ObamaCare “Train Wreck” Delays Employer Mandate, Enforces Individual and Abortion-Pill Mandates

The Obama Administration announced that it has imperially decided to delay, for one year, the employer mandate – what has been called the “cornerstone of the new law” – the mandate that all businesses with more than 50 employees provide them health insurance.

The Administration specifically stated that this employer mandate delay does “not affect . . . any other provision” of ObamaCare.  The HHS abortion-pill mandate and the individual mandate – requiring every American to purchase health insurance – are still in full effect.

President Obama and the Democrats told us that ObamaCare was supposed to help the little guy.  They told us that the individual mandate wouldn’t affect most Americans because their employers would be required and highly incentivized through steep penalties to provide health insurance.  Those incentives are now all but gone.  In short, we were lied to.

President Obama just provided a big business bailout while hammering the individual.

An estimated 160 million Americans currently have health insurance through their employer without a mandate.  But President Obama said a mandate was critically necessary.  He stood in front of the American people at the famous Blair House Healthcare Summit in February 2010 and declared that “employers are shedding employees from health care plans” and that big businesses have “got to pay your fair share, because otherwise all of us have to pick up the tab.”

From the Pastor's Corner

by Fr. George W. Rutler

With my parents at a performance of Gounod's Faust at the opera some years ago, when Marguerite went mad in Act V after killing her baby, my mother let out a gasp that embarrassed me, for we were in a box over stage left and conspicuous. Now I bless my mother because that maternal empathy is the heart of civilization. “A voice was heard in Ramah, Rachel weeping for her children” (Jeremiah 31:15). Stifle the mother, and you stifle the child, and the world dies.

Our Lady, being a take-charge kind of woman, as was evident at the wedding in Cana, may have been a midwife often in Nazareth, weeping at the loss of infants as she surely did when the innocents were massacred in Bethlehem.

In the opera, the repentant Marguerite is taken by angels singing “Salvation” But Faust, who bartered his soul to Mephistopheles before fathering Marguerite's child, is bound to that Satan who, in the words of Milton, bids “Evil, be thou my good.” Anyone who calls evil good, moves discourse about infanticide to a very dark place.

On April 26, President Obama, the first sitting president to address Planned Parenthood, not only thanked that organization which aborts around 300,000 children a year, but added, ”God bless you.” Evil, be thou my good.

On June 13, Nancy Pelosi said that the abortion issue is “sacred ground.” Evil, be thou my good.

On June 20, a New York Times Op-Ed contributor described the aborting of her 23-week-old son, who had a heart defect: “I felt my sons budding life end as a doctor inserted a needle through my belly into his tiny heart. As horrible as that moment was, it will live with me forever.  I am grateful.  We made sure our son was not born only to suffer. He died in a warm and loving place, inside me.”  Evil, be thou my good.

Our merciful Lord will hear the cry of those who make terrible mistakes, especially those who have not had the grace of being taught right from wrong. To them he offers real angels, and not singers on a stage. But he also predicted that “a time is coming when anyone who kills will think he is offering service to God” (John 16:2). Like Faust, such people ask God to bless destroyers of life, and call the killing fields ‘sacred ground’ and even describe the womb of a mother who kills her child as a ‘a warm and loving place’.

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta said that no one is safe around a mother who would kill her own child. Anyone who makes a Faustian bargain knows that even Christ is not safe around such a mother: “Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40). Satan calls evil good. Christ calls it crucifixion.

Choice and Repercussion

by Donald DeMarco

Jean Bethke Elstain, an author I greatly admire, made an astute observation when she remarked that “much that comes parading through town under the banner of ‘choice’ is actually a new set of constraints and compulsions.”  “Parading” is an appropriately descriptive word since this new attitude toward choice does not come to us through a wise and thoughtful tradition. Rather, it comes whistling into town with much clang and clatter, but with little substance. “More and more women,” she goes on to say, “testify that the ‘choice’ to abort post-amniocentesis if they are carrying a ‘defective’ child is nearly irresistible:  they become ‘bad mothers’ by carrying a child to term rather than aborting it!  ‘Choice’ and ‘constraint’ always go hand-in-hand.”  She penned these words nearly 25 years ago (Chronicles, October, 1989). In retrospect, she appears prophetic.  Her words are truer today than they were a quarter of a century ago when she first wrote them.

