NJRTL PAC INFORMATION FOR NOVEMBER 7, 2017 ELECTION

Polls are open 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.

from Marie Tasy, Executive Director
New Jersey Right to Life

NOVEMBER 7, 2017 - NEW JERSEY ELECTION

Tuesday, November 7, 2017, is the General Election. Voters will go to the polls to elect their State Senator, 2 Assembly Members and the next NJ Governor. Please click HERE:  for a list of our endorsed candidates for Senate and Assembly and please vote for these candidates if they are on your ballot.. We have learned that hundreds of thousands of dollars are being been poured into the districts of many of our strong, pro-life candidates at the last minute to try to defeat them so it is more important than ever that we get out the vote for our pro-life women and men running for election and re-election in these districts. Please share this information with friends and families and please consider taking neighbors and relatives to the polls to vote on Tuesday, November 7th. The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thank you.

NJ Governor's Race

The two major party candidates running for Governor are Republican Kim Guadagno and Democrat Philip Murphy. Philip Murphy has served as Finance Chair of the Democratic National Committee, helping to elect Barack Obama. Kim Guadagno has served as Governor Chris Christie's Lieutenant Governor for the last 8 years.

As we have seen with past state and federal elections, who we elect matters a great deal regarding the ability to save precious lives. The race will be won by one of the two major party candidates. Both major party candidates have taken a pro-choice stance, but there are stark differences between the two candidates on issues that are important to pro-life voters and will save lives.

Please review the following carefully and vote for the Candidate for Governor who is more in sync with pro-life values, public policy and legislation.

Kim Guadagno ( R )
Kim Guadagno will not use Taxpayer Dollars to fund Planned Parenthood and will sign the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act which will Ban Late Term Abortions. She is a proud and vocal advocate for increasing access to adoptions for families.

She has chosen Mayor Carlos Rendo as her Lt. Governor running mate, who is strongly Pro-life.

For the last 8 years, Governor Christie has saved countless lives and spared taxpayers from waste, fraud and abuse by eliminating taxpayer dollars that were used by previous administrations to fund Parenthood, while at the same time, ensuring that women's health was being funded through Federally Qualified Health Centers. Unlike Phil Murphy, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno said she would continue Governor Christie's pro-life policy and not use our taxpayer dollars to fund Planned Parenthood as long as they do abortions.

If elected, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno has told us she would advocate for and sign the NJ Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (A3452/S2026). This is a high priority issue for the Pro-life Community.

The NJ bill is sponsored by NJ Assemblyman Ron Dancer and NJ Assemblyman Anthony Bucco. The Senate version is sponsored by Senator Steve Oroho and Senator JoePennacchio. The NJ bill is also co-sponsored by a number of other pro-life Senators and Assembly Members who we endorsed and are listed below in this PolitiTracker.

This legislation would limit late term abortions performed at 20 weeks post fertilization (22 weeks gestation) and later, based on the substantial scientific evidence that babies at least at this stage can feel pain.

The NJ bill is based on the Federal Bill, H.R. 36, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on October 3rd of this year and is awaiting a vote in the U.S. Senate.

Please click this link HERE to read NJ Congressman Chris Smith's excellent remarks on H.R. 36, The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act given on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives during the debate on the bill. Congressman Chris Smith is one of the original sponsors of the federal bill.

Phil Murphy ( D)
Phil Murphy has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood and is 100% pro-abortion and will use taxpayer money to fund Planned Parenthood. He has chosen Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver as his pick for Lt. Governor.

Assemblywoman Oliver has a 100% Pro- abortion voting record and was also endorsed by Planned Parenthood.

Phil Murphy has said funding Planned Parenthood is the Number 1 issue of his campaign.

WHAT AN ENDORSEMENT FROM PLANNED PARENTHOOD MEANS
It means a candidate must support abortion on demand (including late term abortions), be opposed to any restrictions or limitations on abortion and pledge to use the power of their office to force taxpayers to fund Planned Parenthood. True to form, Murphy has repeatedly vowed publicly to not only replenish the $7.45M in taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood that were eliminated in the budget by Governor Christie for the last 8 years, but promised to even expand the amount they will receive in taxpayer dollars if elected.

While accepting Planned Parenthood's endorsement, Murphy said, "We stand with Planned Parenthood and we'll be on the right side of history." He also added, "You have my word, no matter what."

The statement by Murphy that he will support Planned Parenthood "no matter what" is especially disturbing considering their disgraceful record.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S RECORD:

The organization is currently under FBI investigation for breaking the law by selling baby body parts for profit and their track record here in NJ demonstrates a similar disregard for the law.

SEX TRAFFICKING OF MINORS
In 2011, a Planned Parenthood manager in Perth Amboy, NJ was caught on videotape aiding and abetting the sex trafficking of minors.

