Planned Parenthood Closes Last Abortion Clinic in Major Iowa Metro Area

Planned Parenthood has closed its last abortion clinic in the Quad Cities area of Iowa and Illinois, ending the business' 18-year presence in the area due to a decrease in state funding.

The Quad Cities Center of Bettendorf, Iowa, closed its doors Friday, being one of four area abortion clinics to cease operations since last year.

In a statement released Dec. 27, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland President Suzanna de Baca denounced the closures as "absurd" and "devastating."

"Gov. Kim Reynolds and anti-woman lawmakers forced us to make some extremely difficult changes this year in order to continue providing care for as many patients as possible," de Baca claimed.

"Since 1999, thousands of women in the Quad Cities have chosen Planned Parenthood because we offer a standard of expert, nonjudgmental care  unmatched by other providers."

The closures stemmed from the passage of House File 653 in May 2016, which created a state family planning network that blocks state funding of clinics that provide abortions.

In addition to Bettendorf, last summer Planned Parenthood of the Heartland also closed its locations in Burlington, Keokuk, and Sioux City. Planned Parenthood continues to operate abortion clinics in other areas of Iowa.

"The closures were blamed on the legislature's decision to effectively cut off $2 million in Medicaid money Planned Parenthood of the Heartland used to receive to provide birth control services to moderate-income Iowans," the Des Moines Register reported.

Video Producer Sues YouTube for Censoring Pro-Life Videos

A conservative talk show host is suing YouTube for censoring his videos about abortion and other issues.

Dennis Prager filed a lawsuit against the internet giant Google in October, claiming it is wrongly censoring conservatives like himself on YouTube, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

His Prager University publishes a YouTube series that discusses political and social issues from a conservative perspective. One of the videos that he alleges YouTube censored was “The Most Important Question About Abortion,” which examines the morality of abortion, including whether an unborn baby should have rights.

On Friday, Prager asked a judge for a preliminary injunction against YouTube that would lift the restricted status from his videos, according to the report.

YouTube restricts videos that it considers “potentially mature” because of nudity, violence, profanity, obscene material, hate speech or other offensive content. People still can view videos that are restricted if they look for them.

Prager’s lawyers argued that because YouTube is so large, it basically is a public forum where the First Amendment freedom of speech should apply.

“Among others, legal scholars Professors Jeffrey Rosen and Timothy Wu warn that private corporations like Defendants ‘have more power over free speech and privacy than any president, king, or Supreme Court justice,’” they argued in a court brief.

“Because the First Amendment is ‘centered on the problem of wrongful discrimination in communications’ these scholars point out that ‘anyone who wants to understand free speech in the twenty-first century needs to know how the concept has expanded over time’ to include the vast and concentrated power over speech wielded by purportedly private internet intermediaries,” they continued.

Lawyers for Google argued that YouTube is a private company with First Amendment rights and it should not be compelled to host videos that it deems objectionable.

“While Plaintiff’s Complaint invokes the First Amendment, it seeks to invert the protections that it provides,” Google attorney Brian Willen wrote. “Rather than allowing PragerU to compel a private party like YouTube to make certain videos available to all users, the First Amendment gives YouTube the freedom to decide whether and how to present content on its service.”

Whether or not Prager’s lawsuit has merit, pro-life advocates have become increasingly concerned about online censorship on widely-used social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

In October, Twitter rejected an ad from pro-life Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn because she mentioned Planned Parenthood’s sales of aborted baby body parts. Twitter later reversed its decision after LifeNews and other news outlets reported about the matter.

Facebook and Twitter have blocked other pro-life advertisements in the past, as well. In September, Live Action, the youth-centered pro-life organization known for its undercover investigations of Planned Parenthood, said Twitter has been censoring its ads. Live Action and founder Lila Rose said the social media site blocked their ability to advertise and told them to change information on their websites if they want to start advertising again.

Pro-Life Outreach Starting Strong in Waco, Texas in 2018

I pray that your 2018 will be a year of joy and fruitful Christian discipleship.

