Largest 40 Days for Life Campaign Ends With 492 Babies Saved From Abortion

The largest 40 Days for Life campaign so far has ended – and here’s a huge thank you for helping save so many lives!

Reports are still coming in … but local 40 Days for Life leaders tell us that as of now, they’re aware of 492 mothers in 375 locations around the world who have rejected abortion and chosen life for their babies!

In many cases, all it took was the simple act of showing up to pray on the sidewalk.

Greensboro, North Carolina

“One day we were praying, just praying – not counseling, but just praying,” said Salvador in Greensboro.

As they prayed, they saw a young woman drive into the abortion center’s parking lot. But a few minutes she parked right in front of the 40 Days for Life vigil participants and got out of her car.

“She told me she needed prayers,” Salvador said. “I asked if she was there for an abortion and she said ‘yes,’ so we stared praying with her.”

After they prayed, the volunteers talked with her about pregnancy resources in the Greensboro area. “I gave her a brochure,” Salvador said, “and she left!”

Winnipeg, Manitoba

While Maria was praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil in Winnipeg, she was approached by a smiling woman.

“She said she was against abortion,” Maria said, “but her daughter was in the hospital for an abortion referral. Her daughter had gotten pregnant while in a relationship with an abusive, drug-addicted man.”

Maria asked the mother about adoption, and she replied that she was prepared to raise the child herself. “I assured her of our prayers and she went inside.”

A short time later, the woman came out to tell the volunteers she was bringing her daughter home. The younger woman was rethinking the situation. “The mom was smiling widely,” Maria said. “Praise the Lord!”

Congressman Shows Ultrasound of 18-Week-Old Unborn Baby During Hearing, Abortion Activists Look Away

"...but the ultrasound proves beyond any doubt that Life is present every time there is a Heartbeat."

During a Congressional hearing today on a bill to ban abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy, a pro-life Congressman showed an ultrasound of an 18-week-old unborn baby. Congressman Steve King of Iowa showed the ultrasound and audio of the baby’s heartbeat.

During the footage, Rep. Pramila Jayapal can be seen frequently looking away from the screen and avoiding watching it. Meanwhile pro-abortion Yale Professor Priscilla Smith stares straight ahead pretty much the entire time the ultrasound is shown.

King’s office says it’s the first time an unborn babies has “testified” before Congress.

“On November 1, 2017, Chairman Steve King allowed the testimony of unborn child Lincoln Glenn Miller, via ultrasound, into the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice Hearing on HR 490, the Heartbeat Protection Act. It is believed that Miller, aged 18 weeks, is the youngest person to ever offer testimony at a Congressional hearing,” King’s office said.

King said: “The 14th Amendment codifies the language of our Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson set up prioritized rights in our Declaration with this more familiar language, “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” 

"In both cases, Life is the paramount right and cannot be taken without due process. Liberty is a right secondary to Life. No one in exercising their right to Liberty has a legitimate Constitutional or moral claim to take the Life of another."

"The question before us, since America has held the right to Life as a sacred right from God (endowed by their Creator), the question before us is not, “Can the Lives of innocent babies be taken in exercising the right to the Liberty of the mother?” But rather, “At what instant does Life begin?” Science cannot precisely pinpoint the instant of conception but the ultrasound proves beyond any doubt that Life is present every time there is a Heartbeat."

How dare you judge them! Planned Parenthood saved my life!”

Paula, a dedicated prayer volunteer in Orange, California, shared a powerful story with me during my visit there.

She said a very hostile woman approached her and began yelling at her for “judging and harassing” Planned Parenthood. She claimed they saved her life when they aborted her baby 20 years ago.

When the woman stopped, Paula calmly and compassionately looked at her and said, “They didn’t save you. They killed your baby.”

The woman got upset and left. As Paula prayed for her, she came back, looked at Paula with a different demeanor, and said, 

“Why were you not out here for me when I went in for my abortion? No one was here.”

Paula told me, “I felt guilty. I should have been here for her. I am in my sixties … and the reality is that 20 years ago, I could have been here for her. But I wasn’t. I was too timid to come out here back then.”

Paula said she shares this story to get more people to overcome their fear to come out and pray. And volunteers have come out to pray in Orange!

Kiersten, the local leader, has many churches and pastors coming out to this massive Planned Parenthood center in Orange. This was the site where baby Milagros was saved with the help of Alejandra, Marty and Graciela. Milagros is featured in the 40 Days for Life book. Marty and Graciela still come out faithfully.

Miranda Was Pressured to Have an Abortion, But One Thing Saved Her Baby’s Life

"I said, this is a true, living thing. It’s not just a clump of cells that’s not moving and not living."