OPERATING UNSAFE CLINICS

A 2011 inspection performed by the surveyors from the Dept. of Health found 39 deficiencies for Planned Parenthood of Mercer County for, among other things, improper use of syringes and compounds, failure to have an infection control pro- gram in place, failure to have hot running water in the facility, improper use of and sterilization of medical instruments and devices, including a vaginal ultrasound and several other sanitary and safety violations involving patient care and many other administrative deficiencies. This facility also provides "family planning services."

Similar deficiencies during this same period were also found at Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey in Shrewsbury which, like the Mercer facility, performs surgical abortions and "family planning services."(Source: OPRA Records obtained by NJRTL).

These abuses subjected an untold number of NJ women to all kinds of health risks, including STDs, pelvic and uterine infec- tion and disease, all conditions Planned Parenthood is so quick to claim they work to prevent.

WASTE, FRAUD & ABUSE

An audit performed during the Corzine administration by the Federal Office of Inspector General (OIG) found that NJ Planned Parenthood clinics billed Medicaid for services that did not qualify as family planning. The charges amounted to $2,219,746 which the state was ordered to pay back to the Federal Government. The Corzine adminstration did not publicly disclose this information and did not penalize Planned Parenthood, but instead continued to increase millions in taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood every year in the budget. (Source:https://oig.hhs.gov/oas/reports/regi on2/20601010.pdf - see p.5 of the Audit).

Flowers Signal New Life Outside Closed Abortion Center

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

A curious photo made the rounds of Facebook the other week. It depicted a multi-colored bouquet of flowers, propped up outside the door of the Hillcrest Women's Medical Center. The Harrisburg abortion center had to close its doors several weeks ago after management gave up its license to do abortions.

The relinquishing of the license came after Hillcrest failed to correct 44 pages worth of health and safety violations, as documented in a report by inspectors from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The violations ran the gamut--from the abortionist failing to produce proper credentials to medical supplies that were years past their "use by" date.

The photo triggered a host of questions: Who left the flowers? Why? What message were the flowers supposed to convey?

Mary B. reasoned, "Obviously in memory of the thousands upon thousands of innocent babes that were murdered there. God have mercy on us all."

Mary S. offered, "Praying for all the innocents killed."

Connie C. thought the flowers might be a token of a mother's affection: "Maybe a mother who lost her child there."

Meanwhile, Joy C. envisioned what could lay in store for the building where thousands of preborn children lost their lives: "Wouldn’t it be fabulous to turn that building into a memorial. Flowers flowers everywhere."

The fate of Hillcrest remains unknown. But it is well-documented what happened there: abortion after abortion, over a period of decades. Countless numbers of women left to grieve children they would never hold in their arms. And operating conditions which were so squalid they ultimately led to the abortion facility's downfall.

The flowers left outside the building could be a sign of the beauty that entered Hillcrest's doors--the beautiful mothers and babies, who left completely victimized. The bouquet stands as a stark contrast to the utter ugliness that is abortion, the taking of an innocent, unrepeatable, precious human life.

May that single bouquet be a symbol of hope--for the women who now regret their abortions and seek healing...for the men who mourn their lost fatherhood...and for all who were touched by the massive tragedy that occurred at Hillcrest.

The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, Inc., is committed to promoting the dignity and value of human life from conception to natural death and to restoring legal protection for preborn children. Through legislation, political action, education and other legal means, we proclaim the truth about abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia.  For more information or to find out how you can become involved, please use this link.

Judge Halts California Law Forcing Pro-Lifers to Advertise Abortions

“Lives will be saved because of this ruling.”

By Jay Hobbs
National Right to Life

In a major victory for free speech, Riverside County Superior Court Justice Gloria C. Trask ruled late Monday that California must not force pro-life pregnancy medical clinics to post signage promoting state-covered abortions to their clients.

A permanent injunction that applies to over 200 privately funded pregnancy centers in the state that offer free alternatives to abortion, the ruling puts a stop to the state’s so-called “Reproductive FACT Act”—a 2015 law that mandated pro-life centers must post signage and inform clients about the state’s taxpayer-funded abortions and birth control through its Medi-Cal program.

“We are thrilled with Judge Trask’s ruling, which is a huge victory for free speech,” Scott Scharpen, the head administrator of “Go Mobile For Life,” a mobile ultrasound unit that serves women in Riverside County, said. “The whole notion of being compelled to share information with our patients about abortion availability, which is contrary to our mission and purpose, is fundamentally wrong."
“Lives will be saved because of this ruling.”

Pushed through on a purely party-line vote in 2015, the law has only been enforced in one jurisdiction—the city of Los Angeles—but has served as a template for other Democrat-controlled states—including Hawaii and Connecticut—to crack down on pro-life pregnancy centers that offer free services to expectant mothers.

California’s “Freedom of Mind” Protection

Pro-life advocates, including Alliance Defending Freedom and National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA)—who are currently waiting on the U.S. Supreme Court to take up a statewide appeal to the law—have argued since the bill’s inception in the State Assembly that it tramples on the constitutionally protected rights of free speech and free religious expression.