In Central Texas, we accept a most unwelcome challenge of countering the Culture of Death emanating from a new abortion facility. We will faithfully offer our gifts together to nurture the Culture of Life. I look forward to a year from today when we can look back at how God blessed his faithful servants and those we served. This will include young babies experiencing their first Christmas because we cared enough to stand boldly for life.

Texans will come together and do more to defend life in 2018. This includes the 40 Days for Life prayer vigil that is counting on you and beginning February 14, 2018.

On this Sunday, Pro-Life Waco delivers monthly Life Chain at the corner of Valley Mills Drive and Waco Drive. This will be a New Year outreach event. This is Sunday, January 7. The time is 2 to 3 p.m. You can park near Pei Wei restaurant and look for “Carolyn” the Pro-Life billboard truck. Free t-shirts and yard signs will be available. Again, the weather may be chilly. The power of our outreach will double. Travelers will be amazed at our dedication and know we work for a tremendous cause.

If Planned Parenthood maintains its regular schedule, there will be no abortions this week. However, Planned Parenthood will be open. Come out and pray any time in solidarity with babies in the womb and for decisions for life and love.  Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the following week are likely to be days of abortion. Of course, we want dozens standing in prayer and solidarity on those days.

I am often asked, what is Bucks County Right to Life (BCRTL)? We established BCRTL because we wanted to have an organization that included people of all faiths and who live in the Central Bucks area. We are a legitimate Non-Profit and have a tax exempt number for our bank account. We started out with 12 members and a lot of hope! It was slow going at first but we are now at 152 members! We are an affiliate of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. We have worked together with Parish Respect Life Committees to raise money by holding an Annual Rummage and Treasure Sale. That money helps local Crisis Pregnancy Centers, allows us to sponsored Educational Events, fund the Pro-Life Oratory Contest each year (we have had winners from our chapter), sponsor the March for Life Bus annually, donate Shipping Expenses each year to send clothing and supplies to a village in Nigeria, and answer the call for various other charities when needed.

We have a three-member board to make decisions about the chapter. We are fortunate to have Dr. Denise Wilcox who is our Treasurer. She is the Regional Coordinator for Right to Life of SE Pennsylvania for the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. The Federation is an affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee.

Denise represents the state of Pennsylvania on the Board of the National Right to Life Committee, she also serves on the Board of Directors of Pennsylvanians for Human Life, an affiliate of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation that does education exclusively. What Are Chapters?

Local chapters are the major component of the pro-life movement and specifically the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. They help save lives one at a time in communities where they exist, and they are the building blocks of a movement that will one day return legal protection to all unborn children.

Chapters of PPLF have several important functions as the local pro-life resource in Pennsylvania communities…

• Provide educational materials and resources about abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia
• Send qualified speakers to schools, churches, and civic groups
• Maintain local media contacts
• Provide school and public libraries with pro-life books and pamphlets
• Keep abreast of state and national pro-life developments in order to educate their community
• Follow current political activity and legislation, both state and federal, to help pro-life candidates become elected and pass pro-life laws
• Encourage the support of pregnancy service groups
• Conduct membership drives and various fundraising events

A movement, as the name implies, depends on its members and chapters advancing toward the same goals. And the concerted grassroots efforts among our local chapters will be the basis for our success in protecting the right to life in our state.

Activists in Ireland Exploit Disabled Babies to Try to Legalize Abortion on Demand

Irish health minister Simon Harris has “warned” campaigners not to make non-fatal disability an issue during the referendum on the Eighth Amendment, the Times reports.

“The committee [considering the Eighth Amendment] did not recommend disability as a grounds for abortion nor do I think it should have, I would abhor that idea,” Mr Harris said. “People may try to make this an issue during the campaign but it’s not grounds for an abortion. If you look at what the committee considered and what it accepted and rejected, the idea of abnormalities that are not fatal was not put in as a grounds for abortion.”

Misleading Terms

While the committee rejected the legalization of abortion on grounds of “foetal abnormality” that would not lead to death before or shortly after birth, it recommended abortion up to birth for “fatal foetal abnormality.”

