Nuvaring Risks Focus of CNN Series

 It’s been 2½ years since Erika Langhart died suddenly at the age of 24 from two heart attacks. Her parents, former Durangoans and Red Snapper owners Rick and Karen Langhart, have since made it a mission to inform women about the risks of third-generation hormonal contraceptives – Nuvaring in particular – which they believe caused their daughter’s death.

“They talked to us, a classmate of Erika’s, (elite Army athlete) Megan Henry, who almost died because of Nuvaring,” Karen Langhart said, “and several other parents we have met who unfortunately share the commonality of having lost a daughter and who refused to settle.”

Multiple stories have run in The Durango Herald. Vanity Fair magazine ran a long article in January, and now CNN is picking up the story. Starting today, the news network will run a three-part series on “Anderson Cooper 360°” in a story reported by Randi Kaye.

Pretty Ugly: Planned Parenthood’s Deception of the American Public

Schuylkill County Clerk Files Motion to Intervene in Marriage Lawsuit

This afternoon, Jim Smith and David Crossett, attorneys with the Smith Law Group, LLC, located in Fleetwood, Berks County, Pennsylvania, and Jeff Conrad, attorney with Clymer, Musser & Conrad, P.C., located in Lancaster County, on behalf of Theresa Santai Gaffney, Clerk of the Orphan’s Court of Schuylkill County, filed a Motion to Intervene in Whitewood v. Wolf, the case in which a single federal District Judge declared unconstitutional for all Pennsylvanians, the Commonwealth’s longstanding definition of marriage as between one man and one woman. Theresa Santai Gaffney, Clerk of the Orphan’s Court, is seeking intervention in the case so that the ruling can be appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Governor Corbett, who had been defending the law, declined to appeal the ruling. “An appeal is necessary so that the judicial process is not abandoned,” stated Ms. Gaffney. “The people of Pennsylvania deserve to hear from the Court of Appeals on this important issue because a single judge should not be able to nullify the will of the majority without an appeal.”

Marriage between one man and one woman has always been the law in Pennsylvania. “I respect the law of our Commonwealth and the will of the people reflected in the law,” said Ms. Gaffney. “I believe that the voice of those who think that our law is constitutional and best serves all citizens of the Commonwealth should be heard.”

“Due to the uncertainty of the state of the law, I will continue issuing marriage licenses to all couples,” said Ms. Gaffney. 

One of the reasons that she is seeking to intervene in this case is to obtain clarity about her official duties.

The Motion to Intervene asks the Court for the ability to join the lawsuit for purposes of appeal.

The Pill Kills Outreach on This Saturday and Critical Pro-Life Second Sunday

With all the wonderful pro-life blessings and victories granted for the Waco area, there is still so much work to do for the Gospel of Life. This morning on KBBW I heard a pastor say, “Many think the Christian life is a play ground, when in reality it is a battleground.” This weekend in Waco is huge for pro-life, pro-family, and pro-child battles. Let us advance and never retreat.

1. The Pill Kills event in Waco and 60+ other citiesSaturday, June 7

This moral and educational outreach is growing rapidly. On Saturday, June 7, Pro-Life Waco will hold “The Pill Kills” public display and demonstration. This will be at the same location as Life Chain. The time on Saturday will be 2 - 3 p.m. We will educate about how chemical contraception poses a threat to women and is abortifacient for very early human embryos. I just picked up two 4’x4’ special signs for this demonstration. One message is “The pill” is a Group 1 carcinogen according to the World Health Organization.” The other is “Stop the contraception mandate.” This outreach needs you. I will have cold water on site. Waging Christian battles will not be without discomfort.

Regarding The Pill Kills, I have submitted the following letter to the editor of the WacoTrib:

“The Pill Kills” is an outreach of the American Life League (Stafford, Virginia). Pro-Life Waco, and organizations in over 50 other cities, are participating in the June 7 event.

The educational focus is on the abortifacient impact of the contraception pill, patch, shot, etc. and also the health risks for women.

On May 24, 2014, the UK Daily Mail online reported on months of evaluation of the emergency room death of talented British gymnast, Katie Davis. Her death on December 22, 2012, at the age of 21, was attributed to Crohn’s disease combined with oral contraceptives that made her more susceptible to blood clots.
2. Pro-Life Second Sunday, June 8 at St. Mary’s Parish Hall (of course)

On Sunday, we have our Second Sunday pro-life luncheon/meeting. This is the most critical meeting we have had in a long time because of the new Waco ISD/City of Waco initiative to implement “comprehensive sex education” for children. This is code for Planned Parenthood style sex. ed. such as there semi-pornographic book entitled “It’s Perfectly Normal.”

After skipping Second Sunday for Mother’s Day, it will be great to get back together with a meal during the noon hour. And a meeting from 1-2 p.m.. Our guest speaker, Rey Flores from American Life League, will be speaking about ALL’s new pro-life school education program, The Pill Kills and American Life League in general. Rey will be out there with us at the Pill Kills event from 2 - 3 p.m. on Saturday. Be there and stand side-by-side with a great pro-life field general.

One final thing about Second Sunday. We will take photos for the 2014 Pro-Life Waco Christmas card. The photo will feature children holding a sign. “Our moms took us to Second Sunday before we were born.” If you have a child/children that you took to Second Sunday in the security of mother’s womb, PLEASE come and be included in this photo.

