, the measure currently is blocked by a court order.

There often are multiple funding streams from which taxpayer dollars flow to Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups. Finding and cutting off all of the streams can be a long process.

The newly proposed Texas budget would block that additional funding. According to Texas Right to Life, there were several “hidden streams” in the 2016 Texas budget that gave money to abortion groups, including through the Health and Human Services Commission, Attorney General and Texas Comptroller. The funds added up to more than $500,000.

Mom of Quintuplets Refuses Pressure to “Reduce the Pregnancy” by Aborting One of Her Babies

Virginia couple Michael and Margaret Baudinet struggled with infertility and suffered the devastating loss of miscarriage. This Christmas, however, they had five reasons to be ecstatic – their five babies.

The Daily Mail reported on the sudden expansion of the Baudinet family. Their quintuplets, Ava, Camille (Millie), Clara, Isabelle, and Luke were born on December 4, 2016.

Proud mom Margaret has been sharing updates on the family’s blog, “Bundles of Baudinets.” Margaret and Michael decided to temporarily move to Arizona, so that the quintuplets could be in the care of renowned physician Dr. John Elliot. Margaret wrote on her blog about why they chose Dr. Elliot for his work with multiples. Despite the hardship of living far from friends and family, the Baudinets wanted to give their quintuplets the best care possible.

Sadly, many parents in similar circumstances are pressured to “selectively reduce,” a euphemism for killing one or more of the babies through abortion in order to increase the chances of healthy pregnancy and delivery for the other babies. Margaret shared her reaction to being pressured to “reduce the pregnancy”:

"As you can imagine, this is terrifying to hear, especially after you’ve heard that if you don’t reduce, your kids may have severe disabilities if they are lucky enough to even survive (much less you, the mother…oh yeah, almost forgot about you!)."