Organizations such as Every Life Counts campaign against terms such as “incompatible with life” and “fatal foetal abnormality” as being “hurtful, medically meaningless and misleading.”
Disability bias

As Martin McCaffery, a neonatologist and professor of pediatrics at the university of North Carolina, wrote in the Irish Times, the committee did not hear “from one physician describing counselling in which parents are told that with continued care their anencephalic child would likely be born alive, have a meaningful if short life, and the child’s birth would reduce later maternal mental health challenges. No doctor testified that labelling infants with trisomy 18 as ‘lethal’ is inaccurate and steeped in disability bias.”

The committee also recommended permitting abortion with no restrictions up to 12 weeks, and up until birth on the grounds of the mother’s mental health, both of which grounds could be used to target children with disabilities.

Targeting the Most Vulnerable

SPUC’s Dr Anthony McCarthy commented, saying: “It is clear that the health minister wants to distance himself from the unpleasant reality that the proposed legislation would certainly lead to babies with disabilities being aborted simply because they are disabled. 

Bearing in mind that ‘fatal foetal abnormality’ is not a medical term, and most babies with life-limiting conditions do live for some time after birth, what he is actually saying is that babies with more severe disabilities than others do not deserve to live.”

This Baby Was Saved From Abortion After It Had Already Started, Wait Til You See How

By the time Giselle entered the world in early December, she arrived fully equipped with her own protective detail of three older brothers. They’re old enough to know their sister is a precious addition to their family, but they’re years away from understanding just how priceless she is.

What Giselle’s brothers will learn in time was that their mother, Samantha, was left high and dry by Giselle’s father and turned to a chemical abortion pill as what she felt was her only way forward.

Then, almost as soon as Samantha had taken the first of two chemical abortion pills—which ends a baby’s life in utero ahead of the second and final pill, inducing labor—she changed her mind and reached out to the Abortion Pill Reversal hotline (1-877-558-0333) for help.

Through the hotline, Samantha was connected to one of 350 providers in the nationwide Abortion Pill Reversal network trained in a life-saving protocol that starts with an emergency injection of progesterone used since the 1950s to prevent miscarriages.

Samantha’s daughter, Giselle, was born Dec. 1, 2017—an event celebrated all month by Abundant Hope Pregnancy Resource Center in Attleboro, Mass., where Samantha had learned about the life-saving option before going in for her abortion appointment.

“For those who have been following along with the story of Sam, and the miracle of Abortion Pill Reversal, we are so excited to introduce her little girl, Giselle,” the pregnancy center posted in early December. 

“Born Friday, December 1st at 2:00 p.m. 6lb 3oz, 18 3/4 in. Both mom and baby are in perfect health and doing wonderfully. And her 3 older brothers are completely smitten with their new sister. Please send this beautiful family prayers as they begin their journey with a new bundle of joy!”

As previously reported at Pregnancy Help News, Samantha had tried three separate times to abort her baby, including the third time via chemical abortion. During one of the attempts, Samantha was in the waiting room at an abortion business when another woman’s name was called. The woman’s name was Giselle.

“It was at that point, I felt like that was a sign of some sort, and I ended up just freaking out and leaving the appointment,” Samantha said.

Samantha is one of 400 mothers who have successfully rescued their baby from abortion via Abortion Pill Reversal since 2007, when two doctors—George Delgado and Matthew Harrison—began implementing the treatment independently of one another.

While abortion proponents have tried to stop nurses and doctors from educating themselves on Abortion Pill Reversal—a move effectively robbing women like Samantha of her choice to save her own baby—as many as 50 women are reaching out to the hotline every month to try and interrupt a chemical abortion.

“The ‘second choice’ we offer women who change their minds after taking mifepristone not only gives their unborn babies a fighting chance, it also provides an avenue for emotional and spiritual healing,” Delgado said.

For Samantha, now a mother of four, that “second choice” offered by Abortion Pill Reversal is making a world of difference for her family. And so is the relationship she’s forged with Abundant Hope, who not only told her about all her options, but is continuing to stand with Samantha and her children during their new season of life.

