Ignore the Smokescreen

As investigations by the National Pro-Life Alliance and other pro-life and law enforcement groups have shown, Planned Parenthood staff across the country have again and again:

·        Actively abetted minors in avoiding laws that require parental notification -- even if the minor girl is a likely victim of rape.

·        Concealed life or death information on the risks of surgical and drug abortions and the proven health consequences of both.

·        Covered up sex trafficking of young girls in violation of laws requiring them to advise authorities.

·        Kept such accounting practices that it is a lie for them to say that no taxpayer funds are used for abortion.

But that begs the question.  Are the claims by Planned Parenthood true that their so-called "women's health centers" really service women's health needs?  Or are their claims merely a smoke screen for maximizing the money they spend to perform and promote abortions?

Looking at the evidence, it's clear to me that the second interpretation is true. As you and other NPLA members know, Planned Parenthood gets your tax dollars both in direct government grants and as reimbursement for "costs" of abortion.

But they get even more of your tax money, supposedly for "other services." But in case after case, evidence shows these other services are a sham.

For example, in Texas, former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson filed a whistleblower lawsuit, charging that the Houston area Planned Parenthood knowingly sent in some $6 million in false claims to Medicaid and covered up its actions.

The suit states the Houston area abortion facility sent in more than 87,000 reimbursement claims for services that were "false, fraudulent, and/or ineligible."

Secondly, in California, former Planned Parenthood financial officer, Victor Gonzalez, says his internal audit estimated Planned Parenthood overcharged California taxpayers $180 million since late 1990's in the Los Angeles area alone.

And these two examples are just the tip of the iceberg, as more whistleblowers continue to come out of the woodwork. The bottom line is, it doesn't matter how Planned Parenthood gets their hands on tax dollars. Whenever taxpayer dollars flow to Planned Parenthood, you can be sure they will find a way to use them to subsidize their deadly abortion business.

That's why Planned Parenthood must not see a penny from taxpayers for any reason and why your continued support of NPLA efforts is so important.

And also why I hope you will help ratchet up the pressure to cut the taxpayer funding completely and crank up the heat in Congress to pass the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act" to end ALL taxpayer funding for abortionists.

“Health Care Conscience Rights Act”

WASHINGTON—On March 4, 2013, Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) and 50 other House members introduced H.R. 940, the Health Care Conscience Rights Act of 2013. Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB's Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty, welcomed its introduction with the following statement:

"I am grateful to Congresswoman Black and other sponsors for their leadership today. I welcome the Health Care Conscience Rights Act and call for its swift passage into law. While federal laws are on the books protecting conscience rights in health care, this Act would make such protection truly effective. This overdue measure is especially needed in light of new challenges to conscience rights arising from the federal health care reform act."

In a February 15 letter, Archbishop Lori urged Congress to enact effective conscience and religious freedom protection provisions like those of H.R. 940 as part of "must-pass" legislation for continued funding of federal programs.

A Capitol Hill press conference featuring four plaintiffs advocating for their conscience rights and religious freedom will take place at 10 am (EST) Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013 in Rayburn House Office Building, Room B-318.

President Obama’s War on Marriage

In May 2012, Newsweek crowned Barack Obama “the first gay president” for his war on marriage. A halo appeared above his head in the cover photo. The magazine was applauding him not only for his defiance of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) but for his “evolution” in favor of gay marriage, a stance no president before him had ever taken.

This flattering narrative about his brave and anguished transformation was bogus. He had endorsed gay marriage many years before. “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight any effort to prohibit such marriage,” he wrote in reply to a 1996 issues survey from a gay magazine based on Chicago’s North Side. When this became public and threatened to cause him political damage as a state Senate candidate, his aides cast the answer as a garbled misfire. It wasn’t. He had signed the letter himself.

His opposition to gay marriage was always a charade. In 2008, he faked up nominal opposition to it in order to win the White House, all the while intending to defy DOMA and redefine marriage. As soon as he entered office, he began holding “LGBT” receptions in the White House, telling gay activists that Americans would lose their “worn arguments and old attitudes” under his juggernaut. “Welcome to your White House,” he said. “We’ve been in office six months now. I suspect that by the time this administration is over, I think you guys will have pretty good feelings about the Obama administration.”

HELP PROTECT MINORS FROM THE LUST AND GREED OF THE ABORTION INDUSTRY!

Most states in our country don't let a minor get an abortion without informing at least one parent. But many of those states border other states that have no such requirement. And there is no legal obstacle to an adult taking that minor across state lines for an abortion about which the parents will never know.

Yet now, legislation has been introduced in Congress to change this. The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act would prevent adults from taking children for abortions behind their parents' backs. Please make a phone call to encourage the passage of this bill.