One of the scariest things for a teenager to face is an unexpected crisis pregnancy. And that’s exactly the situation Miranda found herself in. She wasn’t ready to be a mother. Her boyfriend was pressuring her to have an abortion. But thanks to one simple action from a nurse at a pregnancy resource center, Miranda’s preborn baby was saved.

“I bought a pregnancy test. I took it and it said positive, and I was shocked,” Miranda recalled. “I was like, ‘how could this happen to me?'” So Miranda contacted her boyfriend to let him know that she was pregnant. “And he said, ‘Okay, don’t worry about it. We’ll take care of it’,” she continued. He wanted her to have an abortion.

At first, Miranda didn’t question his decision. 

“I was finishing school, you know, I had my life ahead of me,” she explained. “How was I going to have a baby? How was I going to get pregnant and how was I going to explain it to my parents?” 

Miranda went to one of her friends for support, who went online to find resources for her. She found a pregnancy center, and that was where Miranda went. That visit would be what saved her baby’s life.

“The last thing that they did during the visit was give me an ultrasound,” she said. “And I could see on the screen next to me that there was this little… it looked like a bean. I called it a jumping bean. And it was just moving around, and it was jumping up and down. And so right at that moment, I changed my mind and I saw — I said, this is a true, living thing. It’s not just a clump of cells that’s not moving and not living. There is something living and growing and moving inside me already.”

Miranda eventually told her mother, who recommended that she go to Focus on the Family. “I started becoming more open to adoption,” Miranda said. “I knew that I needed another option, because parenting wasn’t going to be the best option for me.” 

So she met a couple, and began considering an open adoption plan with them. Nine months later, she gave birth to Hope, a healthy baby girl, who now attends elementary school and is being raised by Susan and Alex, the couple Miranda chose to be Hope’s parents.

Nations Push Back against U.N. Human Rights Committee Attempt to Redefine the ‘Right to Life’

A number of states have pushed back against an attempt by the United Nations Human Rights Committee to reinterpret the ‘right to life’ to mean a right to abortion.

This past July, the Committee approved a draft of General Comment No. 36 at its first reading. General Comment No. 36 seeks to reinterpret the ‘right to life’ to exclude the unborn child in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The Human Right Committee is tasked with monitoring the implementation of the of the ICCPR.

Several state parties[1] have come out against the Committee’s latest General Comment and have made it clear to the Committee that it has no right or authority to claim that states must legalize abortion.

In General Comment No. 36, paragraph 9, the Committee claims article 6 obligates states to legalize abortion in cases of health, rape, incest, fetal disability, and “in situations in which carrying a pregnancy to term would cause the woman substantial pain or suffering.”[2]

Far from guaranteeing a “right” to abortion, however, article 6 of the ICCPR recognizes the universal right to life and states:

Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life.[3]

Several states and numerous civil society organizations, including PRI, were keen to point out that the Committee possesses no authority to reinterpret the treaty to a mean something other than what has been agreed to by state parties.

By now, you've likely seen the news concerning the leaked memo that explains the Trump Administration's wishes to cut funding for contraception and abortion overseas while increasing funding for fertility based awareness methods (FABMs), especially for young girls. WSFT celebrated this news, because knowledge of how our fertility works is empowering to women. It also provided a great opportunity to correct the record about the effectiveness of FABMs

This week's What's Speaking To Us addresses some of the myths that have been circulating regarding FABMs, as well as some resources for those wishing to promote FABMs more.

A Doctor's Perspective On The Effectiveness of FABMs 

Writing for the Washington Examiner, Dr. Marguerite Duane, a family physician and a WSFT media trained member set the record straight concerning the effectiveness of FABMs. Responding to a Newsweek article that conflated FABMs with the "rhythm method," Dr. Duane's piece is a great resource to share with anyone who is unfamiliar with the effectiveness of FABMs.

 From Dr. Duane's article:

"The real effectiveness rates of modern FABMs with correct use range between 95.2 percent and 99.6 percent, based on the highest-quality published medical research. Even with typical use, the unintended pregnancy rates range from 2-14 percent per year, which are comparable to most commonly used forms of birth control. However, unlike conventional birth control methods, the World Health Organization recognizes FABMs as the only family planning methods that have no medical side effects."

Moral Shingles Vaccine FDA Approved

Shingrix, made by Glaxo SmithKline (GSK) pharmaceutical company is produced using Chinese hamster cells, unlike Merck’s Zostavax which uses aborted fetal cells.

“Until now, people wanting to have protection from shingles have had to either use Merck’s aborted fetal version or abstain entirely”, stated Debi Vinnedge, Executive Director at Children of God for Life. “We are thrilled that GSK has finally given the US a moral option!”

Does the Gospel Matter When Helping Women and Men Choose Life?

