Contraception: A Psychological Prostitution

Editor’s Note: The author’s original title was “The Self-Gift Implicit to the Conjugal Act: Is Not Contraception, at Least Partially, Mutual Reciprocal Repudiation?

Here is my own speculative TOB-enabled scientific  interpretation: the gift of  bearing new life belongs uniquely to the woman. In God’s plan for the woman, in particular, to be truly happy in the conjugal relationship she must be able to be fully and unconditionally loved for who she is; that is, accepted fully for the unique person she is, without any compromises.

Because her identity is more mysterious on account of this hidden life-giving power (than, say, the man’s is), she of necessity and without being able to do anything about it must communicate her life-giving identity as part of her person when in the conjugal act she communicates her whole being. This existential nakedness (“apocalypsis”, “unveiling”), though only remotely hinted at by the more obvious, physical nakedness of the conjugal act (remember John Paul II said the body is the sacrament of the inner mystery of the person) is the place for the deep and intimate self-revelation the woman will express in this act.

This is dangerous territory! It is a dangerously intimate self-revelation but also self-exposure. In fact, affirming love and the need for authentic procreative self-actualization appear to be so important that they constitute the only reasons sufficient for nature to permit this intimate and dangerous core self-exposure.

The procreative dimension of woman is therefore a special dilemma in the unfolding of her feminine life, fraught with anxiety; this unique psychosexual integrative challenge presents the “opportunity” or susceptibility to exploitative manipulation because it is especially vulnerable to suggestions capable of exploiting fear.
Contraception introduces the diabolically clever arrangement whereby the woman – more so than the man aware of the anxiety-prone integrative challenge posed by her procreative dimension — is deceived into thinking this core challenge to self-integration need not be faced boldly, indeed can be eliminated altogether. But this is a betrayal by the man, a kind of psychological prostitution, where her deepest self is repudiated, her greatest dignity trampled.

Ten Commandments? What, that old list of outdated laws? After all they are 3,000 years old. Get with it folks. Times have changed.

Praising Planned Parenthood Won't Save Obama

I was thinking about the Lord’s Prayer the other evening as it’s found in Matthew 6:9-13 and specifically verse 10. The verse reads in part “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” (KJV)

Obama Equates Abortion To The Flu -

I would argue that it is easier to understand and justify slavery than it is to justify abortion. With that thought in mind, let me remind you that there is a trial taking place in Philadelphia in effort to find an abortionist Kermit Gosnell guilty of what was seven murders. (Three of the seven murder charges were dropped by judicial edict.)
Before I get into the blood, bones, and dismembered bodies of the babies Gosnell murdered, let me remind you of another fact.
Between 1882 and 1968, there were 3,446 blacks lynched in the United States. That is a span of 86 years. Today in the United States there are 1,876 black babies murdered in the womb every day – which means the total known number of blacks lynched over an 86-year period is surpassed approximately every 45 hours.  Continue Reading

Planned Parenthood's Corporate Carnage

"A major spin campaign is underway by Planned Parenthood to whitewash the truth about the abortion industry and paint Kermit Gosnell as an exception. The facts prove that Gosnell is no different than Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America," said Jim Sedlak, vice president at ALL.

"Almost simultaneous to Planned Parenthood's public relations campaign condemning Gosnell and distancing itself, their own lobbyist was testifying that Planned Parenthood believes babies born alive can be left to die. Furthermore, its employees in Delaware were blowing the whistle about botched abortions and filthy, unsafe conditions so bad that the Planned Parenthood abortuary had to be shut down, at least temporarily."

Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion chain in America. Its latest annual report reveals that it committed over 332,000 abortions last year and received half of its $1 billion dollar budget from government subsidies at taxpayer expense.

"Because of its ability to fund candidates' campaigns, Planned Parenthood has political allies right up to the oval office as well as a friendly media that help it shield the true nature of its income and business from public scrutiny," added Sedlak.

This ALL Report helps people understand that maiming and death, corporate carnage for profit, is as common at Planned Parenthood as it is across the abortion industry."

Dr. Ben Carson is an award-winning pediatric neurosurgeon, New York Times best-selling author, and Presidential Medal of Honor recipient. His inspiring rise from an impoverished single-parent home in downtown Detroit to one of the leading pediatric surgeons and political voices in our nation inspired the 2009 movie Gifted Hands.

Dr. Carson grabbed national headlines after delivering the keynote speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in February of this year. Standing mere feet away from President Barack Obama, Dr. Carson spoke truth to power when he discussed the importance of family, personal responsibility, and the dangers of political correctness.

The Mission of the Pennsylvania Family Institute is to strengthen families by restoring to public life the traditional, foundational principles and values essential for the well-being of society. We are a research and education organization devoted to restoring these values to our state and nation. We produce policy reports, promote responsible citizenship and work to promote unity among pro-family groups.

