Alfie Evans Breathing Without Life Support After Hospital Denied Him Oxygen, Food, and Water

Alfie is being treated less humanely than we treat prisoners on death row… or even animals.

By Cassy Fiano
Live Action News

UPDATE: April 24 — A British court has ruled that Alfie may not be taken to Italy, despite the facts that Alfie is now an Italian citizen and that an air ambulance from Italy has been waiting to take him for hours. Alfie’s father has posted to Facebook: “Coming up to 24 hours and he’s fighting with gorgeous his gorgeous features, pink lips, handsome grown up face, and odd cheeky smile now and again.

UPDATE: "HE HAS NOW BEEN STARVED FROM NUTRITION FOR 23 hours[. H]ow is this HUMANE where does his DIGNITY LIE[?]”

On April 23, 2018, Alder Hey hospital removed Alfie Evans’ life support, against his parents’ wishes, because it was believed that any treatment for him would be futile. The toddler has been fighting for his life since suffering a cascade of medical crises, starting at nine months old when he began having seizures. A chest infection landed him on life support, and he was able to recover, but another infection put him back on life support again.

It is believed that Alfie has encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, for which there is no cure. But Alfie’s parents insist that he has not received a specific diagnosis, and that because there is no diagnosis, doctors feel that attempting to treat him would be pointless. After a series of court battles, the hospital won the right to end Alfie’s life.

But Alfie ended up shocking everyone. After his life support was removed, he didn’t quickly die as expected. Instead, he began breathing on his own and sustained his own life. After over two hours had passed, Alfie’s father posted updates on social media, slamming the hospital for refusing to give Alfie oxygen. But now, as Alfie has continued breathing on his own for over 19 hours, the hospital has finally caved and allowed him to have oxygen and water.

19 hours breathing alone..Well done Alfie..you are showing everyone who doubted you wrong..and all those of us who have faith in you we are all so proud of you.. Keep fighting little man you have this.. @Pontifex @Pontifex_it @Steven_Woolfe

Now, Alfie’s parents have been granted an emergency hearing, during which they will request that the order preventing his removal from Alder Hey be lifted. Alfie has been granted Italian citizenship, with multiple hospitals in the country willing to take him in for treatment. Air ambulances have also been dispatched and are on standby to transport him to Italy if the order is lifted.
“We are asking to lift all orders preventing Alfie from leaving Alder Hey and allow him to go to Italy. There’s medical transportation ready at any moment to take him,” Alfie’s father, Tom Evans, said. “Everything is in place. We have no doubt that he would survive the trip. He would have full treatment, oxygen and everything, right to Italy. It’s in his best interests to get treatment at a hospital abroad.”
If the order is not lifted, Alfie will likely be forced to endure an inhumane death. According to Alfie’s father, Alfie will be given Midazolam and Fentanyl to hasten his death. A document from Evans states that
“[w]ith regard to the process of withdrawal of ventilation from Alfie, the Trust proposes that … a cannula will be placed in situ and infusions of Midazolam (an anxiolytic) and Fentanyl (an analgaesic) will be prepared. They would be commenced and increased to control symptoms if necessary.” It’s not clear whether or not Alfie has already received these drugs, but the use of Midazolam is especially controversial, as it has been banned for usage in executions.
Alfie is being treated less humanely than we treat prisoners on death row… or even animals. And why? Because he very well may be a severely disabled child for the rest of his life. He may not improve. And his life, therefore, is not considered worth living to the United Kingdom and to the NHS.

Blogger's note: When Government becomes God...

Following the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, the Pro-Life movement predicted that all human life would be at risk.

In recent years, we have seen the rise of worldwide abortion, assisted suicide, euthanasia of the mentally and physically disabled and the elderly.

If an innocent unborn baby isn't safe within the shelter of its mother's womb, then none of us is safe.

Possible Developments in Planned Parenthood Baby Parts Investigation "Coming Soon"

By Cheryl Sullenger
Operation Rescue

Washington, D.C. - When the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) began posting videos in the Summer of 2015 showing Planned Parenthood executives engaged in negotiations with biotech companies for the best price they might get for aborted baby organs and tissues, America was shocked.

That undercover investigation and the footage that was secretly taken over several months revealed a dark secret that Planned Parenthood successfully hidden from the American people: The bodies of aborted babies were being marketed like slabs of meat at the meat counter for "valuable consideration" and ended up with buyers all over the world, in violation of U.S. state and federal laws.

Pennsylvania Action Alert! Down Syndrome Protection Act Achieves Astounding Victory

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

Children with Down syndrome and their families achieved an astounding victory last week, as the Pennsylvania House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed legislation designed to protect preborn babies who have been diagnosed with an extra chromosome.