Pa. Represnetative Rapp Calls Gov. Wolf’s Veto Message of Late-Term Abortion Ban Disingenuous, Untruthful

HARRISBURG – Representative Kathy Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest), who serves as majority chair of the bipartisan House Pro-Life Caucus, issued the following statement regarding Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of legislation, she originally introduced, to update Pennsylvania’s Abortion Control Act to ban horrific late-term dismemberment abortions (Senate Bill 3):

“With the full backing of Planned Parenthood, the governor went out of his way to leave no doubt that he would veto this pro-life legislation. However, the primary reasoning contained in his veto message that Senate Bill 3 provided no exceptions for rape, incest or endangering the life of the mother is disingenuous, untruthful and can be entirely disproved through a simple review of the Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act.

“Title 18, Section 3215 A 1-3, prohibits publicly owned facilities, public officials and public funds from being ‘used for the provision, inducement or performance of any abortion except where necessary to avert the death of the womanor where necessary to terminate pregnancies initiated by acts of rape or incest...’”

“Simply stated, Senate Bill 3 was introduced as an amendment to the Abortion Control Act and would do nothing to alter or remove these exceptions that are spelled out in this quarter-century-old statute.

“If signed into law, this legislation, based on major advances in science, medical technology and health care, would have specifically prohibited abortions after five months of pregnancy, recognizing the capacity of unborn children to feel pain, and the fact that health risks to the mother significantly increase after 20 weeks of pregnancy. In addition, Senate Bill 3 would have ended the barbaric practice of dismemberment abortion, which involves tearing a baby limb from limb, and resulting in a likely slow and painful death.

“Clearly, the governor is either completely ignorant about the exceptions already granted in the Abortion Control Act, or is blindly ignoring current law to further the agenda of Planned Parenthood, the world’s single largest abortion provider. Regardless, the governor’s deeply flawed arguments for vetoing Senate Bill 3 can never excuse his death-determining decision against countless innocent unborn children or the continued endangerment of the health and well-being of their mothers.”

Pennsylvania Pro-Life Action Alert: Are You Willing to Serve the Cause?

In February, the Republican State Committee (about 300 people from across Pennsylvania) will select the officially endorsed candidates for both Governor and US Senator. They will also select the Lieutenant Governor endorsed candidate and others. This happens every year. It is with this body that the GOP selects Judges for Commonwealth Court, Superior Court, and Supreme Court. It will select the party candidate for Attorney General, Treasurer, and Auditor General. And it will elect party officials to assist in writing the Republican Party Platform.

Too often, the local party bosses hand out this post to some crony, who will do whatever they are told. But, if we want principled candidates to be selected, and a platform that reflects our values, we need some of our own people to step up to run for this post. A small number of principled State Committee people can make an enormous difference. There are good people already on the Committee, but they need to be challenged to vote their conscience - rather than getting steamrolled by "leadership". A generation ago, the Republican candidates were all pro-abortion "moderates" like Arlen Specter, Barbara Hafer, Bill Scranton, Jane Earl, Elsie Hillman, and Ann Anstine. But this culture has been turned around, and the more recent Committee endorsements have gone to Rick Santorum, Pat Toomey, Mike Fisher, Mark Schweiker and others.

There are 3 or 4 meetings per year in Harrisburg, requiring an overnight stay. Most of the "real" negotiations are accomplished at receptions and meetings on Friday nights (behind the scenes). Then, there is the official voting session on Saturday morning, and everyone heads home by noon.

There is an unofficial caucus - a successor to our original pro-life conservative caucus - which is called the Reagan Caucus. This group has influence and can be mobilized to advance our principles.

So, I'm asking that each of you consider running in your district for the position of Republican State Committee. In Delaware County, a man and a woman will be elected from each of our legislative districts. It requires collecting 150 signatures of registered Republicans in your district. These signatures will be scrutinized by lawyers who will try to keep you from getting onto the ballot. It is a good idea to collect at least twice as many signatures as you need. Signers must sign exactly as they are registered. Examples: James Jones cannot sign as Jim Jones, or he could be disqualified. If you live in Broomall, your township is not Broomall, it is Marple. Listing Broomall could disqualify you. If the signature before yours is dated February 7 and then you date yours as February 6 - the entire page of signatures can be thrown out. I even saw an entire set of signatures disqualified once because the Notary who notarized them was a day late sending in his licensing fee! So, it takes some care to make your signatures count. You should have an attorney check your signatures in advance before getting them notarized and submitted. You can collect signatures at parties or meet ups, outside of church, or at a shopping mall.

