A Pilgrimage to See the Replica of the Shroud of Turin

This isn't the type of story you usually see here.  I strayed off course today after a pilgrim visit to see a replica of the Shroud of Turin. What Our Lord suffered on Good Friday over 2000 years ago was because of the indifference we see in nations all around the world; terrible sins that have become rampant in our world. 

We are all so caught up in our daily struggles and sometimes they seem to consume us. But once in a while, you get to step back and put them in perspective, and today was one of those days for me.  I hope everyone takes the time to view these photos and meditate on just how cruelly Our Lord was treated and ask for His Divine Mercy on all of us and on our whole world. 

This morning my Mom, my sister, Kathy, and I had the privilege to visit St. Mary's Church Ukrainian Church in Bristol, PA to view the replica of the Shroud of Turin.

When you actually see the face of Jesus on the cloth, and see the marks from blood stains from the piercing of the sword, you forget all your problems.  They seem so small in comparison to what Our Lord suffered on our account.  Below are pictures I took today while there.

Where Will Same-Sex Unions Lead Us?

Listening to arguments by Theodore Olson, the lawyer challenging Proposition 8, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy said this: “You’re asking for us to go into uncharted waters, and you can play with that metaphor. There’s a wonderful destination or there’s a cliff.”

Last month the United States Supreme Court heard two cases challenging the oldest human institution next to gardening—marriage. The court is to rule whether constitutional equal protection should extend to same-sex unions and dub them “marriage.” The significance of this ruling is that the precedent it sets will be irrevocable. If the Supreme Court constitutionalizes a right to so-called same-sex marriages, it will be a point of no return.

Will this finality be the result of triumphant victory or terminal velocity? Will it be a wonderful destination somewhere over the rainbow? Or a cliff?

Perhaps we can get a sense of what lays ahead—a paradise or a precipice—by looking back at America’s infamous track record of redefining fundamentals:

Abortion, Gosnell and the Truth

In last week’s Philadelphia Inquirer piece, Kate Michelman and Carol E. Tracy opined why women chose Dr. Kermit Gosnell to perform their abortions, they refused to admit that it was the lack of oversight and regulation that gave us the Gosnell tragedies.

For more than twenty years, pro-life people prayed outside of Gosnell’s Women’s Medical Clinic at 38th Street and Lancaster Ave.  Abortion rights advocates never joined us on those often cold Saturday mornings, despite the fact that they were well aware of Gosnell’s reputation.  After the Gosnell story broke, the National Abortion Federation claimed that it would not refer women to this abortionist.  But according to the Grand Jury Report, the National Abortion Federation never reported Gosnell to authorities.  So, women were harmed and some died alongside their babies.

Despite abortion advocates’ and like-minded media members’ claims to the contrary, abortion is readily available in Pennsylvania.  In 2012, 16,813 abortions were performed in the Keystone state.  The majority were done here in Philadelphia. There are multiple abortion facilities and hospitals that willingly end the life of child for an average cost of about $450.

Media Covers up Democrat-Backed Planned Parenthood’s Support for Infanticide

 For almost as long as there have been two parties, there have been accusations of mainstream media bias. Conservatives know it’s real. Liberals insist it’s imagined. Bias is evident not only in how events are covered but also in what is covered—and more importantly what is not covered.

Consider two events from last week. First, in North Dakota the governor signed into law bills that would ban abortions when a fetal heartbeat is present and when the procedure is sought solely because of the baby’s genetics. The media, including most major outlets, went into a frenzy to stir up controversy, often casting pro-life conservatives in a negative light.

Then later in the week in Florida, lawmakers held a hearing about a bill to protect the lives of babies born during an attempted abortion procedure. The bill requires the abortionist to provide medical care to the newborn. It might seem obvious that a newborn should be cared for—but not to Planned Parenthood.

Monday, April 8 is Day of Exodus 2013.  Simply put, it is the day of the year that abortion clinic workers who are ready to quit their jobs do so, in exodus.