Choices are not without consequences. Bad choices can have unhappy repercussions. Nature cannot be mocked with impunity; it has a way of striking back.  Overeating brings on indigestion.  Immoral choices are followed by guilt and regret.  In the web of life, choice is not free from a multitude of things that are not directly chosen but nonetheless do reverberate.  A thief in the night may think that all he is doing is obtaining his loot.  But his action puts the whole town on alert.

Joyce Arthur, coordinator of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada complained when actress Nicole Kidman announced to the press that she was “thrilled” at being pregnant.  Ms. Arthur wants pregnant women to be less positive about their pregnancies:  “It certainly shows any young woman watching these movies or following these celebrities that the best option is to have the baby and it glorifies that choice.”  The choice to abort brings with it a prohibition of any public display of maternal joy.  One choice annuls another.  We must not glorify choices.  We want to make all choices perfectly free of any outside influence.  This would mean, incidentally, the logical end of commercial advertising. Nonetheless, this is a strange request coming from an organization that has done everything it could to influence the choice of abortion.  The choice for abortion, indeed, as Elshtain has remarked, does bring with it a considerable array of constraints and compulsions.

Secret to Pro-life Success

From David Bereit, National Director
40 Days for Life

As America prepares to celebrate independence this week, we are a nation in the midst of tragedy and turmoil.

More than 55 million children have been killed by abortion ...Millions of women -- and men -- have been scarred by their abortion experiences, and left with lives of regret.  The fundamental building blocks of society --marriage and family -- are being pummeled from all sides. Government is out of control with politicians and judges sacrificing the future of the nation for their personal and partisan agendas, and our religious freedom is under attack.

There is only ONE solution to these problems ... and that solution is explained in this new video. The video is of the keynote address I delivered at the Heartbeat International conference in Dallas, Texas,  and I've been humbled to receive more positive feedback from this presentation than from almost any talk I've ever given. I hope it encourages you -- and helps you understand what's needed to fix our broken culture.

For those in America, have a blessed Independence Day... and let's declare our independence from abortion.

For those in other countries, may God richly bless your nation as we work together to end this tragedy ... for once and for all.

Later this month, applications will open for those wanting to lead a local 40 Days for Life in their community. This video will lay out the vital foundation that is needed for a highly successful campaign.

We Must Stand Witness

Thomas Crown

On Tuesday night, a flown-in rent-a-mob screamed, jeered, and overrode ordinary small-r republican governance in Texas in order to make sure that viable children in utero, 20 weeks old and older, could still be killed on their mothers’ say-so. They also opposed efforts to make it so that a woman receiving an abortion did so in a clean medical facility, because a lot of abortionists don’t run those.

They stood with Kermit Gosnell and Douglas Karpen, the doctors who, respectively, are in jail for murdering children of the same age and in horrible sanitary conditions, and likely soon will be. And they were cheered on almost unanimously by print and television media.

Mollie Hemingway has a wonderful writeup on this, but I wanted to add a part. Because you see, we as Americans allow this madness — mobs running over governance, children being butchered — and I feel it is important to explain exactly what is at stake here.

U.K. MAY ALLOW DNA CHANGES TO ABOLISH DISEASE; CHURCH INSTITUTE CRITICAL

By Simon Caldwell Catholic News Service

MANCHESTER, England (CNS) — A Catholic bioethics institute criticized plans by the British government to create “genetically modified children” free of hereditary disease and said the treatment could affect the child’s descendants in unknown ways.

The Department of Health announced June 28 that, later this year, it will publish draft regulations on two mitochondrial replacement techniques.

The techniques can result in the creation of a single baby by several genetic parents, and one of the processes has been nicknamed “three-parent IVF” by the British media. No country in the world so far permits the procedure, meaning that Britain would be the first to create the first babies using the technique, probably by 2015.

The government has said there is general support for the techniques among the public, but the Anscombe Bioethics Centre, an Oxford-based institute serving the Catholic Church in the United Kingdom and Ireland, said it was disturbed by the proposals.

A statement posted on the center’s website said that the technique would genetically alter not only the baby but also the child’s descendants. Government proponents say descendants would also be free of the genetic disease because of the altered DNA.

