Pro-Life Movie “Doonby” Will Hit Theaters on November 1

A modern take on It’s a Wonderful Life, the spellbinding thriller, Doonby, is set to release in theaters nationwide on November 1, 2013. Written and directed by Irish filmmaker Peter Mackenzie, Doonby examines how much one man’s life can affect those around him while answering the larger questions of what one life is worth.

Starring John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville) as Sam Doonby, alongside Will Wallace (Tree of Life, The Thin Red Line), Robert Davi (The Goonies, Die Hard), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Jenn Gotzon (Hulk, Frost/Nixon) Doonby is produced by Riverhorse Entertainment.

“I’m really delighted about the release of Doonby in US theaters. It’s been a long haul and a labor of love for me, but I’m thrilled that I have been able to bring this to the screen with the help of some wonderful actors,” says Peter Mackenzie, Writer and Director of the film.  “Doonby is a thought provoking mystery and one that I hope will stay in the minds of the viewer long after they leave the movie house.”

"Nothing has Changed’ Right to Life is Still the Foundational Issue, says Philly Archbishop

PHILADELPHIA, October 24, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Amidst confusion about the Church’s teaching on how to engage issues like abortion, contraception, and same-sex “marriage” following recent interviews by Pope Francis, Philadelphia’s Archbishop has stressed that “nothing has changed” and the right to life remains the “foundational” issue facing the culture.

The right to life “is not merely one among many urgent issues, but rather the foundational one. It provides the cornerstone for a whole architecture of human dignity,” Archbishop Charles Chaput wrote in a column for Catholic Philly, the archdiocesan newspaper, on October 18.

“Nothing has changed in recent months or years in Catholic thinking about the sanctity of human life. Nor can it,” he added.

Archbishop Chaput framed his column as a reflection on the USCCB’s 1998 pastoral letter Living the Gospel of Life, which he called “the best document ever issued by the U.S. bishops on the priorities of Catholic engagement in our nation’s public life.” The bishops’ purpose, he says, was to apply Pope John Paul II’s 1995 encyclical Evangelium Vitae to the U.S. context.

Let's Not Tolerate the Intolerable!

Christ is truly present – body, blood, soul, and divinity – in the Holy Eucharist. We must venerate His presence, honor Him for all He has done for us, and remain reverent at all times. Yet, too many do not take His presence seriously. Some even mock Him. Now is the time for each of us – both clergy and lay people – to stop this disgrace and return the respect to Our Lord that He deserves.

More than 10 years ago, American Life League began focusing attention on the abuses brought toward the body and blood of Christ in the sacrament of Holy Communion – a sacrament defined by the Church as the source and summit of Christian life.

It has been our mission, so to speak, to bring to the attention of the Catholic bishops in America the many pro-abortion public figures who flaunt their Catholic identity as part of their defense of abortion and similar atrocities. Whether it is former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, MSNBC commentator Chris Matthews, or Vice President Joe Biden, the scandal is no less severe. There is no Catholic who should support the evil action of abortion and then have the audacity to receive the body of Christ in Holy Communion.

But the sad fact is that Catholic bishops, for the most part, do not see this as a major concern. And so the travesty continues. We have come to perceive this resistance toward protecting the body and blood of Christ from sacrilege as part of a much larger phenomenon within the Church. It is clear that many priests and bishops prefer to test the winds of public opinion before deciding whether or not to obey canon law or even protect the sacrifice of Mass itself from disrespect.

Kermit Gosnell-Like Abortion Biz Does 4-6 Abortions an Hour in Atlanta in Filthy Conditions

Ever since the Kermit Gosnell case exposed the grizzly truth behind the real abortion industry, many states have begun cracking down on abortion providers who put profits ahead of patient safety.


At least 58 unscrupulous abortion providers have been closed down after regulators started doing their jobs. Many have moved out of state rather than submit to the same regulatory environment that other non-ambulatory surgical facilities adhere to.

Not so in Georgia. Only one facility has closed its doors recently and that is only because the administrator retired.Despite histories of documented malpractice, death, road rage assault on a woman, arrests, infections caused by unclean surgical instruments, inflicting nonsurgical injuries on patients and staff, and alleged Medicaid fraud, Georgia’s abortion providers continue to thrive.The entire focus appears to be profit and speed, with at least 80 abortions performed daily –approximately 3 per hour — in the state. One facility in North Atlanta performs 4-6 abortions an hour in a facility that has been repeatedly found to be in violation of minimum regulatory standards.

