Judge Rules Washington Public Hospitals Must Offer Abortions on Site

LIve Action News

In a Tuesday ruling, Skagit County Superior Court Judge Raquel Montoya-Lewis declared that public hospitals in the state of Washington must offer abortions on site if they also provide maternity care.

The ruling was prompted by a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union, which claimed that hospitals in the region were not complying with state laws regarding abortion.

According to the Seattle Times, current state law “requires the state to pay for voluntary abortions for low-income women, and says that if a public hospital provides maternity services it must also provide ‘substantially equivalent’ abortion services.”

Apparently, the hospital isn’t providing abortions because no one wants to commit them. From the Times:

The hospital argued that it’s OK with having abortions performed on-site, but that it doesn’t have staff members who are willing to provide the services. The law allows health-care providers to opt out of providing abortions, but the judge said that doesn’t give the entire hospital a right not to offer abortions.

“The key distinction here is that individual providers may choose either to provide or not provide these services, but the state, acting here through the Hospital District, cannot exercise such an opt out clause,” wrote Judge Montoya-Lewis. “The Hospital District must comply with its responsibility under the (Reproductive Privacy Act), and the Court sees no tenable reason why it cannot.”

The ACLU also sent letters to other hospitals in the state, threatening further lawsuits if they continue to refuse to offer abortions.

Prior to this, the hospitals were regularly referring patients to Planned Parenthood for abortions.

As has been noted previously, the profession of abortionist gets little respect from the mainstream medical community, with abortionists claiming they are viewed as “the lowest of the low.”

Abortion Clinic Provided “Whole Brains” for Youth Summer Camp

Kristi Burton Brown
Live Action News

The House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives released a gruesome journal of “Procurement Notes,” which was given to the Panel by the University of New Mexico. The notes were made by a lab technician who was employed by the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. UNMHSC partnered with the Southwestern Women’s Options abortion facility and would send a tech over to collect aborted babies and their body parts.

In explicit detail, the journal describes various body parts of aborted babies and, in some cases, what happened to them.

Perhaps the most disturbing revelation to come from the journal is a description of baby brains that were passed on to someone who wanted to use them at a youth summer camp.

Parents Who Refused to Abort Baby with Brain Outside His Skull Receive Miracle

At five months gestation, Sierra Yoder went to the doctor for a routine ultrasound to find out how her baby was growing and whether she was having her second little boy or her first little girl. She was told her baby was a boy, but she also learned that her son had an encephalocele, which meant part of his brain was growing outside of his skull. Doctors advised Yoder and her husband Dustin to abort the baby.
Believing there was zero chance their son would survive, the parents decided to abort. But then as the appointment approached, Sierra Yoder changed her mind.
“The night before the procedure, I told Dustin I couldn’t do it,” Sierra Yoder told The Washington Post. “He had a big sigh of relief. He was very happy.”
Doctors continued to tell the couple that their son would die at birth and he may not even take a single breath. They said he would be “a shell.” But Sierra Yoder decided her son wasn’t going to have the outcome that the doctors said he would.
They headed for the hospital to deliver the baby they had named Bentley, but without any car seat or plan to bring him home. They were excited to meet their son even if it was only to say goodbye. Then, to their delight and surprise, Bentley was born kicking and screaming.
Screenshot from Boston Children's Hospital Video of Bentley and his mom after birth.

“He was perfect,” Sierra Yoder said. “It really didn’t matter how long we had. We were just thankful we got to hold him.”
Unsure how many minutes or hours they had with him, the couple and their family members took turns holding him for thirty-six hours. Doctors finally told them they could take Bentley home.
So they did, armed with information on hospice care and funerals. But even with his struggles, including a respiratory infection that led to a hospitalization and breathing machine, Bentley continued to live and grow.

Students for Life Groups Now Outnumber Planned Parenthood Campus Groups 4-1

Students for Life of America (SFLA) announced today that they now serve more than 1,043 college, high school, law and medical school, and young professionals pro-life groups across the United States, 568 of which were started by the SFLA National Field Team.

This means that Students for Life campus pro-life groups now outnumber pro-abortion groups nearly 4-to-1, with Planned Parenthood’s last report boasting 275 campus groups.

“This enormous gap between pro-life and pro-choice students indicates that the pro-life message is resonating where it needs to the most, right where the abortion industry targets: college and high school campuses,” said Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America. “We are meeting students where they are, having passionate and constructive conversations on campus, and changing hearts and minds.

“The passion of our students is evidenced by the sheer number of pro-life students willing to sacrifice their time and energy on behalf of women facing unintended pregnancies and their babies verses the pro-choice student groups whose only recourse against us has been to yell and scream and vandalize pro-life displays,” continued Hawkins.

Since SFLA launched full-time just ten years ago, we’ve grown from a team of just one full-time staffer to over 29, including at least one person in every region of the country that works with area high school and college groups, and the number of student pro-life clubs has grown every single year, topping out in the 2015-2016 school year at over 1,040.

Select Panel Refers UNM & Late-term Abortion Facility for Criminal Charges Related to Fetal Tissue Procurement

By Cheryl Sullenger
Operation Rescue

Washington, DC - Rep. Marsha Blackburn, chairman of the House Select Panel on Infant Lives, has sent a letter to New Mexico Attorney General Hector H. Balderas, Jr., referring the University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women's Options (SWWO) for criminal charges and further investigation.

Blackburn's 291-page letter contained attachments that document what she described as "systematic violations of the law" related to the "transfers of value" of fetal remains for "research purposes."