Is the pregnancy center an "emergency room?" Should pro-life people spend time and energy trying to convert a woman who is considering abortion?

Though one does not need to be a Christian to believe that children in the womb deserve protection, Gallup tells us that most pro-life people identify as Christians . This makes sense. After all, Jesus Christ said that His disciples were to love “the least of these.” The Apostle James wrote that the religion that is faultless and pure is to care for orphans and widows. David wrote in the Psalms that God knits us together in our mother’s wombs and that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

So while not everyone who says they are “pro-life” is a believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, many believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ are pro-life.

Though the Gospel is a driving force behind much of the pro-life movement, more and more pro-lifers are questioning its efficacy in pregnancy center ministry. Why spend time and energy trying to convert a woman who is considering abortion? They argue that our time is better spent getting pregnant women to choose life for their babies; salvation can come at a later date. Women considering abortion are in crisis, making pregnancy centers an “emergency room.” You don’t share the gospel in an “emergency room”; you quickly fix the problem and move on to the next problem.

Frightful: Look Where Jane Doe Had Her Abortion

McAllen, Texas - Controversy swirled recently over the case of an unaccompanied 17-year old undocumented teen from an unnamed South American country who had been taken into Federal custody. Of all the thousands of undocumented people detained after crossing illegally into this country, why did the ACLU get involved and push her case into the national headlines? The girl was pregnant and wanted an abortion.

The ACLU aggressively sued the Trump administration on behalf of "Jane Doe" to force the Federal government to assist her in obtaining an abortion. Unfortunately, the ALCU prevailed. Last week, Jane Doe was escorted to the Whole Women's Health facility in McAllen, Texas, where she received an abortion at approximately 16 weeks into her pregnancy.

"We know quite a bit about this McAllen facility. We centered an investigation there in 2010. The results were shocking," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. "I wouldn't take my dog to such a place."

"No Abortions in South Bend" Campaign Continues

Digital Ads, Radio Ads, Billboards and More Will Alert Residents 

to Potential Abortion Chain Opening in Their Community

     

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Indiana Right to Life and St. Joseph Right to Life announce additional avenues to continue its "No Abortions in South Bend" campaign. The organizations are leading the effort to keep an out-of-state abortion facility from opening in South Bend. South Bend has been abortion-free since Nov. 2015 when Dr. Ulrich Klopfer, the abortion doctor who had his medical license suspended for health and safety violations, ceased doing abortions there.

Texas-based Whole Woman's Health Alliance applied for an Indiana abortion license on Oct. 6. The organization, which has had its own share of health and safety violations, is seeking waivers from the state of Indiana so it doesn't have to comply with portions of Indiana's abortion law.

Indiana Right to Life and St. Joseph County Right to Life announced the attempt to bring abortions to South Bend on Oct. 12. Since then, thousands of concerned citizens have signed their petition, generating nearly 30,000 messages to elected officials. The petition reads:

"I just learned that a new abortion business is trying to open in South Bend. I oppose the killing of unborn children and urge you to do everything within your power to keep an abortion clinic out of South Bend. Please act now - lives depend on it."

Today the pro-life organizations announce additional campaigns to stop abortions in South Bend. A digital campaign buy will ensure local residents within a 15-mile radius of South Bend see banner ads on applications, Google searches and more through November. This digital campaign comes on top of social media ads running on popular platforms.

Further, billboards and yard signs will soon appear throughout the South Bend area, directing observers to speak out about abortions in their community.

Finally, a radio campaign will begin next week, reaching South Bend area listeners. All the awareness tools are credited to the generous response of the pro-life community who do not want to see abortions in St. Joseph County.

On Oct. 23, U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (IN-2), whose district includes South Bend, wrote to Indiana's new Health Commissioner, Dr. Kristina Box, urging the state to reject the application for a new abortion facility in South Bend. Indiana Senator Joe Zakas (District 11), also took action by writing Gov. Eric Holcomb to reject the abortion facility, on Oct. 18. Sen. Zakas shared he heard from more than 200 constituents in just one weekend following the news of the abortion business's application.

"We are committed to alerting South Bend residents that an out-of-state abortion chain is trying to profit off ending the lives of unborn children in their community," said Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. "A news report in South Bend this week cited abortion facility leaders, saying they are ready to open any day. This is wholly disingenuous. The facility's application for a license is pending and we will continue to oppose its opening for however long it takes."

"St. Joseph County has always been a very pro-life community," said Tom Gill, President of St. Joseph County Right to Life. "We hope everyone in and around this area will take an active role in fighting this deadly invasion from an out-of-state abortion chain. Women and families in this community are blessed with an abundance of resources that stand ready to assist them in any crisis. We simply don't need abortion here."