Help Created Equal Save Lives in 2018

Columbus, OH – Dec 29, 2017 – Thanks to you, Created Equal reached new milestones in 2017. #ProjectWeakLink forced multiple medical waste haulers—including America’s largest, Stericycle—to stop enabling abortion. Our Justice Ride and Road Trip for Life teams reached dozens of high school and college campuses. See below snapshots from just the latter portion of the year.


ROAD TRIP FOR LIFE LAUNCHED

The JumboTron tour was one part of a new project launched this fall: the Road Trip for Life. For one month, we sent a core team on the road through six states to create public debate every day.

Our team started their mornings counseling outside an abortion facility. Next, they set up a display on a college campus. Finally, they took their signs to a nearby high school.

Abortion defenders tried to stop them. In Muncie, IN, a school resource officer dismantled our signs. In Ypsilanti, MI, a police officer concocted a nonexistent law to trample our First Amendment rights to demonstrate on public property. Watch for updates as our legal team pursues these incidents.

We will be fielding a Road Trip for Life team again spring semester!

JUMBO CAMPUS DEBATES

Nothing captivates a crowd like Created Equal’s JumboTron

This fall included a tour with the JumboTron through Kentucky, a state with only one abortion facility left. On the massive screen, we broadcast footage of abortion procedures caught on camera. The tour stopped by University of Louisville, Eastern Kentucky University, and University of Kentucky.

At University of Kentucky, the largest pro-abortion counter-protest I’ve seen in years on a campus assembled in response. But even the leader of the protest, UK Feminist Alliance President Sydney Tate, couldn’t help admitting on video, "Walking up to this made me cry, because it's so upsetting."

Even those who want to keep abortion legal can’t avoid the truth when they see it before their eyes.

ANOTHER WASTE HAULER DROPS ABORTION

Following the successful campaign focused on Stericycle, Created Equal launched phase two of #ProjectWeakLink on November 7, aimed at persuading Specific Waste Industries to stop enabling the abortion cartel by disposing of aborted babies.Just three days later, Specific Waste revealed that they had ceased to provide medical waste services for Kentucky’s last remaining abortion facility and Planned Parenthood centers in the Midwest. Five Best Moments for Life and Family at the UN in 2017

NEW YORK, December 29 (C-Fam) The pro-life and pro-family fight at the UN is always difficult. But even with our political and financial disadvantage our team has been able to consistently deliver victories for life and family. Here are the most significant pro-life developments of the past 12 months.


1. Pro-life U.S. President Donald Trump Transforms Global Abortion Debate.

Though pro-life supporters of Donald Trump were mocked last year, Trump is proving to be the most pro-life president in U.S. history. He not only reinstated the Mexico City Policy, which forbids U.S. family planning money from going to pro-abortion groups overseas, an important but relatively small amount of money, he expanded it to include all of roughly $9 billion of U.S. global health aid. Trump also defunded the UN Population Fund for its complicity in forced abortion. And the U.S. took a stand to qualify “reproductive health” to exclude abortion in UN agreements, as well as G7, and G20 negotiations. Some who are weary of the fight say “reproductive health” is a lost cause. This shows it is not and that we can do even more.


2. Nations Speak Up for Family and Parental Rights.

The Human Rights Council in Geneva adopted the resolution on protection of the family for the third year in a row. Sadly, the U.S. did not support it. In the Spring, the Commission on Population and Development could not adopt a resolution because of European insistence on sexual rights, comprehensive sexuality education, and overemphasis on sexual and reproductive issues. In the Fall, the small island State of Saint Lucia and African delegations outmaneuvered the Europeans in negotiations to make sure parental rights made it into three General Assembly resolutions about children. They proved that defying European donors is not only possible but that it pays dividends.
