City Fines Pro-Life Pregnancy Center $2,000 For Not Posting Pro-Abortion Notice on Its Door

By Jay Hobbs
Life News

In the latest chapter of a saga that dates back to 2011, Chris Slattery of EMC Pregnancy Centers found himself before a New York City administrative court judge Dec. 13, pushing back against a $2,000 fine levied by the City’s consumer affairs department.

At stake is a disclaimer the City says Slattery’s center must post—in both English and Spanish—at its entrance, as well as on all website pages and website advertisements, declaring the following:

“This facility does not have a licensed medical provider on site to provide or supervise all services.”

The main problem with the City-mandated disclaimer—and the reason Slattery has refused to post it at his locations in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens—is that it isn’t true.

In fact, EMC—which operates under the larger umbrella “Evergreen Association”—does employ medical providers who are on site for the center’s free ultrasound and STI testing services, which are offered throughout the week on a rotating basis.

In the Bronx, where inspectors from the City’s consumer affairs visited three times this fall, EMC offers its medical services on Tuesdays and Fridays, all under the supervision of licensed medical professionals.

On days where EMC isn’t staffed with a medical professional, it offers peer counseling, self-administered pregnancy tests and material support including diapers and baby formula. In a twist of irony, that description puts EMC outside the City’s own official definition of a “pregnancy services center,” and thus, exempt from the law itself.
“We could certainly put up signs, but if we did, they would be false and misleading,” Slattery, who started the organization in 1985, said. “The position New York City is taking is that if you don’t have full-time medical supervision every hour you’re open—even if you’re only giving out diapers or clothes on other days of the week, then you’re in violation as a non-medical facility.”
A Bureaucrat’s Dream

The sole vestige of the City’s Local Law 17—which the U.S. Second Court of Appeals excoriated in its 2014 decision, Evergreen Association (et al) v. City of New York, as “a bureaucrat’s dream”—the requirement is also being leveraged against Avail NYC in Manhattan, which has a hearing scheduled before the same administrative court in January.

Originally, the law essentially forced pregnancy centers to refer women seeking help away from their own offices, while mandating that they prominently advertise the services they do not offer, including abortion and abortion referrals, the morning-after abortion pill or prenatal care.

In what Slattery and others hope to be a preview of an upcoming case before the U.S. Supreme Court, National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra, the circuit court struck down all of those requirements in January of 2014.

49 Abortion Clinics Closed in 2017, 77% of All Abortion Clinics Open in 1991 Have Shut Down

By Cheryl Sullenger
Life News

In a year that abortion businesses attempted to expand in America, the actual number of abortion facilities decreased by 27 clinics over 2016 totals.

Closures far outpaced newly opened abortion facilities in 2017. In all, 49 abortion facilities — 35 surgical and 14 medication only clinics — closed or halted abortion services. Only eight new surgical abortion facilities were opened, along with eleven new medication abortion facilities.

There was also some movement between categories. Fourteen surgical abortion facilities now only conduct medication abortions, while five medication abortion facilities added surgical abortions.

These encouraging statistics and more were verified through an annual survey of abortion facilities conducted by Operation Rescue staff, this year with the assistance of Abortion Free New Mexico.

“Operation Rescue’s annual surveys provide the most complete and accurate picture of abortion facilities available — straight from the horse’s mouth,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.

Methods

Each year, Operation Rescue surveys each abortion facility in the U.S. using a number of investigative methods. Each facility was directly contacted. Abortion facility personnel voluntarily verified that abortions were available, and shared information on abortion pricing and wait times, although they were not aware the information was going to Operation Rescue.

By the Numbers

In 2017, there are 704 abortion facilities remaining in the U.S. Of these, 490 offer surgical abortions, often along with medication abortions. There are 214 facilities that offer only medication abortions.

Forty-five percent of all states had at least one abortion facility that closed or halted all abortion services this year.

Surgical abortion clinics decreased in number by 26% since 2009, the first year Operation Rescue began keeping records. Overall, there has been a 17% decrease in the total number of abortion facilities in America since 2009.

Since 1991, when there were 2,176 active surgical abortion facilities, only 23% of that number of surgical clinics are operating today.

