Extreme Position of Pro-Choice Politicians Contradicts American Consensus

by Carl Anderson
The Daily Signal

Lurking behind the annual split among Americans over the labels “pro-life” and “pro-choice” is a new reality. The fact is that today, whatever label they choose, Americans overwhelmingly support abortion restrictions.

Pro-choice politicians who typically support unrestricted, or almost unrestricted, abortion share the extreme view of a tiny minority of the American people.

Consider this. A majority of Americans who identify as pro-choice (62 percent) say that abortion should be restricted to—at most—the first trimester of pregnancy. Less than a quarter of them (22 percent) want unrestricted abortion.

Among Americans as a whole, the number who want such abortion restrictions is about eight in 10 (78 percent). Only about one in 10 of this group (13 percent) would leave it unrestricted.

‘Consensus Statement’ to Force MDs to Kill

By Wesley J. Smith
National Right to Life News Today

Bioethicists want to force doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to participate in euthanasia, abortion, and other actions that violate their consciences or religious beliefs.

This wasn’t formerly a serious problem. The values contained in the Hippocratic Oath were consistent with sanctity of life moral conscience. That is no longer true.

A “consensus statement” signed by prominent bioethicists from around the world and published by Oxford University would force dissenting doctors to be complicit in such actions. From the statement (my emphasis):

1. Healthcare practitioners’ primary obligations are towards their patients, not towards their own personal conscience. When the patient’s wellbeing (or best interest, or health) is at stake, healthcare practitioners’ professional obligations should normally take priority over their personal moral or religious views.
2. In the event of a conflict between practitioners’ conscience and a patient’s desire for a legal, professionally sanctioned medical service, healthcare practitioners should always ensure that patients receive timely medical care. When they have a conscientious objection, they ought to refer their patients to another practitioner who is willing to perform the treatment. In emergency situations, when referral is not possible, or when it poses too great a burden on patients or on the healthcare system, health practitioners should perform the treatment themselves.

Obama Sends Supporter of Pro-Abortion Obamacare to Canonization of Mother Teresa

By Steven Ertelt
Life News

The Vatican will canonize pro-life heroine Mother Teresa on September 4 on the anniversary of her death.

Mother Teresa was well-respected for her courageous and forthright views against abortion. Famously, the Catholic known also known for her role in helping to feed the hungry and end poverty, said that abortion “is the greatest threat to peace.”

However, President Barack Obama has chosen to dishonor that legacy by sending the head of a Catholic group who supported pro-abortion Obamacare. Obama today announced the designation of a Presidential Delegation to attend the Canonization of Mother Teresa in Vatican City. Included in that group is Sister Donna J. Markham OP, Ph.D., President and CEO, Catholic Charities USA.

Markham was a special assistant to the president of Georgetown University before serving six years as prioress of the activist Adrian Dominican Sisters in Michigan. She also led an association of women religious that was the subject of a recent Vatican investigation and publicly undermined the bishops’ efforts to prevent abortion coverage in Obamacare-affiliated insurance plans.

LifeNews previously reported on information from the Cardinal Newman Society, a pro-life group that tracks Catholic officials and organizations that support abortion:
Sr. Markham left Georgetown to serve as prioress of the Adrian Dominicans, a post she held from 2004 to 2010. During her tenure, the reputation of the congregation for progressive activism was not diminished.
As key participants in the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, Adrian Dominicans have been leaders in the “shareholder movement” to force public companies to disclose political donations and other transactions.
They also have been leaders in environmental activism; it was while Sr. Markham was prioress, in 2008, that Adrian Sister Patricia Siemen, O.P., founded the Earth Law Institute.

Lives in Jeopardy: Abortion Center Security Guard Batters Pro-Life Mom, Drives Drunk

By Karen Myers
Operation Rescue

Wichita, KS - When pro-life mom Jennifer McCoy drove by South Wind Women's Center, an abortion facility in Wichita, Kansas, on July 28, at 9:45 p.m., she thought it was strange that the main gate was open and several employees cars were still present in the parking lot, including the blue pickup truck belonging to security guard Carl Swinney.

Jennifer wondered if a woman had suffered a botched abortion, requiring medical attention. The clinic normally never is open so late.

Jennifer parked, called Mark Gietzen, the local leader of Kansas Coalition for Life who coordinates prayer and sidewalk advocacy on-site, and reported the unusual occurrence to him. Something strange was going on for sure.

While on the phone, Jennifer noticed that an unknown male exited the building and got in his car to leave. Was he a client's friend? A new employee? Medical personnel? Jennifer tried to take a picture as he exited the parking lot, suspecting that a girl was in trouble.

But - whatever was happening inside - moments later, Jennifer herself became a girl in trouble outside.

Mother Teresa to be Canonized on September 4: “Abortion is the Greatest Threat to Peace”

By Stefano Gennarini, J.D.
Life News

(CFAM) Mother Teresa will be declared a Saint by Pope Francis in a special ceremony on Sunday at the Vatican. The pro-life heroine skillfully exploited her celebrity status to propel the pro-life cause internationally like no one else before her or since.

The four feet tall Albanian nun was never afraid to speak truth to power, even when it made the powerful of the world feel uncomfortable, and she never pandered to curry their favor. Draped in her iconic white sari, she traveled the globe condemning abortion even when doing so was inconvenient and unwelcome.

While lunching at the White House, First lady Hillary Clinton reportedly asked Mother Teresa why America had not yet elected a woman president. “She has probably been aborted,” Mother Teresa replied.

