Building a Legacy of Life

The Legacy of Life Foundation supports  two crisis women’s centers, one in Bucks County and one in center city Philadelphia, by fundraising to support the financial needs of these two life-sustaining centers.

The unique mission of the centers we fund is the counseling approach used to empower women in an unplanned pregnancy to be free from fear and isolation so that they can freely choose life.

The Legacy of Life Foundation’s mission is to fund:

1. Life Saving Services: Pregnancy Testing, Ultrasounds and 24/7 Crisis Hotline

2. Advocacy and Counseling: Providing the mother in crisis the freedom from fear and isolation to carry her child to term – knowing she will not be alone

3. Family Support: Assisting with basic needs – housing, clothing, food, childcare and baby supplies – with the ultimate goal of a self-sustaining family

4. Promoting: The true treasure and gift of every pregnancy throughout the community.

Where Does the Cookie Money Go?

• A girl's troop keeps an average of just 10 to 20 percent of the money she collects from selling cookies.

• The local council receives an average of 65 to 75 percent of the money collected by all local troops.

• Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) collects a royalty payment based upon their licensed trademark on every box of cookies produced. With approximately 200 million boxes of cookies sold annually, this amounts to millions of dollars of funding for GSUSA every year.

What's the Concern About Funding Girl Scout Councils and GSUSA?

• Girl Scouts’ curriculum for girls, sold and promoted by every local Girl Scout council, recommends pro-abortion role models/organizations such as Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, Amnesty Intl., Population Council, ACLU, and National Organization For Women.

• Local Girl Scout councils and GSUSA honor and promote abortion rights advocates and pro-abortion politicians including Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius, Wendy Davis, and Elizabeth Warren among many others.

• Local Girl Scout councils and GSUSA connect girls to resources promoting abortion rights and inappropriate sexual content via official Girl Scout social media accounts.

• GSUSA is the largest member organization of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), providing 2.8 million of its 10 million girl and adult members worldwide and paying approximately 1.5 million dollars annually to WAGGGS based on the number of registered GSUSA members.

• WAGGGS, which states that "anyone who is a Girl Guide or Girl Scout is automatically a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts," aggressively promotes youth reproductive/abortion and sexual rights, specifically on behalf of its 10 million members.

• GSUSA maintains memberships in additional abortion advocacy groups, including the Coalition for Adolescent Girls and Re:Gender. Other organizations working alongside GSUSA in these groups include abortion providers International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International, and numerous organizations that push for unrestricted abortion rights, such as the Feminist Majority Foundation and the National Women's Law Center.

On Thursday, January 22, an immense crowd of pro-lifers will march in Washington, DC, to protest the nation’s Supreme Court-imposed law that allows the killing of innocent, unborn children. Many of you will be there.

For those who can’t attend, there are various ways to watch the events happen on your tv or computer. Beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST, River Song Productions (RSP) will provide a live-streaming broadcast, “A Matter of Life”, on YouTube with highlights from the march, followed by a three-hour show of interviews with pro-life leaders. You can watch it here. If you click on the link before Thursday, you will see “Please Stand By”, along with a countdown to the start of the show.

Last year, I had the pleasure of being one of the guests on the show. This year, I am honored to co-host the show with Maryann Lawhon, executive producer of the film, The Voice of John.

Maryann is a nurse who, in 1977, stumbled upon a live baby, the result of an abortion, who had been left to die on a cold metal table. She held the baby and baptized him before he died, telling him she would be his voice and let the world know what had happened to him.

Maryann and I will speak with many who are a voice for the voiceless. Guests appearing on the show include Donna Harrison, M.D., executive director of the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Jewels Green, a former abortion clinic worker, Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests of Life, Kelsey Hazzard, president of Secular Pro-Life, Dr. Alveda King of Silent No More, and many others.

Now wouldn't you want to start your day with a rousing time of prayer and praise like that?

Well, you can. What you saw was from the interdenominational National Prayer Service held on the morning of the March for Life!

And I would like you to join me for this year's service, if you can come to Washington, on Thursday morning, January 22, at Constitution Hall, from 8:30 to 10:30am. (I will offer a mass there at 7:30).

For over 20 years, I have been privileged to work with my colleagues Rev. Rob Schenck and Fr. Paul Schenck and others to organize this annual event of prayer that brings together clergy and believers from dozens of denominations.

It is called the Annual Memorial for the Preborn and Their Mothers and Fathers. We all stand together and express our solidarity with the children in the womb who are threatened by abortion and with the families so wounded by abortion.

By joining us and bringing your family and groups and parishes and schools, not only will you have an intense experience of prayer and Christian Unity, but it will be an educational experience unlike anything you can have very often. When would so many clergy of so many denominations be together, united in a firm purpose of changing our nation's policy on such a fundamental issue?

Every life is a gift. That’s the message that the 2015 March for Lifeis emphasizing for its 2015 event on January 22. The March for Life is an annual event, held each year on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. It was on this day in 1973 that the U.S. Supreme Court found a Constitutional right to abortion despite no mention in the Constitution.