“Pill Mills”

Abortion facilities that offer only abortion-inducing drugs, also known by pro-life activists as “pill mills,” held steady at the same number as in 2016. Closures balanced evenly with new opens and clinics that dropped surgical abortions in favor of the abortion pills.

Medication abortions involve a two-drug cocktail comprised of Mifepristone, also known as the RU486 Abortion Pill, and Misoprostol, a drug that causes strong and often unpredictable uterine contractions. A very small number of facilities provide medication abortions via injection of Methotraxate, a chemotherapy drug that causes abortions, albeit much less efficiently than the Abortion Pill cocktail.

“Abortion facilities that provide only abortion drugs comprise an increasing slice of an ever-shrinking piece of the abortion pie,” said Newman. “While surgical facilities are closing at an impressive rate, pill mills are holding their own.

How Grasping the Sanctity of Life is a Gateway to the Love of God

At your weakest, most vulnerable moment, before any human being could have recognized you as a person—let alone seen you as attractive or desirable—even then, God delighted in you.

By Suzanne Maynes
Pregnancy Help News

“I don’t get it,” said “Courtney,” a young woman seeking to recover from childhood sexual abuse. “If I don’t love myself because of the stuff I know about myself, how can God love me if He knows everything about me?”

She swiped a tear from her cheek.

Courtney was part of a small group of college-aged women seeking help from past trauma. These courageous young women were learning to connect the dots between what had happened to them and their low self-worth and relational challenges.

On this particular night, each hit an emotional wall. Though they believed God loved them on an intellectual level, it was another matter for that truth to drop from each woman’s head to her heart.

Each woman had bought the lie that she was damaged goods, unworthy of love. Each woman struggled to grasp how God could truly love her.  It’s a common dilemma, isn’t it? How many of us fail to comprehend—more importantly, accept and embrace—the love of God?

Father, help me, I prayed silently. Give me wisdom to help them accept Your acceptance. Inspiration came. I turned to my daughter-in-law and co-leader.

“When Lainey was born,” I asked, referring to Jamé’s 10-month-old baby girl, “What could she do for you?”

Jamé smiled and shook her head. “Nothing,” she replied.

“But she did mess her diapers, right?” I pressed. “And she cried a lot, even at night when you were exhausted?”

“She still does,” Jamé laughed.

“Since she can’t do a thing for you, and she is so messy and noisy and needy,” I said, “Why do you love her?”

Jamé thought for a moment, then beamed. “Because… she’s mine.”

I turned to the girls and told them one at a time, “God says ‘You’re mine…You’re mine … You’re mine.” The light of revelation began to dawn in each woman’s eyes.

We read from Psalm 139:

“You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain….

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

I shared how, even before these young women were born, God planned, designed and carefully crafted each one of these women. He loved them as zygotes and embryos and fetuses, long before they ever entertained the twisted notion that they somehow needed to earn His love.

They already bore His image even then. They already delighted His heart. And nothing in their lives or circumstances—nothing—would change that.

Senator Brooks Responds to Pa. Governor Wolf's Veto of Senate Bill 3 ( Ban on Dismemberment Abortion)

Sen. Michele Brooks (R-Crawford County), sponsor of Senate Bill 3, responded to the governor’s veto with the following statement:

“I am extremely disappointed with the Governor’s veto and the misinformation that opponents have spread about the bill. But my greatest disappointment is that we will be unable to protect so many babies in the future, who will never know the joy of living in this world.

One of the biggest myths about this bill is that it would ban all D and E procedures; it would not.

The people who say this legislation is ‘radical’ and ‘cruel’ are the same people who believe it is acceptable to tear the arms and legs off a six-month-old baby in utero. That’s cruel and radical. I find it radical and cruel for the governor to protect someone on death row who could have raped and murdered women, but pulling a baby apart limb from limb is somehow acceptable, and they are innocent.

After talking to doctors, they have confirmed that testing can be done at 17 or 18 weeks of the pregnancy, thus providing mothers and fathers with the medical information they need to make informed choices.

Thanks to the latest advances in technology, a baby can survive outside the womb much earlier than 24 weeks. Our laws must now catch up with science. Rolling back the legal age of viability from 24 to 20 weeks updates the law to reflect the latest advancements in fetal and maternal medicine.

I’ve spoken with doctors who agree with this legislation and say testing can be done at 18 weeks and before.