“Miscarriage” and “Stillbirth” — Why I Hate those Words

We need language to communicate ideas and concepts and sometimes I have to use those words just long enough to establish a rapport with a person – a newly bereaved parent, family member or to teach a student or staff member. No sooner do the words exit my mouth do I explain why they won’t hear them from me again.

Both words speak only of processes (and badly at that) nothing of loss or pain or grief.

If I could purge one single phrase from our culture it would be “just a miscarriage”. How many times have you heard that phrase? Yet there are so may instances where it is anything but “just” as if that word is somehow going to temper the pain. What if the mom has been infertile for 15 years and this is her first conception? What if the dad has died or lost his fertility? What if she is older and knows her chances to conceive again are slim? What if she had invested herself in this pregnancy 100%? Or yet, what if she simply — for no reason that she needed to explain to the world — loved her baby?

When I had a loss at 9 weeks, I had already made some life decisions based on the expected arrival of that baby and undoing those decisions and my attachment was hard.

Babies Suffer Just as Much in Late Abortions as in Gosnell Murders

From Carol Tobias
National Right to Life President

Kermit Gosnell was convicted of murder for severing the necks of just-born babies, but those babies would have died just as painfully if he had killed them inside the womb, as most late-term abortionists do.  The result is the same for the baby whether it meets its end in a shabby clinic like Gosnell's or a brand new Planned Parenthood facility -- a painful death.

Planned Parenthood and NARAL both tried to spin two points in their response to Gosnell’s convictions on three counts of first degree murder for brutally killing babies after they were born alive, manslaughter in the death of a 41-year-old patient, and 21 counts of performing illegal  late abortions.

First, they tried to distance Gosnell’s killing from the abortions they themselves advocate.  This even though at least one of Planned Parenthood’s clinics does abortions up until 24 weeks.  And even though Planned Parenthood lobbyist Alisa LaPolt Snow was asked in a committee of the Florida legislature “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”

Unbelievably, Snow replied “We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”

Second, they tried to blame pro-lifers like you and me.

That’s right, in the bizarre logic of Planned Parenthood and NARAL, it’s pro-life laws  that drive women to butchers like Gosnell, not the culture PP and NARAL themselves spawn by degrading the value of human life right from its inception.

We call on pro-lifers everywhere to support compassionate protections for the lives of unborn children.  You can do this by speaking up against the injustice of abortion, by talking to your legislators and insisting they pass National Right to Life-supported laws to protect the unborn, and by donating generously so we can make the case for life-saving laws in every state legislature and Congress.

Cases like Gosnell’s happen, not when pro-lifers pass compassionate laws to protect the lives of the innocent, but when abortion advocates degrade the value of every life.  Now, while these brutalities are fresh in the public’s minds, is the time to educate, to persuade and to pass protective laws for Life.

Redefining the Abortion Debate

From Father Frank Pavone

Public opinion about abortion in America can best be described as ambivalent: uncomfortable with unrestricted abortion, yet unwilling to ban it totally.

Another word for public opinion on abortion is “stalemate.” It has not moved much over the years since Roe vs. Wade. One time it did move was when partial-birth abortion was being debated publicly in the late 90’s.  People were more willing to identify with the pro-life position during and after that debate, because the debate focused on abortion itself, rather than on abstract issues of freedom and choice.

And it is only in the specific arena of partial-birth abortion that our nation has succeeded, at any time since Roe vs. Wade, in actually prohibiting an abortion procedure in many states and on a federal level, and have that prohibition upheld by the highest court in the land.

When the question is, “Should we allow abortion?”, the debate is unwieldy and ambiguous, catching people in a seemingly endless and wearisome maze of arguments and counterarguments. But when the question is, “Should we allow a child to be pierced in the skull with scissors while still alive and partially delivered?”, the public comes much more quickly to a consensus. And that consensus in turn affects their view of the overall abortion question.

Now it’s time for Act 2.

The most common abortion procedure performed after the first trimester of pregnancy is the “D and E” (Dilation and Evacuation), a procedure which is legal throughout the nation, and which the Supreme Court itself described in this way:

Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act "Most Significant Legislative Step Forward"

Washington, DC -- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today:

"This week, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-08) will hold a press conference on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, announcing that its provisions, to protect children in the womb from 20 weeks of development forward, will apply nationwide. Moreover, a hearing regarding the bill will be held on Thursday.
"Priests for Life believes this is the most significant legislative effort to date in bringing protection to unborn children. We have therefore already alerted every parish in America to inform and mobilize its congregation in support of this bill. We are also calling upon pro-life organizations large and small to give it their full support.

"The team of Priests for Life has been instrumental in bringing attention to the case of Kermit Gosnell and in exposing other abortionists like him, and has been developing educational strategies related to late term abortion, such as our StopDandE.com campaign. We will redouble these efforts as a way of supporting passage of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act."

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia.