National GOP On Texas Abortion Limits: The Gutless Party vs. The Party Of No Moral Compass

Texas Governor Rick Perry and committed Republican pro-life members of the Texas state legislature have stepped forward to defend the right to life by proposing legislation that would limit abortions past the 20 week mark, when the baby is viable outside the womb.

Those who obtain their news and information strictly from the establishment media – such as the three dinosaur TV networks CBS, NBC and ABC or the dying daily newspapers – can be forgiven for not realizing that there is a great moral debate going on in the State of Texas over the propriety of murdering infants in the name of “abortion rights.”

Because, if you watch the old networks or read the old daily newspapers you might think what’s been going on in Texas is a debate over women’s rights or health care, not killing babies.

The leadership of the national Democratic Party has jumped into the fray to the point that Washington’s two most powerful Democrats; Barack Obama and Harry Reid — not to mention a Dixie Chick – have waded in on the baby killing side of the Texas abortion showdown. However, Reince Preibus, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, has chosen to entirely absent himself and the RNC from the debate.

To Texas Republicans and social conservatives it seems hardly possible that the Party of Ronald Reagan, author of "Abortion and the Conscience of a Nation," the only book written by a sitting president, would sit out such a consequential public policy and moral debate. However, according to POLITICO’s David Nather, that is exactly what is going on.

Democrats for their part have jumped squarely into convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell territory by opposing any limits on abortion, even after 20 weeks when the child is clearly capable of life outside the womb.

This has placed the national Republican leadership in the position of ceding the moral high ground on an issue where the majority of Americans are on the side of the right-to-life. Most Americans favor some restrictions on abortions, and a Gallup poll earlier this year found that their support for legal abortions drops dramatically after the first trimester.

There’s also the National Journal poll that found 48 percent of Americans would support a ban on abortions after 20 weeks. And the Texas bill, specifically, gets high levels of support, at least among the state’s voters: a Texas Tribune poll found that 62 percent of the state’s voters would support eliminating abortions after 20 weeks.

Yet, national Republicans have declined to weigh in. And a key party official in Texas has acknowledged there’s no behind-the-scenes help coming.

Media Suppress Truth About Views Toward Late-term Abortion

From David Martin, Executive Vice-President
Media Research Center

We are calling on all pro-life Americans to take immediate grassroots action to neutralize the leftist media’s despicable attempts to obscure the facts in the abortion debate. Their latest efforts involve swooning over pro late-term abortion advocate Texas state senator, Wendy Davis, while hiding the truth about the legislation she is fighting.

As the Media Research Center has thoroughly documented, the liberal media’s support for the pro-abortion Davis has been unequivocal and universal, with  anchors like NBC’s Brian Williams and ABC’s Diane Sawyer hailing Davis’ "epic" filibuster and her rise to “folk hero” status.

Not a single so-called "journalist" on ABC, CBS, or NBC bothered to ask Davis why she supports killing fetuses after 20 weeks even though according to a National Journal poll, more Americans oppose this barbaric practice than oppose it.  And in Texas, where Ms. Davis serves, 62%  support a ban on abortions after 20 weeks.

Help fight back against the media’s radical pro-abortion propaganda campaign by signing our ”Stop Censoring the News!” petition to force the media into reporting the truth about what most Americans think of late-term abortion.

The pro-abortion media’s veneration of this Texas abortion advocate is nauseating to watch. We have to fight back.

Click here to sign our “Stop Censoring the News!” petition to send a powerful message to these shameless propagandists that if they’re going to promote an agenda as deplorable as late-term abortion, they should at least have the decency to tell the truth about public opinion on the issue.

The media are trying to turn a state senator who is campaigning to allow 20-week fetuses to be murdered into a hero, while vilifying pro-life Americans at every turn.

Join us today to expose and neutralize the liberal media’s despicable pro abortion agenda and receive your free “Stop Censoring the News!” bumper sticker.

The Media Research Center is proud to celebrate 25 years of holding the liberal media accountable for shamelessly advancing a left-wing agenda, distorting the truth, and vilifying the conservative movement.

Since 1987, our unwavering commitment to neutralizing left-wing bias in the news media and popular culture has influenced how millions of Americans perceive so-called objective reporting.

We’re grateful to our fans, grassroots supporters, and donors for allowing us to fight liberal media bias for a quarter century. Your passion for our cause has helped us achieve extraordinary success in shaping public opinion. Here’s to the next 25 years of forcing the media to "Tell the Truth!"