It is important to argue about facts, and not merely parrot the talking points of Planned Parenthood.

My prayers are with the governor that one day his heart will soften and he will understand how horrific the dismemberment abortion procedure is.”

Doctor Accused of Slipping Abortion Pill Into Pregnant Girlfriend's Tea, Killing Baby

By Samuel Smith
Christian Post

A New York woman is speaking out after her boyfriend of three years killed their unborn child by slipping an abortion pill into her drink.

WROC reported Tuesday that 32-year-old Dr. Sikander Imran has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after he allegedly slipped the drug Misoprostol into his pregnant girlfriend's tea while she was 17 weeks pregnant.

Brook Fiske of Farmington, New York, recently told the Rochester-based news outlet that the crime occurred when she traveled down to Arlington, Virginia, to visit Imran, who she said she had been dating on and off for the past three years and had recently moved south.

According to Fiske, she made the trip to discuss with Imran how they were going to raise their child. Fiske claims that Imran never wanted to have the child and asked her to get an abortion. However, that was a demand that Fiske could not agree to.

It was during her trip that Fiske says she was drugged by her baby's father.
"When I was drinking my tea in the evening I got to the bottom of the cup. There was a gritty substance in there and when I looked at it, I could tell that it was a pill that had been ground up," Fiske told the news outlet.
It was only a few hours later before Fiske began having contractions.
"He [Imran] immediately started crying and said that he was a horrible person and that he had done what I thought he did," Fiske said.
Fiske rushed to the Virginia Hospital Center in an attempt to save her child, but to no avail.

She was informed by a nurse that she had Misoprostol, a medication used to induce labor, in her system.

"According to the nurse at the hospital it's 200 milligrams to induce labor," Fiske asserted. "So he gave me 800."
According to court documents, Imran was taken into police custody in May and charged with cause of abortion and premeditated killing of a fetus of another, WROC reports.

Fiske added that she last saw Imran when she testified against him in June.

"It was very empowering for me to face him and say what he had done ... and look him in the face while I said that," Fiske said.
According to Newsweek, Imran had a license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia and was also a former hematology fellow at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. However, questions remain as to how he got a hold of the abortion pill used in the crime.

Fisk is a registered nurse licensed in New York.

Although Imran was supposed to stand trial this week, WROC reports that his trial has been pushed back to March 2018 because he is likely to face even more charges.

News of Sikander's actions has also sparked discussions on social media.

"This is one of the most disgusting stories I've heard all year," DailyWire writer Elliot Hamilton wrote on Twitter. "Yes, this should be first-degree murder. Yes, the unborn child is a person. Where's the Left's condemnation?"

Will Caroling at Abortion Clinics Save Lives This Christmas?

By Rod Anderson, CP Cartoonist
Christian Post

A major pro-life organization is overseeing a nationwide campaign this month to have Christmas caroling performed outside approximately 80 abortion clinics.

Known as "Peace in the Womb," the caroling events are organized by the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League, which has been observing this annual campaign since 2003.
"When you come out to an abortion facility to sing Christmas carols, you come face to face with the wounds of our society — and in our hearts — that Christ was born to heal."  Eric Scheidler, Pro-Life Action League

Storming San Francisco at the San Francisco Walk for Life

Jeff White
Founder, Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust

It will be a weekend like no other! In San Francisco, the Survivors are going to be running toward the cries of injustice to support their pro-life friends!

We won't just be part of the tens of thousands who march and walk for life across the country. While most marchers will head home after a half day, the Survivors are going to storm San Francisco all weekend!

Even if you can't be there, you've got to see how the Survivors will be turning San Francisco upside down!

Noon on Friday:
We'll be charging out of the gate and Standing up 4 Life with our friends Walter and Lori Hoye in Oakland! We're teaming up with Stand True and the Youth Outreach of Priests for Life for the weekend's events!

Later Friday:
Then the Survivors are headed into the City to bring light to San Francisco! LITERALLY!

The Survivors are bringing their "light boards" to Union Square to shine the light of truth on Planned Parenthood and the babies that die because of their unholy business!

The young people love the energy of Union Square even though it is often an hostile atmosphere.

Very often the sight of knowledgeable young people along with their engaging personalities wins the day and they change hearts! The Survivors love the lively debate!

