In Support of Traditional Marriage

It’s critical place in Human Civilization cannot be exaggerated.  Civilization cannot exist without it.  It is noteworthy that in 1597, Five Spanish missionaries lost their lives in Georgia because they stood up for marriage while the natives there were insisting on polygamy.  Alexis de Tocqueville made an interesting comment in 1898; “There is certainly no country in the world where the tie of marriage is more respected than in America or where conjugal happiness is more highly or worthily appreciated.”  Children have a right to be raised by a mother and a father. 

In the state of Pennsylvania, Representative Metcalfe introduced H.B. 1349 which stipulates that marriage is between a man and a women.  If this bill is passed twice, it would be placed on a statewide ballot for a citizen vote. 

Citizens who would like to make a sacrifice in support of traditional marriage may decide to boycott products and services from the following corporations who are promoting same-gender marriage: Starbucks, J.C. Penny; Microsoft; General Mills; Amazon; Budweiser; Target; Levi's; Absolut.

NOTE:  Information on these corporations is listed below and I encourage everyone who decides to join the boycott to contact them to let them know why you are not purchasing their merchandise.  A boycott does no good unless you let the company know why you are no longer buying their products!

PHILADELPHIA SAYS NO TO BURIAL FOR GOSNELL BABIES

One day at the Kermit Gosnell trial, Frank Pavone, a Catholic priest, sat next to me. We were mere feet behind the notorious Philadelphia abortionist, and Pavone set his gaze on the doctor, who was alone at the defense table as his lawyer spoke with a prosecutor.

Pavone whispered: “I really would like to talk to Dr. Gosnell, to counsel him, to see if he is in need. Just because we do evil things — and he did evil things — does not mean we are condemned forever. No one is beyond the reach of God. Not even an abortionist.”


The priest rose, went over to Gosnell’s lawyer, spoke briefly to him, handed over a business card, and retook his seat.

“Well, I can only ask,” he said.

Victory--PA Senate Acts to Stop Tax Funding of Abortion

In a major victory for Pennsylvania taxpayers, the Pennsylvania Senate on Wednesday approved a ban on tax funding of abortions in PA under the health insurance exchange created by the federal health care law  (which many know as Obamacare). 

 

The PA House passed the bill earlier this year.   Governor Tom Corbett is expected to sign the bill into law soon.

 Thank you to all of you who made phone calls and sent emails and letters to your state Senators--as well as those who made personal visits.  State lawmakers tell us time and time again that they want to hear from their constituents on important issues--and taxpayer funding of abortion is a critical issue in Pennsylvania.

Countdown to Fortnight for Freedom

The U.S. bishops have called for a Fortnight for Freedom, a two-week period of prayer and action, to address many current challenges to religious liberty, including the August 1, 2013 deadline for religious organizations to comply with the HHS mandate;  Supreme Court rulings that could redefine marriage in June, and religious liberty concerns in areas such as immigration and humanitarian services.

In Vermont, Catholic owners of a bed and breakfast settled a discrimination lawsuit, requiring the owners to pay massive fines in civil penalties and to charitable trust. GOSNELL TRIAL’S DETAILS LEAD TO HEARINGS ON BILL TO PROTECT FETUS FROM PAIN

WASHINGTON (CNS) — The fetal nervous system and brain structures that communicate pain are already in place by the 18th week of gestation, a neurobiologist from Utah told a congressional hearing May 23.

“There is universal agreement that pain is detected by the fetus in the first trimester,” although if it is not known if that pain is experienced in quite the same way as it is in adults, said Maureen Condic, an associate professor of neurobiology and adjunct professor of pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City.

She also said that unborn babies are anesthetized when undergoing fetal surgery because, she explained, doctors have observed that fetuses do experience pain.

Condic was one of several witnesses testifying at the hearing sponsored by U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., as chair of the House Judiciary’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice.

Franks, with several co-sponsors has introduced the Pain Capable Unborn Protection Act to prohibit abortion nationwide after 20 weeks of gestation, approximately the stage at which scientists say unborn babies are capable of feeling pain.