As I write this, there are already 74 cosponsors of this bill in the House of Representatives. We want to get more, and we want to encourage those who already stand with us. Actually, this commonsense legislation almost became law a few years ago, but pro-abortion Democrats blocked it.

The bill had actually been passed by both the House and the Senate, but Democrats blocked the committee that was supposed to reconcile the different versions of the bill so that the President could sign it into law……which he was willing to do!!

So now we, and more importantly, our children and their children, have another chance. And most Americans support this legislation.

Friends, the abortion industry is unscrupulous. Every abortion is business for them. They oppose parental involvement laws, and they don't care if the minor on whom they perform the abortion is from a state that has such laws.
The abortion industry will not reform itself. Therefore, the law has to step in to protect our children and grandchildren!

Pro-Life Reflections for March 4

REFLECTION:

We are blessed, indeed, if we mourn over our sins and over the evils in the world; like the daily killing of children by abortion.

When is the last time we shed tears over the shedding of blood, and wept for the lives of these  babies killed and moms and dads wounded?  Let us pray for the gift of those tears!

PRAYER:

Lord, give me a broken heart over abortion. Give me the grace to do my part in ending this evil, and give me comfort, as You bring justice to the earth.

COLLEGE MALES PLAY “KILL THE BABY”

Bill Donohue comments on what happened in the cafeteria at Hunter College in New York City Wednesday evening:

Some young men at Hunter decided to play a game mocking abortion. So they stuffed balloons under their shirts, pretending to be pregnant, and then used plastic forks and knives on each other to pop the balloons. Students yelled, “Kill that baby! Kill it!”

At least these men were honest: pregnant women are not carrying blobs of cells—they are carrying a human being. Notice that the guys didn’t scream “Kill that fetus.” Indeed, “Kill that baby” makes so much more sense. Which is why it just rolled off their lips.

This month marks the 50th anniversary of Betty Friedan’s book, The Feminine Mystique, the work that launched the feminist movement in our time; one of the byproducts of that movement was the legalization of abortion. Interestingly, we know from every survey ever conducted on abortion rights that there is no segment of the population that is more enthusiastic about a woman’s “right to choose” than young men. This, of course, is not what Friedan intended.

Had feminists thought about this subject more clearly, they would have realized that legalizing abortion would be a boon to millions of selfish, exploitative young men. Just like the ones who acted out at Hunter.

The Suffering Brothers and Sisters of Aborted Children

Abortion is anything but a simple choice. It affects not just the child who dies in an unimaginable way. It affects not just the mother who suffers through the abortion or the father who could do nothing to stop it. Abortion affects the family at large – grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and brothers and sisters.

It can be a very strange thought to wonder why you were chosen to live while your brother or sister was chosen for death. Why did you survive? What would your sibling have been like, acted like, looked like? Would he or she have resembled you? Become your best friend? Years of memories you should have had were wiped out before you ever knew that your brother or sister should have existed. Indeed, abortion is anything but simple for the brothers and sisters of aborted children.

If You Had Only One Minute…..

 I was about to close up shop for the week when I ran across an article at Inside Higher Education headlined “Snapshot Dissertation.” I had an intuition what the subject matter might be about and sure enough that’s what it was. In two paragraphs, or fewer, I’ll show you why it speaks to us, and make a request.

In a nutshell Duke University has what reporter Colleen Flaherty describes as an initiative to “forge connections between academics and other community members.” It’s called Scholars and Publics and the hope (my summary here) is to find a common language by which the scholarly community and the rest of us can “talk.” It’s starting in the sciences, but the intent is to spread across all disciplines.

 One component is for graduate students to be able to encapsulate their dissertations in a 30-60-second video. This is not a variation (I don’t think) of the idea that if you can’t explain something orally, you don’t really understand it. Instead the objective is to “teach [students] to imagine explaining what they’re learning to their parents or grandparents,” according to Huntington Willard, director of Duke University’s Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy, in an e-mail interview with Flaherty.

The Essential Role of Forgiveness

 Editor’s note. Melissa, the survivor of a “failed” saline abortion in 1977, speaks all over the world including at the last two National Right to Life Conventions. 

 

I had just finished a presentation at his high school recently when a young man approached me with this painful admittance.  “I feel like I’m a bad person,” he whispered as the tears streamed down his face.

I didn’t need to guess at what might lead him to think such a thing about himself. I had just finished speaking to the students about the impact of abortion. But when he was finally able to slow the sobs racking his body and explain further, I was still both surprised and devastated.  

Everyone has a story, especially when it comes to abortion and how it has changed them personally or someone they know.  In the last six years, I have met thousands and thousands of people whose lives and stories have touched me, changed me, and shaped the work that I do.

Yet in all those years and all those talks and all the follow up discussion, no young man’s story has affected me more. Why?