During her acceptance speech of the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize Mother Teresa first popularized her signature condemnation of abortion.
“The greatest destroyer of peace today is the cry of the innocent unborn child,” she told the crowd of nobles, politicians, and celebrities. After a moment of deathly silence Mother Teresa continued.
“For if a mother can murder her own child, in her own womb, what is left for you and for me? To kill each other.”
“Today millions of unborn children are being killed, but we say nothing.”
Then she raised her voice with alarm.
“To me the nations that have legalized abortion, they are the poorest nations. They are afraid of the little one! They are afraid of the unborn child! And the child must die. Because they don’t want to feed one more child! Because they don’t want to educate one more child! The child must die.”
She concluded her remarks about abortion with a plea.
“Let us make a strong resolution. We are going to save every little child. Every unborn child. Give them a chance to be born.”
Her plea was not heeded, and she continued to speak for the unborn unabashedly.

The Rights of the Unborn Silenced by the Senate of Chile – and by its President

By Marianna Orlandi, Ph.D
Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam)

After the approval by the House of Representatives, last March, Chile’s new abortion bill is now ready to be approved by the Senate. If the law passes, killing an unborn child will no more be a crime in cases of rape, when the mother’s life is at risk, and when the unborn child suffers a disability likely to be fatal.

Carolina Goic, Senator of the Christian Democratic Party and President of the Senate’s health commission, recently declared that the hearings are now at their final stages, and that the vote could be scheduled for September. The recent hearings, however, have been at the center of the media’s attention and criticism; some even questioned the validity of the hearings.

Catholic Archbishop: “Why are Only a Few Speaking Against Abortion? It’s Also a Form of Murder”

Catholic Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

In response to a deluge of murders in the Philippines, Manila Catholic Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle recently reminded Catholics that they should mourn the innocent lives lost to abortion, too.

Asian Journal reports a staggering 1,800-plus drug-related killings have taken place since the end of June in the island nation. Tagle told Radio Veritas on Sunday that Filipinos are right to call for justice in response to the massive number of drug-related deaths, but they should not forget about the unjust killings of unborn babies in abortions.

“As long as one is alive, whoever he or she is, that life is sacred,” Tagle told the church-run radio station. “I know that the spate of killings is becoming a big issue nowadays — they say, it affects even those who are not guilty, those who are innocent — but whether be a person guilty or not, we should give importance to life. And if a person is already proven guilty, give another chance to live — give chance to rise from old life.
“I hope that we’re also worried about abortion,” he continued. “Why are only a few people speaking against abortion? It’s also a form of murder. Let’s guard against abortion. Those who are not yet born can’t do anything.”

He urged Catholics to “be consistent to promote whole or integral life” and “not be selective,” according to Asian Journal.

The Philippines is one of many pro-life nations under intense pressure to legalize abortion. Last summer, CFAM reported the United Nations and pro-abortion groups demanded that the predominantly Catholic country legalize abortion and make abortion drugs readily available.

Here’s more from the report:

In 2008, Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR), a pro-abortion legal group, asked the UN to investigate an order issued by the mayor of Manila that the Philippine constitution protects the sanctity of life and the lives of mothers and their unborn children.

The Mayor also said the City of Manila would take an “affirmative stand on pro-life issues” and “promote responsible parenthood and uphold natural family planning not just as a method but as a way of self-awareness in promoting the culture of life while discouraging the use of artificial methods of contraception like condoms, pills, intrauterine devices, surgical sterilization, and other.”

In 2012, two members of the UN committee that monitors CEDAW, the women’s rights treaty, traveled to the Philippines to conduct a “confidential inquiry.” This was reportedly a first-of-its-kind investigation.

That same year, after 15 years of intense pressure from family planning advocates, the Filipino Congress passed the “reproductive health law” that lifted a ban on contraceptives and guaranteed post-abortion care for women injured by the procedure.

Abortion remains illegal in the Philippines, though abortion activists continue to pressure the country to change its laws.

Catholic Relief Services Employees Stand With Planned Parenthood?

by Michael Hichborn
Lepanto Institute

Following on the heels of the Lepanto Institute’s latest analysis of employees at Catholic Relief Services comes the discovery that at least four of CRS’s employees “stand” with Planned Parenthood.

Jessica Garrels has been a Program Quality & Business Development coordinator for Catholic Relief Services, stationed in Mali, since 2012. Prior to that, she spent 10 months working as a fellow for CRS in Niger.

On November 28, 2015,Garrels posted a “#StandwithPP” overlay over one of her pictures, indicating that she supports Planned Parenthood and endorses continued government funding of the big-box retail chain of abortion stores. As is indicated in the image below, there are 26 “likes” of this post by Garrels … three of which came from other CRS employees.

The Chairman of the board of Catholic Relief Services is Archbishop Paul Coakley. Please contact Archbishop Coakley and respectfully ask him to clean house at CRS, starting with the removal of employees who act against the Church. As long as CRS employs individuals whose philosophies are completely against Catholic teaching, this problem will only get worse.  Contact him by e-mail at rlewis@archokc.org or by phone at 405-721-5651 Ext. 157.

The Lepanto Institute for the Restoration of All Things in Christ is a research and education organization dedicated to the defense of the Catholic Church against assaults from without as well as from within. Whether in the form of armies, heretics, or traitors, the Church has always faced enemies seeking Her destruction. Today, the Church faces all three.  For more information, please use this link.

Where do the Pennsylvania Candidates for U.S. Senate Stand on Life Issues?

"Let me tell you why I believe abortion is the crucial issue of our age. First, because abortion, too, is about living within the truth. The right to life is the foundation of every other human right. If that right is not inviolate, then no right can be guaranteed. Or to put it more bluntly: Homicide is homicide, no matter how small the victim." ~ Most Reverend Charles Chaput, Archbishop of Philadelphia

“Truly children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3)