Franks recently reintroduced a measure that would outlaw abortions in the District of Columbia after 20 weeks, and he and a number of other members of Congress want to amend it to make it nationwide. Congress has legislative jurisdiction over the district.

ACLU Supports Sex-Selection, Race-Based Abortions

 The ACLU can be counted on to advocate on behalf of culture of death issues. Now, it is suing to overturn Arizona’s ban on sex and race-based abortion.

From the AP story:

Civil rights groups on Wednesday sued Arizona to block a 2011 law banning abortions based on the race or sex of the child that makes it a felony to knowingly provide a sex- or race-based abortion. Lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona said the law unconstitutionally singles out Asian and black women based on stereotypes and the sponsors’ beliefs that Asian and black women may choose an abortion because of race or the baby’s sex.

What? The law bans abortion based on sex and race. It doesn’t ban abortions by black or Asian women. Just because there was legislative history that some communities might be more likely to terminate a pregnancy based on sex, doesn’t mean the law is invidiously aimed at those communities.

And here I thought the ACLU opposed racism and sexism.

HELP US GIVE A FUNERAL AND BURIAL TO THE BABIES GOSNELL KILLED

I need your help today to restore some measure of dignity to the babies Kermit Gosnell aborted!

As you know, this abortionist has been convicted of murder for killing babies born alive, and for many other charges as well. And as you may also know, I have requested of the Medical Examiner in Philadelphia to be able to bury the bodies of these babies -- bodies that were found in Gosnell's clinic when it was raided in 2010. But now, to add insult to injury, we are being told that the bodies will not be given to us.

We want to know:

a) Why not? And

b) What is going to be done with these bodies?

That's why I'm mobilizing our forces to act quickly, today, to contact the Medical Examiner by phone to urge him to reconsider. We need to act today, because at any moment, for all we know, these babies could be burned or thrown away as garbage. We simply don't know what they intend to do with them.

We have already given names to these 45 babies, most of whom are in pieces. When Gosnell's mill was raided, they were found in jars, in cat litter boxes and orange juice containers, and in plastic bags in the freezer. Haven't these babies already suffered enough indignity? Isn't it time to honor these bodies with a funeral and a proper burial?

That is exactly what we have asked the Medical Examiner for permission to do. And at first, we received a respectful reply saying our request was being considered. But after a few weeks, we were told that the decision was made not to provide bodies..

And that, of course, leaves two questions unanswered:

a) Why not?

b) What will be done with these babies?

ABORTIONIST AGREES, PLANNED PARENTHOOD ‘NEVER LISTENED TO’ NURSES ABOUT ‘NIGHTMARE’ FACILITY

The nurses who exposed the “meat-market” conditions at a “nightmare” abortion facility say Planned Parenthood turned a deaf ear to their repeated complaints and pleas for action. Over the weekend, the abortionist who worked at the clinic and oversaw the nurses said he agrees.

"Planned Parenthood is partly to blame for all this,” said Timothy Liveright, the 68-year-old abortionist who, according to the nurses and the state attorney general's office, is responsible for many of the violations in question. “They've allowed this circus to continue. It's partly because they never listened to these women to begin with."

The abortionist told The News Journal that he is being made a "scapegoat" for the problems at the clinic.

 Joyce Vasikonis and Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich said they alerted the abortion provider about the unsanitary practices of the Wilmington, Delaware, Planned Parenthood – where they say instruments were not sterilized between patients, Dr. Liveright reused bloody gloves, untrained staff members oversedated women and let them wander around, and women were rushed onto tables still stained with the blood of the previous patient.

Women "could be at risk of getting hepatitis, even AIDS,” said Vasikonis.

“It would take me all afternoon to describe all the deficiencies I found at Planned Parenthood of Delaware during the 10 months I worked there,” she told the Delaware State Senate last week. “What I found was that the culture of Planned Parenthood of Delaware was focused on maximizing profits and the bottom line, not quality health care for women.”