House Bill 2050, the Down Syndrome Protection Act, achieved passage by an incredible vote of 139-56. The bill passed with a veto-proof majority—extremely important in a Commonwealth led by a pro-abortion Governor, Tom Wolf.
The disability rights bill has tremendous crossover appeal—it is being backed by both Republicans and Democrats, men and women. In fact, legislators who have voted pro-abortion in the past embraced the legislation because of its laser focus on children with disabilities.

The Speaker of the House, Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny County), was one of the prime sponsors of the bill. He eloquently stated the case for the legislation: “I believe in the dignity of every human being. None of us are born perfect, and we all have something beautiful to contribute. Pennsylvania is a loving, compassionate community, and we want to extend welcome and support to Down syndrome families. They need to know they’re not alone,” Turzai said.

Another prime sponsor, Rep. Judy Ward (R-Blair), spoke of the tremendous potential of people with a Down syndrome diagnosis. “The future has never been brighter for babies born with Down syndrome,” Ward said. “Medical and social advances have changed what it means to live with this condition. Down syndrome means that opportunities exist in every area of school, community and even professional life. We’ve learned too much to accept that Down syndrome citizens should be considered anything less than full members of the community. They deserve respect and the protection of our laws.”

During a well-received media event at the Capitol in Harrisburg, Karen Gaffney, who has Down syndrome, impressed the crowd with her impassioned remarks. Gaffney defied the odds by swimming the English Channel and receiving an honorary doctorate for her many accomplishments. “Those of us with Down syndrome and our families face a very difficult future. We face a possibility of wiping out all of the tremendous progress we have made. Just as we are making so much progress, a whole industry has grown up focused on prenatal screening – screening that would end our lives before we take our first breath. Now that you can test for Down syndrome before birth, there are many experts in the medical community that say this extra chromosome we carry around is not compatible with life. Not compatible with life?" asked Gaffney. “After everything we have done, I would say we are more than compatible. We are what life is all about. Our lives are worth living and our lives are worth learning about.”

The bill now moves onto the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration. Pennsylvania residents are urged to call their state Senators and encourage them to support House Bill 2050.

Where is the Social Justice for These Innocent Babies?

by Judy Alciatore

Millions now have been slaughtered in the womb, and millions more will be, because there is not enough of an outcry against it...Too much emphasis on abortion???...There is no such thing....For far too many years there has been almost no emphasis on this evil, and even today, people do not want to speak about it....They do not want to face the reality of it...

Social justice??? Where is the social justice for these innocent babies, for those euthanized against their will by unfeeling hospitals??? Do not speak to me of social justice and then say there is too much emphasis on abortion...

If life can be legally denied to one group, it can be legally denied to all of us...Remember Terri Schiavo? Charlie Gard? Do not think that you are safe...None of us is safe, if some of us are targeted...

Ministry Outreach Agenda: Challenge to PP Open House. Jericho March Two Days Later

from John Pisciotta, Director
Pro-Life Waco

1. Urgent Outreach Called for Thurs (April 26) PP Waco Open House

Central Texas life-defenders are faithful, bold, and capable of a fast response. I just obtained information that will test whether this description is true. Planned Parenthood at 700 W. HWY 6 is having an “open house celebration” thisThursday, April 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Pro-Life Waco appeals for a strong outreach holding signs along HWY 6 and by the PP Waco driveway during this event.

The PP Waco invitations states: “We are hosting an open house for local community and non-profit leaders to view our new facility and learn more about our services. We are proud to be able to continue to provide care in the Waco community and surrounding areas.”

These words motivate Pro-Life Waco to supply plenty of signs to communicate the truth. How many? I’m hoping that more than 100 life-defenders will participate. I mentioned this number to a friend and he thought I was unrealistic. I disagree. McLennan County has 250,000 residents. Over half are Christians. Surely, there are 100 foot soldiers enthusiastic about taking on the challenge of proclaiming that abortion must stop in Waco. We had hundreds participating in 40 Days for Life from McLennan County and other counties within 100 miles of Waco. We can do this. Over 50 came out to hold signs onNovember 17, the day after PP announced they would commit abortions at HWY 6. I believe it is God’s will that we pray for an end to abortion. And, I also believed we are called to publicly proclaim to our neighbors that something awful is happening in Waco. Please spread the word to your friends about this dynamic and important outreach. Of course, Carolyn the billboard truck will be on site. Also, PLW is arranged for a large tent at the corner of Sanger and the HWY 6 service road. Planned Parenthood has invested in a new facility to deliver the grave injustice of abortion. Let us respond vigorously to show we will never be accepted as part of the fabric of our community. Abortion in the 21st Century is a grave and violent injustice. We believe this is true. Let’s take the action demanded our beliefs about the dreadful facility you see here.