Friday evening:
After the 40 days for Life Gala, the Survivors will continue into the night with a Chalk and Awe and will cover the sidewalks in front of Planned Parenthood with pro-life messages!

Saturday morning:
Bright and early, the Survivors will host a prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood and they will be sidewalk counseling.

Why? The Survivors don't want to come into town and walk and celebrate life without being at the killing centers first! They never want to be at a gala or a walk and not do all they can to rescue those unjustly sentenced to death!

Mid-day Saturday:
Then it is time to go fishing!

Fishing for new Survivors activists as the Survivors man a table at the info fair and share the vision of Survivors with their peers.

The Saturday march:
Now it is time to walk! The Survivors will be marching with their banners and their signs!

Saturday evening:
The end of the march will not be the end for the Survivors! When they arrive at the Justin Herman plaza the Survivors will be conducting a DIE-IN!

A Die-In at Justin Herman plaza will give many young people the first-time opportunity to be activists in a safe environment with hundreds of like-minded young people!

Yes!! The Resistance is alive and well!

The Survivors will be working hard that weekend and I want to make it the best weekend possible.
I want to print 500 special edition tee-shirts and give them out to any young people participating with us, then sell those that are extra as a fundraiser and message builder!  That would be really special - nothing like hundreds of young people wearing tee-shirts that identify them as a life-saver from Survivors!

Survivors is the premiere pro-life organization for training future pro-life leaders and raising future pro-life activists.  For more information on this organization or to make a donation to help them with their work, please use this link.

Planned Parenthood: Christians Should be Forced to Fund Abortions, It’s “Immoral” Not To

The Trump administration is giving religious individuals the choice to opt-out, a choice that the abortion industry does not want them to have.

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

Choice. It’s a word that Planned Parenthood loves to use when promoting the killing of unborn babies in abortions. But now, the abortion chain is abandoning its favorite word in an underhanded attempt to force Christians to pay for birth control, including methods that may cause abortions, in their employee health plans.

Crystal Strait, president of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, recently wrote an opinion piece for The Sacramento Bee to argue their case.

Strait blasted President Donald Trump’s administration for rolling back President Barack Obama’s birth control mandate. The onerous requirement forced groups like the nuns of Little Sisters of the Poor and the religious owners of Hobby Lobby to challenge the mandate to the U.S. Supreme Court, or face crippling fines.

Trump provided relief from the Obamacare mandate by granting wider exceptions to religious groups, but several state attorneys general are challenging the decision. Strait praised pro-abortion California Attorney General Xavier Becerra for being one of them.

“We believe that denying access to contraception is both illegal and immoral. Thanks to the ACA’s birth control benefit, 55 million women gained access to contraception,” she wrote.

She continued:

For so many of us, access to birth control has been a given. It’s been 45 years since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized birth control and the impact of that decision has been immeasurable.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranked contraception as one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century. Yet here we are, in 2017, with a president who wants to restrict birth control access and move us back to the dark days of inequity and inequality.

Strait’s hyperbolic, fear-mongering statements are almost laughable, considering that the mandate only was in effect for a few years. Birth control still is easily and readily available through doctor’s offices, community health centers, pharmacies and, of course, Planned Parenthood.

“The government already engages in dozens of programs that subsidize contraception for the low-income women” who are most at risk of unplanned pregnancies, the Trump administration said when it announced the new mandate rules.

Even pro-abortion Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who also is challenging Trump’s new rules, admitted that the mandate under pro-abortion President Barack Obama was “extremely narrow.”

Trump Administration Bans CDC from Using the Term ‘Fetus’

By Becky Yeh
Live Action News

The Trump administration is directing policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to end the use of certain words, including the term “fetus,” in budget documents.

The Washington Post reports that senior officials distributed a list of “forbidden words” during a 90-minute meeting with policy analysts in Atlanta, which include “entitlement” and “vulnerable.” In some cases, replacement words or phrases were provided. For others, however, replacement terms were not immediately suggested.

Analysts are now being instructed to use the phrase “CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes” instead of “science-based” or “evidence-based.”

The move signals a shift in the nation’s largest health agency — one that appears to lean towards recognizing and respecting human life in the womb. The pro-life movement has long worked to inject the gravity and violence of abortion and the dignity of every human life into language, which has been hijacked by the abortion lobby to dehumanize the preborn.