"This recommendation of criminal charges against UNM and Southwestern Women's Options is the fruit of years of research and hard work done by a tenacious community of pro-life activists," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. "Seeing the fruit of that labor makes this a great day for us. All that's left now is for law enforcement to read them their rights and take them away!"

Operation Rescue has worked extensively in New Mexico with activists Bud and Tara Shaver of ProtestABQ to expose and oppose Southwestern Women's Options, which is the largest late-term abortion facility in the U.S., committing abortions throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

ProtestABQ has for years called attention to Southwestern Women's Options' long affiliation with the University of New Mexico. SWWO is the only supplier of aborted baby tissue to UNM, and there appears to exist a "symbiotic relationship" between the two, according to Blackburn.

The letter to Banderas explained that UNM aggressively expanded abortion services in Albuquerque over the "resistance" of University officials. This eventually forced an ideological shift at the University to one that now is focused on abortion promotion, using even UNM students to further their pro-abortion political agenda.

Blackburn indicated that the Select Panel uncovered violations of New Mexico's Jonathan Spradling Revised Uniform Anatomical Gift Act, which for years has been misconstrued by UNM to allow for the donation of aborted baby remains. However, Select Panel attorneys found that the act specifically prohibits fetal remains from being donated for research or other uses, making the transfer of aborted baby remains from SWWO to UNM illegal.

The Panel also notes that SWWO staff were brought on the UNM as "volunteer" faculty and received employee benefits at UNM.

It was Tara Shaver that first uncovered SWWO's participation in supplying aborted baby tissue after she obtained an abortion consent form that buried brief tissue consent language near the bottom of a wordy form that required a patient signature before abortions could be performed. This raised questions about whether women actually understood that their aborted baby's remains would be used for "research." That consent form was modified after Shaver made the initial, illegal form public.

Planned Parenthood Paying People Up to $720 a Week to Promote Hillary Clinton

Life News

One sure sign of Planned Parenthood’s struggles is its difficulty finding volunteers who will promote its radical pro-abortion agenda. Instead, it has to pay people.

Currently, the abortion business is advertising paid positions on Craig’s List to go door to door promoting presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and abortions in the Cleveland, Ohio area. The abortion group says people can earn up to $720 a week canvassing “in support of access to abortion, Planned Parenthood and Democratic candidates.”

One of the candidates certainly will be pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton who received Planned Parenthood’s endorsement and shares its extreme pro-abortion position. In a recent interview, Clinton said unborn babies just hours before birth should not have any Constitutional rights. She also defended partial-birth abortions and promised Planned Parenthood to work to force taxpayers to pay for abortions.

“Make a difference this year,” the Planned Parenthood ad reads. “Help protect access to Planned Parenthood and abortion services.”

Abortion activists often have to pay people to help promote their extreme abortion position because they cannot find enough willing volunteers. In March, LifeNews reported how abortion activists paid protesters to show up at the U.S. Supreme Court building as the justices heard arguments involving a Texas abortion case.

Catholic Bishops Blast Obama Admin for Forcing Churches to Pay for Abortions

Life News

The leading pro-life spokesmen for the Catholic bishops are blasting an Obama administration decision revoking federal protection for chruches in California forced to pay for abortions.

As LifeNews reported, churches in California are officially subject to an onerous state regulation that requires them to pay for abortions, thanks to a ruling by the Obama administration.

The troubling situation began in 2014 when the California Department of Managed Health Care reclassified abortion as a “basic health service” under the Affordable Care Act and ordered all insurance plans in the state to begin covering surgical abortions immediately.Even churches are not exempt from funding abortions.

The churches filed a lawsuit against the regulation last October, and it has been moving through the courts.

They also asked the Obama administration to uphold the Weldon Amendment — federal law that protects conscience rights. But, this week, the HHS Office of Civil Rights released the results of its investigation into the California abortion mandate, stating it found no violation and is closing its investigation of the complaints without further action.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is calling for an immediate federal legislative remedy and says the Obama administration got it wrong The bishops say the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) declared, contrary to the plain meaning of current federal law, that the California Department of Managed Health Care can continue to force all health plans under its jurisdiction to cover elective abortions.

It is shocking that HHS has allowed the State of California to force all employers – even churches – to fund and facilitate elective abortions in their health insurance plans. Even those who disagree on the issue of life should be able to respect the conscience rights of those who wish not to be involved in supporting abortion,” Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York and Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore said in a statement.

Kermit Gosnell and the Suffering Abortion Industry

The Supreme Court could order the end of substandard care

Gosnell in Prison Illustration by Greg Groesch/The Washington Times

By Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life
The Washington Times

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Abortionist and convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell calls himself an “impractical man.” Speaking from his prison cell, where he sits for killing a patient and three born-alive babies, he told one of the documentary filmmakers of “3801 Lancaster: American Tragedy”: “Practical man changes to live within his society. Impractical man has the priority of changing society to meet his own needs. Therefore, progress can only be accomplished by an impractical man.”

When asked if he were an “impractical man,” Gosnell replied, “No question.”

“Impractical” is not the first word any sane person would use to describe Gosnell, whose blood-stained, filthy abortion clinic was described as a “house of horrors,” where babies’ remains were stored in milk jugs, orange juice cartons and cat food containers while women were treated by untrained staff using unsterilized equipment and flea-infested cats used the office as a sandbox.

But Kermit Gosnell, in the most unintended way, did achieve progress. His profound disregard for human life and complete lack of concern for his patients drew nationwide attention and caused numerous states to regulate the health and safety conditions of abortion clinics.

And those regulations are now about to be adjudicated by the Supreme Court in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, a Texas case that’s being called the most important abortion-related decision in 25 years.