A Call to Action

One Woman’s Story Calls Readers to Confront the “Brutal Reality” of Chinese Life

In the most recent edition of his book, A Mother's Ordeal, Steven Mosher presents a riveting account of one woman's journey through motherhood in China under the one child policy. A Mother's Ordeal gives faces to the repressive population control policies of the People’s Republic of China and helps an outsider understand the excruciating dilemma it presents couples in China.

The book chronicles the life of a young and talented nurse, Chi-An, as she struggles to mesh the lofty promises of the Chinese Communist Party with the shocking realities of their policies. As a loyal member of the party and a medical professional, Chi-An initially did not question the logic and moral correctness of the one child policy. When her patients came in begging her not to terminate their pregnancy, Chi-An viewed them as traitors to the Communist party rather than as mothers.

It wasn't until Chi-An married her loving husband, Wei Xin, and she became pregnant with their first child that she began to question the merits of the policy. After being forced to abort her second child, Chi-An was devastated, but in need of a job, she took a position as a member of the population control unit at a factory. There she took out her anger and bitterness over the loss of her own child by coercing other young women to abort.

Chi-An’s decision to work as a population control officer, while shocking to many Americans, is understandable when seen in the context of Chi-An’s tenuous role as a lower class member of Chinese society. Having grown up during Mao’s Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, Chi-An knew that disagreement with the one child policy would not be permitted. The book provides a broader context for understanding the impact of communism on the individual and the expansive nature of control that such a regime possesses.

Through Chi-An’s story, Mosher sheds light on how the Chinese have engineered a system and maintained such tight control over the size of its population. In fact, it is through the use of average Chinese citizens like Chi-An, that the government has enforced compliance with the one child policy and aborted an estimated 336 million boys and girls.

Chi-An forced countless women to abort their babies. Making nightly calls to their home, isolating them from family and friends to force a decision, and ultimately leading them to end their pregnancies and be sterilized, all in the name of the Communist party. She too, had been solicited nightly by population control workers, and disdained their very presence. But now, due to societal pressure and necessity, she had become one of them.

Throughout the book, the reader is not just a bystander, but a participant in Chi-An's struggle to rationalize the policies of the Chinese government. The reader is asked to understand Chi-An's challenges as a mother grieving the loss of her unborn child, while simultaneously asked to comprehend the pressures that Chi-An faces to enforce the stringent quotas of the one child policy.

Chi-An's account of life in China, arguably has greater credence, because she was an insider. She bore witness to the newly aborted babies born fully alive and left to die in trash cans. She saw doctors crush the skulls of newborns before they exited the birth canal. Chi-An was, in many ways, an accomplice in all these acts. And yet, Chi-An was also a victim of the one child policy, having been pestered by population control workers and eventually forced to abort her own baby.

After Wei Xin secured a prestigious position to study abroad in the U.S., Chi-An was left as a single mother caring for her only child until she was afforded the opportunity to join her husband at the university. Upon her arrival in the States, she unexpectedly became pregnant with their third child. Much to Chi-An's chagrin, the Chinese government deemed that the one child policy applied to Chinese couples abroad and began pressuring her from China to abort her child.

Chi-An and her family were eventually granted asylum in America and allowed to keep their third child due to the persecution they faced from Chinese officials to abort. While Chi-An escaped the menace of the one child policy, not all Chinese women are so lucky.

A Mother's Ordeal encourages the reader to confront the brutal and raw reality of Chinese communism and forces the reader to ask themselves how family matters ever became such an integral part of the government’s business.  Short of China’s authoritarian context, the story provides a framework for discussion of government, and leads one to the conclusion that that a government’s role is to protect people’s liberties, not to create, define, or restrict them.

Most importantly, Chi-An's story is not a relic of the past, but a story of the present. Countless Chinese women, daily face the pressure of the one child policy forcing them to abort their children and get sterilized.

A Mother’s Ordeal is as much a story as it is a call to action—a call to protect the rights of the unborn, to reflect on the proper role of government, and to be reminded of the suffering faced by modern women in China. While Chi-An’s story is a landmark case, the fight against the one child policy is far from over.

Dayton’s Mayor will be the Grand Marshal of the 2014 Gay Pride Parade this weekend performing ‘marriages’ even though herCatholic faith has been staunchly and historically against such abominations.

Dayton has a domestic partner registry, and ‘Mayor’ Whaley said it will soon offer same-sex couples commitment ceremonies.

These ‘marriages’ are symbolic same-sex marriage ceremony for six couples as part of the annual Pride festival on Courthouse Square in downtown Dayton so that her personal agenda will be for everyone to be forced onto everyone.

The Old Courthouse was preserved both for its significance to Dayton’s history – In 1859, Abraham Lincoln stood on its stone steps to address the community during his presidential campaign. I can only imagine how horrified President Lincoln would be if he were alive to see this blatant sideshow where he stood protecting our liberties.

This Pro-Life Billboard Was Up for One Day Until Planned Parenthood Took It Down

This pro-life billboard was lucky to have ever been erected on the sign that sits on Planned Parenthood property. It should have been rejected before it was ever put up, but local pro-life activists who attempted to have a pro-life billboard outside of a Planned Parenthood abortion business tell LifeNews today they’re happy they got one day with their message outside.

Kathy Potts, the executive director of Jackson Right to Life, tells LifeNews the story and talks about how her pro-life group is not giving up on its mission to expose the biggest abortion business in the country:

Instinct is a similar inner sensation.