2. Jericho March reenactment at PP on Saturday, April 28 at 6 p.m.

The forecast is zero chance for rain on the 28th. So, it looks like the Jericho March walk and prayer for the end to abortion at 700 W. HWY 6 will happen just two days out our challenge to PP Waco’s open house. Our prayer is that this “house” will close. The Jericho March is Saturday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at Planned Parenthood.

Thank you, Father Robert Verrill for your dedication to lead us 7 times around Planned Parenthood blowing the Shofar horn.

Come out during the 5-6 hour for a time of fellowship. I will make sure you are shaded from the sun. The tent for our open house outreach will remain for the Jericho March.

Image on left is the ad that is running in the Waco Tribune-Herald SaturdayReligion Page.

3. Planned Parenthood fence moved expanding our public right-of-way

Since much of the fence at Planned Parenthood was built in the public right of way, at substantial cost, the fence has been moved back. Below are more photos of this folly for Planned Parenthood. So much has gone wrong at PP on HWY 6. There next disappointment will be on Thursday evening when you and I show up in the public right of way for their open house celebration.

Join us to Protest Planned Parenthood in Norristown, Pennsylvania This Saturday, April 28th

from Rita Smith, M.E.V.
(Missionaries of the Gospel of Life)

"Today, we're going on the offense."

That's what Planned Parenthood Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens told the media just a few weeks ago. She went on to declare, "We're pushing for efforts in all 50 states." All 50 states.

That's why all of us need to join together on Saturday, April 28 for #ProtestPP -- the 3rd Annual National Day of Prayer and Protest Against Planned Parenthood.

Too many of our friends and neighbors are in the dark about Planned Parenthood -- including many of our fellow pro-lifers! We need to get out there and tell the truth about the nation's largest abortion chain.
Protests are taking place at Planned Parenthood centers on April 28 in over 100 cities and towns across the country, including Norristown! Here are all the details:

EVENT: National Day of Prayer and Protest Against PP
WHEN: Saturday, April 28 at 10:00 am - Noon
WHERE: Planned Parenthood, 1221 Powell St., Norristown  (Map & Directions

Join the protest, and bring your friends -- we need ALL hands on deck! I look forward to hitting the streets with you on April 28!

If you can't take part in this nationwide weekend of prayer vigils and rallies to defund Planned Parenthood, there are still TWO ways you can make a difference:
  1. SHARE the reasons why we need to defund PP: http://protestpp.com/about
  2. Make a GIFT to support this urgent pro-life effort: http://protestpp.com/#donate

NBC Comedy: Unborn Child a ‘Parasite,’ Like ‘a Bag of Garbage’

By Dawn Slusher
National Right to Life

Editor’s note. This is excerpted from a post that appeared at Newsbusters and is reposted with permission. All boldfaces are in the original post.

NBC’s comedy Superstore joined the ranks of other Hollywood shows that devalue unborn human life, likening a preborn baby to a “horrible parasite eating and pi__ing inside” of the surrogate mother and comparing him/her to a “bag of garbage” who should “figure out its own gender.”

Thursday night’s episode “Gender Reveal,” had surrogate mother Dina (Lauren Ash), an employee of “Cloud 9” superstore who is carrying a baby for her boss Glenn (Mark McKinney) and his wife Jerusha (Kerri Kenney), become frightened after seeing the unborn child she’s carrying for the first time on a 4D sonogram.

It’s all becoming too real for Dina and she is sent into a panic when customers all share horrific birth stories and she watches a documentary on farm animal births. She walks up to Glenn and tells him she needs to talk to him.

When he asks if something is wrong, she says, “No, no, no. They just sent us the wrong receipt paper again, and I also decided I no longer want to carry your baby, so we’ll just go over all that.”

Which leads to the conversation where she compares the baby to a bag of garbage. Dina has this idea that she can somehow transfer the baby from her womb to someone else’s, like “moving a bag of garbage from the kitchen to the side of the house.”

Thankfully, there was no mention of abortion as a “solution,” but the devaluing of unborn human life got worse as fellow employees Amy (America Ferrera) and Cheyenne (Nichole Bloom) try to comfort Dina and ease her concerns about giving birth:

Dina: I did not think this through. And now, I have a horrible parasite just eating and pi _ing inside me.
Cheyenne: My friend Corona swallowed a tape worm to lose weight, and it ate one of her organs. She looked really good at prom, though.
Amy: Look, Dina, it’s just for a few more months.
Dina: Yeah, and then I get to endure the most gruesome pain imaginable. …
Amy: You know, it really didn’t hurt that much. I remember thinking, like, big whoop. Way to over-hype it, women.
Cheyenne: Really? ‘Cause for me, it was like…It was–it was like nothing.
Amy: Yeah, it was like bad cramps. …
Amy does fortunately share that when she took a pregnancy test recently that turned out to be negative, she, “kind of realized I kind of wanted to be pregnant again…Because I remembered how amazing it felt,” Amy says.