Prior to Monday, those arguments fell on deaf ears throughout an appeals process that including an affirmation by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals—the most frequently reversed court in the U.S.

Unlike the previous appeals—which appealed to the U.S. Constitution—Scharpen and his legal team of Tyler & Bursch, LLP and Advocates for Faith & Freedom had appealed to the court on the basis that the law violates California’s 1849 Declaration of Rights, which guarantees the “individual freedom of mind.”

In her ruling Monday, Trask agreed that the Reproductive FACT Act violates free speech protections, noting that, “compelled speech of a political or cultural nature is not the tool of a free government.”

President Trump May Name Top Pro-Life Advocate as Global Women’s Issues Ambassador

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

Pro-life conservative leader Penny Young Nance may be President Donald Trump’s next ambassador at large for global women’s issues.

Nance, the president of Concerned Women for America, is a strong pro-life advocate who would continue to fight to protect women and girls, from the moment of conception, in the new role.

Two congressional aids recently said Trump is considering Nance for the position, Politico reports. The position through the Department of State involves overseeing programs to fight violence against women and girls, and promote educational and economic opportunities for them.

If nominated, she would add to the growing list of pro-life advocates who Trump has appointed to his administration. Teresa Manning and Charmaine Yoest, both of whom previously worked for prominent pro-life groups, are among the others.

Nance has been a bold and compassionate advocate for unborn babies and moms through her conservative Christian organization.

“We are told that abortion is not a big deal; that it’s a humane choice for the unborn baby; and that to be anti-abortion is to be anti-women. Guess what? None of this is true. And it’s time we got the facts straight,” she wrote in 2016.
“It is with compassion that we must share the facts and speak our minds,” Nance continued. “This is not about winning a theoretical argument; it is about the suffering of women, the loss of children, and the need to find compassionate, effective answers to a terrible national stain.”

Another one of Nance’s priorities has been to promote economic success for women and their children through expanded child tax credits.

Politico reports:

She has worked behind-the-scenes with Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and adviser, to help her find support for one of her causes: expanding the child tax credit. Concerned Women for America has long supported the credit dating back to the mid-1990s.

In early October, Nance told POLITICO that she and Ivanka Trump “agreed to work together to again increase the child tax credit in order to allow families to keep more of their own money and to free up their ability to invest in their children.”

Abortion activists already are groaning about her potential nomination.

Newborn Baby Girl Found in Dumpster With Umbilical Cord Still Attached

Life News files photo of baby

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

A newborn baby girl found in a dumpster in Texas is doing well in an Austin hospital two days after passers by saved the infant’s life.

KXAN News reports two people found the girl early Wednesday morning in a dumpster at the Mira Vista Apartment in Austin, Texas. Local police said if the infant had stayed in the dumpster much longer, she may not have survived.

Teresa Reese was one of the neighbors who found her. The local resident said she saw a man looking in the dumpster when she was getting her daughter ready for school, and decided to go over and ask what was wrong.

Reese said she was shocked to see a newborn baby with her umbilical cord still attached laying inside the dumpster; she said the man was on the phone with police.

“I just started crying hysterically,” Reese said. “It looked to me like she was crying but nothing was coming out, but I wanted to hear the words that she was alive so the minute they said she was alive, I just started praising God. My life will never be the same because of this experience… No child should ever have to go through that.”

Austin Police Officer Destiny Winston said the baby was in critical condition when they arrived. On Friday, KVUE News reported the baby now is in fair condition at the hospital.

“Without the 911 call, the baby may not have been discovered in time,” Winston said.

On Friday, police said they found the baby’s mother. However, they did not provide more information about her, saying their investigation continues.

In August, two similar infant abandonment cases occurred in Houston, Texas and New York state.

In Houston, a local resident discovered a newborn girl covered in ants in the bushes after he heard her crying. Police said the man cleaned her off and held her until authorities arrived.

Police said they quickly found the mother, a 21-year-old living in the apartment complex, when they followed a trail of blood near the baby. The newborn appeared to be in good health. According to the local news, child welfare officials placed her with a foster family.

Several days earlier, sisters in Elmira, New York also found an abandoned baby in a garbage bag in their neighborhood. Police estimated that the 8-month-old girl had survived in the plastic bag for about three days before the sisters found her, Fox 59 News reports.

When authorities arrived, they took the baby to a local hospital for treatment. The Washington Post reports the baby later was transported to another hospital, but eventually she was well enough to be released into the care of a foster family.

Police found the baby’s mother and charged her with attempted second-degree murder.

All 50 states have safe haven laws to protect newborn babies from abandonment and infanticide. Save haven laws allow mothers in crisis to leave their newborns in a safe environment, such as a hospital or fire station, without questions or repercussions.

Between 2004 and 2011, about 50 infants in Texas were surrendered under its safe haven law, according to the Dallas Morning News. National statistics are not kept about the number of babies saved through safe haven laws.

If you or someone you know would like more information about relinquishing a newborn child, please call 1-866-99BABY1 or go to www.SafeHavenLaw.com.
