Before U.S. Senate hearings have even taken place, Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey Jr. already has made up his mind about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and his answer is no.
Vassar News reports the seemingly moderate Democrat senator has refused to consider approving President Donald Trump’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
“I’ve got a position and I’m not backing off that: I’m a No and I’m [going to] remain No,” Casey said.
The senator has yet to meet with Kavanaugh, and committee hearings to confirm the nominee have yet to take place.
This hard-lined response to Kavanaugh is perplexing for a senator who has stated that he is pro-life and has a family history of pro-life leadership. Casey’s father, Robert Casey Sr., was the governor of Pennsylvania in the 1980s and 90s, and was known as a leading pro-life Democrat who famously fought Planned Parenthood in the Supreme Court case, Planned Parenthood vs. Casey. If Kavanaugh were to be approved, there is potential for cases like Roe vs. Wade to be overturned and protections for unborn babies upheld.
In an interview with Politico, Casey defended his congressional voting record:
“I think it’s clear to most people that the description of pro-life Democrat is accurate. I’ve been very consistent…What it means is I try to support policies that help women and children both before and after birth.
Part of that is making sure you are honest about differences but also at the same time trying to focus on ways to reduce both the number of abortions and the number of unwanted pregnancies, and I think my record reflects that.”
Casey’s record shows that his actions are not as pro-life as he chalks them up to be. The National Right to Life scorecard puts the Pennsylvania senator at 20 percent based on how he has voted on pro-life bills in the past year. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood gives the senator a 75 percent in favor of abortion-friendly laws. NARAL Pro-Choice America, a radical pro-abortion organization, rates Casey at 100 percent.
Casey’s staunch position against Kavanaugh may hurt him in the long run, especially with midterm elections coming up this fall. In 2016, Trump won Pennsylvania during the presidential election.
Casey’s senate challenger, U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, a pro-life Republican, commented on Kavanaugh and Casey during a news conference in Pennsylvania last week.

A top Democratic Party leader made waves this week when he said the pro-abortion party will not deny funding to candidates who are pro-life.
The statement seems like a step in the right direction for a party that has grown increasingly pro-abortion. But the problem is that pro-life Democratic politicians are almost non existent today, and some who describe their position as pro-life rarely vote that way. So, while the party may be willing to support pro-life Democrats, other pressures appear to be keeping them from holding office.
The Hill reports none of the Democratic candidates in the most contested races so far this fall are pro-life.
Several who are up for re-election, including U.S. Sens. Bob Casey from Pennsylvania, Joe Manchin from West Virginia and Joe Donnelly from Indiana, will receive party support; however, the three politicians do not have strong pro-life voting records.
Donnelly and Casey had just a 20-percent pro-life voting record in 2013-2014, while Manchin voted pro-life 50-percent of the time, according to the National Right to Life Committee.
Casey and Manchin especially have faced harsh criticism for supporting Planned Parenthood, which aborts more unborn babies than any other group in the U.S. and receives millions of taxpayer dollars each year. Embroiled in scandal after scandal involving aborted babies body parts, Medicaid fraud and failures to report suspected sex trafficking and sexual abuse of minors, many Americans want to see the abortion chain defunded.
While Manchin recently sat down with pro-lifers to discuss the issue, Casey appears to be steadfast in his support of the No. 1 abortion business in the nation.
Earlier this year, Casey claimed he supports Planned Parenthood funding because the abortion chain “reduces abortions.” He ignored how, earlier this year, Planned Parenthood leaders refused an offer for an increase in tax funding if they stopped doing abortions. CEO Cecile Richards called the offer “obscene and insulting,” making it very clear that abortions – not women’s health care – are the priority of Planned Parenthood.

When it comes to pro-life votes, U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Jr. has entered the “Hall of Shame.”
The son of the late Pennsylvania pro-life hero, Gov. Robert Casey, Sr., has voted not once, not twice, but three times against the pro-life position in critical votes in the U.S. Senate this year, according to National Right to Life’s highly-respected pro-life voting scorecard.
His votes add up to a whopping 0 percent pro-life voting record in 2017.
This from a man who claims he is pro-life—even while he promotes Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion operation, which commits more than 320,000 abortions annually.
In fact, today (Friday), Planned Parenthood Advocates of PA tweeted a photo of a rally they were attending in the Pennsylvania state Capitol which prominently featured–guess who?– Senator Casey.
The rally claimed to be promoting health care. However no matter how often and how loudly PPFA argues otherwise, abortion is not health care.
Sen. Casey voted against legislation nullifying pro-abortion President Barack Obama’s parting gift to Planned Parenthood. In recent years, several states receiving Title X family planning grants have opted to direct those funds to county health departments, community health centers, or other types of providers, in preference to organizations engaged in objectionable activities, such as Planned Parenthood, a mega-marketer of abortion.
At the eleventh hour of his administration. Obama’s Department Heath and Human Services issued a rule designed to prevent states from redirecting Title X funds away from unsuitable organizations such as Planned Parenthood.
Thankfully, the nullification of the pro-abortion Title X rule passed Congress and was signed into law by pro-life President Donald Trump—no thanks to Bob Casey.
Casey voted again contrary to the pro-life position of National Right to Life and the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation (an NRLC affiliate) when he voted the wrong way to allow filibusters for Supreme Court nominations. And then he hit the trifecta by voting against the confirmation of the highly-qualified and esteemed Neil Gorsuch as Supreme Court justice. Again, Justice Gorsuch safely made it to the High Court, again with no help from Casey.