“Georgia Right to Life’s (GRTL) mission is to end all elective abortions,” explained Suzanne Ward, GRTL’s Director of Public Relations and Education. “Until that goal is reached, we believe women deserve safe medical care.”

Study Shows Children with Spina Bifida Fare Better with in Utero Surgery

Over the last few months we have run several stories about in utero surgery. To this day there remain some skeptics. Their numbers are diminishing, however, as there is much research that demonstrates (for example) how babies with spina bifida will benefit when surgeons correct their problem before they are born.

One of the best examples was a study in the New England Journal of Medicine. A while back “ABC News Tonight” did a wonderful job putting a human face on that study and the benefits of that surgery.

A smiling news anchor Diane Sawyer began

“We have medical news now. the result of a surgical experiment so promising, so profound the limits were lifted on the experiment so everyone could benefit.”

“It involves surgery in the womb with tiny instruments, microscopic skill and dexterity on a devastating birth defect that affects 1,500 newborns every year. And Deborah Roberts reports on the news tonight that could lead to other life-changing surgery for babies before they are born.”

Senate to Vote on Obama Judge Who Said Abortion Frees Women From “Conscription Into Maternity”

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid plans to file cloture on the nominations for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit when the Senate returns next week from its recess. That will have the Senate voting on one of the most pro-abortion nominees President Barack Obama has put forward for any court.

In September, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved pro-abortion Cornelia Pillard, a law professor President Barack Obama selected for an appointment to the most important appeals court in the nation.

Pillard has written some pretty outlandish things — but Senate Republicans are hoping circuit court opinions won’t be added to the list. The President’s pick for the D.C. Circuit Court, one of the most liberal ever nominated, left plenty of Senators scratching their heads at her July Judiciary hearing.

 Among her most shocking statements, Pillard has called the ultrasound “deceptive,” argued that abstinence education is unconstitutional, and suggested that pro-life laws only “enforce women’s incubation of unwanted pregnancies” which projects a “vision of the woman’s role as mothers and caretakers.”

Pillard was voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on a straight party line vote of 10-8 with Democrats supporting her nomination and Republicans opposed.

The Slaveholder and the Abortionist

Countless comparisons have been made over the years between slavery and abortion – so many that some pro-abortion advocates undoubtedly roll their eyes and sigh when the topics are placed side by side.

Well, at the risk of being dismissed straight away, I’m going to do just that – not to compare the two gruesome institutions, although parallels abound, but to consider similarities in thought among some of those who have defended each as well as to point out the utter shortcomings of these defenses.

Inspired by the film of the same name (which I have not yet seen, preferring first to read the book), I recently undertook reading Twelve Years a Slave, in which Solomon Northup, a free black man living in pre-Civil War America, recounts his experiences of being kidnapped, sold into slavery, and forced to live the life of a slave for twelve years until his rescue.

Northup endured untold cruelties during those twelve years, but he also encountered kindness – particularly in his first master, William Ford. Reflecting on Ford, Northup writes:

Be Countercultural: Have Babies!

A fabulous piece of writing from The Federalist recently hit home with me. “Fecundophobia: The Growing Fear of Children and Fertile Women” is more than the title of the article; it’s also the theme of the first 20-something years of my life.

I am here to tell you that fecundophobia is pervasive. I have witnessed and participated in it for most of my life.

Here’s the thing: I wanted kids from the time I was pretty young. But I wouldn’t admit it – certainly not to others, and almost not even to myself.

Having kids was synonymous with giving up, conforming, being dumb, not having any initiative, fleeing from an interesting life, becoming part of the problem, and not having anything better to do. None of my close female friends admitted to wanting kids. It was tacitly understood that if we ever got pregnant, it would be by accident, and we’d have to decide whether to have an abortion or not.


A couple years ago I wrote a piece for Live Action about the anti-humanist bent of abortion advocates. It is my contention that people support abortion not so much because they don’t believe the fetus is a human being, but because they do believe the fetus is a human being, and they don’t particularly like human beings.

Do they really, though? you’re asking. Do they really dislike human beings?

Yeah. Yeah, they do.