Now, 57 million lives later, the pro-life movement shows no signs of slowing. The March for Life began as a small event, but it quickly became the largest peaceful pro-life demonstration in the nation.

Roe Events in Central Texas

In January, pro-lifers recognize the years since the 1973 dreadful Roe v Wade Supreme court decision and the growth of the pro-life movement that is saving lives and changing hearts each day.

1. Jan. 18 (Sunday) The first event in Central Texas is the “Sanctity of Life Family Picnic and Bake Sale” sponsored by the great folks at CareNet Pregnancy Center of Central Texas.11:00 - 12:00 pm at Waco Lion’s Den at 1716 42nd Street.

Food and fellowship! A great BBQ meal will be served for a donation. And there will be many out-of-this-world baked items. Weather permitting, Kiddieland will be open for your children. You all come out to have a good time and support a great organization.

2. Jan. 22 (Thursday) First annual Interstate-35 Pedestrian Overpass Demonstration near Baylor. I just received the main sign we will be using—4 feet by 36 feet.

This Pro-Life Waco demonstration happens on Roe Day--Thursday, January 22nd from 11:00 - 1:00 pm. We would love to have YOUR participation in this first (but not last) overpass demonstration in Waco. We need pro-lifers to hold signs and draw attention to our signs. Park your car in the lot of the new Chick Fill-A off 6th Street. Then walk less than a block to the entrance to the pedestrian overpass.

3. Jan. 24 - (Saturday) Car pool to the Rally for Life in Austin. Carpool departs at 11:00 am from the St. Mary’s Waco parking lot at 15th and Columbus Ave. Let me know if you would like to join as either a driver and a rider. March up Congress Avenue starts at 1:00 pm. Then speeches at the steps of the capital. We should be back in Waco by 5:00 pm.

4. Jan. 26 (Monday) Pro-Life Waco’s speaker will be Dr. Sandra Hapenney, delivering a much-needed seminar entitled Strategies to Protect Your Teenagers Innocence.

Sandra is a mom, grandmother and a successful teacher at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco. The program is designed for parents, grandparents, pastors, teachers, and ALL who mentor teens now or in the future. Sandra Hapenney has had great success with chastity in her curriculum at Reicher High. Location is Knights of Columbus Hall at 5515 Sanger Avenue. The Hapenney presentation is 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

A free and special Italian meatball sandwich meal will be served from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. All individuals/families attending will receive a free book or CD. You can access a PDF flyer for the seminar here.

Foreign Abortion Groups Worry New U.S. Congress will Establish Limits

WASHINGTON, DC, January 17 (C-Fam) When President Obama rescinded the Mexico City Policy six years ago—one week after his inauguration – he opened the financial floodgates to wealthy abortion providers like Marie Stopes International, International Planned Parenthood Federation, and Population Connection, formerly known as Zero Population Growth.

Now, with a new Republican-controlled Congress settling in, abortion groups fear limits are coming – and are pre-emptively spreading false claims about legislation that would keep tax dollars from subsidizing foreign family planning groups that perform or promote abortion.

They expect Congressman Chris Smith, chairman of the Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Africa and Global Health, to introduce legislation to codify the Mexico City Policy – permanently prohibiting U.S. foreign aid for family planning from going to international groups that promote or commit abortion.

Martin Luther King, Jr. and the March for Life

Next week we once again reflect on two anniversaries: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Many pro-lifers see themselves as heirs to the passion for justice in the civil rights movement. But since his controversial visit to Notre Dame in 2009 President Barack Obama holds an honorary law degree from one of America’s premier Catholic universities. Notre Dame also honored Obama with a photograph of Fr. Theodore Hesburgh, long-time president of Notre Dame who served on the United States Civil Rights Commission, arm-in arm with Martin Luther King, Jr. at a civil rights rally in 1964. The photograph is now in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery—a memorial to Catholic participation in the historic civil rights movement.

But the photograph does not escape the irony behind a great Catholic university’s gift of an honorary law degree to a man whose open support for legalized abortion directly contradicts Catholic support for the natural law. The version of the photograph destined to hang in the National Portrait Gallery cuts out the second priest, on the other side of Martin Luther King—Msgr. Robert Hagerty, who led busloads of Catholics from the Chicago area to the very first March for Life. Msgr. Hagerty is representative of all those Catholics who grasped—with Martin Luther King, Jr.—that fighting for civil rights begins with a recognition of eternal and natural law.

While on the sidewalk for a prayer meeting yesterday, we were discussing the ‘remnant‘ and boots on the ground evangelism, “Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace,” Romans 11:5. One of the faithful said we aren’t just theremnant, WE ARE THE 1%.

I’ve always said we are the remnant within the remnant. Seeing the apathetic ‘church’ do essentially NOTHING, or even worse are those that love to tell you what to do, that you’re doing it wrong…AND STILL DO NOTHING. We can’t live for them or worship for them, we simply do what God calls us to do.
